XBOX 360 Red Ring of Death FAQ: Soon to be known as the Red Dot of Death! :P
My 360 came back yesterday RRoD-free. The NXE update went well and I installed Fallout 3 on the HDD. The only issue is my damn arcade games are not licensed. There are two reasons that this is crazy. First, I got the same console back. At least the serial number is the same. Second, I tried the method detailed on the paper that came back with the Xbox and it didn't work. I've tried deleting games entirely and redoing the whole download but that doesn't make a difference. fuck I'm not looking forward to calling them and stumping them with this.
Same thing happened with me I just ended up doing the license transfer on the website and it worked. They need to either update their paper to NXE ways now.

Did you get the same Xbox back? From what I read about the license transfer, it only works if you got a different/new console.

Regardless, I'll probably try it out tonight. Little shit like this always bugs me more than it should.

I finally got through with my coffin order today. I could barely understand the lady who took care of me. Now I have to wait to get a box sent to me. God only knows when I will get my 360 back.
Got my system back with a lite on drive
Good deal the lite on drive, it is the best compared to the Hitachi jet engine drive.

I got a refurbished unit back, so this is strange that it isn't working, but just check the website since I had two different series of numbers for the consoles. It shows the console ID number instead of the serial so if the serial is the same, but the console ID is different when you check it out in the system info than you can do it.

Alright. So after I got my girlfriend's xbox back in the mail today and cleaned the gunk off of it (seriously Microsoft?), I plugged it in, downloaded the update and the like, made her an avatar, etc.

So, I followed the instructions about license transfer for the only arcade game she owns and has on the HD, Hexic HD. To make sure she'll be able to play it at home, I log out of Live, unplug my ethernet cable, and try to play it offline. It instantly disappears from the games list right when I open it.

Now, I've tried just downloading again with it already on the hard drive, I've tried deleting it and re-downloading the whole thing, and none of it has worked. She doesn't have a wireless router or a computer close by at home, so I need to get this to work offline for her. Anyone have any ideas? It says I don't have to do the license transfer on the site because for refurbs it's already been done, but do you think the person at the repair center f'ed up and didn't transfer it? I didn't send it with the hard drive.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Im going through hell with CS right now trying to get my tracking number.

Indian #1: Gives me the wrong # gave one used to ship to them.
Indian #2: sounded like she had 20 people in her cubicle. She cant hear, I cant hear, I hang up
Indian #3: Confused then gives me a # to enter at service.xbox.com but that just redirects to support.xbox page??

Any other way to get that damn tracking number?

Current Status: Invalid tracking number
they had it 2 days ago, because on that page it showed DEPARTURE SCAN from mesquite

got the repair update today and they recieved my system and they are repairing it now...i hope this license transfer thing bodes easier for me than from the others i heard. I actually hope i get the same system back....but it would suck if i couldnt play my arcade games offline.

Waiting for my coffin now, my hope is that it comes soon so that I can hopefully have it back before Christmas ... I'm not gonna hold my breath though.

You should be able to get your tracking number by going to http://support.xbox.com, Go to Check Repair Status (on the left, under Console Management), and logging in with your Windows Live ID (should be the same one you used when you setup your Xbox Live Account - was for me at least).

In other news, sent back my Xbox on Monday, and I'll be getting "expedited service" since they sent the last one back DOA.

... out of curiosity, does anyone know about printing the labels yourself? The first time, I printed out the label, took it to a "UPS affiliate" and got stuck with the shipping cost; this time I took it to a UPS Store, and they said the shipping was already covered. Either way something weird is happening ...

When did you order yours? I just had my box Red Ring today and they told me I had to supply my own box. Luckily the place I work at ships a lot of stuff. I just drove over there and got it ready. It'll go out with tomorrows UPS.

Had it since the end of Aug '07 so it was a good run. Hopefully I'll get one with an HDMI since I just got an HDTV... yesterday

I just hope to get it back before Christmas break is over! I've been planning on playing so much stuff over break!

You got ripped off, shipping is paid for by MS

Thats bullshit. My 5th 360 died on Sunday and I called Tuesday afternoon and they sent me a prepaid box (which came pretty fast today). Whoever told you that doesn't know what the hell they're talking about.

He wasn't the only one I got told the same thing , when I get the system back I might just sell it, my warranty dies in March and I would rather sell now with a working system then wait until it red rings again

I opted to request the coffin online since I didn't want to deal with the Indian support on the phone. My coffin arrived today and I'm shipping out my first RRoD tomorrow morning!

So exciting.

ive never gotten any coffin when i did my request. They told me i had to go to a UPS store and get a normal box and have my ref# and zipcode with the 360 inside the packaging.....

OH well, My repair was pretty quick. only took 2 weeks. i thought i was going to see 6 weeks. Well heres hoping my 360 doesnt RRoD when i get ti back...

Requesting my coffin online because I didn't want to get a headache dealing with someone over the phone, just shipped it out earlier today. Scheduled to arrive on the 9th.

I get out of school on the 16th so I hope it'll arrive before Christmas, but I've also got Persona 3/4 to keep me busy.

Is the repair page on Xbox.com temporarily down or something?

I'm trying to request a repair online, but my console doesn't show up as registered anymore, nor will it let me input any information.

Hi there, I am getting an Xbox 360 for Christmas, this guide has helped me alot but, I live in the U.K, so, if my Xbox 360 device does indeed Red Ring, do I have to send it to the repair center in Texas? Because that will cost a lot for me to pay just to get it repaired
Sweet, arrived in Mesquite, TX earlier today, hopefully it reaches the repair center sometime on Monday.
Same here, I really hope it gets back here before xmas!

Mine arrives in Mesquite yesterday too. Damn, all of us must of had our 360s break down at the same time. Was it official "screw CAGs over day" by Microsoft or something?

Mine still hasn't been delivered and it has been set to "Out For Delivery" all day today. What gives? They sure are taking their sweet time getting it to the repair center. I just hope I get it back by early next week. I'm going through withdrawls here and my PS3 isn't enough!!!

Got mine back a couple days ago...or should I say I got one back. It has my serial number on it but it's definitely not mine. Mine was in pristine condition
and this one is not so nice. Scuff marks on the faceplate and top, some small black mark on the top, but it works fine. I really hope it's not mine as it would mean
they take absolutely no care when handling these things. Now to see how long it lasts the second time around.

Mine is currently set on Repair In Progress so hopefully I'll get it back next week. I just hope I get mine back because I took very good care of it, like DualDisorder up there.

My 360 was delivered at the Repair Facility yesterday, does anyone know how long it stays in the "Repair in Progress" stage on average? Hoping for a week or two weeks at the latest.
My 360 was delivered at the Repair Facility yesterday, does anyone know how long it stays in the "Repair in Progress" stage on average? Hoping for a week or two weeks at the latest.
It took mine 2 or 3 days to get to them, then 2 or 3 days to get repair in progress. Now 2 or 3 days later they have listed it as shipping. So my guess is the whole experience will take between a 1 and 2 weeks depending on how lucky you are.

Mang, on my repair status page show that my console was repaired last week friday.. it's almost been a week, and they still havn't shipped it yet..

I miss my halo, gears & street fighter..

Anyone know what the Warranty is after you get the new console? I am just nervous that I am goign to get back another faulty console that breaks on me in 6 months and im SoL despite that fact that ill still have a year and a half left in my warranty.

3 months.
3 months.
Thats fucking insane. All I have to say is this replacement system better last a good 2 years or I am going to be screaming at the top of my lungs at a lot of MS customer service people. A console should last you atleast 3 years.......shit I still have a few NES's that work and a whole shit ton of playstation 1's and N64s that work.

Heck my refurb/replacement unit did DRE a few times and a few lock ups.. Then there were times where the drive went quite during games. But now it's back to loudness..well sort of since I install my games on my hard drive now.

I expect this one to die any time now.

Did you try calling them? Again seriously if I have any problems with this new console some indian person is going to hear a stream of obscenities long enough that they will be learning new words every third word. My system wasnt even a god damned year old when it RRoD so if I get a new one back and it dies under that 2 year mark thats insane...hell 3 is insane but forget the like 1 year 1 month warranty I will now have had.

Same here, they're sitting on mine right now. Nxe update must have really backed them up
Same here, they're sitting on mine right now. Nxe update must have really backed them up
I am starting to wonder if the NXE update had a problem in it that is causing the RRoD. Look here at this topic where there has been an influx of RRoD since the update, and googling the topic I have found a few sites discussing the issue including one that claims they spoke to a MS rep that confirmed the problem.

http://gamingconfidential.blogspot.com/2008/11/ms-rep-fall-update-will-be-big-trouble.html

I am not saying I believe NXE is causing this......but I think its something that should be looked into. I dont know if it will go anywhere but I contacted Kotaku about it and maybe they can research it or have a hook up in the industry that can speak to them.

OK, mine just shipped today. To those of you with repaired consoles that haven't shipped yet, mine changed from "Repair in Progress" yesterday to "Console Shipped" today, and I never even saw the "Repair Complete" status. I would give them a call and see what's up.

I've heard the coincidence excuse a few dozen times and I don't believe it anymore. The system was running fine and I had only turned it on after the update about 2 times. But then I decide to play Saint's Row after a year of not touching it, it downloads a small update...... and froze right after it got done installing. Turn it back on and the system red ringed. It just stops becoming coincidence when after every major update my console goes shortly after.

Well I got the red rings again. This is my FOURTH time returning my console. Unreal.

I originally had a launch system, so I was afraid this one wouldn't be under RROD 3 year warranty still, but they shipped a box from the website no problem. Maybe the fact that the manufacture date is 3/3/08 had something to do with it?

Are there any people with multiple failings that have gotten something other than the one month trial? I would LOVE an HDMI xbox, but it seems like that's pretty much not going to happen (which I think is pretty much a load of shit). If they could just send me back an xbox that won't fail in 5 months I'll be happy, but that doesn't seem in the cards either.

At least the towel trick let me finish the Gears 2 campaign before I send it back.
I got a controller out of them, you have to ask for it since they sure as hell don't volunteer to give you a "gift"
Did the outsourced phone support give you the controller or did you talk to someone else higher up the chain?
I asked the phone support guy, in turn he put me on the line with a supervisor who did it. Had a choice of a vision camera or controller
Thanks. I'm going to call as a follow-up and see if they have anything like this to say. They could keep their stupid controller if they would just ship me a console that could live longer than a few months.:bomb:

I don't need the controller at all, but I figured hey I can always get the camera next time ;)

So ive been waiting for 13 days for a repair box from MS, Wtf is up with that!. Ive e-mailed them 5 times ( No response) Max just says wait 10-15 days for the repair process (Wtf is he talking about)

Anybody else having repair box problems like it never coming?

Getting a little nervous and annoyed, got an email a few days ago saying my console was shipping and that I would receive another with the shipment info and 4 days later havnt gotten it.

I ordered my box from the website, they shipped it the same day, and I got it within a week. Did they e-mail you a tracking number?

I should have done this. I told the first rep I talked to that this is the 5th console that RR'd on me and he didn't seem to care. I was hoping they would offer since they knew I've had so much trouble.

Might want to call them. I had a situation where the box was never actually sent and waited about the same time.

Last night I was playing L4D then suddenly a bright green line suddenly appeared in the center of my tv. So I turned off my tv and turned it back on and all of a sudden my screen is all green with glitchy lines. I assume I'm heading towards a red ring(E74), but not the infamous 3 Red rings of death.

Is there anything I should do, should I wait until my 360 officially red rings before calling support? Is it safe to continue playing with that console?
