Xbox One - General Discussion Thread

Do we have any confirmation that "Phantom Dust" will be made by the same team that created the first one?

While I will not be buying it at full pirice since I have played through the original, I will get it down the road if I know they didn't fuck up the gameplay.

my downstairs set has 3 hdmi ports. currently occupied by wiiu, ps4 and my cable box/dvr. so by connecting the xobx and cable box I would only then feed one hdmi cable to the tv? meaning I would have enough ports to satisfy all the devices?
The best solution to your situation is to get an HDMI switcher (cheaper) or surround sound receiver with ample HDMI inputs (more expensive but better). Never let the TV's limited number of ports hold you back.

I think the better idea is to run the cable box to the xbox one seeing how A) it doesn't cost any more money and B) you don't have to switch inputs to watch tv. I rarerly watch tv though so I don't know about the sq through the speakers because I'm just using $30 computer speakers my monitor

I thought he didn't want to do that because he'd have to turn the Xbox One on in order to watch TV. It's weak that the console has to be on for the pass-through to work.

I located a nice hdmi switcher (if that is the technical term) on amazon. It has 5 ports. this may be even better...that way i can move the ps3 and 360 downstairs as well. thankfully it can all be hidden behind cabinet doors in the entertainment center.

I should also clarify...I do not enjoy heavily military themed fps titles. I did enjoy halo 2 in my younger years, but that was more about the community I played with. I may look into the master chief collection at some point. I never played any of the gears of war titles.

so forza is as good as I hear? that will be one of my first purchases along with sunset overdrive.

I'm really getting pissed off. They need to fix the Blu-Ray app. The system never reads a Blu-Ray when I first put it in, lately I have to put a game in, have it read and start the game, eject it and then put in my Blu-Ray. Otherwise, it doesn't recognize a disc in the system. It's really really annoying.

Forza Horizon 2 is my favorite racer. Forza 5 is good if you like a more simulation-oriented racer a la Gran Turismo.

Turn 10 goes down to the amazingly accurate detail in their real life tracks - they have created some magical virtual tracks too - and cars. The many iterations of Forza Motorsport has helped make a racer for anyone. You can have all assists off, all or some assists on, auto-upgrade your car or go through every part of your car down to the flywheel. Forza Horizons 2 gets a lot of praise because it's the newest entry in the Forza line up but FM5 should hardly be dismissed as one of the best on the Xbox One. Both games take advantage of Microsoft's Azure servers with real time data shaping the AI and the game's currency system of FM5 (which was all out of wack at launch). Just my 2 cents.

I just finished up the second half of FH2 and I think it just has more legs than FM5 does, especially for someone who doesn't play a ton of racing games. There are many more 'video game' elements (barn finds, bucket list, collectibles) that make it more fun for most.

Personally I had a blast with FM5 but didn't get too far into the game. I really need to load it back up. FH2 was awesome but I felt like the second half of the game was a little weak. I wanted more races against planes, trains, etc!

edit: Anyone pickup one of these guys yet - http://www.amazon.com/Racing-Force-Feedback-Pedals-Xbox-One/dp/B00GSJAQ9W/ref=zg_bs_6469287011_4 ? $400 is a bit of cash to throw down, but we're early in this gen so I could see it getting plenty of use.

Do you have "auto-play" enabled for when you put a disc in? For some reason, my Xbox won't read discs without doing weird things unless that's on.

I've only used the Thrustmaster TX Racing wheel, but from a pure design standpoint, Thrustmaster's wheel looks way better. Madcatz's wheel is fugly. Also Thrustmaster's wheel has the same retail price but sells for less on Amazon. Will post my review of the Thrustmaster wheel within the next week or so.

damn that thing looks nice. I'm looking forward to your review, but I don't think I'll get WAF for that purchase.

Yeah special events seem to be all completed at that point (just picking races now as Champ). I'm guessing they wanted them to be special events so they're limited. I've got all but one barn find too.

I've got the Hori one on my Christmas list: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00L6AVN6S/ref=aw_wl_ov_dp_1_1?colid=54UN9END12YF&coliid=I32DZOGWWQNGN7

Thinking about grabbing a few games at Best Buy during the upcoming B2G1 sale which should hold me over on games for a while, but I'm not sure what I should get. Thinking about Dragon Age, Far Cry (loved the 3rd game) and GTAV (only problem is that I already have it digitally on 360. Do I want to go back to gaming on the 360 though)? Also considering Destiny as I haven't really seen a sale on that, and it seems like people have been sinking a lot of time into it. Really just looking to get the most bang for my buck. Thoughts? Suggestions?

Well I think it all comes down to what you like... I mean if you like the idea of an MMO first person shooter then Destiny would be for you. the story is almost non-exsistent and there is not much to do on your own, so take that into account.

I had GTA V on 360, beat the single player and played a bit online, but i still got GTA V on next gen and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. The first person mode alone makes it feel like a new game. But again it depends on how much you enjoyed it the first time around.

Just started playing Far Cry and LOVE IT!! so much to do and see! I would say DA, GTA, and Far Cry

I agree on GTA V and the big leap from last gen, and first person shooting is so much better than third.

One thing you said about Destiny isn't really true, though: There's plenty to do on your own. In fact, you can play almost every part of the game without needing any friends to play with. The raid and weekly strikes don't have matchmaking, but everything else can be done solo.

Thanks guys, appreciate the input. I think Far Cry is going to be a must have for me, just going to have to decide between the other three. Honestly only played like an hour or two of GTAV so it would pretty much be an all new experience for me. Just not sure if the upgrades are going to be worth buying something I already have.

As for Destiny, I really liked Borderlands and I've never played an MMO, but they've always seemed intriguing to me but I've never wanted to pay to play. Do you guys think I'll be screwed starting it so late? Do the online modes count low rank against you, or is everyone pretty much on an even playing field like Call of Duty for instance?

Skip Destiny and get Titanfall instead, imo. Dragon Age: Inquisition, Far Cry 4, & Titanfall are my suggestions.

If you're looking for 'bang for your buck', The Master Chief Collection will give you four great campaigns, and multiplayer that is slowly improving. Should keep you busy for a while.
Plus you'll get $15 back in Microsoft credit if you pick it up this month.

I also put a ton of time into Diablo III....I mean a ridiculous amount of time. Game was so addictive.
I wish I kept track of how many hours I spent on it, I would guess well over a hundred.

I agree, fps mode makes it a whole new game imo. Was worth the rebuy.

Yes! Yes! Yes! Far Cry 4 is awesome, really good game. Not as good as FC3 but still a damn good game. Just got the plat earlier today, enjoyed every second except for grinding for xp to get all the skills. Oh yea, the game is really beautiful

Lol at best keeper hit and run. It's still on pc so Microsoft still gets the game. Plus street fighter has lost its lust over recent years.

No no, Street Fighter is as horny as ever.
i played street fighter on 360 until i sold it last year sf4 arcade edition and seem like when i played i had to play the same person many times due to lack of people online. With that said it's capcom im sure it was to make sony happy after dr3 was microsoft only game.

*until Super Street Fighter V comes out 6 months later on all platforms.
This isn't like Rise of the Tomb Raider where the verbiage said "Exclusive holiday 2015" and was later confirmed by Spencer to be timed, so I wouldn't count on it, however I can see the Super Ultra edition being multiplat.

Yeah that is what he said. Right now the title of the game is Street Fighter V not Super Street Fighter V.

I thought he didn't want to do that because he'd have to turn the Xbox One on in order to watch TV. It's weak that the console has to be on for the pass-through to work.
How else would it work? Anyway I need to clear out some of my backlog just to clear space on my harddrive. Should probably hunker down and finish COD got stuck on the stealth part and said fuck it and set it aside. I'm 65% full and I probably only have 5-6 games. I don't want to spend more on an external harddrive right now.

As anyone tried out game of thrones yet?
Yes, I have. If you like the GoT universe then you will love it. It starts up during a significant event in book/season three. You control the fate of House Forrester, one of House Starks bannermen. I highly recommend it so far. I haven't finished it yet though.

It could have been designed in such a way that HDMI pass-through works without the main system being on. This would still draw power, but it could be done in standby mode. It's no big deal that Microsoft didn't do it that way, but I personally am not crazy about drawing power from both devices while watching TV. The launch/current Xbox One uses a lot of power.

Cool, did you check out my review linked on the previous page? Would like to know if you agree with the praises and criticisms after you're done. :)

Glad I have an external drive or I wouldn't be able to download the Halo 5 beta which has a 10.27 gb download. My internal is maxed out with digital, would have sucked to delete those and then have to redownload them.

Don't forget The Game Awards tonight 9pm EST. You can watch it online or via your Xbox
Weren't the game awards an embarrassment last year? I know a lot of people didn't like Joel McHale and I'm sure he won't be there, but still I sure don't have the highest of expectations for the show.

That was that Spike TV garbage, Viacom doesn't have any ties with the awards this year, it's a whole new set up

I broke down and sold my copy of COD to bestbuy and bought a 1tb western digital desktop drive with the money. I already have the docking station so for $20 or so for the bare drive after the trade in seems like a good investment

I want to apologize to anyone who watched this pile of crap show after I brought it to everyone's attention. I'm sorry. zzzzzzzzzzzzz
