Zombieland is the funniest movie of the year.

Or just about.

No spoilers here but the movie is hilarious. There is no comparison between Shaun of the Dead and Zombieland. Although people have been saying Zombieland is the american version of Shaun of the Dead, this couldn't be further from the truth.

Although both are played for laughs, Zombieland aims more for serious laughs ad humor where Shaun of the Dead had a light hearted absurd quality to it. Especially with the ending, Ed and the Playstation. Woody Harrelson is fantastic and awesome and easily going to be remembered for his badass role here.

I couldn't reccomend this film highly enough. Everybody check it out! Especially in a full theater of film lovers.

Okay one spoiler...

The cameo is GOLD.

The flick is currently sitting with a 90% rotten tomatoes score.

Rated R. There is a lot of gore but a lot of it is played for laughs. That is the key similarity between Zombieland and Shaun of the Dead. However the tone is of the two stories is quite different.

Actually on second thought. The only movie I might say is funnier would be The Hangover although I would prolly call it a tie.

Nah. Zombieland is funnier.

woody is good for quirky roles and the movie seems like its funny from beginning to end. does it seem like it was set up for a sequel?

Does it seem like it was set up for a sequel?

Well. There is the sense that there is plenty more material they could explore in a sequel, but no, the movie doesn't blatantly set up for a sequel.

The movie definitely has a sense of closure and you leave the theater feeling satisfied with what you've gotten.

Very satisfied.

so not funny at all?

Yeah, I thought the film was hilarious also. I don't know if I'd go so far as to say the funniest of the year, as I haven't really seen too many comedies this year, or even if I have, I can't remember them, but this film was great. I personally enjoyed it more than The Hangover (way way overrated really). I don't know why you're so quick to shoot the similarities between this film and Shaun of the Dead. I can definitely see it as an American version of the that type of film.

But what does it mean to be an American version? It makes it sound like its a Shaun of the Dead remake ala The Office and its not. They'd make a perfect double feature though and they compliment each other wonderfully.

On a side note - I love NYC crowds.

when it comes to that comparison i think its a compliment more than its a putdown. since both are comedies set during a zombie outbreak thats he comparison. or you could say they couldbe set in the same universebut on diff sides of the world. theres only been a small number of funny zombie flicks( that were good) sounds like this one will be number 3 ( after shaun of the dead and dead alive).crap actually make that 4 i thought cemetery man was funny too in a dark comedy kind of way.

Awesome! I might just have to watch this in theaters. The reviews this is getting reminds me of Slither, another horror comedy that got good views(that I really enjoyed).

Had passes to a screening last night, but filled up when I was about five spots away. Nice to hear good things about it. Looking forward to checking it out sometime next week.

This is much better than Slither.

been looking forward to this.. it felt like October was soo far away a month ago... now its cold as shit here in Michigan (Damn Canada air) and the movie is here.

Sweet. Glad to hear its widely liked.

I want to see this, but I'm pretty weary of any movie with Jesse Eisenberg in it after watching Adventureland. What a piece of shit movie that was. I'm hoping this movie is "funny" funny, not "Adventureland" funny. Because that had to have been one of the worst movies I've ever seen in my entire life.

And now I'm done talking crap about Adventureland.

Well, in addition to what you said, I think what lends the film to being referred as the "American Shaun of the Dead" is that it has a very American sensibility and comedic aspect to it. Shaun of the Dead is more the British dry wit and sense of humor, where as this one is a bit more the in your face variety, but with subtlety through out.

Also, how could you forget Return of the Living Dead? That's a great zombie comedic horror film, so I guess that makes it 5:D

the best thing about return was the naked chick in the graveyard but yeah it had its funny moments too ( send more cops) but i didnt see it as a comedy as a kid damn movie , like all zombie movies, were very disturbing. its a good film though too bad all the sequels were horrible. i read somewhere they guy who did that film had beef with george romero or something. now that i think about it dead snow is another zombie comedy so i guess theres more than i originally stated.

Agreed with everyone else, this is one of the best movies I've seen in a while. Even the gf liked it, and getting her to go to anything with zombies is a miracle in itself. By far one of the most entertaining movies all around.

Now I gotta go find a twinkie..

I saw it earlier. It was good. The chick with the bangs was smokin' hot. I wanted to see her tits.
She didn't show her tits :(

Yea, I went seeing it with pretty high expectations but I knew that they would not be met. But they were blown away. I friggen LOVE this movie! It is like the PERFECT zombie movie. Love, love, loved it! Want to see again.

I loved this movie. It was so entertaining and had some cliches but it was so good.
It was also great that the rules the kid had showed up in the world and "interacted". good touch

i wouldnt call it the best ever but its a damn good movie. one of the few films i could just sit back and enjoy and not be totally annoyed by things in it. so that makes 3 movies this year i was surprised by ( star trek , zombieland and gi joe). if it does well i could see them doing a sequel.

my only major gripe with the film is
those 2 chicks i get why the went to the amusement park but cmon youve survived zombies this long and you dont think hey al these lights and noises might attract them and on top of that the ride they decided to get on to get away from the zobies........very stupid). how could you possibly have survived that long thinking something like that would be a good idea?

btw for any of you who are zombie flick fans check out Deadgirl is diff but interesting.not for the squeamish.

Saw the movie. Loved the movie. Went and bought a box of twinkies after. Never had them before. They were good.

I have a craving for twinkies now.

Other forum said that there was something at the end of the credits, but i didn't get to see it. someone want to pm me and let me know what happens?

Little bit extended scene with that "celebrity cameo."

I Liked it alot. It felt more like Superbad with zombies somewhere in my head. Though homicidal Woody Harrelson is always badass.

^

post the link because i dunno where the line was from....trying to explain it to someone and the "last movie that didn't suck" thread wants the zombieland stinger in spoilertags.

edit: nvm i think i remember were it was from.

just saw the movie, and yes this movie is amazing. I put this up there in my top 3 with District 9 and Star Trek as the best I have seen so far this year. The cameo appearance is also awesome.
so not funny at all?
Saying that "The Hangover" is not funny is like saying that you don't like having sex (assuming that you are not asexual, or have not been sexually abused as a child).

Great movie but a little on the short side. I can't wait for it on Blu-Ray for the extra features, hopefully there is some good stuff in it.

I don't really care to see this at all but would probably check it out on dvd.

I'm a big fan of Shaun of the Dead and even though people say they arn't alike, it just turns me off to it anyway.

agreed i get the feeling there was more to the story overall but they decided take out extra stuff so the movie flowed. its definelty a flick id buy wonder if sony will have digital dls of it.
would have liked to see more of his rules as well as more gore.

Watched it too. I liked it. Wichita was hot in this movie. I watched it without seeing any trailer expecting a POS movie. I was wrong. Quick movie and good times. The end.

Just watched it. It's a good movie and had some funny parts, but I wouldn't call it hilarious, and I definitely wouldn't say it's the funniest movie of the year. The Hangover topped this by a long shot. Zombieland had some quirky characters and a good plot. I can even see the comedy in the movie. The problem is, the comedy just wasn't that funny. I found myself chuckling a lot more than laughing. It wasn't a bad movie, it just wasn't as funny as everybody says. Anyway, just my 2 cents.

The crowd you see it in makes a BIG difference. If you watch a movie with a crowd of people that just sit on their hands, most moviegoing experiences suck.
This is much better than Slither.
I really liked Zombieland but Slither is funnier hands down. Zombieland plays most of it's jokes safe whereas Slither goes for the obscure jokes.

Since I didn't go see Drag Me to Hell in theaters I'm patiently waiting until it comes to video next week.

Adventureland rocked. It is as good as any romantic comedies get. What were you expecting, Caddyshack?

This rule applies to funerals and public executions too, which is what going to see this film was like. It was an ok film but no where near as funny as Schindlers List.

Saw it last night with my girlfriend, We both Loved it. Definitely in the top 10 best movies this year in my book. First thing my gf said as we were leaving the theater "We are buying that movie on Blu-Ray as soon as it comes out"
