• You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
• Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
  On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.

What is this?

Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :

1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2026. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.

The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

I would not say real-money-only battlepasses are the standard, at least for the shooter and BR games. I would not consider MTG Arena in the same genre, and would look at other card games as comparison points. I'm only loosely familiar with Heathstone and Teppen.

Halo Infinite effectively had them due to no earned currency but kept each pass available permanently. They backpedaled on the currency but have since changed the format. Dying game, or at least dying support.

Overwatch didn't include currency but that was recently changed. Instead they're charging out the ass for collabs, weapon skins, and Mythic skins.

Destiny doesn't give you currency but those seasons are essentially a lite version of an MMO sub, locking story content and gear behind the pass.

I think all of the other major games in that ballpark had the "buy once, re-earn by playing" model. Everything I've tried does at least.

I try to purchase STREET FIGHTER X TEKKEN but clicking "buy game" redirects to https://www.xbox.com/en-US/

I'm having that problem now as well. Even if I log in and go back, pressing buy continues to send me to xbox.com. The June 19th sale has really broken marketplace.xbox.com or whatever they did to try to get the remaining few games to actually get marked down, which they still haven't!

i dont know about the animated movie but 185 DLC is mostly individual costumes. You can just buy them bundled of course. Im hoping Xbox discounts DLC before closing the marketplace because ive been keeping an eye on bundles for this game(though the game is infamously known to have all DLC characters within the disc and the DLC just unlocks them )

The 13 months restriction is probably the most alarming about this update, as it signals an annual review of Game Pass by MS. This means they're not confident in pricing YOY and could increase the prices each September. While I don't see that happening a third year in a row, it does mean they're reigning it in for sustainability as they finally have the data to support the model. Game Pass started as a dream and now they're shaping it for reality.

I can't fault that and so long as they have summers like this past one with a ton of games I'm interested in coming, I can't see how I wouldn't find incredible value out of it.

This, I don’t see what people are complaining about. Sucks prices are going up but, what can you do about it. If you don’t like something don’t buy it at the end of the day. Do you guys honestly think Xbox subscription fees were sustainable for them? Everyone was basically getting 3 years for $90 of gpu going on a decade now and your mad prices have gone up…. I wish there was a vote button on here, but do you all pay for movie/tv streaming services? I am just as opposed to paying $20/month for Netflix as I am for GPU. Just curious as I've always had a hard time with the "renting" aspect of these models.

Hopefully MS Rewards/Ambassadors keeps me on GPU with minimal expense. As others have stated, I wouldn't pay $20 out of pocket for the service. We all knew this was coming though, and the price does roughly track with inflation the past several years

For streaming services, I'm more likely to just buy a month and binge. I don't value movies/TV as much as games.

I have more FOMO for Game Pass because games usually don't return to the service. I'm likely to go back to what I did when game pass was first announced and had the occasional $1 offer - buy a month (when I feel like it) and binge! I will be utilizing Bloomy's Game Pass list like crazy to optimize when is the best time to sub again based on potential departures.

Inflation is back down to a reasonable 3%. So tired of the "Inflation excuse" that companies have fed us for going on 4 years now. These increases are simply BS corporate greed. They continue to think we'll just take it. Not me.

it will also make me buy first party games again. When I have game pass subscription for years, there is no reason for me to buy old MS games no matter the price.

Now I would probably buy old first party games at dirty cheap prices. The plan would be to buy old first party games to play during months of weak releases. Subscribe and play nothing but new day 1 games during peak release season.

The $70 reasoning only works if you were already going to buy those games on day one, or plan on largely focusing your play habits around what is plopped onto Gamepass to get maximum "value" out of it.

I can definitely see it being the case for some, but the Venn Diagram on this for me has so far been two almost entirely separate circles. This year I think the only day one games I will play are Avowed and Indy.

Afaik they only count down once you've bought them but they change things so much it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't reset this time. The reset in February and change to every three months happened with no notice so I wouldn't expect any other change to have advance notice either, they like to act secretive about stuff for no good reason.

I get the sense that people simply don't know what to make of Game Pass because the industry is changing faster than they can keep up. Simply put: how we consume gaming has shifted and that speaks to younger generations. MS is just first through the wall in how this will shape future gaming, because it should be clear to everyone that the push for live service games is failing. What can work is live service gaming.

At this point, most big publishers have tried their hand at this but there are clear winners in this space because of what they can offer. This really is no different than streaming services like Netflix and Max, both of which cost the same or more as GPU come September. People have no issues paying monthly for those services so this is just another avenue to entertainment. For those that still wish to own movies in that space, the options are there to buy on Fandango or Apple; no different than PSN or Xbox.

The only caveat here is that physical is being phased out now and for those that still cling to owning their games/collections, it will sting for them. Personally, I've never been happier offloading my games for hundreds of dollars and having no clutter.

I've been 100% F2P on Arena outside the $15 welcome package and I bought Dogmeat to support Bethesda (only way I could justify it to myself). I have like 11k gems I just use for the battlepasses and it just grows from the free gem dailies, R/M protection and draft tokens. I was actually about to quit the game because the meta has become way too fast thanks to a bloated schedule and constant power creep needed to sell paper. But they ing got me with the quintessential Redwall/Mouse Guard set. I can't say no to collecting it, so the daily grind continues lol.

Also the bonus sheet was proven to be a bug eating the rare slot. That's not how MH3 was supposed to work, but like most things Arena they ed it up again with a buggy mess. Supposed to take the place of the common slot but with it being so rare most people don't notice. I did have it happen once but 99% of standard is pretty much chaff anyway so I couldn't be fussed.

Stepping back, my disengagement with Arena is less the predatory pricing because it's easy to ignore as F2P. What I can't stand is the stagnate meta and the WotC dickriders proclaiming the game is in a great state. I mainly play historic now but even that has become wildly unbalanced thanks to zero bans (how is Glavanic Discharge not a more powerful Lightning Bolt just because it can't go face? Bolt is banned for a reason and this is absolutely bonkers broken) and MH3 essentially destroying the format, making it timeless 2.0 without monkey.

This may be more of a DM question, but how do you have 11k gems? I can barely get enough at the end of one mastery pass to afford the next one.

I Legit don't know why, but people really shit on Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare's campaign (I guess people didn't like the future stuff), but holy shit that campaign was fun to me. Zero-G missions where you have a Scorpion style harpoon and using that to grab people and use them as human shields and other random tech (and a goddamn space dog fighting mission that was just there for one mission) made me really enjoy that campaign. I Mean storyline means shit with usual blah, blah, blah evil military gets hands on super weapon where they want their own country or something, but that campaign was so fun.

And I still standby in saying as much shit as they get for feeling formulaic, nearly every game that tries to copy Call of Duty's military linear FPS campaign style never gets close. I Guess can argue Titanfall 2, but that game just goes beyond normal military stuff.

It is not added value. From day one Game Pass included ALL MS owned studios games on their service. This is just games from another MS owned studio. That is the same value. Saying them adding games that were always promised to us is an increased value is no different than trying to claim that the new games coming to Game Pass each month is increased value.

I’m disappointed Gamepass went up again since I think it went up about 6 months ago. I’ve been keeping mine topped off at its max using rewards points every 3 months. I haven’t cared much for AAA games except for Hogwarts Legacy in a long time. I’ve enjoyed the indie titles and games aimed for kids through Gamepass. Over the last 5 years I’ve steadily have bought less games and it’ll probably continue that way. As long as I get enough rewards points and exchange them for GPU at a reasonable exchange, I’ll keep it but I’ll start thinking about buying certain games I only have access through GPU and Core. I definitely can see a point where I’ll just replay games I already have.

My old man moment for the current conversation, but it's probably wise for everyone to think of what kind of consumer you are in this era.

-Either be all in on GPU and play what you're given there ($240/year is a very reasonable annual gaming budget)
-Buy and play things you own either physically or digitally (we all probably have 1,000's of hours of content already owned and untouched)

As someone in camp 2, we have been pretty relentless in cutting out subscription expenses as a family the last couple of years. I probably have a lifetime supply of things I've already purchased to enjoy (Kromis will be happy to know we're investing our cancelled subscription fees). For us it's best to use things you've already spent your money on rather than continually digging a backlog grave you will never get out of. All I know is that trying to do both leads to a messy situation where you feel overwhelmed with content and spend more time digging through stuff than actually enjoying it
