"ho"? Really? I'd like to think we're better than that
Yeah, some of the remarks are taking a turn for the dark. She's an attractive woman. She may/probably hammed it up a bit for the video. No biggie, whatever gets eyeballs to watch your sales pitch all the way through. No reason to start getting nasty though.
We could discuss whether or not misogyny in an ironic context truly constitutes a progressive act.

Allow me to don my tweed jacket first.

I do believe MIND LINK meant it ironically. But yes, let's talk about something else...

I'm subscribed to a feminist newsletter. I'm not subbed to a political correctness newsletter, however.

I wasn't referring to you.  I wasn't directly referring to anyone.  I was referring more to the way the general tone was moving.  Since I had posted one of the images (because I thought the hair shake thing was shampoo-commercial silly) I suppose I didn't want to be the catalyst for something more hostile.

Anyway, there's lots of great games out there for $15.  Go buy a sale copy of Tomb Raider or FC3 or something.  Don't let Legends of Dawn be where you drop your dollars.

In fact if you're looking for a totally-excellent indie action RPG, look no further than The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing which is also $14.99. Top notch voice acting - a cool story, lots of stuff to do, and a massive skill tree.

That's not even in contention.

The second best emoticon on the market? Why it's none other than the vibrator emoticon.

Just put in some time on Rocksmith.  I'm pleased with it so far.  My main gripe with the PS3 version was the interminable load times, which seem to basically be eliminated in the PC version.  It was always a good product otherwise.  Windows is a little fussy about detecting the Realtone cable; I had to plug it in a couple times, but eventually it worked.  I'm looking forward to hopefully sticking with this game long enough to learn something this time.  It's still on sale for the next 45 minutes, so I'd recommend picking it up if you're interested.

Man, my fingertips are sore now though...

I guess my problem with this being on sale on Steam is two-fold. First, I do not have a guitar nor the required cable to play. Amazon usually has Rocksmith for $39.99 and includes the cable (and registers on Steam). The cable by itself is $29.99, so the only real savings I get from buying it on sale is about $2.50.

Secondly, Rocksmith 2014 is coming out in 3 months with a long list of improvements and new songs.

The deal on Steam currently is great for people that have the cable already from another system.

GetGames is running a few sales this weekend.  Amongst the highlights:

Tomb Raider sale -- new Tomb Raider is 66% off at $16.99 and activates on Steam.

Civilization sale -- Civ 4 and 5 are 75% off and activate on Steam.

Batman sale -- Arkham City GOTY is $7.49 and activates on Steam.

Anno sale -- Highlight is Anno 1404: Gold at $4.99.  Not Steam, but still interesting.

I know that the Anno games aren't on Steam anymore -- with 1404, does anyone know (1) if this activates on Uplay? (2) if the Tages DRM has been patched out for the digital version? (3) if this is the same as Dawn of Discovery -- i.e. will this work just fine in the USA?

Yeah, it was definitely kind of a niche deal. But a great one for people like me! I've been waiting for this price since it came out on Steam.

The phrase "a beautiful ho" makes me laugh, that's pretty funny. The contrast between the compliment and the insult I guess.

So after reading up a bit more on Magic 2014, I'm somewhat pissed off about the sealed deck play (something I was genuinely looking forward to).  They give you two slots in which to create sealed decks, but sealed decks cannot be deleted!

Magic 2014 also uses Steamcloud file save syncing, so even removing Magic 2014 won't help there.  Some users report being able to delete their save games manually, only to find that the game gives them the exact same booster packs you got previously, which somewhat negates the fun of deleting your save file and starting again.

Of course, if you want to have a 3rd (or 20th - but not 21st) playthrough of the sealed deck campaign, you have to purchase slots for $2 each.

Massive letdown of the day.

EDIT: To clarify, I'm not saying you should be able to delete and re-roll your sealed deck whenever you want (as that would take out a good chunk of the fun in it) but I would really like it if once you complete the campaign with that deck if you were given the option of deleting that save and starting a new sealed deck campaign - without having to buy one.

Wow, that is truly awful. Maybe at this point I just give up on these yearly releases. I never did end up picking up last year's, and didn't miss it that much. I didn't like 2012 as much as 2011. I understand the need to not infringe too much on their physical/Magic: Online market, but give us a complete game at least. Geez.

Thanks for the heads up.

Magic 2014 happened.
Pretty much a deal breaker. Sealed decks were as close to booster draft as I've seen so far (even though the two are different) - which again in my opinion is really the only way to play Magic. Give me a damn Magic game I can play online with friends with Booster draft play, and not buying actual boosters are something stupid like that, and I'll give you $60, and $15 every time an xpac comes out. Ok well not really I'd wait for 75% but still how freaking hard is this.

From what I understand, the sealed deck play uses the same decks for single and multi-player online gameplay. So I could see where they would want to lock this down to prevent people from constantly making new sealed decks and playing online when they made a good one or had really good luck.

I don't plan to do any online multi-player (see grumpy cat meme a few pages back) so not being able to play through the campaign more than twice without paying extra is really a turn off for me.

This. Honestly, I would pay $60 for a game like this and $15-$20 for new expansion packs and be happy paying full price. For added benefit - make the cards in your collection tradeable (not sellable) on the Steam Marketplace.

Something tells me they don't want to capitalize on Magic too much: as doing this would obviously put a pretty good dent in their physical or MTGO sales.

The problem is that Hasbro bought WOTC.  Ever since then shit's been downhill.  They never understood the market for Magic or D&D.  The average Magic/D&D player makes around $80k/year - they don't have to worry about cannibalization - at all.  I have some good friends who are high up at WOTC and Pathfinder as well who undoubtedly confirm the issue with both systems is entirely Hasbro.

Yeah with the above system then the cards you get, you get based off play, and you can still have rare cards through trade or just time played.   Or you get that rare White, and trade it for a bunch of awesome greens.   No BS of buying digital versions of cards - earn them over time, make your deck if you want to play that way, boom done.

Would be a Valve-level troll if the Summer Sale started on a Saturday.  Especially since this would overlap both their weekend deals and week long deals.

Sweet! I actually have a few of these from indie bundles. I wonder if the entire Cognition series will be Greenlit or if it's only the first episode. I'd assume the former, but with Steam, you never know...

how long does it usually take for games that have been greenlit to get added to steam? I have the first two episodes of Cognition from an IGS bundle and I was about to start playing them soon but I rather download/play them on steam.

You need to get steam keys provided to you from the outlet you have it from... this takes days/weeks/never.

It depends on the developer and the particular game. Some have been as quick as a couple of weeks - others from the very first batch (Sept 11, 2012) still aren't on Steam.

Posted this in the Groupees thread, but in case anyone is torn on grabbing that (build a) bundle and wants to know about Zafehouse Diaries...

Played a game of Zafehouse last night. First impressions time!

Not your average zombie game. There is no action in this. The entire game takes place in the diary. Your screens consist of the diary (which chronicles exactly what happens as it happens), a page where you have key items (notes you receive key to your rescue and a walkie talkie, you have to find these through gameplay), and a map screen. The map screen is your hub for everything, it has your characters (which you can inspect, view their histories and strengths, and even start rumors about), location info (how many zombies are in any given area, how many corpses are there, how much you've explored it, how secure it is, etc). All of your actual actions (planning) in the game take place on the map screen.

So what does the gameplay consist of? Basically, you're telling each character of your team to take care of certain things. You can make traps (which kill zombies if they breach the place you create the trap), barricade the location (this is vital to keep zombies out), watch for zombies (also vital, especially if the area isn't secure), patrol for zombies, make food, snipe, upgrade items, etc. This game is pretty damn complex. It's nice having a full team, because you can take care of lots of different things. Two people can barricade while one snipes (only if you have an applicable weapon), another can clean up corpses (you'll quickly discover why this is important), another can upgrade something, etc. It's all a delicate balance, and you really have to use your head, and naturally certain people will be better at certain actions than others. People WILL die, unless you're really smart.

Basically, you tell each person to do something, then you go back to the diary screen and click the watch. Time will progress an hour, and the diary will be updated telling you what happened in the past hour. A lot of actions (like barricading, upgrading, etc) will not happen in an hour, so they won't always provide immediate diary entries, while others like exploring new areas will happen immediately (unless the area is far away and requires travel to get to). About exploring, you can send one or more people to a location, via "investigation", "assault", or "breach". Investigation simply scouts the area, and the character determines if there's anything of use in the building and how many zombies are inside and outside. Assault, the character/s attempt to kill the zombies outside. Breach is more complicated, where the character/s go inside and are stuck in the breach action until all zombies inside are dead. All the while, zombies WILL attack from outside as well, so the moment the inside is cleared out, you're put into a perilous barricade defense situation. This is when people die. Whenever you're moving to a new area, you choose what weapons and gear you want to bring with you. Obviously for breaches, you should bring a lot of weapons and ammo.

Anyways, the game progresses and as you go, you're supposed to breach and discover clues as to your rescue from key places marked on the map. It's hard. My first game, I lasted till the rescue came (I even had the radio), but I didn't know the rescue frequency or the rescue point, so my lone remaining character was left behind. Game over. All the while I wasn't able to investigate the FIRST area that I was supposed to. It had 20 zombies inside, and I was never in a good enough way to take on that many enemies. Maybe I'll do better next time, but this is a strategy game plain and simple. It takes a lot of careful thinking.

Another couple things I should mention... Character dynamics are important. Characters have different personalities, like some older ones won't trust young people, some people are racist, some people simply don't like certain people. It's not smart to put people who don't like each other on the same objectives, they'll argue, it'll get on other peoples' nerves, and they'll even get into fights and hurt each other. This game is brutal, lol. Injuries matter, too. Productivity goes down when a character is injured, and most injuries... don't go away. You can find medical supplies in some places, but good medical supplies are scarce. Not to mention breaching someplace with supplies means you may get injuries taking over the area...

All in all, cool game. I'm glad I grabbed it. It's hard, but there's a high learning curve to it. 8 out of 10 I guess? It's hard to say without playing it more.
