By forced to unpatch the game I meant that you have to do that to return to the game. It's not required but rather a way to resume your game instead of starting over.
Yeah, I got that.... You're hoping that "unpatching" will fix the glitch instead of starting a fresh game and getting back to the same point.

My point, initially, was that, if you had BOTH drm rights to yourself (your console AND your gamertag), you could theoretically just delete cache on your own system, reload your save *offline* and re-download the patch *after* the glitch area was solved.

Being that you don't have "original console" DRM on your own system then you can't play offline (which you know) and thus, whenever you load the game you'll either have to be online with your GT which will force the patch download, or else be stuck with a trial of the game (which I think you were pointing to saying you can't do and would have to take it to your brother's console). /Ramble

Phew. That was too much detail for such a simple, well-intentioned misunderstanding.
NBA Jam down to 600 MSP for the first time...

If we were guaranteed 3 "first-time" drops every week, I'd be in heaven.
Good catch. I was looking at XBLDB because I was so sure you'd gone crazy (crazier?), but you're right; it's the first time it's hit 600 MSP (50% off), while the other two markdowns were for 800 MSP (33% off). That might be enough to secure a purchase out of me, but I couldn't get into the demo the first go round and if I can't a second time, then why bother? Anyway, thank you for that. And I'll echo the "first-time" sentiment - if we were guaranteed that many fresh discounts a week, or at the very least one, I'd be much more excited for the Deal of the Week program.

I don't see why MS doesn't do that. From an article I read today, MS already has a countdown for E3 2013. Wanna guess what their going to show? Get the most of the 360 now before the new console comes.

Yup, sounds like you knew what I meant. I did end up going to my brother's house to fix it. I played a few minutes, got out of that area, saved, and it loaded just fine at home. Hoping to complete it tonight or tomorrow if I'm lucky. Just a few sections left to complete. :)

Basically. But after two slam-dunk sales in November and December, what should we have expected?

Next week

Breaking news : Microsoft stops with DotW because they got to many complaints . ;)

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised.

I can't see it happening but it still wouldn't surprise me. People think they're entitled to whatever they want.

Anyways, these deals aren't that bad considering FIFA 13 and NHL 13 are still $60 new on disc so this fits in fairly well.
I can't see it happening but it still wouldn't surprise me. People think they're entitled to whatever they want.
"Entitlement" is the new "epic," at least around these parts. Say it enough and you just might squeeze any meaning out of the word.

My two cents, any griping about this week's Deal of the Week isn't spurred by our dreams to see all great deals all the time, but instead by our steadfast spending habits saying, "Hey, we don't want fifty dollar games 'on sale.'"

Yes, there are XBLA titles in the mix too, but as of this writing you still wouldn't know that just looking at the dashboard. Good job, marketing!

As for me, I hope sales slow down considerably for at least a few weeks. I thought that stockpile of MSP from Target would last a hell of a lot longer than it did.

While it's true that far too many people in this world have far too inflated a sense of entitlement, Microsoft does advertise exclusive XBL sales as a feature of the paid Gold subscription. It's certainly arguable that just having any sale at all is enough of a service, but the point is that their approach to advertisement of these sales only contributes to customers' sense of entitlement.

As we get closer and closer to the next generation, the sales are not going to improve. Sony practically abandoned sales on PSP software when the Vita was released, and it's certainly not because Vita software is selling like hotcakes.

Agreed. I haven't started NG+ of mark of the ninja, still have a ton of fez to discover, need to finish episode 4 & 5 of walking dead, have barely scratched the surface of dust, have tons of Blands 2 dlc to download, and still have Bully & splinter cell to play. I'm booked and thats just my digital backlog from the past 60 days!

Microsoft is not Sony & the PSP certainly isn't the 360. The original xbox was supported for a few years after the 360 released.

I don't think I'd ever seen a system disappear as quickly from store shelves as the original Xbox after its successor was released. Microsoft released their final first-party Xbox game the month before the 360 hit. It looks like Sony was releasing first-party games for the PS2 until about 2009, three years after the PS3 hit. That's not to say there won't be a lot of budget-priced third-party releases after a system begins to be phased out, but the gems are few and far between.

That being said, I don't think the 360 will disappear as quickly, but I can't see MS putting a whole lot of support behind it either once the 720 is released.

I was referring to the live service for xbox that was still on till just a year or two ago if I remember correctly. And of course games were still being released on it for a while, but as you said, maybe not the best games.

The PS2 was something else. It refused to die!

Your right about Live for the original Xbox shutting down in the last couple of years but there were no releases at all when the 360 launched. Microsoft put a complete stop on all Xbox original releases when the new system came out. It was the most defined ending to a console's life cycle I've ever seen.

This. And if Halo 2 wasn't so popular, I could easily see original XBL going kaput day and date with the 360 launch.

(In a joking manner) Who on here is complaining to theoretically make Microsoft get rid of sales? I might complain to them directly if it was included as a service for my Xbox Live Gold subscription, maybe.

I know the meaning of the word, but I still don't understand the issue over 'entitlement' pertaining to games and the like recently. Unless you were promised a certain thing (goods and services) with money you pay, why would you think you are entitled to it?

I agree, the original Xbox was not put out to pasture to meander through its final years.
It was taken behind the barn and shot. :twoguns:

There were a lot of original Xbox games released into 2006. Microsoft wasn't supporting the console at that point, but there were still some good third-party games like Scarface: The World is Yours released then.

But yeah, once 2007 hit, it was over the originial Xbox.

I enjoyed the Diabolical Pitch demo enough that I'll be buying it for 400 MSP. It has the same problems that virtually every other motion control game has, in that motion controls just aren't precise enough to make a super compelling game. But for 400 MSP, it had more than enough for me.

NHL 3 on 3 is an easy recommend for 200 MSP. My friends and I have had lots of fun with it. Madden for 400 MSP is good too, but you might want to just go with Blitz for 200 MSP more.

Thanks for the input going to go with nhl might be fun with my 5driving ur old just started getting him into games.

Try the demo for Diabolical Pitch. For me I tend to love Grasshopper/Suda games, but this one just grew tiresome on me within the first 5 minutes of the demo. The pitching wasn't too bad, but just playing it and it felt so repetitious and other reviews of the game seem to echo my sentiments.

I'll check out the Diabolical Pitch demo. Looks interesting, but...my 400MSP might be spent better elsewhere. Also considering NBA Jam, but purely from a nostalgic viewpoint.

This is totally off topic, but for everyone who bought Dust when it was on sale and haven't started it yet:

WHAT THE fuck ARE YOU DOING START PLAYING IT NOW.

It's been a long, long time since I've been captured by a game like this. Like... I enjoy lots of games, and I still have my favorites. But everything about Dust just looks, sounds, and feels great to play. I'm disappointed in myself for waiting so long to play. Hell, I'm disappointed in myself for not buying this for full price.

So if you've got some free time this weekend, set it aside and give Dust a try. I started playing at 11 P.M. CT last night, and the next time I looked at the clock it was 4 in the morning. No joke. If you have it already, pat yourself on the back. And if you don't, you should seriously consider picking it up for the 1200 MSP asking price. In my honest opinion, it's worth way more than that.

I could not agree more. I just got done completing it a couple hours ago and I could not believe how great it was. Definitely my new pick for 2012 GOTY.

I've played maybe 5 hours of Dust, and while no single element of the game would merit a 10 out of 10 on its own, it's definitely a prime example of a game being much greater than the sum of its parts. Out of the several holiday sale titles I've played so far, it's been the most engaging of the bunch.

It really is a great game, in visuals, sound, voice actors (I love Fidget's voice) and the script is also good.

Already completed it, two plays: 19 hours the first and 12 the second in hard mode (not extreme). You can complete it with only one playthrough if you start in hard: the only difference between modes is that the experience points you get from killing enemies (and they are important because with those you level up and buy attack, defense, life bar or fidget attack).

Anyways, if somebody don't have the game, it sure will be on sale many times, so no problem.

I LOVED me some Dust. It's probably my runner-up game of the year to Fez but I enjoyed it immensely. Although I may be a little impartial as I got the highest I think I've ever gotten on a leaderboard for Dust. As of a few days ago when I checked I was #35 on the combo leaderboard and I know I can top that combo if I wanted to so I may do that and see how much higher I can go. I got around 15.8k but the highest I earned was nearly 20k but I got hit and it broke the combo. :(

That's crazy dude. I just got a 1,4xx combo for the mission/chievo and broke the combo myself. Didn't know there was a combo leaderboard though.

I've been out of the country and cannot check as often as I usually can, but does anyone mind telling me the sale prices of the walking dead game was during the holiday sale? Thanks again!

How does it compare to Muramasa or Odin Sphere? I still have those two to play and I have a dislike for anthromorphic animals and amnesiac protagonists, and Dust is both. The combat looks fluid but also very repetitive, and I also wasn't a big fan of the Dishwasher games, which also received critical acclaim. After all that, is Dust still worth playing?

The difficulty of Dust is not brutally screwing me like Dishwasher's, if that sways you. I'm playing on Tough.

I need to go back to Dishwasher. Boy was I terrible at it the first time I tried it.

They have a bunch of leaderboards. Most time played, completion %, scores for each challenge room, etc. If you check the leaderboards within the game you can bumper over and see all the different boards.

Wow you have some extremely specific tastes. Anyway, I don't think you would love it, the combat is the worst part of Dust, it is a little bit simple and repetitive. But I think Dust is quite a bit better than either of the Dishwasher games.

Nope. Start on Tough difficulty. It's not that bad.

Dust is really good, but I think people are overselling it a bit by calling it GOTY.
Does anything carry over? Weapons, EXP...etc?
Nope, there is no NG+, so you have to start from scratch. Either way, it isn't a difficult game; you can beat it on hard without too much effort (only in the first stages, when you die in one hit by big enemies if you don't counterstrike correctly). Besides, there are a LOT of save points, so if you die and don't want to waste a resurrection stone (no one does), you can load the autosave.
Dust is really good, but I think people are overselling it a bit by calling it GOTY.
Whether it could be your GOTY or not depend on tastes I guess. I see it as a simpler metroidvania. An enjoyable game nonetheless.

Uh what? Ok, I agree it is fairly simplistic and there aren't as many powerups/fidget skills as there should be to give it more variety, perhaps because it was made by one man, but the smooth and fun combat/gameplay along with the Metroidvania feel is the best part of the game.

The worst part is clearly the amateur-ish sounding voice actors, and maybe arguably the map system and how it isn't a full traverse-able map but rather stages that are connected.

In fact I really like their voice actors, and for example, Castlevania: order of ecclesia has the same map structure. Not fully metroidvania-ish, but something more oriented to unlock locations.

Avatar Football just launched today for 240 MSP ($3) and it is unexpectedly awesome:

http://marketplace.xbox.com/en-US/Product/Avatar-Football/66acd000-77fe-1000-9115-d80258550c7d

It's basically a 3D version of Tecmo Super Bowl that is fully customizable and has 3 vs. 3 online play, which runs with minimal lag.

Things you can edit:

-- Full player editing
-- Full team editing
-- Full playbook editing + play creator

Rosters can even be shared online!

There is also a full season mode and 2 vs. 2 local multiplayer for those who don't have Xbox Live.

I highly recommend this game. There is no trial for it at the moment because of an error on Microsoft's end. The developer is working on getting a trial version up. But rest assured, if you like football, you should buy this game now.
