GOG Deals Thread

You know, if Jack Keane 2 were just a little bit more reasonably priced, I'd pick it up just for giggles.

$7.49 is a little bit much for a joke though.

 Ack...  spellforce.

I have the CD version, but I can not get it to work on XP/Windows 7.  I always thought I MIGHT want to play it...  now I have a week to make up my mind...  ARGGHGHGHH

Reading through the GOG thread...  They are really worked up about this.  I actually don't think it is that big of a deal.  Some of the games are good, but some are junk.  Just not that big of a deal...

Movies are stupid.  Not sure why you would try to enter that market.

Most of the games are available on Steam if I decide I need them with a few exceptions.

I haven't quite figured out the relationship between Panzer Elite SE (GOG) and Panzer Elite Action Gold (Steam).  I don't see The Guild on Steam but Guild II is there.  The Nations games are not available on Steam and neither is Silver.

Silver looks interesting.  Any need to play Guild if you can play Guild II?  Nations/Alien Nations any good?

Didn't mention I'm on mobile xD

The info is after the reviews. Weird layout.
I almost asked you that before posting. I have never viewed GOG as a mobile page and most mobile site layouts bug me. I change my browser on my phone and tablet to display desktop and then change to mobile if desktop isn't working.

I wonder if the desktop layout is in columns so the right hand column ends up at the end of the left hand column (where the reviews are) on mobile. Or something. I'm too lazy busy to view the source and analyze.

Most of Daedalic's games are now much cheaper for me - about 66% of their US MSRP. Nordic Games' products are still the same price. Oddly, Deponia 2 is $20 while Deponia 3 is $11.

Heh, maybe I can help folks out with sales now.

Spent quite a while looking through reviews and added these ones that I didn't have already.  Came out to $20ish which seems like very good value:

  • Desperados: Wanted Dead Or Alive
  • Full Spectrum Warrior: Ten Hammers
  • Guild 2 Renaissance, The
  • Guild Gold Edition, The
  • Painkiller Black Edition
  • Penumbra Collection, The
  • Silver
  • Spellforce 2: Demons Of The Past
  • Summoner

You know what's funny?

A lot of these games were published by JoWood and were part of a "they might be gone forever!" sale back in 2011. Then Nordic Games bought the catalog and kept the games up.

Now this happens.

I like these choices. I am not as fond of Guild 2 but felt #1 was much better though buggy as heck. I like less micromanaging is all.

For the most part, I like that list. You've pretty much picked the cream of the crop from the farewell sale. Though I'd probably swap Spellforce Platinum for Demons Of The Past and make two additions to this list (Freedom Force vs. the 3rd Reich and Red Faction).

That's not to say that you need to buy those games if you're not interested. But your list and those two games that I added should be a starting point for people looking for help sifting through the pile of games.

I'll wait for Full spectrum warrior complete on Steam (if I ever decided about buying this game). Now I'm looking at Guild 1, can't see it on Steam.

Yep, I agree. I have Spellforce Platinum on GOG and the Freedom Force pack on Steam - I can definitely recommend Freedom Force; had lots of fun playing it. Pondered Red Faction 1&2 for the longest time and finally decided that even at reduced prices I have plenty of shooters in the backlog. I find the older strategy and RPG games age gracefully but when it comes to shooters... not so much. :p

Some Activision games at 60% off and some Europeans complaining about the new website, they want their old and safe colors and layout back. Maybe they'll ask for a chat room next.

I want Dark Reign and Spycraft but not at a mere 60% off. Try again, GOG.

You know, I might want a chat room too. But I'd probably just look at it a couple of times and put it away like I do with most of my GOG collection. I think the new site layout is fine, although with the exception of the lack of a "dark" theme, it does look a bit like they're trying to emulate Steam.

I don't like that it doesn't say Owned for the games I own anymore. They are shaded a tiny bit, almost to the point where I can barely tell it's shaded.

Silver is the only GOG exclusive on the farewell sale list...in case anyone was curious. What can't be found on Steam can be obtained through gamersgate or amazon PCDD.

I already got a huge chunk of the games when JoWood went under, and the only thing I grabbed this time - through a trade, even - was Summoner. The game's already on Steam, but since Volition has a habit of never fixing their older games, might as well go with the version that will crash the least.

What's the better looking version of "Silver"?  The PC version fully optimized or the Dreamcast version?

Why would you buy Summoner, Fox?  Everyone knows the best version of it is the Gamecube version, with the most content and it got a graphical update when it first came out on the PS2.

That was Summoner 2, which never even released on the PC.

A shame too because I thought it was an excellent game, though I only ever played the PS2 version.

If you're a console dude then you're better off with the DC version of the game, it's less hassle to get the game to run.

And Volition should release Summoner 2 on PC, but they're too busy repackaging Saints Row for the umpteenth time to care.

Oh sorry, thanks for the info Motoki.

Ooh, you're a Nihon Falcom fan too?!
Yep. It's nice that their games are getting Steam (and I guess GOG :p) releases now.

I don't think anyone has touched those games for years. They were really done well. IMHO a better 'Western JRPG' than Silver. *shrug*

My concern is which has the higher res. and texture options as well as an AA option.
