Percy Harvin has to have hip surgery and will be out for about 3-4 months.

Pro Bowl teams will be determined by a draft by alumni captions Deion Sanders and Jerry Rice. Fans still decide who goes to the Pro Bowl in the pool of available players, but the teams are decided by the captains. They're also making some rule changes:

  • The ball changes sides after the end of each quarter.
  • There are no more kickoffs, as teams will just start on their 25 yard line. That means that return specialists won't make the Pro Bowl any more.
  • Defenses can use Cover 2 and Press along with Man coverage.
  • They're also making tweaks to the clock and other things to make it a faster game.
 
I know already what will happen. Ratings will be higher than all other sports' All-Star games combined but media and fans will complain about how boring and uninspired the game is.

Oh, and half the players will suddenly get chronic injuries and pull out of the game.

The new #1 WR in Philly, Riley Cooper, is in some hot water after using a racial slur at a Kenny Chesney concert. He's not going to be suspended by the league, but he's been fined by the team and they're seeking outside help for him. It hasn't been a great off-season for Eagles receivers.

 
The uproar over this Riley Cooper "situation" is absurd. He was drunk and at a concert. Why do people care what he said? I am betting that "beating up every n****" was only the 2nd or 3rd dumbest thing that came out of his mouth that night.

 
Being drunk doesn't excuse you from having to take the flack for saying extremely terrible things. That's not something anybody should be saying, let alone a professional football player who is supposed to be able to handle themselves in a professional manner while out in public. If he said even worse things that were caught on video, he would still be in just as much trouble for showing extremely poor judgment.

I never said it was the end of the world, but that's a terrible thing to say. I'd have thought that nobody would defend it, but I guess I don't have to worry about that anymore.

People aren't defending it, they just don't think it's worthy of being one of the top sports stories of the past 2 days. Especially when football diehards are the only ones who have heard of the guy.
 
His brother puts it perfectly that he's an immature idiot. His college career is a perfect example of why he never went anywhere with the talent he had.

I can agree with that, but that wasn't really what he said in response to the news. With nothing happening during training camps outside of injuries, this is the biggest piece of NFL news right now until the Hall of Fame stuff starts this weekend.

Honestly, it shouldnt be newsworthy. However, I barely heard any sports talk in the past few weeks that has been.I swear to god between A-Rod bullcrap, biogenesis in general, Johnny Manziel, and Hernandez just to name a few I'm going Friggin nuts listening to all this crap.

Having said that, do I feel like it was an irresponsible comment to make? Of course I do. Do I think the dude needs to be scrutinized any further? No, he apologized and owned up to it in what sounded like an actual thoughtful and sincere apology.
 
Chris Culliver out for the season.

He's had nothing but terrible things happen since his anti-gay remarks. Got torched in the Super Bowl and now won't play this year.

His demolition in the Bowl aside, he's been one of the best Nickel corners in the league since his rookie year. He even shut down Megatron in the game Harbaugh went crazy on Schwartz' back.

Nmamdi has to step up big time.
 
I wonder if the Hall of Fame ceremony will be streamed online? They've been streaming events on nfl.com occasionally.
 
Anybody watching the HOF game tomorrow? It's Cowboys/Dolphins. Romo has already said that he doesn't think he's going to play.

That's really disappointing about Culliver's injury. Two key guys already out with significant injuries (Crabtree).

Tramaine Brock is serviceable but up to this point, Culliver was a big improvement for our pass coverage units.

The big key will be the health of the front 7. When the Smith bros got hurt, the whole pass defense fell apart. Hopefully Justin still has another year left in the tank. He can be dominating when healthy but he's up there in age now.

They are deep at every position other than LB and WR. This year if Justin Smith gets hurt I feel better about it. They have Nnamdi and Eric Wright now. Brock shouldn't even see the field.
 
Chris Johnson's problem is does he care to play hard that day. He could have been better than he was the last two years even with the O-line issues. The good news is a better O-line will probably give him reason to try harder.

I thought Weeden looked pretty good last night Frisky.

There's a good set of games tonight. Looking forward to seeing how the Texans play. And it should be fun to watch Patriots/Eagles and Chiefs/Saints.

On a side note, Plaxico Burress is likely out for the season for the Steelers with a torn rotator cuff he suffered in practice.

Was really great to see Brian Banks get to put on an NFL uniform and play the game he loves. Here is a man who had every reason to just give up on life and turn to drugs/alcohol/etc., but he picked up the pieces and still chased his dream, despite being derailed for a decade by an utter piece of trash.

A lot of that is media spin from 2011. CJ rushed for 1200 yards last season with a very beat up offensive line (by the end of the season, they only had one starter left). I don't doubt he'll be more motivated with a more capable line...but saying he doesn't care is a bit misguided.

All these fucking technical difficulties in the Texans/Vikings game are driving me insane!!! This is a joke! They were just bragging about how nice the weather was in MN and I know the weather here in Houston is fine (other than the obscene heat, which is sadly normal). So what's the problem? I'm now staring at my TV, and for the last 5 minutes it's been nothing but a technical difficulties sign and radio quality audio. fuckin' A!!!

He had games where he had 14 yards last year. People (fantasy experts paid to just watch video) I trust who watched all his carries say it's a question of him trying or not.

He even spoke out about how he can't do anything if the O-line can't. I believe what I'm reading.

He's still a huge talent and hasn't lost it. His speed is obviously still there.

Uh oh. Tom Brady left practice today with an injury to his left leg. According to Yahoo, "Brady was not hit while throwing a pass that fell incomplete, but ended up on the ground holding his leg". Make way for Tebow.

I saw the same story on NFL.com but they had it going a little differently:

"Greg Bedard of TheMMQB.com watched Brady grab his left knee, limp off, before briefly returning to the field. Brady reportedly did not look comfortable and then had the knee checked out by trainers. Ben Volin of the Boston Globe watched a fan video that shows left tackle Nate Solder getting pushed back into Brady's knee."
