No, not really, but I'm getting tired of seeing this thread update only to find it's people posting yet again about what they got each morning that they don't want...

I do it because it might be a game that someone else wants and I'd be glad to help them out with that.

Weird question: since Gamersgate's The Pit DLC is DRM free, would it work with my GOG copy of the base game?

Thanks for any help.
Probably not: http://www.gog.com/news/dlc_sword_of_the_stars_the_pit_mindgames :

"NOTE: This version of the DLC works exclusively with the GOG.com DRM-free Sword of the Stars: The Pit game."

and http://www.gog.com/forum/sword_of_the_stars_the_pit/gog_expansion_compatible_with_nongog_base_game/post2 :

"The GOG and other DD versions of the game are different versions. We figured it would be better that folks knew about this before hand and this is why we have the information on the game card itself. Sorry for the inconvenience."

Thanks very much. I was about to pull the trigger on the Gamersgate versions.

You know, I really shouldn't even buy the DLC on GOG. I haven't even played single player yet, so why would I buy the DLC?

I guess I'm concerned the GOG DLC won't go on sale again anytime soon.

I kinda wish I'd gotten The Pitt from another store. GOG doesn't have the best discounts. I just got all starry eyed during the Insomnia sale and picked this up for like $1.50.

*UPDATE*

Just realized the Gold Edition on Gamersgate has the base game and Mindgames included, for less than it would cost me to buy all the DLC for my GOG version. This I might just get that. GG version is DRM free too.

This'll teach me to only buy GOG exclusive games on GOG.

Annnnnnnd Gamersgate has Baldur's Gate 2 and Icewind Dale 2 on sale today. I didn't need to buy the stupid bundle yesterday after all, and get three games I really didn't want.

I need to learn to be more patient.

That's what I just did (get the Gold Edition on GG). Also, note that you get a Steam key as well. I may still get the DLC for my vanilla GOG version because, well, I have no valid reasoning.

What's wrong with us?

Y'know, I should just play the vanilla version I own. If I absolutely love it, I can pick up the gold version later.

Oh God Damnit, shouldn't have pulled the trigger on that deal but this came out of nowhere

Got Lands of Lore 1+2 for 1.79 from the random box,not interested

I

I think just about everyone who doesn't already have Fahrenheit would be interested in it if it's 75% off or cheaper.

My Timeless Classic: MDK 2 for $1.49 75% off. GOG needs the HD version...

Hmm, very weird, you can solo-pick Wing Commander 5 from the "bundle" window for $1.99, but if you go to it's GOG page you can pay an extra dollar for it.

I do it because it might be a game that someone else wants and I'd be glad to help them out with that.
Also to just get a flavor of what's being offered.

Like GOG I do, but for current games with DLC still rolling Steam is the best platform since you can pick up steam dlc from a lot of different sales. Another prime example is Crusader Kings II is steam everywhere but GG (drm-free) thus it makes sense to buy it anywhere else.

It's the loneliness and feeling incomplete... applies to game dlc too. ;)

You can request a refund. You have 14 days for regrettable purchases and 30 days for computer compatibility issues. I'm mulling over the same thing myself.
Wait, you can return games you just wish you hadn't bought? I thought it was just games that didn't work?

I think I'd feel weird asking for a refund just because I found a better deal.

You know, getting The Pit on GOG may be a blessing in disguise. Apparently, once you buy the DLC, you can't toggle it off, and it' makes the game a LOT harder.

So maybe I buy the Gold Gamersgate edition for later, when I'm ready to play the added content, and I'll always have my plain vanilla GOG copy ready for me if I want to go back.

No dude, read the middle passage. I can't copy and paste since I'm on my phone but it starts with "There's even more!"

Also, I think someone earlier asked if you can buy multiple copies of the mystery box games. I can confirm it's just for one copy. I picked up Crusader: No Remorse for $1.79 as a Timeless Classic.

I still feel weird asking for a refund for FIVE games :(

Omikron 75% off 2.49 is my timeless classic choice today. I will pick up Wing Commander 5 regardless this sale....not sure about the pack it's in though own strike suit zero from a friend already on steam.

So you say you bought the D&D bundle before remembering that you already have it on Gamersgate. That's the case with me - I'll let you borrow my excuse. Personally, I'm thinking I'll keep mine since GOG did all the work in getting them to run on modern systems and I think they do more for PC gaming than any other retailer.

Speaking of which, in case you are going to play Baldur's Gate with mods (which you will almost certainly want to) be aware that there's a file missing from the GG distribution called bgate2.mpi, which causes things like EasyTuTu to fail. You can find the file around the net (or PM me and I can send it). It's weird that only this file is missing - almost makes me think it was done intentionally.

This is also a good reason for me to keep the GOG versions :)

Random Magic.

Thief: Deadly Shadows (Thief 3) = 75% off @ $2.49.

Don't need it.

I already own this from retail...

Actually, I do recall where I bought that - Gogamer.com.

I bought a TON of games from them, back in the day when they were in business.
I used to shop there a lot too. Before I was a Steam hoarder I tried to stick to retail. I remember they used to have crazy deals from time to time.

Yeah - I tried to hit whatever retailer or internet store w/ warehouses that sold retail products (Amazon, Gogamer, Chips N Bits, etc) had the best deal and version, back in the day.

Yeah - and that was before I began digital hoarding everywhere. I still hit retail sometimes - but certainly nowhere even close to how I used to. Their deals normally just....ain't that good, in most instances.

The only retail I ever shop for PC games now is Half Price Books because they get a lot of cheaper PC games. But even then I tend to get everything digital now. Just a lot easier to hide my hoard and so much cheaper. I buy boxed PC games from time to time for nostalgia.

Thanks for the tip, guys, but I'd also feel bad asking for a refund just to save a couple bucks (even if I lied about it haha) And anyway the money's going to good people so I'll live

Any idea what order I should play the D&D games in?

I THNK this is the order they were published:

Baldur's Gate
Planescape Torment
Icewind Dale
Baldur's Gate 2
Neverwinter Nights
Icewind Dale 2
The Temple of Elemental Evil
Demon Stone
Dragonshard
Neverwinter Nights 2

This is a list of the GOG bundle.

See, I look at the Might and Magic deal, and that's my limit on retro gaming. I can get into a game as old as Baldur's gate, but those Might and Magic games are just too long in the tooth for me.

Or maybe I'm missing something, and should buy those TOO. (Which would guarantee a Gamersgate sale on them for 50 cents).

I'd say Planescape Torment first, followed by BG and BG2, then NWN and NWN 2, and the others in whichever order grabs you. The Icewind Dale series is basically Baldurs Gate-lite (more combat-oriented, less OMG-I-can-save-or-ruin-the-world-depending-on-how-I-answer-this-next-question story-oriented), and this isn't necessarily a bad thing. ToEE is a bit of a buggy mess but if you get the community patch it's supposed to clean up and degunk this game and make it a whole lot better; I haven't tried this myself yet. Dragonshard is an RTS/action game set in Eberron; I could not get into it at all. Demon Stone is a pretty decent third-person ARPG set in the Forgotten Realms. I hope that helps.
