Xbox Live Fall 2011 Dashboard Out Now - 12/06/11.
Has anyone noticed an odd screen when you power off your XBox? It's not snow, but 1/4 second flash of black with green vertical lines just as the system shuts off. It has done it on both the new and old system designs.
It doesn't happen to me all the time, but my Xbox does that once in a while. Especially if a game froze or whatnot, and I have to turn it off, it waits a couple seconds, that happens on the screen, and my Xbox makes a clicking noise as it turns off.

Something that has been happening a lot lately is, no matter what the game, my Xbox will freeze about 3 times for 2 seconds apiece. I used to think it was a networking thing when I was in the middle of playing an online game, but last night it happened when I was just sitting at the main menu of Modern Warfare 3. Short little spurts of it freezing and then going back to normal, after about 3 times it goes back to normal completely. Really inconvenient when I'm in the middle of a game and trying to get kills. Maybe my Xbox is shitting the bed?

I've started to get used to the dashboard a bit, I still miss the old one. If they had made the "Play Game" option the big box in the middle instead of a little box on the side I wouldn't be nearly as bitter about it.

dumb that they changed the button for ejecting the disk. All this time i was used to pressing X and now I still do but then I remember it's not X anymore, it's Y -_-

Yeah. Changing the eject button from X to Y wasn't necessary and is annoying until I can get the hang of it.

WTF is with this?
It happened with Netflix with the old dashboard too. And with fast scrolling being disabled. Both got fixed, but it's back again, plaguing every App now, worse than ever. Aside from the Guide button, nothing works.

Alpha,
I have had the same thing happen on the MW3 menu screen. 2 or 3 quick freezes. Have not seen it in game, or on other games. Has happened for sure on older XBox, but can't recall if it has happened on my slim.

I've noticed ever since the dash update that my xbox takes longer to fully power down. It disconnects (the TV pops up with the "No Signal" message), but the power button will pulsate for 10-20 seconds after I turn it off. Anyone else experiencing this?

Yea it does it on mine also. It is most likely the cloud save syncing. As it will only do it upon going to the dashboard or turning off the console.

I didn't set up the cloud saving, though that would make sense.

I've got a ? on the cloud saving: can you save it both to the cloud and the HDD? Also, do you need a storage device attached to take advantage of the cloud?

I've been wondering - what happens if you disconnect from your internet - can you still get to the saves in "Cloud saves"? It definitely seems to sync something, so I'm wondering if in fact you can still get to the saves in the cloud save section when disconnected - that maybe it does backup the saves to the local HDD and rather than showing these backups in the HDD section, perhaps you still go to the cloud save section, then when your reconnect to internet it syncs back up? I meant to test this but haven't had a chance yet. Has anyone tested this? If not I'll try it tonight.

True. There may be a "cloud" save file on the hard drive somewhere. Maybe a single "cloud" backup file where you would have access to everything in the cloud, but not necessarily a ton of individual save files.

Someone should look into that. lol

No, you either save to the HDD or to cloud storage. Not sure about the second question.
Also, do you need a storage device attached to take advantage of the cloud?
Not just a storage device, but an actual Hard Drive. Learned my lesson the hard way. A few months ago I decided to sell off my old 120gb HDD off my second system and just use an 8GB stick. Alas the cloud rolls out and that's not good enough. Cut to me standing in line at Gamestop buying a $20 used 20GB drive. :dunce:

Alas, I fell asleep last night and didn't test to see if cloud storage is accessible when offline. Hopefully I don't conk out tonight, LOL.

WTH is the volume so low on Netflix movies now? Is there a setting on the console for movies? I have to crank up the volume on the receiver now.

So the Connect site for this is gone? Thought they had something going on after the new year, or maybe misread something about that.

And we got nothing except the crappy dash this time around....kinda lame after getting the game last time.

The game wasn't a bonus for the hell of it. It was to test out the new disc format that they were switching to that offered more free space on the disc.

Yeah but after the disk was no longer any good they sent us all codes to download the digital version of the game, so I look at that as something extra they gave us. This time we got nothing, that I know of anyway.

Was just hoping for a little anything to compensate for the horrible dash/apps we all got stuck with now. It'd give me a reason to turn my xbox on (haven't used mine since before Christmas).

I think the only other Beta where people got something was the Kinect beta, where people actually got Kinects.

Also, we got 2 free UFC PPV's for free, which wasn't bad.

Blah blah blah... You don't like the 360, we get it. Saying the same thing 90 different times gets old pretty quick.

Seconded.

Blah blah blah... You don't like my complaining about the dash, ignore my posts then. :booty:

i don't know about you but i got 3 separate ufc ppv's for free which are normally $55 a piece for being in this beta. i will take that any day over one game for free that you can already get for really cheap. and before anyone says not everyone likes ufc, not everyone likes halo: reach either....

:applause: I agree, getting the UFC fights for free has been awesome!

So where do you go to see game trailers/videos downloaded from the marketplace? I can't find a way to watch them outside of the horrible zune player, I don't want to sit and wait a minute while zune loads up to watch videos.

Again, as someone pointed out, the "free" Halo Reach was payment for beta testing the new format. It wasn't a gift. And after the disc stopped working, they likely didn't wanna listen to a massive amount of complaints, so they gave out the codes. In the end, it wasn't a gift or an extra.

In this case, the extras are the apps. Most of them suck, but oh well. Deal with it. They aren't gonna put out a new dashboard AND give you free crap.

And if you haven't used your 360, why do you care the new dashboard sucks? Makes no sense.
Delete the Zune Player under Games/Apps and you won't have to sit through it anymore.
Hasn't worked for a while. Videos downloaded through Zune don't show up on the original video library.

But he just wants to watch game videos, right? You don't need the Zune Player for those. Besides, there's nothing really on the Zune Marketplace that you can't stream via another service.

He also said "videos downloaded from the marketplace" after mentioning game videos, which sounds like Zune stuff to me.

The Guild is the only thing I bother installing Zune to get since it doesn't come out on Netflix for a while afterwards.

I was talking game trailers. This worked great, thanks! I usually just watch the guild on my computer because I really hate having to deal with the zune app.

You misunderstood what I wrote. I'm not using the xbox because the dash sucks, before the new dash I used it every day (streaming video's from my pc mainly, netflix, and games), now it's more like once every two weeks for a minute to see if the crappy dash is still there, or to use the horrendous netflix app if my ps3 is busy downloading DCUO updates.

UFC...as far as that goes I don't watch it, didn't download the app, and gave them graphic feedback on where they could stick the UFC app. I'd have preferred something game related, like, I dunno, a game, even a $5 marketplace game would have been something. The other apps, total crap, the only app I had a use for was netflix, but only use it as a backup to the ps3 since it's so bad now.

I'll admit the Netflix is a step back in a lot of ways but it's not unusable. The rest of the dash really is not that bad. A few things are in different places, big deal; once you learn to use the bumper buttons to change categories it's really not bad.

Some people are just mortally opposed to change.

If you're turning it on to see if the crappy dash is still there, stop turning it on. It's not going anywhere. As far as getting something free other than UFC, they needed to test it. They don't owe anyone anything.
Delete the Zune Player under Games/Apps and you won't have to sit through it anymore.
Omg why didn't I think of that! Going to do this right now, lol.

I like the new dashboard. In fact think it's a lot better. When I had to go back to the old dash when I picked up a second Xbox a while back (during beta, before the release), the old dashboard felt like a big step backward. Go figure. Netflix is a different story, but it's not as bad as some make it out to be.

Might not OWE anything, but a "Thanks for beta testing", giving us feedback, commenting on others feedback, doing forms, spending time on the test forums, and dealing with the terrible dash, gift might've been nice. Just sayin...

Yeah the "getting something" is the dash weeks before anyone else to play around with. I'd say most consider that pretty cool on its own.

But trolls with ridiculous senses of entitlement don't feel that way. Still, the thought of him being unhappy does put a smile on my face.

Exactly, no one is making you beta test.

I don't know about anyone else but I've been using voice controls a lot when I'm lazy and don't have my controller on and I'm using Netflix.

Is it just me or is anyone else saving a bunch of money because the current dashboard doesn't seem to promote game products very well?

And think of all those sweet contests and free stuff I'm missing out on because I refuse to wade through all those tabs and squares to search for them.

There is only one square I click on now: "Play now" whenever a game is in the tray.
