Not "huge" but $50 is $50.

Thanks to Ugamer X for the picture:

Core ($250) + 20GB ($100) = $350

Same price as premium but no component cables or wireless controller.

MS needs to drop the price on all of the HDD's.
We're all assuming this is a price drop from MS, but what if it's just to gauge market reaction? MS calls a few retailers, tells them to start selling it for $50 for a little bit, and any consoles they sell MS will comp them. I'm sure we'll know more when the BB and CC ads come out in a few days, but it's just an idea.
lol i think its too far fetched

ms has to know what theyre doing and by putting it out $50 less at certain retailers doesn't make too much sense...but then again i wouldve marked the 360 down on the halo 3 launch date :hot:
not sure if anyone post it, it seem like the first-tier drop for now (just like ps3) they will probably drop another $50 after Halo 3, maybe b4 the holiday season... ps3 will go down another 100 then 360 will go down another 50..
Doubt it. Price drops usually occur every year and a half or so. Two in the same year would be insanity.
Not with the US dollar being almost at par with the Loony.
Microsoft doesnt know that. The 360 is $100 more here than in the states. They pretty sure the loonie is only worth about $.75

HAHAHA They jjust ran the funniest commercial for something called gameriot.

A guy tries to seranade some hot asian chiock at her balcony with guitar hero. And he fails the song!

canada gets the worst prices. exept for a few shops that are out of stock 24/7 now. At major crappy shops it's like 500(ish)for premium. 550 for the elite. So i'm ordering one from geeks.com with shipping a premium with 120gb hardrive for 470-480 canadian.
The price needs to drop more, considering you have to shell out for a wireless adapter and no hi-def DVD player plus it's out over a year. I got my 360 back from repair today, all that time away, don't really feel like playing anything on it yet. Still enjoying Zelda on the Wii.
Weird, I play on live without a Wireless Adapter, and my vga cable upscales all of my DVD's to HD.

Sony Fanboy FTL.
Why would you buy another one when there's the warranty...It's cool if you're a fanboy but show some intelligence instead of regurgitating stereotypes. Or are you being sarcastic; it's hard to tell these days with all the fanboys.
The warranty doesn't cover everything. Sure, they are fixing almost anything right now, but I'm sure that will change soon.

Well, looks like there's absolutely no ifs, ands, or buts about it anymore.

$50 price drop is as good as official.

Now I just wonder if the Core SKU is joining the group in droping to $250 (and will the elite go down to $330?)

That three year monster warranty only covers the red ring of death. If you get anything else outside of that, the three year doesn't cover it. And also, just because there's a warranty doesn't mean that everything is peachy when your system breaks. It's a hassle to send it in and repair it. I'm going to hold off on buying a 360 until the system failure rate goes down.

That's the biggest problem with the warranty. If your system dies, sure, they'll pay for it, but be prepared to be without a system for 2 months.

I'm hoping my launch system lasts me until the Falcon model comes out, then I'm going to trade it in.
349... still not worth it... now is not the time to invest any amount of money in an xbox 360.
Same for me.

I'll keep waiting until at least fall. I have enough on the Wii and DS to keep me busy the next 2 or 3 months.

Then maybe the cooler 65nm chips will be out, and/or retailers will be giving away free games, years of live etc. to soften the blow further.

Aug/Sept. is always a poor time to buy a console, as the holiday deals are just around the corner. Even more so this time given the 360 failure rate and the possibility of a redesign at any time.

Glad to see the price drop, I hope increases the user base and produces more games.

I've had my xbox 360 since about 6 months after launch thanks to 10% off at overstock.com. And with the price drop it makes it only $10 cheaper then what I paid.

I'm sure the folks here at CAG will find coupon codes at places to make the deal sweeter for forum members.

With the TRU free $50 GC deal, doesnt the receipt show a $50 discount on the system itself and $50 price for the GC? When I did the free $100 GC thing back in Dec, they basically made me buy a $100 GC and discounted the system by $100 (so if you decide to return just the system later on, you're still stuck paying for the GC)

I doubt they'll drop the Elite to $400 ($50 difference from premium system is too small for extra 100gb of space and HDMI). They'll probably keep the elite around $420

They'll probably have to drop the hard drive prices too ($180 to probably $150 which is still too much)
Microsoft doesnt know that. The 360 is $100 more here than in the states. They pretty sure the loonie is only worth about $.75
Lol I remember those days. It was great since I went to college in Buffalo near the Peace Bridge. You could get stinking drunk at some of the bars accross the way for next to nothing when paying USD (at 19 even). Man I love my Canuck brothers from college..those were some good times and good road trips.

it makes perfect sense for MS to drop the price in early to mid august. Let see Madden 08 releases in mid Aug. Halo 3 releases in late Sept. & GTA IV releases in mid Oct. All of the 3 games I just mentioned were HUGE sellers back in 04 for the xbox and Peter Moore/MS made note of that at this years E3. Also let's not forget the rest of the 360 xclusives bioshock in late Aug. & Mass effect in Nov.

The only optimal 360 configuration today that should warrant a purchase would be.......

360 Black Elite HDMI/bigger hard drive + better chips + quieter fan noise + $50-100 price drop.

From what I've seen everything will have nice and even pricing now:
Elite - 399
Premium - 349
Core - 249

If the Elite goes down to 399 I'll have no problem shelling out for it. I don't know how to fill up 120 gb (other than IPTV?) or that I'd use the HDMI anytime soon, but I'm a man that looks to the future ;)

I'm a CAG at heart so I'm still gonna wait a few years for a 360. I did that with the Xbox and Gamecube last console cycle and was able to pick up the best games at bargain prices. Maybe I'll jump on a premium for $300 in the next year if possible.

artredis1980 from NeoGaf says

have it coming from a reliable source that CURRENTLY

The Core will drop to 279
The Premium will drop to 349
The Elite will drop to 449

This will clear out the inventory of the Premium which is the most manufactured 360 and the most sold as they know Premium will sell the most until the demand for Elites pick up in 2008. Elites and Cores have relatively the same manufacturing percentage: low at the moment until FALL this year.

When the 65 nm processor falcons are introduced across all SKUs, the holiday season, a month or so after Halo 3 will see the core drop to $249, The Premium will drop to $299 and the Elite will drop to $399

The Core, Premium and Elite Falcons will have a redesigned motherboard which includes HDMI across all SKUs, a quieter DVD Drive and the falcons will STILL have an extra fan heatsink as Microsoft is not prepared to take anymore risks.

The Falcon will reduce the cost to manufacture the Xbox 360 CPU and GPU by ~40-50% but Microsoft will incure additional costs on the new fans and HDMI across all SKUs. Still at the 249,299 and 399 price, Microsoft will expect a profit from the console by early 2008 when the Q4 results are announced.

EDIT: Clearing out inventory of 90nm so they mostly have 65nm on shelves this holiday season

Also, Cheapy or a moderator, I think it would be nice to change the thread title to remove all the cursing. I'm no stranger to a swear, but having it on the front page like that can change the site to NSFW for some people, me included.

FYI, I was the OP but that isnt my title.

It is quite snazzy though.lol
You know, that's completely realistic.
Microsoft making a profit on their system is realistic? Haven't they been losing millions for years?

That was my title, but it's changed now.
Hey, this is a classy joint. We gotta keep our shit respectable.

I was surprised it stayed in the title for so long.
Microsoft making a profit on their system is realistic? Haven't they been losing millions for years?
They've been making money off every 360 sold for a while now.

I expected hell from someone, but you, Cheapy? I'm wounded. Lanky bastard!
Microsoft making a profit on their system is realistic? Haven't they been losing millions for years?
The price structure, of course.
Doesn't look like any Wal-Mart ad I've ever seen. Besides, this could be a clearance to make room for the more reliable units.
I beg to differ, as it looks exactly like the ads that Walmart has been running the past year...down to the layout, pricing bubbles, and font.

While a $50 price drop is nice, give me that 65nm CPU core refresh to reduce heat issues and you got yourself a customer, Microsoft.

I prefer snazzy.

If this is true then maybe CC knew this in advance? When I bought my 360 Elite 2 weeks ago I paid $479.99 for the console and a 1 year gold subscription. The receipt shows that I paid $430.00 for the console and $49.99 for the Live Gold card. So if the price drops to $419.99 for the Elite, I get a whole $10.01 back.

Of course, had I waited until the price dropped, I still would have paid $469.98 ($419.99 for the Elite + $49.99 for the Live Gold card).

Not that any of it matters. I have Gears of War, Crackdown and Guitar Hero to remind me that it was worth it.
The warranty doesn't cover everything. Sure, they are fixing almost anything right now, but I'm sure that will change soon.
Shouldn't the (base) warranty cover pretty much everything except wear and tear and user error for the first X months or whatever?

First 12 months is total. Next two years is only RROD.

No. there was a sale for getting a free Live Gold Card that week and they take the price off the free item and mark down the price on the console.
