Xmen Legends - which system?

I recently got a Gamecube to complement my PS2. Which system is Xmen Legends better for? I am leaning towards GCN, because if I ever get enough controllers I can play with multiple ppl (I don't own a multitap for ps2). However, the GCN controller feels a bit weird to me.

I seem to remember someone asking this question earlier, but I searched for awhile and couldn't find it. If someone can link to it, this can be locked. Thanks!

Cube...I never noticed much different between my firneds and mine (PS2 vs. cube) but I think there is a slightly less load time for the cube. Besides, you could always use a new game for a new system right?

And like most any other game you get used to the controls after only a little bit.

75% of the appeal of X-Men Legends for me is as a multiplayer beat-'em-up along the lines of that classic arcade game. For that reason, I'd go with the Cube.

Cool thanks. I can definitely use new games for my new system :)

Now I just need a couple of Wavebirds so my wife and I can play from the bed...

I recently picked up a Gamecube, and this is the exact same question I've been pondering. Thanks Backlash! I guess the Xbox version does not feature multiplayer either?

XBOX has multiplayer but no XBL multiplayer. It's a matter of 4 controllers (XBOX and GC) vs. 2 (PS2) without the multi-tap.

I believe they all do, its just that he has a PS2 and Cube, to play multiplayer with the PS2 version he would need a multitap(read: bullshit) to enable 4 players and controllers on top of that.

I say go with cube, multiplayer couldnt be funner than 4 wavebirds where everyone sits where they want and can get frustrated, pull back and not take the system with them

Can someone please confirm that the story mode in X-Men Legends is four-player co-op? I've been considering buying this from Gamefly for $27 (more than I tend to spend on games, but I love me some four-player multiplayer and the game studio, Raven, is local) but Gamefly says that the story mode is only two-player co-op. If that's the case, what are the four-player modes and are they any good?

The game does have four player co-op but does not start out four players. You have to play a little of the game by yourself before the other X-men join your party.

Multiplayer is played like this . . .
At all times (after a certain point) four players (characters) will be on screen and useable to play. If you are playing by yourself you can switch between any of the four teammates on the fly. If you have other controllers plugged in and a buddy comes by all he has to do is press start on the other controller and he can join in the action same for player 3 and 4.

OK, cool. I tend not to be crazy about unlockable multiplayer capability (I disliked that I couldn't rent Pikmin 2 with my wife and have us both play unless we spent the time to beat the whole thing; not easy to do on a short rental term with two kids under 3), but that sounds reasonable.

You play the first 10 minutes and then unlock a second player.

Players can switch in and out on the fly (very easy).
Though upgrading your character is slightly tedious as it requires breaking from the action (and everyone has to then watch) even if you want to autoset your points.

Note though, between missions when you can tool arond the mansion, is a strictly single player experience. For 4 people it is unbearably slow and even for only 2 people it drags. Most of the time you can skip this, but that means you will be missing a part of the game (which may be unappealing)

I just wanted to add that the XBOX version is one of the few 720p games. If you have a TV capable of 720p, it looks pretty frikkin' sweet.

phat, that's a good point -- its price is dropping everywhere and will probably be at $30 MSRP soon, at which point getting it new on sale or used for $25 or less will be easy. I don't need it now, and Gamefly's deal isn't that good. Better to be patient.
N-gage obviously
You know, I don't own an N-Gage but I have been looking at the ver of X-Men Legends for it. It looks great. It may be that system's killer app.

Shorter load times and four controller ports.

Plus, there's just something about comic books games and Nintendo. Got me. o_O

Go for the Cube so you don't have to bother with the multi-tap. But the PS2 controller feels more natural. I think I bought it for around $25 at BB during the 2004 holidays.

A word of warning though... I was dissapointed because I thought the game would be multiplayer right off the bat (like the old school Xmen Arcade game from the early 1990s). I must have played at least 3-hours and only progressed to the part in the story where there are 2-players (Wolverine and Cyclops). Plus I kept dying (too hard, I suck). We just gave up since 3 of my friends were visiting from out of town and only had a fininte amount of time. Haven't touched it since.

BTW, the developers said they are going to fix this problem for X-men 2, the sequel. So that it would be a more friendly multiplayer/co-op experience.

I personally got the Xbox version... the box says 720p but it doesn't seem compatible with my TV so I have to switch that off. I remember NBA Ballers for Xbox had a similar problem and the publisher said not to run the game at that resolution.
