This thread will maintain a list of all current and upcoming sales and markdowns on the Xbox Live Marketplace / Xbox Games Store for the USA.  YMMV in other regions.  If non-US sales are listed, they will be marked with their applicable region(s).

Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance, but DLC cannot.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.  This requires being a paid subscriber or within a console-activated "1 month complimentary Gold trial" account.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every other Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

It's still a ridiculous system of callous price-gouging. The Headhunter dlc ought to be offered as a bonus of some sort, at least to those who bought the season pass/GOTY. Something like that might earn Gearbox some favor, which they need after Colonial Marines. It'd help, though Randy Pitchford's laughing all the way to the bank either way.

Now, to continue playing Tiny Tina's Assault. Ahem.
Agreed on this. The holiday themed content has jumped the shark, and comes across as a kick in the nuts kind of quasi holdover of sorts, for them to get their crap together until they finally unveil Borderlands 3. It also feels like they tossed development on another team. The headhunter packs play like they're detached from the original storyline and first 4 DLC packs, which actually offered some value and were actually fun to play. These packs are short, rarely strum up any sort of fun, and follow the same cookie-cutter pattern of "go to this standalone map area, find these things, kill this holiday themed boss". Bleh. Give me something worthwhile, or let the game die already.

Yeah, I kinda hate to be that guy considering how much I enjoyed the game... but it needs to be over with. This headhunter stuff is just blatant cash grab DLC for a game that already had it in the form of download only skins and heads. If Gearbox wants to keep it going, they should do more things like the Loot Hunt. Even if the world outside of the US couldn't win the physical prizes, everyone else wanted to be involved in it. But, since I'm sure they aren't going to do that... I've gotten about as much enjoyment out of it as I can. Great fun both solo and co-op. I recommend the game highly. However, it's just time to hang it up. Keep a sustain team around to take care of any glitches/bugs that pop up and let the rest of the company work on Borderlands 3.

Agreed. Brothers In Arms, while never really my cup of tea, was regarded highly among WW2 shooter fans. Borderlands came out of nowhere, was an amazing game altogether, had only 4 DLCs but each of them had insane amount of content: the 3rd DLC for example, with its new ultra-difficult boss and bran new amazing loot to get (mostly from him), had us playing for dozens of hours for 10$. Really great stuff, and it seemed that Gearbox might just become the new Valve or id, given these are barely even making games anymore (or in Valve's case, games that are triple-A, I personally couldn't care less about more hats in TF2 and their attempt to jump on the MOBA bandwagon). Then they get Duke Nukem Forever, rush it out without proper testing or anything, in fact it turns out the game was 95% finished at 3DR already, GBX did almost nothing, They even passed the (decent but laggy) multiplayer off to another studio, and cashed in on a cheap work. Then they resold the cut content (again, this was done by but not finished by 3DR) as paid DLC. Then came Borderlands 2, which was good though not as fresh as the first one, felt like a 1.5 rather than a full-blown sequel that came out 3 years later even. And then the DLCs: skins, Shift keys that have you camp on their Facebook and Twitter, less impressive DLCs than in the first game, the ones in the Season Pass. New classes, and with the exception of one none in the Season Pass. 45 or so minutes Headhunter DLCs for 3$ each is just being ridicolous. They release a GOTY edition which doesn't include all DLCs. There won't be a "season 2 pass", so if you want the newer DLCs there's no way to "get it" just yet, if not for full price. The Borderlands 2 sales have always been bits and pieces of DLC, never all of them at the same time. They just want so much money from Borderlands 2 that it's ridicolous and not even funny, it literally made me stop playing seeing this kind of greed. And, of course, let's not forget their lovely advertising of Aliens, which for the full game had extremely watered-down graphics. Of course they explained it's not their fault (is anything ever their fault?), but damage was done. Gearbox could have become the next big thing, and it is a big and respectable company, but their last 3 games are really pushing the gamers' patience. If there'll be a Borderlands 3, a new Duke Nukem or whatever, I'm not going to brainlessly jump on the game day one (as I did with the previous episodes), because they lost the blind faith they earned themselves up until 2010 or so.

The majority of you cry too much about this borderlands stuff. The season pass delivered exactly what it stated it would from day one. They NEVER said it would include anything past the 4 planned story dlcs at the time, nor did they say they would not be creating anything past that. Then to go on to complain about how the headhunters have next to no content, aren't coherent to the story, and aren't worth the asking price. Well, dont purchase them. What's the big deal? They're not worth it to you, but you sure seem pretty upset about not having something you don't even think is worthwhile.

I'm a rabid Borderlands fan but the only headhunter dlc I've purchased was the bloody harvest that got a discount over the holidays and I'm ok with that. If the others get discounted I'll likely grab them but I'm ok with not having them. Believe it or not there are people that are STILL running through the same areas farming loot for hours everyday, that's the kind of people a loot game brings and with or without new story dlc this game will have longevity in the community.

Yeah Duke was shitty and Aliens dissapointed but BL 1 and 2 have been the only games I've purchased day one at msrp for years and BL3 will be no different.

Thank you. I was going to write a similar rant, but didn't feel like expending the energy.

+1... If Gearbox decides to put something up for sale that you're not interested in or don't think it's worth the price, then just don't buy it. It's a product for sale, not some personal insult to make you angry. I don't know why it's so difficult for people to just ignore stuff they don't want to purchase.

Agreed. Also, I think the memory of the Knoxx DLC skews the judgment of the BL1 DLCs in general. Knoxx was fantastic, head and shoulders above Zombie Island, Moxxi and Claptrap, and most other DLCs for any game. When Pirate's Booty came out for BL2, people were disappointed because they were comparing it to Knoxx, but it's on a more equal footing when compared to Zombie Island and Claptrap. I've only played Pirate's Booty, I held off on the others because of the uncertainty of level cap increases at the time, and aside from getting a little bit into the Torgue DLC, haven't gone back to finish the game off yet. From what I've read, the Tiny Tina DLC is comparable to Knoxx, and Torgue is roughly on the same level as Zombie Island, Claptrap and Pirate's Booty. Perhaps a little shorter, but gets some extra replay value from a raid boss that has higher chances to drop good loot. Hammerlock is apparently far too short, but Moxxi isn't generally highly regarded, either. Some guaranteed legendaries for making it through an arena run might've changed that perception, or not given the time investment involved. So each game has a great DLC, 2 good ones and a meh one.

On another note, XBLDB picked up on some Guitar Hero 5 songs and packs getting ~50% off discounts. There might be more, the ones picked up are listed alphabetically ending in the I's. Going through the GH5 listings on xbox.com, there are some other 99 cent songs farther down alphabetically, not sure if they're discounted and XBLDB hasn't picked them up yet, or if the site still has trouble handling the large amount of DLCs for the music genre games. I figure the Aerosmith and Alice Cooper ones are because their track packs are on sale, will do a more thorough check later if the site doesn't automatically pick them up.

I have no problem purchasing the Headhunter packs. I think the regular skins are $1 or $2 so I figure getting that plus an extra hour of gameplay with my coop buddy for $1 more isn't a bad deal. The season pass came with everything that was promised as additional story content. Like others have said everything else like these skins is all extra. Don't like them? Don't buy them. Simple as that. It's no different than other games selling skins. At least I get a little gameplay with mine.

Actually, Randy did say before the game came out that the Season Pass is going to include "the full Borderlands 2 experience". Not having one of the level caps DLCs, some of the extra characters, some of the minor story DLCs, the extra arena and not including the Shift codes does not sound like "the complete experience" to me. True on the fact that there is no obligation to buy DLCs, in fact I did not and likely will not buy these 45 minutes DLCs for 3$ (when their own 10+ hours DLCs cost only 10$, even less with the Pass). But can you not see the difference between the DLC-plan for the first and the second game? The first offered 4 brilliant DLCs, with tons of content, very original new settings, a brand new amazing boss, TONS of new loot, a double level cap increase "for free" (one with a free patch, one with a campaign DLC)... compare this to the second game: shorter storyline DLCs, a Season Pass that only includes like half or less of the DLCs they've made (not even making a second season pass), DLCs that are overall fairly unoriginal besides the Tiny Tina one, both level cap increases have to be bought separately (or just one if you own the Pass), then all these 45 minutes DLCs when they could have spent the same development time to make one proper DLC instead. I'm sorry if it sounds like random complaining, but Borderlands 1 had only 4 DLCs, and between those and the patches they basically doubled the game's value (if not more than doubled), while now in order to the same you need to spend way more. Given that the base game was also shorter than the first one (a double playthrough of the first one took me around 80 hours I think, while the sequel clocked around 40 maybe, despite doing all missions), I don't think it's fair what they did. Probably I was the stupid one expecting them to be loyal to their customers, and make a similarly worthy DLC plan as the first game, which made me buy the Season Pass the day I bought the game (which was on release date). They did not technically lie or anything, but I simply hate when developers go overly greedy with the purchasable content. Having DLCs is one thing, but when your game sells like hotcakes and you still want to make sure your customers pay an extra for every single thing in the game, that's a bad move, especially when not long before the same developer made extremely valuable DLCs. In a similar fashion, I can't agree with The Elder Scrolls Online's policy: paying for the base game is one thing (and it's a high price already), and so is paying a monthly fee (which is, again, on the high side here), but they're even going to have paid DLCs and microtransactions, plus the costs of Xbox Live Gold. You basically need to spend like 200-300 bucks for having the full gaming experience for a year or so, maybe a little bit less, maybe tons more. When I think how in 2003-2005 Epic would release giant packs with extra game modes, maps, skins, etc. for their Unreal Tournament games for free, I understand that the industry changed, but I can't see as acceptable paying 3$ for a 45 minutes campaign addition, or 5$ for them to flip a switch (metaphorically speaking) that allows me to go beyond level 50. It's not a hate on Borderlands, between the two games I spent like 250 hours on the saga. It's something I hate about some developers in this industry, and I could mention the 3$ DLCs for Capcom fighters, allowing me to change the freaking colour of the same skin; the hundred or so paid skins for weapons of Gears Of War 3; the infamous horse armor DLC for Oblivion; the paid private servers and pay-to-level-up scheme of Battlefield 3... I could go on forever, the point is these are absolutely disgusting DLC plans, and it makes sense from a financial point of view, because apparently enough people spend 5$ or what on something that took developers 5 minutes to make, and, similarly, enough people defend these methods. But I remember when DLCs actually meant something, and when I see that certain developers still can pull off proper DLCs (think Skyrim's enormous DLCs, Portal 2's free coop campaign, etc.), there's your proof that companies are not forced to be beyond greedy. And please allow me to express my displeasure for companies that, figuratively, want me to pay for every breathe I take in their game.

^^^ Wow.  And I thought your previous post was a wall of text.  This is like the great wall of text.   ;)

I feel like I'm in the minority in that I disliked General Knoxx's DLC. The amount of back and forth traveling annoyed me. If I had to go north of the spawn hub to south of the hub it was quicker to quit and load save rather than driving. The missions were okay but I'm not a fan of driving that much. I'd have to say I disliked a majority of the BL1 DLC especially with the grinding for brains and items for Claptrap. Those DLCs tainted my memory of the main game so much that I wasn't looking forward to BL2. My buddies convinced me to get it at launch and I have no regrets. Hammerlock's DLC was the weakest to me but Tiny Tina's was awesome. *cues "Everything is Awesome"*

I liked Zombie Island, and maybe even Claptrap, over Knoxx.  Knoxx area was too big, it needed fast-travel within it.

EDIT: Same time post with same sentiment haha.

And to further make a point: yeah, no one is ever forced to buy any DLC. Fair enough, but let me make this into an analogy: think your favourite band, maybe they release an album of 12 songs every year for 10$. Then they stop making albums, and release one song at a time every 3-4 months for 3$, with these songs not even really being as good as their older albums. You probably still like their music, maybe you even buy all of these songs, but deep down you know all too well that you'd rather have full-blown albums of awesome music for a way more competitive price too. Why make multiple 45 mins DLCs for 3$ each when they could spend the same development time to pull of an actual awesome DLC for 10$ that gives you dozens of extra hours of gameplay, like Tiny Tina or Knoxx? No matter how you look at it, it's a step backwards, and they get away with it because they've got enough loyal fans to buy them. The same reason why Call Of Duty, Madden, FIFA or Assassin's Creed games (from 2 to Revelations at least) can get away selling the same thing with minor improvements from year to year.

God forbid anyone have an issue with the BL2 cash-gr...I mean DLC's. I remember last time this came up I dared to call BL2 out on not being the greatest game ever and was slammed for days in the thread.

Hahaha, sounds like a damned if you do, damned if you don't kinda deal.

My big beef with the cash grabs are not that they exist, this kind of DLC was inevitably going to happen. Technically they just upgraded skin packs to have a mini campaign, so kudos on them.

My problem lies in the fact that in multiple interviews Randy stated that sales of these DLCs were going to determine if there would be any more full fledged DLCs left for BL2. So naturally when word spread that the DLCs were meh, sales dropped, and hence no final hoorah on the moon base.

I don't really have any horse in the race (I finished BL2 vanilla last year and although I bought the season pass I'm not in any rush to play the DLC's cause I already have a high backlog), I just have the school of thought that "season pass" encompasses all of the DLC that is going to be released. I think what makes it worse for BL2 is that they had the release of the first 2 DLCS on a disc copy, then the GOTY (which for 99% of games is ALL of the content) and then adding MORE content outside of that with no sort of voucher or even discount for people who purchased any of the BL2 versions. To me, that's a bad direction for gaming to be headed.

Yeah definitely. I'm trying to remember, but there's definitely a game or two that tried that before right?

Oh. COD tried that. The whole "you get the dlcs for the next year" thing. At least the developers stopped making DLCs afterwards.

As far as season passes go, if you buy season pass tickets for a sporting team does that give you access to all games ever to be played in their future? Or simply the games of said season, i.e a particular frame of time?

I fully expect Season 2 passes of DLC for games that create enough content or simply stretch it out over greater lengths. And quite frankly I'm surprised they haven't arrived already.

I know what you guys mean. I'm still pissed that they haven't released a copy of Rock Band that has every DLC song included in it (cuz even if the DLC sounds lame and I won't play it, I still want to have it).

Personally I don't think there should ever be a "season 2" unless it's an MMO designed to last a decade. The season pass used to be a way to say "I have confidence that you'll make awesome DLCs and am willing to pay you in advance for all of them." The year to year model doesn't work for games, it seems stupid, especially when games don't last that long anyways. It works for COD due to their release schedule, but for every other game? Not so much.

Plus season passes are different for sports than games. I don't see passes in sports going "Alright you can get into/watch these specific games, but not the rest". With games, it's "you get these main DLCs, but not anything else extra" For BL2, users had to pay for Krieg and the skins despite them being released during the season. Hell, even DLC that was released with the game wasn't given to season pass holders.

Again it was stated what the season pass was to include. It was never let on that Gaige or Krieg would be part of the pass. They even went out of their way to advertise how Gaige wasn't a part of it but would be free with preorder.

Back to the sports analogy that is exactly how it works. You buy the sports pass knowing full well what games are being given access to. When you bought the BL pass you knew exactly what was to be included if you would simply read its description.

Hmmm, always thought the sports pass gave you tickets for all the games, or at least the games in town during that season. *shrugs* my bad. In your original post you used sports season passes as an analogy saying "you get tickets to all the games in that season". Not true in video games, hence the mislabeling of the so called "season pass".

I guess I just hate the marketing on the term. Season pass was/still is valid for COD because from COD to COD, that was a "season", technically. With other games, it's more like a bundle, rather than a a season pass. In my head, season pass generally means "Hey, you get everything within a specific period", a literal interpretation of the two words. I still bought the season pass knowing that it only included specific DLCs, so I guess I'm not really helping the rebranding cause haha.

Didn't they end up giving away Gaige for free for a short while? And, didn't they end up throwing in the Ultimate Vault Hunter 1 pack for free for a bit too?

I for one, wasn't arguing the semantics of what the season pass should have included. I read it as "4 packs for the price of 3". I was arguing that the headhunter packs just suck. They are half-hearted, (and probably developed with left over game resources by a different team), attempts at keeping the game going. My thoughts are that they should've just stopped after the 4th big DLC, (the Tiny Tina one), and called it a day.

Yeah, they did, which was nice of them. I both love and hate semantics, people can have arguments for days haha. Good memories.

Like I stated earlier though, I don't mind that they tried to keep the game going. But I agree with you that they shouldn't have done it halfassedly. It's good to upgrade the skin packs to something more viable for story based players, but to market and tease that you'd only make another full DLC based upon how the little DLCs do, especially given the quality of them? That's low. Real low.

I'm just impressed Gearbox is still generating content this far after release. It may not be stellar stuff, but look around at how quickly other companies are abandoning their games.

Gearbox certainly is doing a lot for Aliens: Colonial Marines, that's for sure...
That game certainly was an incredible burn at $60, but after grabbing the collectors edition last week and running through a bit on coop I've found it enjoyable at that price. My buddy is a bigger Aliens geek than I am, but its not a bad one run game at the right price. Its certainly not on the ET or Duke level everyone puts it at.

And... XBLDB did update:
Angry Birds Star Wars, down to the bargain price of $29.99. You too can pay $29 more to play a $1 mobile game on the big screen. Don't delay, it could go back up to $39.99 at any moment. What a farce.

It does have more than the phone version, but still not $29 more. $5 would have made more sense, or at least $10.

Hahaha, wow. Best. Discount. Ever. How many versions of ABSW are there anyways? Too many IMO.

Still slightly annoyed that I haven't gotten a code for Warface yet. I'm curious about how they choose people for it, it can't be chronological order, otherwise people wouldn't be complaining. I was originally betting on previous FPS play times, but now it doesn't seem to be the case.

Project Spark Xbox One beta supposedly due out next week, (the Windows 8 codes can be used for it), and Titanfall beta supposedly coming by Friday. Might have something to stay entertained soon.

It is impossible for Harmonix to do this due to the terms of their contracts with the record labels. They don't own the music, they have to license it.

Oh, I'm playing it myself and, while not amazing, I've had a decent time with it (except for Mission 5 - to beat it by myself, I had to clear the cache to remove the update, then disconnect from Live). My point was only that Gearbox is very selective about what it supports and what it doesn't - if the forums are to be trusted, there was only ever ONE Shift code for Aliens vs. the near endless stream of them for BL2.

Any Canadians here notice game prices went up $5-10 from like the last week?

Future games like now cost $70 instead of the $60 it was before >.

Wasn't there an announcement about this about a month ago? I could've swore hearing about the $5 price hike.

You were right about that the price already went back up.
