Yet More Craigslist Stupidity!

Had not one but two big lots I was supposed to pick up this morning, one I was meeting at a public location near where they lived at 9:30 and the other down the street from that one at 10. Both of them never showed up, never called or emailed to cancel and when I tried to call them to find out where they were they immediately pressed the ignore button on their phones. Now I remember why I don't travel to meet people, waste of time and gas.

What was it you were going to pick up?

What was it you were going to pick up?
One lot was a lot of 65 Genesis, SNES and N64 games, half of which were CIB and some good ones such as Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine, Bomberman 64 Second Attack, International Soccer 2000. All for $110

The other was 3 Game Boy Colors, 2 Game Boy Pockets, Xbox, 2 Pokemon Blues, Pokemon Silver, and then over 80 more games that were commons all for $100. There might have been a Gamecube I can't remember.

Oh look, its one of THESE posts again:

"Hi! Recently I showed my 6 year old daughter who She-Ra and He-Man are. Well, she completely flipped out and is asking Mommy to please buy her the toys!! I have looked, and continue to look online but what I am finding is WAY expensive!! If you have any of these toys, please email me back. If you know of where I can purchase them, that info would be appreciated as well! I am also looking for Battle Cat and Swiftwind! Thanks so much"

Translation: I am a toy dealer. Please sell me your rare and valuable toys for 50 cents each because hey, its for my KID!

I keep seeing this crap in every city on CL. Sometimes you see the variation with video games too (my 8 month old loves vectrex!) Even if its for real, she already said she found them online and they are expensive.....yeah and? You should get them for free because you have a kid?

This is even worse than the "I am looking for a game I had as a kid called Stadium Events" people!

I recently started scouring craigslist for a good deal on an IPad (yeah not going well with that) and just can't believe the buffoonery going on.  My mind is blown several times a day:

http://altoona.craigslist.org/vgm/3919852245.html - $5 to $10 dollars worth of games for $150

http://altoona.craigslist.org/vgm/3911085734.html - This wasn't isn't so bad but is written up poorly.  I contacted him about 3 - 4 games assuming they were 12 but he meant all of them together so he was looking for $320 for all the games.  Not sure why you wouldn't just state that.  And good luck with that.

I really don't know what he is tryin to do but it takes longer than 5 minutes to fix a ps3.

Whenever I'm e-mailing people I usually throw in a reference to MAGFest and that we'll just be sharing the games and not reselling them. In my case it's pretty easy to prove that I am who I say I am (it'll be even easier when my profile on the new site is up) and considering that my budget is tiny I don't mind bringing it up. It doesn't get me extra attention very often, but the one time it did someone donated Earthbound and a bunch of other awesome SNES games to us. They're getting free badges to MAG, and Earthbound will be playable during the event and then auctioned off at the end for Child's Play.

Where the hell this guy getting his prices from??

http://www.komonews.com/news/local/Local-man-robbed-3-times-buying-electronics-on-Craigslist-214692761.html

No one should get robbed, but this guy apparently makes a living buying stolen merch on CL and reselling it to unsuspecting consumers.

I don't feel sorry for the guy one bit. The buyer went to buy 50 Iphones for $32,000 thousand dollars.

Personally If I was going to meet a stranger on craigslist for a 32k transaction I would either be carrying myself or at the very least if you have 32k to drop on a dime then hire some dam security or a bodyguard.

If he can tote around 32K, he should think about getting some sort of protection, a body guard or a weapon.

While I'd like to believe that everyone is nice and won't rob me or bludgeon me to death, it's not that sort of world.
So far all of my CL meets have been great, but I'm not stupid. I try to do meetups in public well populated places, like inside the Target or Walmart near me, but there have been a few that are "PICKUP ONLY". I'm a girl, so I am definitely carrying something for those types of situations. I don't go to some stranger's house without a line of defense, that's just silly.

And then there's this guy on the other end of it. Using his business as a front to case homes to later burglarize and sell the stolen crap on Craigslist

You shouldn't go to a strangers house whether armed or not. I'm a guy in good physical shape and I don't do that.

I used to have craigslist people come to my house and go to theirs. Once I started seeing the different type of characters I started to realize how much risk there was. Then on top of that I'm reading articles and movies about the craigslist killer and murders and rapes on craigslist. After that I totally changed how I operate with doing business on craigslist. It's not worth a nickel and dime savings if something bad happens.

I don't have a mentality that just because I'm armed that I'm safe. Carrying a piece doesn't guarantee you get the first shot nor your safety. It's just better to have it if needed then not to have it at all. That said when someone plans on doing bad intentions they are at a higher chance of accomplishing what they planned vs you being able to stop the situation. Which is why it's better to avoid rather then be prepared for them.

If someone refuses to meet me in a public place now I end the deal right there no matter the story they give. Don't really care how good the deal is.

I think I almost had a incident before where someone was going to try to steal my New PS3 controllers.

The guy just gave me the impression like he was about to try something. I was hanging on the guys drivers door and was ready for a fist fight and I think the only thing that stopped that was the guy was intimidated by me. Maybe I'm wrong and the guy was perfectly legit but he sure made me feel like he wasn't thinking of trying something.

Definitely safety first.

Like I said, so far I've been fine, but reading and hearing all the crazy going on had definitely made me stop and think. Everyone's different as far as physical aspects and preparedness for varying situations, and I am careful with where I go for what deal. It's just a personal preference for me to know that I have something on me that I know how to use for any oh S**T situations.

All of my recent deals have been at the nearby public areas, one was at a police station, the seller was more paranoid than I was, and I'm pretty sure he was relieved I was a tiny girl showing up for games instead of a huge guy. LOL

This idiot "reseller" was going to pay $32,000 for only 50 iphones? That's $640 a phone! He would have been getting robbed, one way or the other. This entire story smells like bullshit.

Agreed on all aspects of safety first. Remember to get details in electronic form - email, text, phone number records and notify someone prior to the deal as to the details - where you are meeting, what time, any contact information you have on them etc. If you are REALLY paranoid, you can tell them that you will call them within X minutes or at X time and if they don't hear from you, to proceed accordingly. You can subsequently tell any ne'erdowells that their electronic information and details are recorded and that someone is expecting your call or to be back and knows the details of the meeting, so it's not worth it to try anything foolish. That should help to dissuade any shitheads from trying anything funny or criminal, and keep everyone cool and level headed.

Yea no shit, I guarantee $10,000 was the price for all 50 and not a downpayment like he said and the guy lied about the price in the article so that he wouldn't seem like as much of an asshole for fencing stolen stuff.

When I worked in sales I met one of these thiefs. The one I encountered tried to open a store credit card to purchase 11 50" Panasonic Plasmas supposedly for a bar he was opening. We found out later he was using someone else's Social Security number and when that didn't work he used a Credit Card. I noticed the name on the card was different then the one the credit card actually belonged to as the cardholder information was pulled up on the computer. Ended up having the store's Loss Prevention team and a police officer approach him but he ran away through the woods behind the mall and got away.

These people make me more sick then any kind of non-violent thief as they're not stealing 50 iPhones from Apple or Best Buy, they're stealing them from every day people and potentially ruining people's credits and lives. I was a victim of identity theft over a year ago and my credit is still nowhere close to what it was before it happened.

I've been going back and forth with this fool on craigslist for a little while. After I said I was going to pass he writes back something about being a cheap ass fucker and not to waste his time. I'm always very nice to people on c-list and anytime I decide to pass on something I usually right back with something like "thanks, but I'll have to pass". I thought it was better etiquette to let someone know that I'm no longer interested in their stuff.

I've gone back a few times without swearing or anything else and he just keeps throwing these massive tantrums and crying about how he is going to report me, flag me, etc.

I finally wrote back to him saying "Sadly your tantrum has gone from relatively funny to kind of pathetic, and because of that I won't bother responding to anymore of your crying. I thought you were also going to block me a few e-mails ago?

Feel free to write back though. I'll gladly read one more little hissy fit."

He then cries a little more and says "And now you also want to get homophobic with me". He already mentioned me being a "bigot", but I guess tantrum or hissy fit was homophobic in his mind. I feel like writing back some more, but after I said I was all done I feel like I should just walk away. He obviously is either a kid or more likely just some deranged adult.

I would have just let it go after his email.  I don't like wasting my time with idiots.  I mean, if you find it entertaining then keep it going, but there's no real point.

That sounds like a time I was going to sell a game to someone and we agreed on a time to meet the next day with the condition that they email me to confirm the meet at least an hour before. They weren't sure if they were absolutely going to make it. They didn't email until 15 min before, which I of-course missed.

I finally saw the chain of emails about 30 minutes after our planned meet time. Started with "Are we still going to meet" to "I'm not going to leave until you email me" to "I'm leaving, I hope you get this." to "I'm here, are you here yet" to "We are still waiting" to "Ok, been here 30 minutes still waiting" to "We're leaving, my mom told me to call you a douche-bag".

I originally responded before the the douche-bag email apologizing and suggesting meeting almost immediately. Then I read the douche-bag email, so I responded that I was no long interested in selling the game to a brat. This prompted a response from the mother calling me a douche-bag again (original..right?) and complaining about wasting gas and for me to have some "Craigslist Etiquette". I responded with a simple it's your fault because you emailed too late, left without confirming I was even going to be there, and regarding the "Craigslist Etiquette".. you told your son to call me a douche-bag. I also mentioned that she was a terrible parent buying her son (I assume under the age of 18) a rated M game (Bioshock). At that point I felt like piling it on because she irritated me. I didn't get a response at that point.

Mind you, I have sold literally hundreds of items on Craigslist. Every time I am always professional and have never been late/stood someone up. I even hang around for 20 to 25 minutes waiting for people if they are going to be late themselves, and have in the past given people money back if the item doesn't work for some reason. This yuppy mom getting lippy with me kind of pushed me over the edge saying I didn't have "Craigslist Etiquette" when they started the name-calling game.

I've actually started to make YouTube videos to show that my stuff works. I refuse to not meet at public places. There was some robberies in my area recently that were part of a CL transaction

Oh, that is too good. Time to use another throwaway email address and troll him hard. IS YOUR STUFF STILL AVAILABLE?!? I WANT IT I WILL PAY YOUR ASKING PRICE!!! Then start stringing him along that you are homebound and he has to deliver. Offer to throw in extra if he balks, just sweeten it to the point he can't resist...all flies love sugar. Then send him to the shadiest ghetto...

Anyone want to buy this ugly turd of a case painting?

I don't even understand how people would remotely think anyone would buy this.. My 5 year old does better finger paintings than this...

Sweet Jesus, look at the squalor and filth in the background! Talk about a junkie shithole...beautifully painted X360! I need my next quick fix of crack/meth/bath salts STAT!

I actually did that last year. A guy was selling his dreamcast and about 10-15 games. We went back and forth and on the day of arrival he no-showed.

I was pisst because he had some games I really wanted. Anyways I made another email account, we went back and forth and this time he showed up.
Turned out this guy was a kid and knew nothing about selling online. I gave him some tips and advice and then went home happily.

Today I had some buyer decide to tell me to F off. Lol. Apparently he only emails via his iPod. I have pics of the stuff I am selling, but he wants a full list in written text. Back of my mind, I tell myself the reason he can't see anything is this guy is using an iPod. Lol. Also I'm selling a lot of stuff and really couldn't be bothered to put a list together.

Anyways i reply back, tell the guy that's not very professional and he won't get far in life talking like that. Told him I could give him a list but he needs to wait a few days. It's my bday and i will be celebrating.
We shall see what his response is.

I'll just leave this here.

Taking any offers or trades!! Text me at 5049823476

Comes with only the system! Nothing else. No wires no controls. There is writing on it and a lot of marks.
Not that outrageous, but what sort of offers could they possibly expect for a SNES with no wires/controllers/games or even an assurance that it works?

I wish I had posted them when I saw them, they're gone now, but there have recently also been several feud posts between a local reseller and "collectors."
