To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.

MS usually does it the day before or a few days before the 1st of the month. That said, there are sites stating since MS announced August freebies on the 28th, an announcement WILL come today. I can't stress how much this one site is begging for attention, like total click-bait headlines. Hell, there was a countdown article with the headline XBOX GAMES WITH GOLD SEPTEMBER LIST WITHIN 48 HOURS. Even down to the hour too, at 8am PST.......Please, gimme a break. I thought this thread got antsy in their pantsies. Least it's not as bad as the one on x360a. Though some true leaks do occur there I admit.

Still sticking with my prediction of Tomb Raider and Batman AA for 360 and Lococycle for X1.

If I recall, you can quit at that point, come back to the game later and hit resume at the campaign, and you should come back to that point with the weapons and ammo you had. Just know that this goes away if you play with other people or if you start another level (the game should alert you that you will lose your previous checkpoints by doing so).

If you have a hard time in Halo: Reach, or ODST, try looking at the skulls. In Halo 3 you have to find the skulls, but in Reach, ODST and 4 the skulls are automatically unlocked. Most skulls make the game harder, but some can make it a bit easier. Grunt Birthday Party Skull is one I like, as you know for sure you scored a headshot on a grunt (the purple-blueish, small enemies); when you score a headshot on a grunt confetti shoots out of their head and children shout with joy - it's weird, but at least you know they're dead. Also, for the similar reasons, I tend to turn on scoring when I play those Halo games to know I've killed an enemy, especially for long range things, where you may not know.

You may already know this, but in the Halo games your AI buddies have infinite ammo. If you have a Rocket Launcher, Spartan Laser or Sniper Rifle that only has one shot left, you might want to give it to an AI partner (Spartans will not swap, but Marines and most ODST will). They will not resupply the weapon with ammo, but they also will not run out of ammo for the weapon either. They can be a liability (Rocket Launcher betrayals!), but the AI also have better accuracy at points, especially if they're in a Warthog in motion. They can hit targets in a moving Warthog much better than human teammates can, so it's a good option to use for levels that may offer that opportunity.

The checkpoints only seem to work if I defeat certain enemies and don't shut the game off manually or by accident. I wish there was automatic saving like in Killzone 2 and 3 and IIRC Destiny.

That's a nice thing about scoring. I wish those Ewok grunts weren't in this game as they seem out of place with the serious tone of the storyline. It's a shame more weapons don't have a scope target. I do appreciate dual welding though.

I completely forgot about switching guns with AI. Limited ammo is a pain especially when you can't reload certain weapons. I'll definitely try that next time. Thanks.

As far as a GWG prediction, I'm going to predict one sports title and a puzzle game. Let's say ..... NFL Blitz and Uno.

 
I'm going to make a bold GWG prediction.  I'm saying we get Tomb Raider.  It just makes sense as MS has been doubling down on the franchise with square enix.  (And, since it does make so much sense, we'll probably get Kameo and Amy instead.)

 
I wouldn't have a problem with Kameo, probably be the best GwG yet.

Yeah I had free credit and everyone was splicing over it. Think it was before they started doing regular sales on XBone stuff or added it to GWG so I wasn't thinking about that.
 
Yay! I'm really happy about Super Time Force since I've been wanting to play it and figured it'd hit GWG eventually.

Meh on the rest. Already own both. STF saves GWG for this month.
 
Crimson Dragon again, Why? I think it sucks that MS carries over XB1 games. STF looks interesting so I'll give that a try. Not interested in the 360 games at all.

I agree that it'll happen, but not soon. They'll make Tomb Raider the GwG offering close to the sequel's release. That way, it gets people thinking about the franchise and gives them incentive to buy the new one (to continue the story).

Wow, some total ass offerings. Crimson Dragon was a bad choice to start with, now it carries over? And Super Time Force? PLEASE give us a game which is sold on a disc sometime. I'd even take Trials Fusion at this point.

I long ago sold my 360, but those games aren't terrible. Monaco is fun, have it on PC, but never have anyone to play with. Reach has arguably the best campaign in the franchise, and isn't a TOTAL pushover on Legendary, though I suppose there's the issue that everyone has played it by now, making it a weak offering.

 
Man, I thought everyone had Reach at this point.  I still have my preview program disc too, in addition to the free digital copy they gave out after an update nerfed the disc.

But still, having 2/4 isn't bad.

Legendary Edition, Console, Preview Disc, Digital.....It's like they are giving me my 5th copy of Reach! How kind of them :D

 
Hey I have my preview disc too, which of course means I have the digital copy they gave out. I love my preview disc, it's so bootleg looking.

 
YEEEEEEES HALO: REACH!!!! I regretted selling that game for my Halo 4 pre-order and now I can finally have it again!!  :D/  :whee:  :whee:

P.S. What's Monaco? I know it's a country but that's it  :lol:

Reach?!?!? Seriously? Blah...I guess they figured most people will be on Destiny anyways so why not give us a game most people have already played...

Monaco has always looked interesting to me, but I'm such a cheapass that I even refused to pay for it during its last sale. Being a cheapass does pay off! :D

September will be my first GwG month ever whith both games i don't own. Probably cos neither pretty much interests me, but better that than already owned games, can't complain.

 
anyone think the horizon season pass for 19.99 is the permanent price now? or will it go back up? appears to have been reduced since the 11th of this month. just wondering if i need to grab it before tuesday morning

I also still have my reach beta disc. but mine wasnt green? it was just silver with no cool font size changes

Mine is silver also. It was for the update to increase storage space on the discs. I believe (I'm not 100%) that one version was to test the update via internet and the other had the update on disc. That way they could test both ways of delivery for said update.

 
Super Time Force is one of the best X1 games so I'm surprised to see it GWG without a sale yet (I think).

If it doesn't look appealing from the screenshots, still give the game a chance. I'm not a fan of Contra like games, but this one is much easier and a lot more fun. Easy 1,000 gamerscore as well.
