Just so you know my computer was recently finished. Not the greatest PC ever but it's quite the upgrade from my laptop. You'll probably actually see me PLAYING games from my backlog on occasion now instead of just pure idling for CARDZZZZZ.

Do note that I said I would be playing games, not playing good games. Though I will be playing good games on occasion. Probably much less than the crap I will be playing like Guise of the Wolf.

So Carlmundo's group is doing a 'vote for this game on greenlight and get a chance to win a Steam key for it' thing now. Granted they are giving away 200 copies...
This was actually a fail on my part. The game is doing incredibly well and voting was never a requirement. I've taken out the text that suggests it is. Sorry about that.

I know nobody reads my posts, but this is why I asked Carl straight up what the benefit of assembling such a massive group is (by providing free giveaways by being a member). One of my hypotheticals was that it would serve as a "personal army" to push games through Greenlight. It looks like that may be what the group's going to turn into...
Just to clarify, I run the group because I (strangely) enjoy doing so and it genuinely feels good doing the giveaways. I don't make any money from doing this (it actually costs me). I know it may be hard to believe that I don't have a hidden agenda but I put a lot of time and effort sorting these things out for you guys so if you have any feedback, let me know so I can make more use of it :)

I guess if I had my own game I wanted to put on Steam then the group would benefit me but judging by my game making skills, that won't be happening any time soon: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=160561937

If you guys ever want to direct me personally, feel free to quote me, add me or send me a PM :D

Wait... I own Divinity 2!?!

Edit: :wall: I am such a dumbass.
I think Div 2 DC was in some bundle before.

I think that's how I got it onto Steam - I know I got it on Steam now.

I've had Div 2: ED (original) from Retail;

Div 2 DKS from Amazon;

and Div 2 DC from Larian Vault* & also on Steam.

* = Larian accepted those w/ DRM-laced keys of DKS onto their Larian Vault, if you requested it via E-Mail and gave them your key-code; and they upgraded you w/ a DC Code to get the game via their Larian Vault.

You knew it had to happen. Gamefly has instituted a $10 minimum to use their 20% off coupon codes now.

Admittedly, they do offer a 15% off coupon with no minimum which is more than GMG does, but still not good news for cheapasses.
Ugh. Why are all the good coupons going away before I really have a chance to use them? First "Oops", then GMG, and now this.

Sorry Carl, I never thought you were a bad person or getting paid off by devs. Just that you had the idea to make a group to push games through Greenlight for devs to approach. But you made an honest mistake, I'm glad voting's not required for contests. As for "direction", just make sure never to do a promo where you have to vote for a game on Greenlight to enter a contest. As long as you don't cross that line, I can live with the "free game for voting" thing.

That's one game I have no idea where it came from. You know your backlog and game collection is getting rather voluptuous when you can't recall how you obtained it or what you did to get it.

It was bugging me so I looked it up. Apparently it was included in the Home Focus Interactive Humble Weekly back from October 10th-17th, 2013. It also was bundled with:

Cities XL Platinum, Blood Bowl: Legendary Edition, and R.A.W. Realms of Ancient War. If you paid $6 or more, you also received Wargame: European Escalation and The Testament of Sherlock Holmes.

The more you know? Right? Er, something like that.

Oh, yes - I know I definitely bought that bundle. :D

$1 tier.

I just wanted to say, you're a swell chap (and not just because I like getting free games). I really like what you've done with this group, and hope it can last awhile longer before making you broke ^_~

So since I'm probably the only CAG that's played Motte Island, I guess I'll do a mini review.

Firstly, there's a bug that makes Steam overlay not work properly. Whenever you open the overlay, the image gets stuck at the top and bottom borders of the screen, can be seen here. Best to disable it if you plan on playing it.

Now on to the game.. It's a top down survival horror that took some inspiration from the classic Resident Evil/Silent Hill. Since there aren't many top-down horror games I can think of (or any at all, really), it's hard to compare it to any specific game. My playtime was about 5 hours, but on average it'd probably take around 3-5 hours to complete.

The story. atmosphere, and music are actually pretty decent for a game that most of us got from a giveaway. The script has a lot of broken english in it, it can mostly be understood but all of it could have been easily fixed before release if they had anyone with a decent understanding of english on the dev team. The broken english can cause some of the objectives to be a tad bit confusing, because they aren't explained fully.

Most of the enemies have some fairly unique designs to them. If you're terrified of bugs.. then you probably shouldn't play this game as a great deal of the monsters are designed based on them. This actually made the game creepier to me, since I'm not a fan of insects lol.

The combat could use a lot of work. You can only equip one weapon at a time, and there's no option to store them, so if you want a new weapon, you have to drop your old one. This can be frustrating when you want to use a gun. There are 3 guns (pistol, shotgun, rifle), and all 3 have very limited ammo. 2 of the guns aren't that easy to find, and I couldn't find the pistol in my playthrough. I don't think there's more than 30 rounds for each gun in the game, and the guns seemed pretty useless against normal enemies (they're alright for boss fights.. but there aren't many situations you'd use them in). There are 2 FPS sequences that seem really forced, so the game isn't entirely top-down.

Game is very dependent on stealth. If you sneak up on an enemy from behind and melee them, it's a one hit kill. This is the best way to play the game as it takes much longer to kill an enemy if you're spotted. I personally stuck with the machette and samurai sword for most of the game.. There is a decent variety of melee weapons in the game, but I found that quick charge attack + fast normal attack is the best combination (for me at least), so most of the other weapons weren't as useful.

Navigation can be somewhat frustrating, as there's no map of the island in the game. This is silly, because some of the buildings have maps for them, which have a much simpler layout, but the maps that you do find can't be saved to your inventory.. so you basically have to memorize them. At one point in the game, I got stuck for a while because I couldn't find the cemetery. If I had a map, that wouldn't have been an issue. Another feature that wasn't polished is the health bar, it covers the entire bottom of the screen. Surely they could have made it noticeable enough while taking up less screen space.

Overall, if you love survival horror I'd recommend giving the game a shot, just set your expectations low. I probably would have paid a dollar for it if I hadn't gotten it for free.

EDIT: Posted the review on Steam too, since there weren't any good ones available. If anyone wants to upvote it, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

NinjaSquirrel told me it's a game best played co-op...so maybe.. you and me.. maybe.. well.. you know... :grouphug:
I agree! It's definitely more fun and it's a lot easier to build and maintain your defenses when it's done co-op. Mine's uninstalled at the moment (I'm going day-to-day on an older gaming laptop until I complete building my new machine) due to space, but when I get it back on the tiny HDD again I'd definitely love to join in a game of Sanctum.

I'm not a fan of insects lol.

For anyone who bought Dragon Commander...

...does the game come w/ Steam''s CEG DRM?

In other words - when you boot the game from the actual game folder by its EXE file - even if Steam's closed, does it force Steam client program to boot up?

The game starts on it's own via .exe. It does not start the Steam client.

Awesome.

I'll have to make sure to buy the Steam-version, when I do - best of both Steam worlds + DRM-FREE worlds!

(Boot EXE when Steam's closed, only the game boots)

Doesn't really surprise me, given Larian's major dislike for DRM.

I think Div 2 DKS works like this (ain't tried it since I don't have it there; but I recall Larian did release DRM-FREE EXE on their boards; and you could apply that to Steam-version).

I'd guess Div 2 DC works like this, as well.

EDIT:

Man, I wish there was a Demo for this Dragon Commander. Bleh.

EDIT 2:

For the one person here who actually cares.
You should be happy that THIS makes it VERY easy for me to want the Steam-version.

For me - If only all Steam-games were like that. ;)

Hmmmm...

I'm missing Iron Storm period.

I have Darkstone from GOG.

I have RTMI from Groupees Capsule Computer 3 bundle (DRM-FREE).

I don't have the RTMI 2.

I certainly wouldn't mind putting both on Steam.
I wonder if there's any hope in getting RTMI keys for purchasers of that Groupees. Even if so, it seems that both RTMI games will see more bundles, likely soon.

Both DRM-free games look interesting, though.

stanley parable is waiting for its diapers to get changed. you have only yourself to blame for lack of sale
wow, this meme has sure got some legs!

edit:...i know I know; and between those legs is a diaper that needs to be changed har har. Save it.

If they were going to distribute keys to Groupees they would have done so by now. It's been over a month. Some people on the Steam community forum claim they wrote to Meridian 4 support and got a key while others claim they never heard back. You can certainly try if you want. For $1.50 I couldn't be fussed. Plus I'd still want the second one.

Side note: It seems any thread discussing the possibility of getting Steam keys to existing owners for a newly released (to Steam) game can't get through without having the word 'entitled' thrown around.
