What is this?

Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :

1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2026. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.

The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

The increased loading times is probably the biggest selling point for me. The loading times for FH4, AC Odyssey and RDR2 are terrible. It’s almost a deterrent for playing games with that issue.

Odd. I don't remember any reviews mentioning long load times for RDR2 or any complaining about it online. I have it for the One X but it's in my backlog so I haven't currently played it but if the load times are terrible as you described, why wasn't that mentioned by all the reviews of the game and why wasn't there a lot of threads complaining about them?

It's like any GTA game. One very long loading screen at the start, then it isn't that bad.

That's absurd. And yet I'm absolutely going to look it up. I can't imagine it's any good. As there really hasn't been a good one in.... Idk probably ever. But sneakily playing these games while my parents weren't looking when I was younger has really left an impression as if they're almost good. I started with the og xbox magna cum laude, which while I know isn't a good game - still stains my memory in a fond way before going on to eventually play the older better tho still not great games. I remember the 360/ps3 one was god awful and I don't think I've played any since then.

But dammit I'm gonna look it up and eventually buy it when it's very cheap to play for a few minutes before regretting my purchase.

I've sold consoles on craigslist in the past and have never had any issues and since I got my X at a good price I can probably get all or more than my money back. May see what my local chain gives in credit, they tend to be better than gamestop but I already have $450 in credit and have other stuff to trade in to bring me over $500. Tried to perform a 4 GB update on my Xbox One and it failed with code 0x8b05000f. I tried it three times and I keep getting the same error at Step 2 verify. 

As a result, I can't go online and I can only play games I previously downloaded. Has anyone else had this problem and can suggest some solutions?  Thanks.

I don't like using ebay anymore, especially since you get a tax form in my state if you make $600+. Used to use it all the time but the hassle it causes when filing taxes now is a pain. I've sold consoles on craigslist in the past and have never had any issues and since I got my X at a good price I can probably get all or more than my money back. Not that you're in my situation, but my plan was to either give my One X to my baby brother when I get the Series X, or to one of my friends that doesn't own one. Since the Series X does everything that the One X does and more, I don't really see a reason to have both.

Not that you're in my situation, but my plan was to either give my One X to my baby brother when I get the Series X, or to one of my friends that doesn't own one. Since the Series X does everything that the One X does and more, I don't really see a reason to have both.

Odd. I don't remember any reviews mentioning long load times for RDR2 or any complaining about it online. I have it for the One X but it's in my backlog so I haven't currently played it but if the load times are terrible as you described, why wasn't that mentioned by all the reviews of the game and why wasn't there a lot of threads complaining about them?

It's like any GTA game. One very long loading screen at the start, then it isn't that bad.

As Fuzzmeister said, it’s the initial load time which compared to the ones before finally getting in the game in AC Odyssey isn’t bad.

Also, in other news. I just got my $10 gift card for buying $50 worth of games in the summer games sale, so check your Xbox messages for that.

That currently puts me at $490 of Xbox money towards the Series X, that I have only spent $414 of my own money on. And, with Bing searches, I should be able to get the last $10 before the console is released, possibly before preorders even open.

Will they charge me tax ordering it online from my Xbox? It seems like Californians don't get charged tax buying things through the console. We have some weird state law that an online store has to have a brick and mortar presence in the state to charge tax. Microsoft closed all of their stores here, and I've never been charged tax from buying games on my Xbox One. Even so, I doubt that tax will be as much as the $76 that I have saved so far.

I have a roku TV and really like it, but I use the apps on xbox most of the time over the TV. My parents do have a roku but it's an older model so it's kind of slow and some times has trouble picking up inputs from the remote even though the device is unobstructed and close to where they sit. The roku has a search function that shows every service a product is available on, not just what you have installed, so it can be difficult for someone like my parents who aren't great with technology. Maybe buying them a new roku will help but I feel like if I gave them an xbox with a media remote and all streaming services my siblings and I have set as pins they'd be able to figure it out better. If they do cut cable I also have a hauppauge and antenna they could hook up to the xbox and get a decent amount of channels. Maybe I'll have them try out one of my xboxes and if it doesn't work out I'll just get them a newer roku.

The answer will vary depending on your use case and preferred services. Most people will be happy with a Roku device, but beware, because of obnoxious spats between content providers, Roku currently has no HBO Max app, only the regular HBO app. If you are heavily into the Apple ecosystem, then Apple TV 4K may be the way to go. If you are a power user/home theater nut like me, the nVidia Shield is an attractive, albeit expensive, device. Also, Shield is currently missing the Apple TV+ app because Apple's being a dick about making it available on Android devices. There are also the Amazon Fire TV boxes, but I confess I haven't been paying much attention to those; I don't own any.

Well, THPS was never a button-mashing game so that could be the issue. . .

I do what I want!

Any game requiring timed, coordinated pressing of more than about two buttons, becomes a button mashing game when the controller is in my hands. I am pretty bad at video games in general and do not have an abundance of time to invest in practicing. I mostly play games on the easy difficulty settings...I think I figured out how to make the game more forgiving; there are "mods" you can turn on that adjust the difficulty for any of those struggling like me.

I wonder which version of 2 and which version of 3 that they will use. The PS3 version of 2 was using the same graphical engine as 3 with enhanced lighting and textures, and the Wii U version of 3 was also slightly modified from the 360 and PS3 version of 3. It makes me wonder if all three consoles will get three separate versions of the games, since Xbox was the original console, and the PlayStation 3 and Wii U versions were slightly enhanced ports.

Finished up the Veteran and Legendary challenges for THPS. There is A LOT to do in this game for folks who want reasons to keep playing. One of the achievements is to find every gap in every level, though, and that simply doesn't sound fun.  

Elsewhere, folks are saying that reaching experience level 100 requires XP hours beyond if you completed literally every other challenge in the game, which is already hours and hours of stuff, unless they add content or DLC later.

I'm not sure how everyone handles their own retailer credit, but when I got my Gears X1X at GameStop entirely with trade credit, no tax was charged. I assume tax can't be charged when no "real" currency changes hands?

I can only speak about AZ, but “trade credit” and “credit” are treated differently. Not just for gamestop, but everywhere so long as their system is set up properly. In AZ you don’t get taxed on the trade value.

Absolutely you can. What seems not particularly legal about it? You give the retailer money to cover the tax and they then give it to the government. Now if Microsoft tried to pay the government with MS gift cards, that’d be a different story

Tried out xcloud again to see how the official launch is working. Forza Horizon 4 has some minor lag which makes it pretty hard to enjoy, but Halo is incredibly responsive and playable in terms of controls. The biggest issue is that these games were designed for large screens, making it pretty hard to see details or aim at enemies which are far away. On a tablet this would be less of an issue, but on a phone it's not ideal.

For indie and casual games, though, I could see myself using it. Using a Switch stand with my Pixel 4a since I don't have a clip, which is also a barrier.
