• You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.

What is this?

Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :

1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2026. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.

The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

For reference if the journalist I linked to earlier had accurate readings the Series X runs cooler than the Xbox One X (and PS4 Pro) do.

It would be disappointing if the larger, less powerful machine didn't run cooler.

Either way the Series X runs quieter and generates less heat than the Xbox One X.

I was just about to reply to your original post with this. Glad to see some fact based journalism adonfraz. Eurogamer/Digital Foundry found the same temps for Xbox One X (155F/68C). As long as the current tests hold, the Series X prototype is 35* cooler (120F/45C). This may change when we get more demanding games, but seems great so far.

The RRoD issue with the 360 was something that took a while to occur, and wasn't immediately noticeable. An issue that occurs with prolonged use is much different than what is being talked about with the Xbox Series X.

When I repaired my 360, I recall the issue had to do with the way the heat sink was "clipped" to the board. It put a bind on things with pressure and over time warped the board causing separation with the the heats sink. Basically, I think it was a cost cutting measure to save on mounting screws and maybe production time or something. Probably extremely cheap thermal past was used as well which would not help matters.

So it was not designed to run hot...there was a hardware failure issue.

My personal experience and opinion...no expert here.

The Series models look like space heaters...so I assumed there would be a bit of heat coming out. Also, they advertise how well it was designed to dissipate heat...

I will take the gamble for these load times I am hearing chatter about!

I wondered about this as well. With that big-ass fan/vent on top the heat is probably going to be more concentrated and noticeable than if it were designed differently. I have no doubt that we'll hear stories of people leaving a game case sitting on top of the fan and it warping the plastic, or overheating the system because they threw their dirty boxers that direction and it covered the fan. These are user-fault and preventable examples to be sure, but the design doesn't help...and people always do stupid things.

The series X just gets better and better doesn’t it? From that new HDR video which was incredible to the super fast load times to the multiple quick resume games to all of our saves etc transferring over seamlessly I really can’t wait to get it.

It seems their focus on BC is what will win Microsoft this generation. I admit I’m a complete fanboy so I think it’s funny that PlayStation 5 comes out and says oh PS4 games are compatible but you won’t be able to play your saved games. Who the hell really wants to start every game over from scratch.

I just see people blowing the whole heat thing out of proportion, it never says it is overheating or that the system itself is hot to the touch, they mention that the air coming out if it is really hot/warm which is expected of any high powered electronic, the fan is to take out that hot air from the system components, if it was cold/fresh/barely warm then why would it need a big fan to dissipate it? Put your hand behind any high powered PC while running demanding games or apps and it will be hot even with a bigger size case and a ton of fans for every component. We are talking one big fan and one big exhaust for the whole thing, PC's get vents all around and multiple size vents and options and it will still get hot at some given points. The SSD expansion feels hot after pulling it from the system? no shit! have you taken the SD card out of your wireless phone, digital camera, 3ds, Switch right after using it? that piece of plastic is super hot, now imagine that metal piece that is connected directly to the motherboard and running at really high speeds.

I think the out of proportion posting is laughable and if it was a big issue it would have been pointed out by at least Digital Foundry couple weeks back while testing it and not now by some youtuber with high hopes for a ton of visits by creating controversy.

Obscure sites are sensationalizing comments to gain clicks, but that doesn’t mean the initial observations are unfounded. There is a big difference between running hot and creating heat but dispersing it. If you have air conditioning, go outside and put your hand over your compressor while it’s running on a hot day. The air coming out of it will be incredibly hot. Meanwhile, the inside of your house will be nice and cool.

Mostly because it's given me the push to play more games, like this month I've started Forza Horizon 3, Dead Rising 3, Pneuma and Forza Horizon 1 (which feels so dated after playing the other three first). I did this one, it is quite fun. I would have actually picked up the dlc if it wasn't $19.99.

Tip is use the wizard out the gate and make sure you freeze then kill them frozen for that cheevo. And then make sure you disable all traps with the hunter until you get that cheevo. Complete all objectives for each level which are super simple. Everything else is straight forward.

The One X also had overheating issues for some users. I haven’t personally experienced it, but I’ve noticed some display issues recently which may or may not be related.

People demanded examples of reports of the Series X running warmer than the PS5, so I linked an article with two separate instances of people noticing it was hot. It’s not some conspiracy ... it’s simple observation from multiple preview users.

I saw your posts but one preview users experience over another doesn’t prove or disprove the issue. Multiple folks have referenced the heat, so I’m inclined to believe it runs hot. It may still be cooler than the One X and that could be by design, but it’s still worth being aware of.

I wouldn’t be surprised if anyone who mentioned the console temperature received a quick response from Microsoft to walk back their comments, so I wouldn’t take reports from either side as definitive at this point. Only time will tell, but clearly a few hostile users on this board don’t appreciate open conversation on an issue.

Fun fact, my first Xbox 360 was a RROD used console I bought off someone in college for $30. Had the 360 not had the RROD, I wouldn’t have had money to buy one. I bought that one and brought it home and took it apart, redid the thermal paste and put in a replacement heat sync and that console lasted me the rest of college.

I look forward to trying out Apex crossplay. I was lucky and never had issues but the more people to match with the better. Would rule if overwatch got crossplay too. I'm happy as long as there's an option to pick console only or console and PC, especially with shooters.

I wouldn't say it's a conspiracy but a lot of outlets are big PS-fanboys (or know their audience is) so that plus a tendency to go for clickbait is why this thing ran wild.

There's no doubt that it produces a lot of heat but any device that powerful that is enclosed and that size does. We'll see if it becomes an issue after prolonged use but I don't see this becoming another RROD situation. Also, the metal of an SSD is going to be hot if you touch it right after you've been using it.

Yeah, actually the download is huge, and seems to install some form of the final version of the game. It actually even loads to the start screen, but when you confirm your gamertag it recognizes that you're launching from an xbox, and you get the usual 'come back on launch day... to play'. I hope I don't have to redownload the whole thing, but we've all been there with the enormous patches that redownload everything...

The retroactive HDR for backwards compatible games on Xbox Series X is becoming one of the most anticipated system features for me, along with 60 fps. Check out the HDR enabled YouTube video below. I have a 2 year old TCL series 6 and just played this video on it and Geometry Wars looks insane! Last generation I found myself waiting to play games until they (hopefully) got X enhancements. Now I have full on fomo of playing certain games before they get Series X enhancements

Note: If you play this video in non-hdr or on a non-hdr device you will not see the benefits and the games may look worse getting converted back to sdr. I think the first game he shows (Bloodstained) may not be showing in HDR, but everything else is eye popping
