Yet More Craigslist Stupidity!
Around here I see a lot of people selling DirecTV boxes. Am I wrong in thinking that you're renting those boxes, so why in the Hell would you sell them?
In some situations people have to buy the equipment up front to even get service. And in other instances you are kinda leasing-to-own the equipment. That is why you see some places with like three dishes on the porch.
Around here I see a lot of people selling DirecTV boxes. Am I wrong in thinking that you're renting those boxes, so why in the Hell would you sell them?
Well you can buy the boxes and own them, a lot of people do that to avoid contracts and there is a market for owner DirectTV and Dish receivers. Rented however can open a whole nasty can of worms. An auction I go to someone bought a DirectTV box that was rented without knowing it, he went home to activate it to his account and DirectTV transferred the $400+ outstanding bill to his account because it was tied to that box.

That is of course out of the norm, and he had to get a receipt from the auctioneer stating he bought it and was not the account holder of the past due bill. Imagine if that happened to someone on Craigslist who couldn't get a receipt.

Yeah, that makes sense then I suppose. I just remember when I signed it I never saw an option to buy the boxes and such.

I would be so bummed if that happened to me though. Especially if I had an active DirecTV account(which I do) with nothing outstanding.

Trading my 360 elite have had for years absolutely no problems, still in mint condition. Willing to trade for a SLIM ps3 (NO FAT BOY PS3s) or a motorized vehicle. Text me or call me any reasonable time at 262 748 2992 will have pictures to text.

I WILL BE PLUGGING IN THE SYSTEM TO MAKE SURE IT WORKS. ^^^^^^^^ If you cannot do that, don't even bother calling me.

Hmmm....by the logic of Craigslist, I should be able to swap my Extra Dreamcast, 4 controllers. several games and VMUs for a Mercedes.

I'd try, but someone would probably try to talk me down to a Chevy.

Seriously, someone expects a car for an Xbox..really? I know of swapping guns and guitars and such for games and systems, but a car....really?

notice that he said a "motorized vehicle" and not necessarily a car. try trading him a riding lawnmower and see what he says

Maybe he means one of these?

Power-Wheels-Barbie-Ford-Mustang-20120417224510.jpg

The guy wanting a motorized vehicle might've been talking about an RC car. Some of those things are pretty expensive.
Shit this ones close to me might hit it up just for the legs lol
That's how CAGs get raped.

Some guy posted a ton of crap from an old 4x4 to a fake fur coat and everything in between including a "Nintendo 64 entertainment system with 8 games" picture is a SNES in a box full of cables. I emailed to ask which games and around how much he wanted. He replied saying was asking $300 but had lowered to $200 firm. Must include some very rare/valuable games right? The games were 2 copies of Super Mario World, Donkey Kong Country, Street Fighter 2, John Madden Football, MLB PA baseball, PGA Golf Tour, and Monopoly. Didn't even bother responding though "the wife" emailed saying the $200 was negotiable lol

Just one of the countless ads from LA/SoCal that qualifies for this topic, as usual. $40 for cart only Pokemon Blue. Note the condition of the cart. $35 for a fucking GBC. Or save $5 buying both together :whee:

IDK maybe this is a good deal for someone who likes fish tanks and fish. I just find it funny the things people will come up with to trade. It's like what are the odds that someone is going to want this in exchange for a PS3 or 360?

I agree, I wouldn't make the trade for the fish tank.

In reality, if it's all in good shape, could be $100. Brand new is in the $300 range. We used to sell Koi out of our pond for $10-$50, depending on size, all day every day. So maybe not a completely horrid deal.

Trying to get out of town as soon as you hock your stolen goods huh?

Seriously, trading a fish tank for a console isn't all that weird. It's also actually not a bad trade; some of those tanks are very expensive. The only issue is that he can't expect so many takers because he's narrowed down his want list too much.

Yet another person that wants eBay prices on CL..... Hate that sh!t.
Eh.. it doesnt hurt to try. A few weeks back I sold something $10 above amazon / ebay prices on craigslist. Though It was a board game with a LOT of pieces, over 200 and it was complete. They probably felt safer buying it in person and double checking everything was there. Same thing for video games, buying it in person they can see if there is any damage to the cart that might of not been mentioned in the ebay ad.

I notice people are extremely lazy, or maybe it's that they are hiding the details. Most people selling have generic 6 word descriptions.

Actually not a bad deal. That size fish tank probably costs at least the same amount as a ps3 maybe even more.

Why do people say stuff like "price is $300 but I'd take $250"? if you're going to say you'll take $250, why even bother saying the price is $300? And if you say you'll take $250, everyone going to offer around $200.

Yeah. It definitely does not hurt to try asking for a higher price. Like you said, at least with CL people can check out what they're buying instead of waiting till it ships and arrives at their house to be able to check it with eBay/Amazon.

As for the ads, I always try to describe what I'm selling since I don't have a digital camera to be able to snap pics of the items with as of yet. That's like the one super cheap deal that has always eluded me.

Around here it doesn't matter if I put the word FIRM in giant flashing letters as people will always offer what they wanna offer. Most times I don't even bother replying to their responses if I feel they're being ridiculous on their price. I put OBO in my last 2-3 ads and due to spammers posting fake ads and idiots reposting their ad from the prior hour/day my stuff got buried within an hour.

i thought you are also member of slickdeals, they have deals for camera from time to time. or you just get one of those cheap cameras from bestbuy with your bb trade in credit, LOL

If you are firm on price for something, put it on ebay with a buy it now. Craigslist is all about haggling, imo at least. Ive only paid asking price for something on CL maybe 2-3 times in my life and ive been using it for so many years.

Oh I most certainly am a member of SD as well as CAG. But the thing is my price for a camera is $50 or under. Best Buy is retail MSRP hell, especially on stuff like cameras, PC's and stuff like that.:booty:

I hear that mentioned all the time, where people consider CL like a flea market of sorts. But most of my ads I'm not asking for MSRP or even close. Hell. I had a 60gb PS3 up there for $80 at one point console only cuz it's a fixer upper. I got tons of replies basically demanding I throw in a controller, wires AND games for that price.

People in my area are absolutely fuckin' ridiculous on CL. I've met exactly 3 reasonable people who actually understood that the price I was selling something at was still a deal without the need to lowball me to hell.

Gamecube, just a Gamecube. No games, connection wires, controllers, nothing. Just a Gamecube. $100.

This guy "El Jorge" is angry and he "rolls fenders". He is apparently the king of fender rolling, at least in the 909/951. I found his ads when looking for replies on all for sale ads (searching by owner ads title only for "re")...he had another one up that's been flagged down talking about "chinga tu madre" this and "puta bendejo pendejo pinche cabron" that, so I decided to look up his number. Seems like quite the jovial fellow.

The local authorities are always arresting people like that at the flea market. They'll burn movies and CD's, put them in cases with printed artwork, and sell them for $5 each (a friend of mine used to do it). I don't really care about piracy, but I find it completely baffling that people would actually pay as much money for this stuff as they do.

I point out at least a half dozen burned CD's/DVD's to the people at just about every thrift store around me when I go in looking for a deal. Sometimes they pull them off the shelf immediately and sometimes they just shrug their shoulders and gimme that 'I only work here I don't own the place' look as if I disturbed their daydream about whatever and made them work and use their brain for half a second.

The best was when I found what was likely someone's homemade porno in the case for the one Star Wars game under the discs.

Oh, people can steal to their hearts content as far as that kind of stuff. Movie studios and most big name musicians make more than enough money off of them already that I don't really feel bad.

I have a gas station near me, that very obviously (they don't even use full size cases for either) burns and distributes movies/cds, and it's hilarious. They had the new Ghost Rider for sale within a week of it coming out. I'm sure it's got people walking in front of the screen on it too.

I've seen them at comic book conventions too, trying to push out-of-print sci-fi series that they probably ripped off VHS tapes.
