"There are thousands of games available for Windows XP. All the well known titles cost money to own. This guide covers the better Freeware games from Independent Developers and Commercial Publishers. The following games are 100% free full games, not Demos or Shareware. None have any Adware or Spyware. Every game listed has been installed and tested for basic compatibility with Windows XP. Most of the Games will work on Windows 2000 and older versions of Windows just check the requirements. Hopefully this will provide you with some good entertainment without ever having to spend a dime."

Tons of freeware games here. For the true Cheapass gamer!:applause:

ahhh a babylon 5 game yay. too bad that real b5 game got canned so long ago..with all that work and video they shot for it, they should have released it to the public and let someone pick up the pieces.

Armagetron is so frickin' sweet! Once you download some graphics mods from their forum, it looks exactly like Tron. And online play is amazing. HIGHLY recommended.
I'd hit GameHippo instead. Much better layout, and way more titles cataloged and reviewed. That and the Freeware category on Underdogs cover a decent chunk of what's online.
You don't understand the purpose of this page:

This is not intended to be an all inclusive Guide but a reference to target the better Freeware titles.

There are many sites like GameHippo, look at the Freeware Game Links on the side of the page. The problem is those sites include hundreds of garbage games and are simply trying to list every free game no matter how crappy it is. Some are DOS based or in other languages ect....

True, nobody should be subjected to the Pepsi Virtual Reality Game.

Just throwing out a couple of the sources I find to be well organized, with plenty of user rating/reviews and options to sort by community or editor ratings, which does help filter out a lot of garbage. XP compatibility is less of an issue with the likes of DosBox and DFend, anyway.

The thing about the Underdogs is they have those mini reviews. For example, with the Pepsi game, they said it was garbage. They're offering it to you and you are free to download it, but they make sure to tell you it sucks.

Ahh mastertech is back. And this site really isn't that good. Nothing too great. There are much better sites out there like liberatedgames.com, etc. Most of the games at gametunnel are better than the ones here.
DOS based games are bad?
Dos games are long dead and most people do not want to be bothered using comnpatibility mode or DOS emulators. Regardless there are plenty of sites for people interested in DOS games. This site focuses only on Windows XP.

Underdogs is another all inclusive site only it includes pirated games labeled "abandonware". It is also listed in the Freeware Games Links on the left.

Liberated Games does not have many actual games to download. It has a big list were a huge portion are just source code or links to unplayable beta builds.

GameTunnel games are not free. Why did you even mention that?

You're joking right? Do you see yourself as the all knowing, all intelligible gamer?

Liberatedgames has a ton of games that can be downloaded. Yes they have source codes, but the majority listed there are playable.

GameTunnel has plenty of free games. Not all are free, but there are plenty of independent developers that provide their games at no cost at all to the public. Look at the hundreds of variations of javanoid there. Many are freeware. Not everything is free on the site, but most games on there that are free are definitely better then the majority of the ones you listed.

Also, Dos games have a very strong community with plenty of developers still creating games in that format. I know plenty of people that love playing Dos games, as well as my brother's kids who'd rather play most DOS games (text based/adventure games) then the stuff they have for PS2.

Apparently I am the only one here who actually went through all the links at Liberated Games. There are a handful that are full Windows Ports. The far majority are source code, Linux or Mac builds.

You might as well use Google to find free games. If they are there, they are few and far between. Javanoid? Have you tried LBreakout? It is the same thing and IMO better. Also no Web Based games are listed either like Flash or Java ones. As for better you might want to try every game there before making ridiculous statements like that.

Look I have no problem if people want to play DOS games, have fun but they have nothing to do with this thread. If you want to start a thread on DOS games feel free. No offense but even when I played DOS games I hated text based games, you might as well play with a speak and spell.

So yes to clarify this site has nothing to do with DOS based games, text based games, web based games (java/Flash), Sites that try to sell you games (gametunnel) and sites full of source code (liberated games). It is also not a comprehensive list of every free game in existence because most are horrible.

You know what's awesome?

DOS games. Whether or not it takes 5 minutes of configuring a legacy emulator to get it running, lots of free DOS games have similar if not higher production values.

And if Mastertech is to be believed, this means I also enjoy ripping the bone out of my nose and beating prey to death with it.

Seriously, you don't need to be antagonistic just because you have a free games website, and some community members bring up similar websites. A free games thread shouldn't be about whoring one site and shooting down all other valid contributions. And as far as starting seperate threads for free games on distinct operating systems, fuck that noise. It's better to have one list of sites, broken down by operating system if that's even necessary than to clutter up the board with five or six threads which will inevitably have redundant entries.

First of all the thread is labeled XP Games. It has ZERO to do with DOS games. Second I am well aware of the all in one sites, which is why there is a list of them on the page. Thank you.
