Nintendo 3DS - General Discussion Thread

I can tell you the relays around me work great. I used to only get Tags from the Target/TRU demo unit and the occasional worker at BestBuy/GameStop/Target. Now, I get 7-8 Tags a day quite easily.

Anyone know if they charge tax for Eshop purchases?

Current plan is to buy a 3DS, and 2 $20 cards for Pokemon, instead of going out Saturday morning for it. Would I be ok with two cards or should I grab a $50 for the extra $$$.

I guess if you want to get streetpass hits just hang out somewhere where there is a lot of kids, although McDs is pretty much the ultimate kids restaurant here.
Unfortunately, we don't have anything like that around here aside from the school...and spending all day waiting outside of the school probably isn't a good idea. And it doesn't help that this is a very poor community and many of the people can't afford to drive into the city, especially to go shopping for electronics. Most people don't even own a computer. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if I'm the only person here who has a 3DS and the person at McDonald's was just a tourist.

Change the state on your system to a state with no sale tax to avoid paying it.

Depending on the location Nintendo thinks you are (there are 6 states that do not charge sales tax), yes, you will be charged tax.

Ahh thanks for the heads up. What states would those be? Very sure GA (my state) charges for digital purchases.

What would I search for in google, digital purchase state tax, or video game state tax?

I live in a poor community too with at least 70% on welfare, however people here seem to have everything especially when it comes to electronics, yeah I am the person who stood behind the family with 3 iPhones one for each kid and paid in food stamps when at the grocery store. We do have tourists here but a lot of the hits I am getting are from people in my state so that is not always the case. It's obvious that the kids are hanging out in McDs and playing 3DS. Schools are not a good place for hits and you shouldn't be on school grounds unless you have business there, all the schools here don't allow any kind of electronics in the school and they have metal detectors at the entrances.

I don't think anyone was criticizing the part about kids at McD's. I think I just made a joke that it might be taken as "creepy" if you suddenly start stalking all the children's hangouts.

Anyplace there's a lot of people and free wifi is good for a Streetpass attempt, especially if there's a Nintendo Zone attached.

I've been getting a very slow, but consistent, trickle of Street Passes lately with one here and there from occasional tourists that I've come close to.

I must be in an area where hardly anybody brings there's out, haven't had any luck in getting any (Although not too surprising where I am at).

But there is a chance that my 3DS is the only gaming platform I pick up this month with Rune Factory 4, the new Etrian Oddysey, Pokemon, and then Hometown Story all coming out in a small time frame.

The new Streetpass Relay (Up to 6 hits per Relay pass) appears to be live. For those of you doing HomePass, the Prime Macs seem to be working with the new 6 hit feature. I cannot be bothered to test it myself at the moment.

Game Data seems to be less frequent, however. May or may not be related.

EO is just a remake really.  Rune Factory has caused me to put away GTA5... and with Pokemon this weekend, I've essentially ignored all other platforms for the month.

I have a quick question about the 3DS. Is there any way to transfer the data of one SD card to another. Like seriously just copy everything?

Reason being is I wanna upgrade my SD card (I have the original 2 GB that came with the system) so I can use that $30 credit I got from SMT and FE but I wanna keep what I have on the card.

Also is there any online retailers that sell 3DS eShop point codes or retail stores I can grab cards from?

Thanks

So essentially once I buy Pokemon from the e-shop I will have spent $100 + tax for FE, SMT IV and Pokemon X. Three of the best RPG's of the year for only $100. Hell of a deal.

There is a Transfer tool on the eShop that transfers from 1 3DS to another.

However, you can simply do a standard Copy/Paste on a PC as well. I did that with my SD Cards.

Just copied and pasted everything, worked great! It's like nothing changed.

Also I found an eShop card at gamestop, got Picross e with it. Now to wait for pokemon. Usually I would never buy digital but I got credit from buying SMT and FE.

I just got a shitload of hits at ComicCon yesterday.  They really need to up the limit from 10.  I'd clear people out and I'd get an alert that 10 more people were at the gate.  I could have sat there all day.

Yea, it gets annoying real fast. Before, once I completed all the Puzzles and Find Mii, I could just hold down R and cycle through pretty quick. Not so with all the games.

BTW, has anyone gotten all the tickets in Mii Force?

I think the limit isn't an arbitrary choice to encourage users not to build up a bunch at a time, rather I think its a hardware limitation of how much memory is available in sleep mode.

That would be unfortunate. Even upping it to 20 would make a huge difference.

When they introduced the Mii Plaza games, they added 4 new puzzles: Starlets, Xenoblade, New Super Mario Bros. U and Skyward Sword. Mario & Luigi was added 1-2 weeks after they came out in North America.

Monster Hunter 4 is getting a new LE 3DS bundle post-launch. And you read right, it's a 3DS, not an XL.

I like it. never a fan of the more tribal look of previous MH editions but this design looks pretty good.

I like the 3DS, looks sleek.  While the roundness of XL works for some design, the more angular cut on the 3DS is just "cooler".

I think I may have some how updated as I saw a notification about replay stations.  Is there a way to tell if my 3ds is in fact updated to get streetpass via relay?  I would like to remove it if possible.

You can't remove updates yet.

You can tell your current firmware in System Settings.

I got a StreetPass today from somebody that I could tell bought their 3DS for Pokemon Y since that was their last game and they only had one puzzle piece, which I luckily didn't have yet.

How bad is the pixelation on the 3DS XL? I've looked around for comparison, but haven't had much luck. I'm used to my retina Macbook Pro and high pixel density phones, so I don't know if I can deal with it on the XL.

It's honestly pretty bad. It doesn't bother me much, but if you're one of those tech sticklers it may bother the crap outta you.

Thanks. I'm usually not that bad, but I've found that after we got retina macbook pros I've become a bit of a screen snob :/

The standard 3DS looks pretty sharp though? I'll have to drive around this weekend and see if I can find demo units of both.

It isn't that bad, IMO, and I am a snob about it too. I had the regular DS and upgraded - it bothered me at first but I honestly don't give it a second thought now. The graphics in most games aren't super detailed for the most part so it's fine. I think the bigger size trumps the slightly lesser PQ.

I sacrificed a couple of pixels for the awesomeness of the larger screens.  Yes, some games are more noticeable than others.  But not having to squint makes it so much better.  I DO miss the better speakers on the regular 3DS.  These just don't have the oomph.  Would I be able to give back my XL?  No.  I quite like it.  My hands don't cramp anymore.  The screen's much bigger.  I like.
