Not "huge" but $50 is $50.

wait....i'm confused. So if I wait and don't buy a 360 for halo 3, then I get a better cheaper system. But if I do...I'm stuck with a greatly inferior console?
When the 65 nm processor falcons are introduced across all SKUs, the holiday season, a month or so after Halo 3 will see the core drop to $249, The Premium will drop to $299 and the Elite will drop to $399
Hope that pans out, as that's exactly what I want. $300 for premium with the new chips. And waiting until Oct/Nov is ideal as well as I have a backlog to clear out as is.

I work for WM in the Electrioncs dept.. and trust me, I've heard nothing of this, and seen notrhing of this "AD' and we get our ad's well in advanced....

well in advanced? So we have two circulars proving a drop? Hmm. unless its a temporary price break on these authorized by MS and not a permanent drop.
What about the Core Sytem that's $299? Will that Drop in price?
No one knows for sure, but it would make sense.

I've heard $249 and $279 as the dropped prices.
artredis1980 from NeoGaf says
I don't know. If it's true that they're introducing HDMI to all consoles in the fall, then the only difference between the regular and Elite is 100 etra GB. artredis1980's scenario sees the price difference between those two models as $100... but the 20GB drive currently costs $100, and the 120GB is $180. It's hard to believe that you'd be getting a WORSE deal by upgrading at the start.

Also, two price drops within 3 months of each other is tough to swallow. I really can't see it happening.

actually it's smart marketing, assuming their after elite sales. Because some guy is going to want to buy a premium and see that the hd is 180 and think that it would be a better deal to shell out for an elite, and he'll buy the elite instead.

my favorite part is that it's a month after Halo 3-- so they'll get everyone to buy their old, crappy stock first, in other words

So if I were to buy a 360 manufactured in... July, would it have the new Xbox 360 components?

When should I buy a 360 when price doesn't matter and reliability does... I'd like to have a second one by late august.

well if a perfect world we would all boy-cott 360s all over the world forcing ms to release the new chips but it's not perfect and the new chips hopfully will be out early novemeber....i hope.

I can't wait till November, lol. That's IF the new ones come out by then. No source posts on some forum don't exactly give me confidence in the truth to that. I'll take my chances. If it goes down -- so be it.

If new parts is the thing, i'd wait till some hacker site confirms different hardware inside the case, I think the only real difference they've made so far is the addition of a heatsink on the repaired consoles that people are getting back. there has been no confirmation of significant hardware changes, even in the elite.

This is awesome! Not the price cut, though. It's the fact that CAG is fast becoming THE place to check out for all upcoming price drops on consoles. :)

Well as long as we're dreaming: in a perfect world, there never would have been a problem with the current chips in the first place. Still, I'm going to remain 360-less until I see some solid evidence that the newer model 360s (whenever they start showing up) are more reliable, and less noisy.

To add credibility to the rumor, there was a rumor about 2 weeks ago about a 100$CAN price drop on August 1st, which would make sense since the 360Premium is currently priced at 499$CAN (~470$US).

This price drop will be for all the cheap ass gamers like me who were waiting for the 360 to be cheaper, and it will clear the inventory of "old" 90nm 360s... then they will release the 65nm version right before christmas.

It will be hard to wait for Falcon with GTAIV, Halo3 and AceCombat6 coming out soon..

I can't even go on a diet.....not that I need to because i'm 16, 5"8 and 98 pounds, lol. but i can't eat healthy!

edit: I'm eating candy as I type this.

wtf..?? I don't get it , are you on some sort of sugar rush??

nah it's that i've got no will power, that i could never go on a diet or eat healthy and i'm eating candy right now and thats how hard it is to wait for the 360 :(

You're not kidding about the wait being hard. I decided a long time ago that the 360 was what I'd be going with for this generation, but I also decided to wait until there was at least one price drop, and more reliable units being put out. In the meantime, I picked up Viva Pinata several months ago when it was on sale for $20, I've preordered GTA IV and Mass Effect from LionGames, and yesterday I got four 1600 point cards from the CC fiasco.

I've been telling myself right along that there is NO WAY I'll still be without a 360 when GTA IV launches, but if it's just a matter of another couple months wait for the (hopefully) more reliable Falcons to be out, I don't know what the hell to do now. :wall:

Damn you MS for making me look more ridiculous by the day!
...
Thanks for the info Cheapy! This is GREAT news. I'm going to keep holding out for a Falcon this fall-hopefully we'll be able to tell somehow from the outside of the box.

I guess if it's a "Premium" and it has HDMI, that automatically means it's a Falcon? I guess in that case I'll go for a $350 Falcon, as I really don't care about storage space, and want to make sure I get a quieter, more reliable model.
So if I were to buy a 360 manufactured in... July, would it have the new Xbox 360 components?
No.

When should I buy a 360 when price doesn't matter and reliability does... I'd like to have a second one by late august.

If these rumors are true, late this year. Just hold on.

Just wait. We've got tons of other great games on other platforms to tide us over. If this is all true (and it jives with everything we've heard), this is well worth waiting for. The current model has an excellent chance of sounding like a blender, and dying on you. The new model will supposedly be cheaper, quieter, and more reliable.

Don't feel bad. There are others like myself who are right there with you. I personally have been holding out since launch for Halo 3. I've said for years, "When Halo 3 arrives, that's when I'm buying a 360." But with news that the cheaper and more reliable Falcons won't arrive until a month or two after Halo 3, I'm going to hold out and allow those hardcore gamers a leg up in Halo 3 rankings. It sucks, but I think it'll be worth it.

Just think if you've waited this long, a little longer to get a system that hopefully won't crap out on you and hopefully is even cheaper than $350 won't kill you.

Though I guess it's easier for me as the 360 falls in the "I'd like to have one" category rather than the "OMG I MUST have one" category for me. There's a lot of games out and coming out that I want to play, but only a couple of MUST plays, and combined with limited time for games and a decent amount of stuff coming on the Wii and DS the rest of the year makes the wait not so hard for me.

So no problem waiting for the new chips, a lower price and a retailer bundle giving away a game or two that I want (i.e. not old games like Viva Pinata or CoD2).
Any piece of electronics can fail. Don't wait on hardware if you want to play it now.
But not every piece of electronics has been acknowledged to be defective by it's producer, nor has a redesign to fix those in the works.

I'd assume most people still waiting on 360s weren't dying to buy one or they'd have already got one, so waiting a few more months for a redesigned system rumored to also be cheaper than the current ones (even after $50 drop) should be fine.

But yes, if anyone is still dying for one (i.e. Halo fans that haven't bought one yet) buy all means jump on board next week if the price drop happens. The 3 year warranty gives you some peace of mind at least.

Defects aside, $350 is still more than I'm willing to pay for a 360, so I have no problems waiting.
I'm going to hold out and allow those hardcore gamers a leg up in Halo 3 rankings. It sucks, but I think it'll be worth it.
Probably one of the main reason it pisses me off to wait for Falcon. I think i might just bite the bullet and get the 90nm 360 and hope it doesn't RROD on me.

A little bit off-thread, but i wonder if the falcon 360 will only have a smaller die-size or will it also have a smaller power supply, slimmer casing and new features?? (like better d-pad)

im curious. i read somewhere else here in CAG about purchasing an extended in store warranty that grants exchanges with no questions asked. Could one buy a system now, then when the falcon chips come out, exchange it for a new system? Also, does anyone think another price cut will occur in the next 6 months?
Any piece of electronics can fail. Don't wait on hardware if you want to play it now.
This is an extreme exception. So close to some improvements/changes, if you bite now you shoot yourself in the foot and don't get the most out of your dollar.
This is an extreme exception. So close to some improvements/changes, if you bite now you shoot yourself in the foot and don't get the most out of your dollar.
well put, it's like if you want ice cream and in two hours you get 2 scoops for the price of one. Your hungry now and it's hot but it's worth the wait. Buy now and regret it later.

I know it's a shot in the dark as it's an electronic. But is their a place where you cna buy it, and return it even if it's opened after a good little while. I would get by, return it and get a falcon :p. I doubt such a place is in existance but I would go for it if I could find it.

is that a garuntee? like even if it isn't broken what would they charge to replace the insides? If it's not too much I really want to play halo 3. If I asked microsoft would they give me an answer, now?

They're obviously not going to upgrade it for you. If it breaks, you'll get the same console back, or a different one of the same model. You are NOT going to get back a Falcon.

Of course not. But when they are full-scale Falcon production, you think they'd risk pissing more people off by simply fixing the known faulty components? They are in full-scale PR blitz, as evidenced by fixing consoles that have been opened.

according to the xbox forums, by the users opinions and own gathering from people he knows that work at stores and like what we've been doing here, all xbox's made in July will be the 'falcon' and hit stores in a few weeks and some say you won't see them until mid augest, early september...but still before halo 3 then :D. How reliable this is, we won't know until then but I hope they are right.

So we think ANY system made in July of this year or later is automatically a Falcon? Does that mean they all have HDMI (and thus HDMI on a Premium or Core would be an easy way to be sure)?

Everything about the Falcon having HDMI is just hearsay for now.

Okay, thanks. Darn, I wish HDMI and a quieter system were sure things.

On top of that, how about a big redesigned 360 box that says "FiXed Edition", so we can be absolutely sure :D
349... still not worth it... now is not the time to invest any amount of money in an xbox 360.
because....?

ya well you odn't know that :p could be an elaborate trick and we'll only realize once we bought it that the chip thats comming out g-d knows when to replace the falcon is actually the fix and refunds are unattainable. I can only assume it will lead to cannibalism. That aside, I agree.
because....?
The redesigned units should be out in a couple of months at the latest.

Plus this is a shit time to buy a console period as the holiday sales, free game giveaways etc. at retailers are just a few months away.
