But if what went on with the Xbox reveal falls on Mattricks shoulders you're insane to think he isn't expendable. I'd bet money that Don doesn't hold the same position come next Monday.
My original quote, and the following responses:

They won't know any implications on the reveal until q1 of 2014...

But you are apparently smarter than everyone so I don't know what the point in debating you really is...

They won't fully know until the X1 has been on the shelves for a few months. Not everyone takes the reveal as personally as some have.
*shakes head*

How about this, you leave this site for good if he still has a job next Monday. If he doesn't I will leave. Sound like a deal?
I bet you're glad I didn't take you up on this bet aren't you?

I think everyone thought he would be getting a promotion though, dont you agree Rippn? That seems the way of Corporations these days... put foot in mouth? Great, here's $500,000 more a year!

I'd say we could all agree him leaving is actually a good thing honestly right? :p

/Edit/ Wonder if J Allard might come back to take over for him? Been lot's of rumors about him coming back to Microsoft in some capacity. (Father of the Xbox fyi)

You continue to amaze me. It was widely thought and published that he would be getting a promotion. He didn't get fired, he took a job with another company. You continue to troll so hard that you can't even comprehend the situation.

Congrats! Rippin +1 Internet 0

You win again megamind!

this guy should have never took that job he will now be destroying farmville he will now have 80 year old women screaming at him for destroying thier game poor guy. :bouncy:

It will definitely be interesting to see what MS does now for sure!

Maybe they should hire Rippin!

Yusef is obviously next in line or Spencer. Hmmm this just got a bit more exciting!

i used to like major nelson now he has become an A** since this xbox one stuff has come out. I wonder how long till pr department says nelson is fired.

Yeah I'm sure he wasn't shoved out the door to a company that's on the verge of financial ruin...

Fantastic news, I attribute my switch from the 360 to the PS3 to his management and direction, but more important is who will take his place. It really needs to be a gaming centric guy. Also think they need a total house cleaning not just Mattrick, but also Spencer and even Hryb.

Agreed.

The restructuring is scheduled to take place today I believe. Internally at least.

If I had to pick from someone there that I actually like, I think that's Yusuf. He seems to be pretty passionate about games in general, and has been with Microsoft forever.

You really are a douche, when you're proven wrong you still attack? And he got fired idiot, he isn't going to a failing company because it looks attractive to him.

100% correct!

Oh btw here's the first free game of this month:

Defense Grid: The Awakening is a 3D tower defense game released on December 9th, 2008 on the Steam platform. Additionally, a version was later released for Xbox Live Arcade on September 2, 2009. The PC version contains 20 different maps. Each map can have multiple variations on the conditions, such as making the enemies harder or reducing the amount of resources the player has access to. There is a light story narrated by the player's AI companion, which involves the destruction of human civilization by a race of interdimensional aliens, the enemies in the game.
A winner is you, Microsoft...

Agreed.

Aaron Greenburg also seems like a pretty on the level guy, he's been good in interviews.

Where does it say he got fired genius?

Major nelson has always been a corporate puppet, his whole nice guy persona is just a act.

People are pushed out of companies all the time but allowed to save face by saying it was their choice.  Not saying that's what happened here but you can't take PR spin at face value.

You know as well as anybody else high-ranking execs rarely ever get fired. They'll get arrested before they actually get fired. This is the same corporate culture that we were already talking about where they make huge mistakes and get promoted. This is a very carefully worded story where the subtext is obviously, maybe Mattrick could've stayed but at best he'd be thrown down so deep a hole he'd never come out.

That isn't a quote from anyone, that's an assumption on BI's part they offer no evidence for that statement whatsoever. And there's always someone ready to take over, that's corporate culture.

I tend to think that he left of his own accord before getting fired or demoted (or possibly moved off the Xbox team all together).

It's just a bit odd that he announces hes leaving (WITHOUT having another job atm, just speculation) the very day a restructuring at the company is taking place. We know a memo went out and discussion with senior executives has happened or is happening right now....

Isnt it just a bit odd that he leaves *today*? Someone had to take the blame, and the guy saying "Stick with a 360" would be the most likely candidate in my opinion. There were far better things to say then that particular phrase.

Except the sentiment in most of the forums you post in is nobody can stand you. So take a hint.

io where are you?

Rippin - Cyberbully much?

It was an Xbox discussion until your above attacks on me, just because I quoted your snarky comments from a week ago when I stated Mattrick would be gone and took pleasure in rubbing it in your face. Now you want to appear as the victim and act like you're not part of the problem? Seriously guy...

I'm sorry you're right. You didn't call me out first.

Wanna take this to PM or continue to act up in this thread until we are both banned?

*grabs popcorn*

Seriously though you're both being a bit ridiculous.  The personal attacks are in no way necessary even if you don't agree with each other.  From past posts from both of you you both seem to be completely steadfast in your pro or anti MS views and nothing will change the others opinions.

It seems microsoft is slowly going downhill, each day its something negative.
Some will definitely see this as a positive.

So my cousin who is just a little older than me (mid 40s) was over this past weekend and she asked me about the X1. She's not big into the gaming scene at all and has two boys 15 and 11 and one girl who is 9. Her boys are already all over her about getting the X1. She has no idea what it does only that her boys say that it will be better than the 360 and they love their 360 and that this one actually comes with the Kinect. She says that even though it is a little more that she will probably get it because they loved their 360 so much. Pretty interesting look into this entire thing for me. I didn't offer any suggestions, I just wonder how many parents will think just like this.

There was one thing the player one broadcast brought up today that I didn't even think about for families-I think once parents hear all the swearing/racist/homophobic/sexist coming out of that Kinect from online a-holes you might get a lot of them returning it. You could hide that with a headset/mute option, pretty sure Kinect doesn't have that.

That's a pretty big gripe I have with having to have a Kinect but no included mic with the console.  As the Kinect is now if you have no mic the Kinect becomes your mic.  I can't even count how many people I've had to mute because they were constantly broadcasting every conversation they're having in the room.  It would be pretty dumb to not be able to mute the new one so I think it's gotta have that option but who knows, you'd think the current Kinect would have that option as well.

Considering the majority of that spew *comes from kids*, I really dont think their parents are around to hear it.

I mean, if some kid is stringing together words that even a sailor woudnt say right now on Xbox Live, I dont see how it would make a difference if its said through Kinect.

However, you can (as always) simply turn off voice chat just like you can currently on the 360.

Yes, the current Kinect you can turn off the Mic by the way. (http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-360/kinect/turn-kinect-features-on-or-off )

I didn't know that. I don't own one I just assumed it was impossible based on the amount of times I've run into people who don't. Well then I hope they make it very clear to people that it will be broadcasting unless they mute it because it seems many don't currently know that with the current Kinect.

kinect don't have audio coming out it dude

i have my kinect on mute 100 percent of the time during gameplay

I think he's more saying with a Kinect everyone will have a way to talk online and without an included headset many will have others talking coming straight out of their tv for all to hear instead of into headphones.

You mean to tell me you didn't go on and on about how amazing Kinect 2.0 will be? shocking lol, but seriously though I can totally see this happening with a lot with parents, they'll buy what their kids want even if its $100 more.

WTF dude sounds drunk. I found this funnier. We'll never know truly if he was pushed out or not but the timing is an amazing coincidence if not.

Rippn did call it though that's for sure. I remember reading that comment when you posted it and thinking that was a pretty big leap to assume he'd be gone. When you're right you're right though.

I can't hate on the guy to much he definitely did some amazing things with the Xbox 360 and was a major part of getting it to where it is now however the direction the X1 attempted to go under his leadership I was obviously not a fan of.

It's not unusual for promotion days to be marked with resignations on the same day. A lot of corporations do a mass promotion day to keep the promotion experience level within the office (i.e. senior managers 3 years can be compared against senior managers of 4 years without any worry of months in promotion overlapping. A difference in a year is a year period -not 6 months seniority). A lot of the evaluations are done at the same time so it's easier for a company to manage a wave of promotions all at once. Promotion parties are the best because open bar for everyone :)

At the same time, the employees that get passed over on promotion wait until that the anniversary mark because they can vest their options/bonuses/vacation/retirement payouts to leave. The writing was on the wall already at that point that Don was going to leave. Sometimes it's forced because you're an underperformer or you did something completely asinine like a PR shitbrick. To me, it seems like a lateral or possibly a demotion to be leaving MS for his Zynga promotion. Therefore the lack of a promotion tells me enough that it wasn't a good thing between Don and MS. It could be a variety of reasons but regardless it means it wasn't a good outcome between the two.
