This thread will maintain a list of all current and upcoming sales and markdowns on the Xbox Live Marketplace / Xbox Games Store for the USA.  YMMV in other regions.  If non-US sales are listed, they will be marked with their applicable region(s).

Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

So Metro 2033 instead of Dead Island here? Hum...good thing is I never bought it even when it was like 5 bucks...still Dead Island would have been more interesting...oh well I will take what I get at least cold war is finally free and I can use my DLC I bought before getting this game lol
No fair. I'd much rather play Metro.

Since we're all complaining, I'd rather have My Horse and Me 2 than either Dead Island or Toy Soldiers.  Also, I have a fenced in area to keep a horse.

I had no idea that it was even a real game!
Oh it's real alright. One of the most sought after rare games on the 360.

It's a region free game too so it works on all consoles.

If they're going that far back why not the original NFS: Most Wanted.

Does anyone have any idea on how GwG are chosen?
Whatever game they can give away for free and it would have the least effect on sales. No one has played Dead Island in years, the trade in value is nothing, perfect! Preferably with a couple DLCs to make some money off your "free game".

I'm excited for both of these GwG games.

What many of you don't think about, which makes sense, as this is a community of mostly hard core gamers, is that everyone didn't go out and buy a 360 8 years ago.  Hell, many people have only started buying them when the price point reached $200!  GwG is amazing for them.

I bought my 360 a year ago.  Every game, with the exception of Fable III, has been brand new to me.  I have XBL specifically for the GwG program.  Dead Rising 2, Metal Gear, Halo 3, Sleeping Dogs, Iron Brigade, Rainbow Six: Vegas, and Assassin's Creed 2, have all been brand new to me, and I've spent hours playing all of them.

To the casual gamer, and to the new gamer, this program is the absolute tits.  MS doesn't need to cater to the hard core gamers, because they purchased XBL long ago for the online capabilities and discounts.  GwG is for people like me.  People who are still blown away by games made 6 years ago, and who aren't going out spending $50 on new games.  Why not get the $8 a month from us, rather than have us spend $8 at GS for the same thing?

My only gripe is that I am running out of hard drive space!

Stupid Tapatalk isn't letting me quote people...

Whoever suggested a racing game for GWG I would like that. With my luck they'd give away NFS HP since I just got it with my 320 GB HDD or Blur which are the racers I own. Hopefully it'd be Forza Horizon since I suck at normal sim racers.

For this month's GWG there's 2 more games I already own(ed) but I recently traded in DI so that's fine. My buddy and I actually played through it and got 100% achievements last January. We spent the month with it and even though it frustrated me sometimes we still had fun. Finding a masked Jason from Friday the 13th in the middle of the jungle was a fun surprise. I've been waiting for Riptide to be $10 so I could try that.

Someone mentioned running over zombies as being fun and I highly recommend Deal Rising 3 to everyone. It fixes everything I hated about the previous games and is extremely fun. I love driving the Roller Hawg around and running over, shooting and slicing zombies with the chainsaws strapped to the sides of the vehicles. There are some other fun vehicle and weapon combos too.

Oh it's real alright. One of the most sought after rare games on the 360.
So what you're saying is that we should get it now at 60 bucks and hope our children can sell it for a thousand?

For the record, also had no clue it was a real game lol I even went to YouTube and watched a 5 min gameplay video!

I'm not "new" and I'm not casual. I'm just poor. I have a family and 4329439432 responsibilities that demand my money before gaming. I'm a stay-at-home dad with 5 kids. I have some free time to play games, but without being able to have new games every now and again I have little incentive. I can spend $10 here and there and... that's about it... if I'm fortunate.

GWG has been killer for me. It keeps my 360 from being just an Amazon Prime player and the handful of disc games I actually own nut rarely play. If I ever can nab a new HD for my 360, I now have a "backlog" (simply because I don't have the space) of games to play. And honestly, I've struggled for the past couple of years to justify my annual Gold subscription. With the free games, I don't struggle now.

GWG is not and has never been for the hardcore gamers who have been plating all along. It was to get people playing games on their consoles again instead of watching just videos, and to inject a new userbase into some online games.

And oh man, I'm still playing the crap out of the NCAA 14 I got over the holidays with my $15 in credit on my account.

I just played through the first Toy Soldiers game within the past 6 months.  It was surprisingly a really fun game so I'm actually looking forward to Cold War more so than Dead Island another game I've yet to play but I've never really had any interest in it either.

You are unaware of how lucky you are. Metro 2033 is a great game.

Btw, dead island and Toy soldiers CW were on sale on october and september, that's 3 and 4 months back. Smart move Microsoft, already own both. But this proves that being on sale doesn't disqualify for GWG program, quite the contrary.

I'd say that if a game keeps getting crazy sales, the publisher is willing to "devalue" it to make sure more people play it. Dead Island was discounted for 5-10$ multiple times I'm pretty sure, for example. Sleeping Dogs was on sale one month or so before it became a GwG. I'd say it depends on the publisher, and if it's something frequently on sale, I'd say they would more easily license their game as a GwG game. Likewise, things that never get any sales, or they do they're quite minor, will likely not get into GwG: either because the publisher doesn't give two shits (or bankrupted, lost license, etc.), or because it's something that keeps on selling like crazy anyway, so no need to lower its price.

Oh I didn't want to make it sound bad, I know it IS a good game, just didn't get around to buy it even for 5 bucks when it was on sale...I mean I have it on Steam...but I don't play Retail Games on PC when I have the chance to play it on xbox...same for Bioshock, BNatman and ohter Games..all on Steam but well...won't play them lol

Since Cold War will be free in February...are there still people out there who don't own the first Toy Soldiers?
Also I asked this because I may have a few copies left as well of The Maw...so if anyone is still in need and DOESN'T have it yet...yeah..

Their free games are really....lacking. I mean, I'm not a fanboy one way or the other, and own an Xbox One, but the February lineup for PS+ is so much better than this. Oh well, they've been having good deals lately at least. One step at a time.

I will download Dead Island and Toy Soldiers for sure, but not high on the priority list.

I find it funny though how many are complaining about a free service.  I had no issues with my Gold sub before GWG started, and I wont start having issues with it because some of the offerings are less than stellar...

I hope the AC3 season pass is on XBL for next week like it's on PSN this week. They had the 3 segments on sale before the holidays but the sp includes a couple of other things so I didn't buy those. Can't believe it still retails for $30

It's a matter of competition and how things progress. When Xbox's competitor is beginning to offer better deals and free games then Xbox Live Gold seems like less of a value.

My Gold expires on the 17th which is perfect. I can grab both games this month still and then decide if next month is worth using one of my 3 month cards. I can use some 2 week codes in between to play online if needed.

Be here next month and the month after and so forth when we will have this same discussion and comments over GwG here on the XBL Deals forum.

Dead Island showing up as free, but is still 20 bucks when I go to download.
Usually takes a while for XBL to sync everything up. I saw it free on the web site when looking at the Games page for Dead Island, but the full list of everything still said $19.99. XBLDB picked up the free price (as well as an Ultra Mix Pack for DJ Hero 2), but then the free price went away from the Games page, then it came back. The full listing now seems to be going back and forth, don't know if it's the site or browser cache. When it becomes free on the console is another question.
