Browns have no starting running back and are also playing a backup QB this week. Why did I drop the Vikings defense in my fantasy league?

 
As the resident expert on Cleveland Browns misery, I'd like to say goodbye Trent Richardson you won't be missed.  You can't even make this stuff up.  Season ticket BOGO for any cheapasses interested. ;)

 
While he wasn't beloved, I thought he was liked by fans.

That I don't know. For me though I just think it's an okay move based on his production so far, but it's concerning to see them giving up on the season already. I like getting rid of players that aren't performing/don't fit the system, but at the same time I think it's just business as usual. I don't think he'll be replaced with anyone better. I guess we'll see in the first round next year.

 
Looking at the details, I figured there would be a conditional 6th round pick or something, but nope. A straight 1-for-1 trade.

There's not much he could do when the offensive line falls apart due to Oniel Cousins' terrible play. They need either one of their young guards back ASAP for their offense to have a chance to bounce back.

It's crazy that their grand plan to use Dion Lewis to give Trent a break as a change-of-pace back falls apart with his injury and they abandon the whole plan. They never even played Bobby Rainey from what I recall, so I have no clue what their plan was with the running game after the big injury.

Trent's my cousin, whom I literally live right up the street from. Imagine my shock to find out first from here and a message on Facebook.

And from what I saw in my few months of living here, people loved the guy. See his jersey everywhere and people always asking for pictures with him while hes out.

I agree to an extent, but how much can you excuse bad play because of another player's bad play. Now Richardson hasn't been outright awful, but his inability to hit the holes (as small as they were) and dancing instead of running vertical was starting to make him look like a bust. Maybe he'll be okay in Indy, but I'm thinking he'll be average at best. And I'd rather have a first round pick than average. Well in theory I'd rather have a first round pick, we'll see if these guys waste it or not.

I hope he does really well so Browns fans stop having such kneejerk reactions to anything that happens.

 
Somebody on ESPN's comment board had a pretty funny remark. Said the Browns are dumping salary to bring Lebron back.

I hope he does well too, but whether he does or doesn't I don't think it has a lot to do with kneejerk reactions. Though if anything I think the negative reactions towards the organization are more kneejerk than any reaction towards Trent. But whether it's bad draft moves or bad players the problem is this seems like the same old thing with the Browns.

Totally have no idea who got the better of this trade.. But knowing 49ers got Boldin for a 6th rounder, the Browns probably got the better end of this deal.

If the Browns have good personnel people, they know what they are doing and this isn't a huge loss. If they don't. Oh boy.
 
In the Browns history since they've come back to the league, I don't see any indication of having a competent personnel department. They get lucky every now and then but overall, terrible.

But those staffs change every 2-3 years. I don't follow them enough to know the current staff and when they came on.

With the new owner, the front office got a complete makeover this off-season. They've had all off-season to evaluate the players and figure out who fit their new defensive and offensive schemes, but it apparently took them a few months to decide on Trent Richardson.

I don't believe for one second that they made the move because he didn't fit their offensive system, as they would've moved him months ago if that were true since Chud and Norv Turner have a good idea of what they like in RBs for their system. They're basically doing something similar with Weeden as they promoted third-string QB Brian Hoyer to the starting spot while Weeden is "week-to-week" with his thumb injury. If he doesn't play again, I won't be surprised.

I'd have more respect for the Mike Lombardi and Joe Banner if they moved these guys during the off-season, not with the slapdash manner that they've handled the situation after the season started. They had a big QB competition between Jason Campbell and Weeden during training camp despite most people knowing that Weeden would have to play really badly to lose the starting spot, but apparently Jason was just the 2nd-string QB in name only since they've given Hoyer the starting spot instead.

I hope Brian Hoyer pulls a Kyle Orton and finds a way to win despite the offense not really being set-up for success at the moment. The defense is quite good, so he'd just have to do enough to not lose the game.

It's crazy that Indy has a promising second-year player at every offensive position.

 
More Browns fans misery. A very scientific poll was taken on the trade.

Four states said that it would return the team to its glory years of 1996-1998. Nine states don't believe they did. Six states said that his toughness and versatility were not good fits for the Browns offense. Seven states wondered why we should question the wisdom of the Browns front office. Eight states said they should have thrown in Weeden to even things out. Seven states complimented the Browns willingness to help other teams. Nine states said they would be fine since they have Bobby Rainey.

Frisky I'm a 49er fan, I know all about these front-office shake ups. When Baalke and Harbaugh came in and they let all our "best players" walk I didn't know what the hell was going on. Turns out, they evaluated these guys and they weren't any good for the money they were making. Not ONE player the regime has let go has turned out to be a loss, nor a good signing by the team that eventually signed them.

All you can hope for is your current new staff can do the same.

As far as Richardson, they probably realized they need one of the QBs coming out this year as you don't build teams around RBs. They probably tried to trade him in the offseason but couldn't get a first-round pick. (Why would they? Revis is the best defensive player period and the Jets got a first-round pick).

Colts got desperate and offered theirs. Honestly, it's a win-win now for these teams. Colts get a player better than the pick they surrendered and that team is set and needs weapons. The Browns need picks and have tons of holes to fill and need ammunition to get that prize-QB. Losing more games this season to do that also doesn't hurt.

Look around at the league. Fans may be crying you are "punting this season" but if you don't have a QB, a real one (not Wheedon or guys like him that aren't terrible and can fill in ok) a real franchise guy, you are punting EVERY season.

That's just the NFL today.

This is exactly right. If you don't have a franchise QB you are rebuilding until you do. I'm a Giants fan and with Eli I honestly feel like we have a chance to win every single game every single week. It is awesome and I hope the Browns get there some day.

Absolutely. Every once in a while you'll get a team that wins with just a game manager QB and a great defense, but that takes a tremendous amount of luck too. But when you see teams like the Buffalo Bills just wallow in complete failure (haven't had a real QB since freaking Jim Kelly) versus a team like the Colts, who are primed for their second run of dominance within that timespan by replacing one franchise QB with another, it just shows you how important that QB is and how completely unqualified some front offices are at evaluating talent.

Honestly, Buffalo will be lucky as hell if Manuel turns out to be a lasting QB considering how many QBs went before him in the draft. Every non-playoff regular team is searching for a QB they can count on for the next 10 years. My Titans are doing the same thing...and I hope Locker can be that guy (especially when you consider they were banking on Vince Young just a few short years ago). But the clock is definitely ticking on him...and while he's talented, I'm not sure if he can't get over that hump and reach the next level of being a dominant NFL QB.

You're right. I was thinking of a couple QBs from the 2012 draft. I think the actual point to be made is a QB taken that low in the 1st round, since this wasn't a QB heavy draft. I still think Buffalo will be lucky if it works out considering QBs from other years taken much higher who have been busts. There, now I think I've got it straight, lol.

 
Aldon Smith was arrested for suspicion of DUI this morning after crashing his car into a tree.

If convicted, this will be his second DUI while in the league. But even without a conviction, the NFL will most likely investigate and can suspend him for multiple violations of the code of conduct.

He should get a game suspension at some point. The bigger issue is he needs to get his life straight. Hall of Famer talent. Needs to focus.
 
Why do half the Ravens games get Dan Dierdorf? Why can't we get Ian Eagle and Solomon Wilcotts? Put Dierdorf on the Browns/Vikings or Jags/Seahawks game.
 
Holy shit. This is why Josh Gordon was so sorely missed on this offense after the first two weeks of futility. I hope he learned his lesson since most of the blame falls on him.

 
And if he does well enough, he may be lucky and get traded too!

Man, the Ravens offense might be worse than the 2000 team. They have as twice as many penalty yards as yards gained.
 
Kinda weird there. Texans apparently committed a holding penalty but there was no announcement. Not complaining, mind you.
 
As awful as Dierdorf is, he did call Doss' return.

Speaking of which, Doss has more return yards than the entire Ravens offense.

Meanwhile, both teams avoided penalties for 5 minutes, so that is progress.
 
Good God...the Titans just committed 10 penalties...in the first half. Holding, pass interference, illegal block, rinse, repeat. The Chargers have had a couple, but the announcers did point out a couple pass interferences they got away with. I'm a supporter of forcing people to play by the rules...but unless you're literally going to call everything, you've gotta let them play at some point too.

Ravens and Texans combined for 15 in the first half. Thankfully, things got better in the 2nd half. So far there have been 22 penalties for almost 200 yards.
