Xbox One Console Thread (Console is currently in stock as of 12/3 at Amazon)

Why is the UI slightly bigger on Xbox One and why are they in a different spot? That seems kinda weird to me, but yeah looking at all the comparisons there are pictures you can find that make both look better, all that matters is that both systems will get a good looking game and that it will be enjoyable to play no matter where you buy it.
It's because the Xbox One is running in 720p, when you drop the resolution it actually makes the UI larger.

I'll chose how I spend my money, it's really none of your concern. People in the Xbox One Pre-order Thread do not want your comments or concern on a product we wan't to buy. Please leave us be so we can continue to discuss why we are excited for our chosen console and help others find Pre-orders who have likewise dispositions.

If something like extreme graphics and higher res was the soul reason I was buying a console, then I wouldn't be buying a console since my PC can already out do both and its not even near top of the line anymore.
Nowhere did I tell you how to spend your money. All I did was post a screenshot showing the discrepancy in power between the 2 systems and gave my opinion on what I saw in the picture and why I think the $100 difference isn't justified. If these things don't bother you and/or you don't like my opinion you can simply ignore it, spend your money just as you would have had I never posted, and live with your purchase. It really is that simple.

The argument is price per performance, not who has the best resolution and you're not going to get a PC that can outperform a PS4 for $400, so your deflection is moot.

Huh, I guess I've never really paid attention to that kind of stuff, had no idea the resolution affected the UI like that, not something I normally pay attention to, it just stood out somewhat in those comparison shots to me.

Well think about it, when you change the resolution on your PC your UI gets bigger and smaller. Same idea really.

Yeah, it makes perfect sense to me when I thought about it. It's just never really specifically stuck out to me before, I don't really switch resolutions or compare a lot though, kinda sad since I've been gaming for a real long time and went to school for IT stuff and that's never really clicked before, but I guess it's just one of those things!

Excluding the Monitor, the Keyboard, and Mouse I manged to put together a build right off of Newegg that comes in at $486.93 that would easily out perform both consoles right out of the box without even applying a overclock.

AMD 6 core CPU

8gb DDR3 1600mhz ram

Radeon HD 7850

Any ol cheapo mobo

500gb hard drive thats faster than the one in either console

500watt PSU

dvd drive

Throw in partnership deals, coding to the metal and all the other nice console things and before you know it you could easily have this machine for $400 bones and performs better...hell maybe even throw a nice blu ray drive in there.

Oh, and if you buy the 7850, you get 2 free games out of a list that's your choice.

You are leaving out quite a few expenses that can really up the price.  For instance you'll need:

Windows to run most games.

An HTPC case since you don't want an ugly tower sitting on your entertainment center

Keyboard, mouse, controller

optional but I'd also need a wireless nic

Now I'm up over $600 and I'm not getting the conveniences of a console.

I understand what you're saying, but I think the only reason you're saying it is because Microsoft dropped the ball on the Xbox One.  If we put the Bone in the PS4s position are you really bringing up buying a PC?  We'll never know.

Guess who's still buying a xbox one

Guess who doesn't care about your obsession with sony?

Thanks for wasting everyone's time with your pointless/annoying bickering.

From someone who had both pre-orders (I doubt I was the only one) and have been waiting patiently to finally decide on one, these new developments are huge in my opinion and have been exactly what I have been waiting for. I wish I could afford both right away to put both of them through the rigor's with my own eyes. Hope you guys enjoy the Xbox One very much I know you will. Also to all the fanboys this and that, try to stay classy San Diego. The disparity between the two will NOT last long that I will guarantee. Signing off the Xbox One pre-order thread.

I wish this topic was about Xbox One preorder information. Can't this offtopic discussion be carried over to a different forum and/or topic?

Costco just posted this:

When will the preoders be back in for the PS4?

Costco Mitchell- Although we expect to carry both new consoles to some degree, quantities will be extremely limited throughout the year and we won't be able to guarantee inventories, location placement, or any pre-orders at this time. -Matt

My tower isn't ugly - he's just unique. Everything else I get is nice and slimmed down looking, but when I make a PC I end up with purple cases, LEDs, plexiglass windows, different colored liquid cooling, etc. It's like I'm still in high school.

Amazon has preorders left for standard edition still. Shipping though 'could' be end of 2013.
I think you'd be better off hitting up all the local stores on launch and shortly after.

Aside from that. Is anyone using a monitor as their main screen? I'm looking to upgrade my PC monitor and was half tempted to get a second one to save some space in my office. If so, how are you hooking up sound over HDMI?

Sorry if this is off topic but If i'm looking to sell my 360 +accessories and games in prep for the XB1, what do you guys think the best way to go would be? Trade in, ebay, craigslist etc. Much appreciated!

Amazon. I would just scout out the prices being offered on eBay and Amazon. You already know the game stores will screw you unless there is something such as extra money being offered/trade in percentage being offered and at that there might not be as good as Amazon or eBay.

I just got my shipping update from Amazon.

Hello,

We now have delivery date(s) for the order you placed on September 16, 2013 (Order#):

"Xbox One Console - Standard Edition"
Estimated arrival date: January 07, 2014 - January 13, 2014
Looks like I will need to try and find one on launch day,

und3rxoath, was your preorder with Amazon for the Day One edition, or the standard? Just curious!

Grats on the update on shipping
Day One edition. I had to change the shipping after receiving a hint from a fellow member here. Took about a week to get a clear update on when it would arrive, I was normally receiving this in early December.

when did you preorder?? I preordered July 22 wondering if I'll get an upgrade as we'll !!??
I pre-ordered July 10th the day you were able to start pre-orders. I changed my shipping (no extra cost) and got my product arriving a week before the original shipping date.

I had a question that maybe someone in this thread could help me out with. I preordered an Xbox One back in July and I was able to get a Day One Edition. I wanted to cancel my preorder (waiting for for more games to be released, so I'm trying my luck with contests), but I was wondering if it would be possible to transfer my preorder to someone else. I would hate to just cancel if there's a way for someone out of the running for Amazon's "Day One upgrade" email to get my preorder. If it's possible, someone quote this and let me know.  :whistle2:k

I dont think its possible unless you just switch out the shipping address and have the other person give you the money for it. I'll do this if you dont mind doing this.

You could do it as a "gift" maybe if you find that person.

Make sure Amazon doesn't catch you doing this. Or you will lose your prime or amazon account.

Yeah, I would be open to the idea. I checked my order history and I put the order in on June 10th (not July). The estimated delivery date is between December 2nd and 3rd (standard shipping). Not sure if getting a Day One was more important than actually having it in-hand on the 22nd, but I just wanted to put that info out there. I can't imagine Amazon NOT updating the date to the 29th at the latest. :whistle2:?

I'm not a Prime member, so none of their "benefits" apply to me. This would be shipped with FSSS. I can't imagine them caring if they get their money and it's shipped to the intended address (at least not enough to cancel my standard account). Thanks for the link, though. :)

Regarding the BF4 images posted in here:

Richard Leadbetter Clarifies BF4 PS4/XB1 Capture Issues
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-battlefield-4-face-off-qa

Wow, it's certainly been a wild and crazy day, with all manner of questions and even accusations floating about concerning our Battlefield 4 coverage. Time to take stock and comprehensively address the queries surrounding our article:

The big question - did Digital Foundry botch its Battlefield 4 captures?

We've now examined Xbox One and PlayStation 4 game and UI/dashboard elements and have concluded that the equipment did exactly what was asked of it - it acquired digital video in a mathematically lossless format at 1080p60, in the full range RGB (0-255) colourspace. Dashboards and control panels were all set accordingly to match the requirements of the equipment. We're now satisfied that the captures on PS4 and PC are exactly as they should be - digitally lossless transmissions of what came out of the hardware.

So what's going on with Xbox One?

Xbox One was also acquired at full range 0-255 RGB with the dash set accordingly, in line with the other versions - exactly how we approach every Face-Off. We have now had informal confirmation from a very good source that current Xbox One hardware has issues with full-range RGB output that are not present on either PC or PS4. We asked DICE for comment and were told that they are "investigating the video output range and settings for Xbox One".

Is this the result of you processing the footage to make it look better compared to PlayStation 4?

Um, you don't make a game look better by crushing subtle detail. The lowering of dynamic range like this physically can't make a game look better - it can only look worse. The only regret here is that the drive for the best possible assets has resulted in captures that do not fully represent how DICE wants the game to be played.

Why isn't anyone else's footage from the same event showing the crushed blacks?

EA provided Elgato Game Capture HD consumer-level devices at the Stockholm event. They're great little units but they are unsuitable for DF work because they cannot acquire 1080p at 60 frames per second and they do not provide lossless video. The reason they do not show crushed blacks on Xbox One is because they operate at limited range RGB (16-235) and the XO dashes were set accordingly. We are told that the current Xbox One appears to be fine operating in limited range RGB, so this is a good match for the unit. We also know that both PS4 and XO hardware at the EA event was set by default to limited range RGB, so other attendees were good to go straight off the bat while we had to make changes to suit our more specialised equipment.

Does the Xbox One issue change any of your observations about Battlefield 4?

No, though we would like to see how the apparent sharpening of detail looks in the proper colourspace. The only change - which we have made already - is the comment from DICE's Johan Andersson that ambient occlusion (missing in the XO review build we tested) will be present in the game you play at launch, using the same algorithm as the PS4 and PC versions.

Did a Digital Foundry employee admit that you botched the captures?

New freelancer John Linneman made comments online suggesting that the workflow was in error and that there wasn't time to correct it. We love John, but he wasn't privy to the workflow of last week's events, nor involved in any of the internal discussions we had. While his heart was in the right place, his post doesn't accurately reflect the facts as they stand and they are certainly not official comment from Digital Foundry.

If you are sitting on 3TB of 1080p60 video, will we see any of it?

Yes.

MS locked in the Titanfall exclusive. EA confirms that it's only coming to 360, PC and XB1. Major Nelson says it's not a timed exclusive either

Big win for MS. They must have paid through the nose for that one. Good strategy though.
CFO Blake Jorgensen emphasized that Titanfall "is exclusive only for the lifetime of the title on Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC."

Microsoft is shelling out big cash for this one considering it is lifetime. I wonder if it applies to the IP itself or just this one title, considering Respawn owns the IP and not EA.

Wow, feel bad for PS4 owners. This is probably the biggest 3rd party game currently I want. Every COD game since MW2 has not been the same, so I'm really jacked for this. Also the BF4 screenshots floating around make me feel even better about the X1. If there is a graphical advantage on the PS4 it's pretty small. I kind of thought some of the X1 footage looked better myself but who knows. It's pretty close either way.

Exactly. The footage is way too close to compare. It really comes down to the titles. For me personally, Titanfall is the system seller.

I am interested in the Order 1886 when that comes out for PS4. Sony does have some pretty good first party titles.

It appears EA went behind Vinces back and inked this deal.

Sequel all but confirmed for PS4.

Can play the first one on the PC or 360 so not sure how many Xbones this will move, but it appears this deal was inked fairly recent. Could be a sign that Microsoft might be more nervous about their position than we thought.
