Welcome to the Xbox Deals and Discussion thread.

General info
  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console. Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work. Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold. You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold. Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.
  • All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
  • ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...
  • Always verify Xbox Live Marketplace prices before your purchase!
  • Spend wisely, have fun, and enjoy!

Game Pass potential departure dates

Last updated - 2025-04-11
What is this?
Game prices in the Xbox store have a UTC end date associated with them. These dates generally fall into 5 categories :
  1. The item is currently on sale. These are usually the weekly sale items that end Tuesday mornings at 09:59:59 UTC.
  2. The item will go on sale, usually within 2-3 weeks. These are usually set to switch at 23:59:59 UTC, like the weekly sale on Monday evenings. Some of the major annual sales (Spring, Summer, Black Friday, Holiday) start on Thursday evening UTC, and some times appear to be random.
  3. The item is on Game Pass and is not currently or going to be on sale in the next few weeks. Third party games generally cluster around 09:59:59 UTC on the 1st and 16th of each month. Currently, at least one game is associated with every 1st and 16th through January 2026. The dates then spread out, ending with Human Fall Flat on July 1, 2028.
  4. First party and EA Play titles are farther out, starting in 2049, with many in 2799 and 9998.
  5. No date - some items do not have a price and so don't have a date. If the item is part of a bundle that has a price, the date from the bundle is used.
The list below uses the dates associated with games on Game Pass and EA Play. Time stamps in red are the regular Game Pass departure times and titles in red are confirmed to be leaving, either from Microsoft's regular news postings or by devs / publishers. Items available through Game Pass Core, currently on sale or not available for purchase are also color coded.

The date associated with a Game Pass game is not a guarantee it will leave on that date, but since March 2023 when the price data started getting analyzed, every game that's left Game Pass had been flagged as leaving on that date. It's given a number of people an extra heads up on the generally 2 week notice Microsoft provides.

If you have any questions about the list, please ask in the thread.

The cringe zoomer haircut on the protagonist didn’t help. I played it and it was legitimately one of the ugliest games I’ve played in a long while. Terrible, deliberately hideous character designs and bland enemies and levels that look like they’re out of an upscaled ps2/wii game. I pretty much always find 2D games with 3D art to be visually unappealing but PoP Lost Crown really amped up all those aesthetic issues to 11.

Gameplay wise it’s nothing special. It’s a retro-hard metroidvania with soulslike 2D combat and the Prince of Persia IP grafted onto it. The critics liked it for the usual reasons (diversity… metroidvania & sorta soulslike, so awards bait… a new installment in a dead IP… Ubisoft actually released something that isn’t an open-world Ubisoft checklist game… etc) but the actual player reception seemed more mixed. I dunno what kind of numbers they were expecting with a 2D metroidvania that’s ugly as sin and in a dormant IP that has a dwindling fanbase, especially when there are countless indie metroidvanias that look and play better and regularly sell for less than $10 each.

But at this point I’m just enjoying the schadenfreude from all the avalanche of these terrible Ubisoft news articles and headlines. Couldn’t have happened to a more deserving publisher 🫠

Prince of Persia the Lost Crown is one of the best games that came out this year. Definitely in my personal top five.
I just don't understand what is expected anymore for sales. I was planning on buying the DLC story expansion too in the near future.
Part of the issue is Ubsioft eats their seed corn. They condition the consumer to expect $20 shortly after launch, their new title doesn't sell, so they put it on sale for $20 right away and...the cycle perpetuates. They have no understanding of the long tail, and their sales expectations even without that are out od touch with reality.

Of the 450 items dated for this morning, 108 shifted to the Black Friday sale.

Are they worth it? Sorry, if this has been covered before.
This one feels like it because I spent fragments on upgrading it some. A +5 bonus on any calendar award that involves ARP. (so nothing on the monthly side on the days you get a border or something) An extra 10 ARP on most days is pretty nice. I also have the ones that increase your earned ARP from Twitch watching and time on site. So, I'll passively get 42 ARP "today" before any mini games or Discord polls. It's not a ton...there are people who get a lot more because they do Steam quests and such, but for a lowly console peasant like myself, it's good.

The Chai Stones are 1,250 ARP. I had enough leftover at the time after getting the 2k and 3k Dell Rewards. I'm not so much interested in customization for my avatar, (Did spend enough to make it look mostly like Pinhead) so I didn't really have anything else to spend on. Figured the artifact would be worth it over time. I've got 2,081 at the moment, so it won't take much for me to get the (assumed) 2k and 3k Rewards next cycle.

This was the first month I truly put any effort into getting ARP beyond just doing the weekly Steam quests. I get it now, investing in Chai Stones and all that really makes a huge difference.

Yeah, looking at it as someone who is somewhat new to the program it seems to me that you would want to build up fragments first so when you make an outlay of points like that you can start maximizing the artifacts perks right away. I may be completely off base on that though.

So, can I expect Prince of Persia the Lost Crown Deluxe for $10 digitally soon?

Hasn't this happened before like they rebooted Prince of Persia then they made some DLC I think and no sequel.

Wish they remade the 3 PoP on original Xbox. Combine them as a collection!

You’re drunk. The game is fantastic.

Name me five indie metroidvanias that look and play better than Lost Crown that were released in the last few years.

Since you seem to be an expert on the subject I’d love to know what I’m missing out on.

Sure,

Monster Sanctuary (probably my favorite indie of the last few years, so underrated)
Haiku the Robot
Animal Well
Record of Lodess War
Timespinners (cringe story and characters, but fun to play)

Going back further, the Guacamelee games are awesome especially in co-op.

Not an indie, and while I do hate the stealth bits, Metroid Dread is fantastic. It also does that 2.5D art style like PoP Lost Crown, but there is an elegance to it. The glossy sci-fi setting with it’s atmospheric lighting looks beautiful, and Samus has never moved more fluidly.

And can’t go wrong with the Igavanias… any of the stellar Konami collections or Bloodstained. I am in the middle of Portrait of Ruin from the CastleVania Dominus Collection, and it honestly does not get much better than that as far as metroidvanias go.

Though SotN will always be my personal GoaT.

Maybe it is if you’re into the Hollow Knight strain of metroidvanias and can overlook the visuals. I ultimately do not like retrohard platformers or soulslike combat. If the gameplay was actually enjoyable for me I’d probably overlook the artstyle, but as it is it just didn’t appeal to me at all.

And really I dunno who the game was really for anyway, so the low sales don’t surprise me. The graphics and characters are obviously zoomer bait, but they don’t even know what Prince of Persia is so why would they pull themselves away from Fortnite long enough to care? The gameplay obviously harkens back to old-school 2D Prince of Persia, but I doubt there are many people who experienced those in the 80s & 90s who are even still gaming. Seems to me the series was at peak popularity during the PS2 era, so any PoP fans that still exist probably want something similar to those 3D action-adventure games. Or they even just want a remake of Sands of Time…. Oh wait, that’s right, that’s currently forever stuck in development hell for whatever reason (And I doubt it will ever release with the current state of Ubisoft and the low sales of Lost Crown).

Also, I dunno if this is still the case, but I remember reading that Ubisoft does not actually completely own the PoP IP. They have some sort of deal worked out with the original game’s creator so that he gets a cut of any game’s sales. This was the reason given by Ubisoft once as to why Assassins Creed, which was originally a PoP game, was spun off into its own thing and why the PoP series suddenly became dormant. Any PoP game needs to sell a good bit more copies in order to be profitable for Ubisoft because of this giant asterisk. Seems to me that’s why Lost Crown turned out to be a 2D metroidvania in the first place- Ubisoft was testing the waters with a game that would cost a lot less to develop than something on the scale of the PS2-era 3D games. And it looks like the fish weren’t biting lol.

Whoa there chief. There are plenty of us who were alive when Atari was born, kids when pong came to homes, preteens when Electronic Arts came about, and were popping quarters into machines in our teens like the kids pop Adderall these days that are still gaming. We’re the ones who grew up with cola wars and don’t buy into the console wars - we own them all. Puzzle, JRPG, WRPG, FPS, TPS, Metroidvanias, Platformers, Action, Adventure, Simulation, Sports, Racing, Sandbox, or Strategy doesn’t matter we’ll give them a go.

Completely agree...we own all the consoles because we have careers and can afford them. No need to be stuck behind a company and make a choice between Odyssey vs Atari vs Intellivsion or Nintendo vs Sega or PS1 vs Xbox. It is funny to watch retro gaming come back and see things like the Atari collection or Evercade Console :ROFLMAO:

You "kids" have it so good, back in my day the batter was a stick and the ball was a square! We were happy to have 4 colors!

Guacamelee is filled to the brim with cringe memes, pass.

I bought PoP but haven't gotten to it yet. Visually I think it looks pretty solid as far as 2.5 Metroidvanias are concerned, especially compared to Ubisoft's frequent blandness. Only the small gripe about the overused Kilmonger hairstyle. With the sales numbers so low, I don't think the "Ubisoft discount" was the real problem, as that should have meant a weak launch with decent sales over time.

Actual issues:
The Ubisoft formula of games design puts people off of their games in general, "how did they screw this one up" skepticism.

Ubisoft had basically no track record or "cred" for Metroidvanias.

Prince of Persia was dead for a long time, and previous popular games were 3D and over a decade ago. Metroidvania is more in line with the ancient original games, that Ubisoft didn't make.

Crowded release window, probably priced a bit too high.

Monster Sanctuary is a good game but a little too grindy. I enjoyed the time I spent with it but never finished it.

Haiku the Robot is in my backlog got it for cheap for Steam Deck.

Animal Well - one of the best games of the year. Loved it.
Record of Lodess War - Super fun had a great time with it on Gamepass.
Timespinners - Fantastic game that I played on Vita.

Both Guacamelee Games are excellent. Bloodstained is a great game. I need to go back and finish it. I started it on Switch but then I got it for cheap on Xbox. I need to restart it on Xbox.

Metroid Dread is harder than Prince of Persia. Those stealth sequences are not fun and I usually like stealth games.
Still a great game but I found it way more frustrating than POP. Could never get the timing down to counter if I got caught by EMMI.

Prince of Persia the Lost Crown is still an excellent Metroidvania.
POP reminds me a lot of Guacamelee with it fun combo based combat systems and really fun traversal.
I didn't find the game hard at all and the game has a ton of great systems at play that are super fun. I love a good parry, the combat and combo system is top notch, the ranged combat it really good and the memory shards systems where you can capture an image of a area so you can remember why you are backtracking to it is one of the best additions to a Metroidvania style games in years. I also really enjoyed the challenge areas of the game that are classic Prince of Persia. The game was definitely made for me a older player that likes Prince of Persia franchise.

I bought POP at launch for $30 using the QVC deal, It was well worth the purchase price.
I saw the DLC expansions is on sale so I am going to purchase that today.

I will add that I think Tales of Kenzera: Zau was another good Metroidvania released this year that I had fun playing even if it was a little on the short side. One of my favorites Metroidvania released in the last few years was F.I.S.T. Forged in Shadow Torch. That game's combat system is incredible.

A few more I have enjoyed
Greak: Memories of Azur
The Mummy Demastered
Chasm
Steamworld Dig 2
Axiom Verge
Ghost Song
Ori and the Will of the Wisps
Ori and the Blind Forest

I was hoping to see something new that I may have missed but I didn't miss anything. I need to play Haiku the Robot.

This genre is probably my favorite. I own or have access to pretty much all of these.

Really started for me back with SOTN and Super Metroid, great great games.

I loved Chasm and Timespinners was fun also.

I will add a couple to this list:

Ender Lilies - excellent game, only platinum I have on PS. really looking forward to the next game.
Afterimage - have not really tried it out yet on PS5

My copy of Alan Wake 2 just arrived. The DLC is on the disc. It's on the DISC! Nice for Cyberpunk Ultimate and this to not have a code for the expansions.

FYI - Disc installation size was 31.67gb with a 69.03gb download
I thought Remedy said the second DLC wasn't on disc for Xbox? Is the 69.03GB download the anniversary update that was just released?

I think the biggest problem a game like PoP Lost Crown has is that its primary competition in the genre is budget priced indie games. Like, I want to play it and certainly will pick it up at some point, but I'm even waiting for a sale on Animal Well and that's a base price of $25. Hell, it even has $20 competition now with the same IP. The game industry is in a really weird point right now with pricing.

The nice part about metroidvanias is that there are so many of them that I only need to play the very best ones. 😀 like, you've got a pretty high bar to clear if your game is going to be worthy enough to be played. Just like crappy souls games. I didn't even finish Nioh 2; you think I'd spend my time messing around with other subpar titles?

I finally got around to trying Bloodstained this year and couldn't get over how slow and sluggish the controls and their responsiveness were. Put it down after a couple hours because the controls really were not 'snappy' at all. I was shocked; it did not feel good. It was a hard adjustment after coming over from Dead Cells: Castlevania (which was fantastic btw). I finally got around to Hollow Knight in 2023 and wow it was incredible. one of the best games I've ever played. I also got Animal Well in the mail last week! But yeah, there are so many great games these days you really don't need to waste your time playing the 80%'er, B- metroidvanias.

I haven't even gotten to Metroid Dread yet. There's this new one I'm hearing about called Nine Souls. You can get the entire flippin Casltevania Anniversary Collection for $4 on digital right now. Then we're going to have Prime 4 by next summer.

We live in great times.

I thought Remedy said the second DLC wasn't on disc for Xbox? Is the 69.03GB download the anniversary update that was just released?
The disc contains the token for the Deluxe Content as a 10mb item, so the actual dlc probably isn't on the disc. I think the download is bigger than the anniversary update so not sure what's on disc vs download. I had assumed all Deluxe content would come on a code so I was happily surprised by that. The Alan Wake Remastered game is on a code

For Honor x Destiny Halloween collaboration is something I would never have expected.

That YouTube cover art almost works perfectly as a representation of two companies doing their damnedest to survive these days.

Cringe memes? I'm sorry that your soul is devoid of any humor. Guacamelee is considered a classic for a reason. And when did memes become a bad thing? :ROFLMAO:

Ubisoft had no cred for Metroidvanias? Did Team Cherry have any "street cred" before making wildly successful Hollow Knight? Did Supergiant games have any "cred" for making roguelikes before making Hades? A good game is a good game, no cred needed.

Prince of Persia was a good game but I don't think it was the game that fans really wanted. It was meant to wet the appetites of PoP fans. What fans really wanted was a full 3D PoP game like we got over 20 YEARS ago!

At least the game couldn't have cost that much to make. No where near the $800 million that Skull and Bones did. Another factor that doesn't factor into the sales numbers is Ubisoft+. Ubisoft got $20 out of me for one month. That's how I played PoP. Along with Avatar Frontiers of Pandora as well as getting 1000gs in Skull and Bones. For $20, that's tremendous value!

One last point, Lost Crown PC release was originally locked behind their Ubisoft launcher. Nobody wants one Thousand different launchers just to play their games. One by one they are all falling like dominoes, Ubisoft, EA, Epic and Sony is about to learn the hard way... Lord Gabben is the one True King!

I think a big part of what makes or breaks a new metroidvania game is the movement and the traversal. In addition to having cool equipment and abilities, and satisfying loot acquisition of course. But you spend so much time moving around, jumping, running across maps, and backtracking that the movement has to feel really good in order for the game to be good. (and the jump / dash attacks)

Ender Lilies I have on Playstation in the backlog. Definitely need to play it. I heard lots of good things.

I got Afterimage on Steam Deck for cheap in a bundle and played it for a few hours and enjoyed what I played of it.

That one is coming to game pass soon. I'm excited to try it out when it arrives.

I saw Bo Path of the Teal Lotus is on sale on PS5 so that was another one I was interested in playing and will pick up with the POP DLC.

Metroidvania is probably one of my favorite genres of games. I love trying new ones out.
That and a good action adventure games or a real good strategy game. Unicorn Overlord is getting most of my attention right now.

I have no problem with memes in general but they went way too hard integrating them in the first games. "Dude, refrence, get it" humor. Just takes me out of it.

These are bad comparisons. Debut indie teams making their first games or experimenting with genres can't be compared well to a mega publisher like Ubisoft that has been around for decades and has tens of thousands of devs. Ubisoft barely makes 2D games, before Lost Crown is was basically just Rayman Legends in the last decade with some bad AC handheld games.

If a game is good, the cred thing doesn't matter In the longrun. Ubisoft makes a lot of slop though, so anything different is going to be treated cautiously. Look at the reception to Mario + Rabbids before and after launch.

Simon's Quest is the only one in that collection that could qualify as a Metroidvania. Advance Collection hasn't dipped that low on sale yet.

I started the Blaster Master Zero games for my TA Bean Dive this year, and am about 3/4 through the first one. Fun nostalgia trip so far. First one isn't a remake of the NES original, but I think it borrowed a bit for the map layout. Pretty straight forward about where you have to go, maybe there's an option to turn the indicators on the map off. Not too difficult in the Jason portions if you can keep your gun upgraded. Hasn't made me wish for the bomb / pause trick.

And ya'll naming Metroidvania's on XBox and I have to throw one out there that I don't think any of ya'll listed, Moonscars. Very dark and very Souls style esque in gameplay and I thoroughly enjoyed it when it was on Game Pass. Not huge into the Souls aesthetic, but man the combat was fantastic with doing things like timing parries to knock enemies into spikes to instant kill them was satisfying as hell. Plus the boss battles were just some fantastic twitch and recognizing animations based showdowns, but never felt unfair. Under 20 hours and was one of my favorite Game Pass surprises.

Metroidvanias are weird to me because when there are games where it's REALLY good like Super Metroid or Axion Verge, I am utterly engrossed in it's game world and replay it several times. And then there is Shantae or the newer Castlevania titles where they feel like gigantic amounts of down times in between the good parts. I often just get bored and move onto other titles halfway through.

Now I gotta rant about Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster and by extension, oldschool games and 2D/Pixel games in general. It's recently come to my attention that so many indie/retro style games are made with pixelated graphics because many people played older games via emulation on PC or HD consoles. That's fine in of itself, it's just those games were made for CRT screens and the graphics were designed for them and often came out with jagged edges and other deformities on modern displays. So many new games are designed with heavily pixelated characters and it personally bothers me but....eh, it's art. It's some developer's artistic expression and I can respect that, especially since they design their graphics with that look in mind.

What I don't like, it's something like Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster that takes the gorgeous, 2D spritework of classic Final Fantasy and turns it into an absolute pixelated puke fest in 1440p. I mean seriously, wtf. Even the original FF1 looks great with it's pixel art but it looks like dogshit on it's default setting. The options for CRT display are horrendous where it's blurry and dark, but it looks leagues better than the default so I'm stuck with that. It boggles my mind that nobody at SquareEnix didn't add better CRT options for these games. It's things like this that is pushing me towards PC gaming because I'm sure the Steam version, which I'm going to get eventually, will have mod support for better graphics filter options. I also need to point out how the aspect ratio fucks up something as basic as the FF6 intro to the point where the mode 7 walking intro with the mechs looks horrific and completely different to barely being able to see Kefka in the intro, but I digress.

Don't get me wrong, the remixed OST is DIVINE and I love the HD facelift with the spritework. I just can't believe these classic games lack basic options to make them look better.

That's one I was mad at myself for not playing it before it left game pass. I bought a cheap key for it for Steam Deck. It's in the backlog lol.
Currently playing Pinball Spire on Steam Deck.

Allot of clenched butthole in playing Moonscars. Both from trying to survive and quietly worried in the back of my head that this boss that killed me four times means I might not beat it before it leaves at times. So thankfully you'll have one less reason to clench them cheeks when you play it I hope.

Love me some Metroidvanias. Been working through Cookie Cutter lately which is pretty decent. I just want to know why we never got a Shadow Complex sequel.

Cookie Cutter is another one I have in the backlog. I chose to play Last Faith first which I really enjoyed but that was definitely a harder souls like metroidvania. AR purchases was a good thing back when it was around.
