FFX, Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger, Shining Force 2

I love Secret of Mana and Shining Force 2. Both games I must have beaten at least 5 times. The best thing about SoM was multiplayer and it allowed you to choose different types of weapons. The other SoM games restricted you to play as one type of fighter. I owned a Genesis so Shining Force 2 was the holy grail for me. I can never get sick of watching those animated fight scenes plus it had great character designs.

Fools with your not have Morrowind at the top. Too tired to actually use my mind at the moment, but this damn techno won't let me get any rest. I'll just go with Bioware/Bethesda/Black Isle RPG's, hell they'd mostly be from them anyways.

Final Fantasy II/IV (Super Nintendo/Playstation 1)
Chrono Trigger (Super Nintendo/Playstation 1)
Final Fantasy VI (Super Nintendo/Playstation 1)
Chrono Cross (Playstation 1)
Final Fantasy X (Playstation 2)
Shining Force/Shining Force: Ressurection of Dark Dragon (Genesis/Gameboy Advance)
Secret of Mana (Super Nintendo)
Soul Blazer (Super Nintendo)

for the most part I am an old school gamer, I need to play some games now :)
1. Earthbound
2. Chrono Trigger
3. Mario RPG

Nothing else even matters
If you threw FF VI and FFX on there I would agree. Maybe Paper Mario.

In ranked order:

1) Final Fantasy 6
2) Final Fantasy 7
3) Zelda OOT
4) Zelda Link to the Past
5) Xenogears
6) Chrono Trigger
7) Suikoden 2
8) FF Tactics
9) Suikoden 1
10) Lunar SS

Narrowing it down was harder then I thought... missing the cut were Mario RPG, Secret of Mana, Mario RPG, Illusion of Gaia, Grandia, Alundra.

Fallout
Chrono Trigger
Xenogears
KOTOR
Jade Empire

... And if Zelda games count, all except ALttP are great/excellent.

That's all I've really played, and Fallout is the only one I finished.
If you threw FF VI and FFX on there I would agree. Maybe Paper Mario.
Paper Mario is not that great of a game. It is redicuously easy and not that fun for an RPG. I have no clue about FFVI, which U.S. FF is that? I was thinking of FFX, but I would give FFIX the nod before I gave FFX a vote.

1. Star Ocean: Second Story
2. FFX
3. Mario RPG
4 FFIX
5 Wild Arms 3
6. Shadow Hearts
7. Final Fantasy 8
8 Secert of Mana
9. Crono Trigger
10 Earth Bound

what's so great about mario rpg? isnt it the same as paper mario but older? only one i played is paper mario for 64 and is was a great game, but not close to the top squaresoft games

those should definitely be on my list

It's not the same as Paper Mario. It is similar. You get a true party in SMRPG, and you're not paper figures. Square was also involved in the development of SMRPG.

10. Final Fantasy
9. Xenogears
8. Suikoden
7. Final Fantasy IV
6. Dragon Warrior
5. Lunar: SSSC
4. Final Fantasy Tactics
3. Final Fantasy IX
2. Chrono Trigger
1. Final Fantasy VI

It's so tough to make a list like this, and I'm sure if I sat down and did the same thing tomorrow, it would be different. There are dozens of games that I love, but don't consider RPGs (Alundra, A Link to the Past) or don't really view as A-titles (Wild ARMS, Super Mario RPG, Earthbound, Lufia, Golden Sun, etc.). Basically, if I finish it, I enjoy it. These are probably the only 10 RPGs I would be able to play through multiple times.
Unfortunately, only two RPGs from this generation have impressed me--Disgaea and Tales of Symphonia (although I have high hopes for Shadow Hearts: Covenant). They've gotten so flashy, and boring at the same time. Games like FFX, Xenosaga, Baten Kaitos, and Suikoden IV aren't much more than pretty faces--I want to actually care about the characters I'm supposed to spend 40-50 hours with, and nothing in the last 3 or 4 years has really done that for me. /rant

How many times have I done this... and how many times has it changed? Hell aside from FF6, I couldn't even rank my favorite Final Fantasy games from 1-10 consistantly.

1. Final Fantasy VI
2. Chrono Trigger
3. Dragon Warrior II
4. Earthbound
5. Secret of Mana
6. Dragon Warrior IV
7. Gladius
8. Final Fantasy IX
9. Final Fantasy X
10. Zelda - A Link to the Past

ask again tomorrow and I'm sure Final Fantasy IV, Chrono Cross, Crystalis, Dragon Warrior III and Shining Force II will be on the list.

1. Suikoden (PSX)
2. Earthbound (SNES)
3. Chrono Trigger (SNES)
4. Shining Force (Genesis)
5. Disgaea (PS2)
6. Shining Force 2 (Genesis)
7. Final Fantasy VI (SNES)
8. Suikoden II (PSX)
9. Wild ARMs (PSX)
10. Secret of Evermore (SNES)

1. FF7
2. FF6
3. Grandia 2
4. Chrono Trigger
5. Morrowind
6. Fallout 1
7. Fallout 2
8. Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain
9. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
10. Shenmue

Keep in mind, I'm no the most informed of RPGers as I've yet to play many a PS1 RPG, but...

1. FFX
2. Shadow Hearts: Covenant
3. Chrono Cross
4. Suikoden III
5. KOTOR II
6. FFIX
7. Kingdom Hearts
8. Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne
9. Fable
10. Xenosaga I

None of you guys like any of the Ultimas?? I don't think I've played enough RPGs to list 10, but I greatly prefer the PC ones over console ones I've played (most of which were on the PS1). I know this is in the PS2 section, but I haven't had a chance to really get into any of the PS2 ones :(

Fallout 1 & 2
Ultima IV-VII (except V), Savage Empire, Martian Dreams
Planescape: Torment
Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga
and if Strategy RPGs count, Fire Emblem

in no particular order...

Shadow Hearts
Shadow Hearts: Covenant
Chrono Trigger
Chrono Cross
Final Fantasy 6
Final Fantasy 7
Xenogears
Super Mario RPG
Secret of Mana
Final Fantasy X

Tecmo Secret of the Stars, everything else can suck it.

6. Final Fantasy VII - PS1
7. Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga - GBA
8. Neverwinter Nights - PC
9. Guardian's Crusade - PS1

I couldn't pick another RPG that deserved to finish out the list, but these are the best RPG's I've played and enjoyed. It should be much different than most lists here.
