Xbox One - General Discussion Thread

IGN's writing contradicting itself doesn't mean it isn't true since it comes straight from Square Enix's mouth and I don't expect the game to be Xbox exclusive I'm just in the court that I don't believe it'll come to PS4 and it'll be a similar arrangement to Dead Rising 3 and Ryse.

Again. Wait till you hear from mircosoft. Sony had no problem saying SF v was pc/PS4 exclusive. I'd rather just wait for actual conformation than assuming things.

but they acted like dead rising 3 was xbox one only game same with ryse
Because at the time they were. Later they were ported to because because guess what? They didn't have full rights to the game. Capcom published dr 3 on pc and xbox one in Japan.

I think you guys just assume publish = owning which is not true at all.

EA published titanfall but they dont own it which is why titanfall 2 could be published by some one else.

No big deal for me either way, if Microsoft locks it down then I play it on the Xbox One.. If not then on the PS4.. definitely not losing sleep over it.

i will say it's sad to see all the 3rd party devs doing this. It makes me really worried how safe the gaming industry is when 3rd party devs need a giant pay day from console maker to even survive.

Well for the most part Mega-Publishers like EA, Ubisoft and Activision haven't resorted to third-party exclusives IIRC (Minus Titanfall).

In both Suqare Enix and Capcom's situations we know neither company is in the best spot financially so it makes sense that they'd jump on these kind of deals. They end up getting money towards development costs, marketing, and other expenses all the while still raking in a profit from the game they sell.

Titanfall would be the only exception in EA's case, but given how much Microsoft advertised that game I can only imagine they wrote quite the check for EA and after weighing their options EA considered it a smart financial move.

well with titanfall EA was pretty much about to drop the game so i will say im happy ms did what they did or we good chance would not have titanfall

A second statement was released by Square.

“Our partnership with Microsoft on ‘Rise of the Tomb Raider’ does have a duration, but we aren’t discussing those details at this time and are focused on collaborating to deliver a great game on Xbox One and Xbox 360"

I'm hosting a Twitch stream tonight at 8pm Central (6 Pacific, 9 Eastern) for 2 hours tonight, featuring two Japanese Xbox One games: Puyo Puyo Tetris and Onigiri. We're giving out two Titan One accessories and several Xbox gift card codes as prizes. Please check it out if you can.

I saw that Tetris game when I went to download Onigiri, how much it is? I wouldn't mind picking that up. I already know I'm going to be buying a lot of stuff from their marketplace when they start adding more japanese games

I guess you could take that as PC later and not PS4 but my feeling is if that was the case they would just say that.

Puyo Puyo Tetris is $54 shipped from Play-Asia. It's not available to download, AFAIK.

Raises hand.

I care about the next Tomb Raider.  I enjoyed the reboot quite a lot and I've never been a TR fan in the past.  I even played it on both the 360 and X1.  I know a lot of people who enjoyed the game and if it went Sony exclusive we would've been pissed.

On the slipside....I could give two poops about SFV.  That franchise is long dead to me, so they can have it.  Now, Transistor....that one irks me.

Lol, the reboot saved the franchise and was influenced off of Uncharted. As Uncharted seems to be influenced by Tomb Raider now, fill circle.

This... I absolutely loved the reboot and am excited to play Tomb Riser. I'm glad that it's coming to my chosen console, but I'm not particularly glad that it's an exclusive, and if I could somehow wave a magic wand and make both TR and Street Fighter multiplat, I would do that in a second.

First party exclusives are a given, but third party exclusives just don't feel right.  Other than who is waving the checkbooks around, I don't understand *why* TR or SF needed to be exclusive at all.

I loved the TR reboot except for the multiplayer, it was not good and felt very tacked on. I personally cant wait for the new one I hope it does well.

Honestly who even cares about the new Tomb Raider? The reboot wasn't even that great for 360/PS3....

As a PS guy I loved the TR reboot and was saddened by the MS exclusive deal but I still have my 360. However MS fans don't have to worry about the SF exclusive deal at all.

CAPCOM is well known to do multiple versions of the same SF game years later, FACT. There will be an ultra SFV a year or 2 later on the XBone, FACT, they just have to rename the SFV game with added content, that is all.

You don't? S-E had trouble breaking even with the TR title (or they had rediculous sales expectations) and CAPCOM is not to good shape financially due to their shitty game decisions (when was the last time a good resident evil game sold well, cancelling Megaman) and business practices (milking mutiple SF versions, I got burned on Marvel vs Capcom 3, never again).

If Sony was smart they could go after an exclusive Megaman/CAPCOM PSN deal.

I would have gotten SF on ps4 anyway if it was multiplat since the d-pad is better so it doesn't really matter to me. These deals do suck for guys who dont have both consoles but I understand why they are happening.

TR did fine financially. Targets/expectations are different from profit. S/E had their head up their ass and misplaced expectations on TR and Hitman (really??) to save them. It did really well critically and commercially, but it didn't save them from their poor decisions in every other aspect of their portfolio (my humble opinion). I do not think Microsoft needed to step in for Tomb Riser to be made.

I don't pay attention to Capcom any more, so I can't comment there.

I think Crystal wasn't sure with TR... especially with the knowledge that Uncharted was coming out and would take some market share.  I am sure they went to both and said hey we need some extra capital for this game to come out at all, we all know it will do weel, will you help us.  For all we know they went to Sony first because of the install base but I am sure Sony Balked at it because of Uncharted coming out and not NEEDING two games that are similar, so they passed.  MS saw a big opportunity to have a game go against Uncharted and say hey, Sony has Uncharted, we have TR, it's a push...

I mean even if it is actually timed and goes to PS4 eventually I don't think it would completely hurt any one(except gamers).  I mean they could wait 6 months to a year to bring it over, get a bunch of sales out of it at launch, and then even more when PS4 users get it and have already beat Uncharted and have moved on.  I loved the original TR because it gave me an Uncharted feel during a period we were without uncharted.

Very smart move though i Crystal's part really getting a win win no matter what

Add me to the list that loved the reboot, it was one of my favorite games last year and I look forward to the sequel.

Speaking of Tomb Raider, has anyone tried Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris yet?  Seems kind of pricy especially with the season pass.

I read that SO season pass has achievements. That's a plus for me.

I dont think so, this game was coming out regardless as multiplat but MS bought the timed exclusive deal sometime after E3. I think it was a smart move on their part.

again, that was what I was getting at... they probably went to both just to see if they wanted to do it... I am sure almost every game now may do it just to see what they can get, you would be dumb not to. but it has to make sense financially to accept the deal.

My point was either way Crystal would be fine.

Speaking of achievements, I'm kind of gutted that the new Destiny DLC doesn't have any. It's not the end of the world and I still love the game, but it just feels so weird and wrong.

theres bigger problems than just not having trophies with the whole dlc Destiny debacle, trust me.

I don't have Destiny but the first wave of Titanfall DLC didn't have achievements but the achievements for that DLC came on a later title update. Maybe that will happen with Destiny?

Why? I'm sure Microsoft would much rather sell more copies to push their hardware than their Windows platform. They get more money from their own licensing fees than giving them to Valve (since that is where it seems most of the sales would be).

I don't think any of the 3 consider PC a competitor to be honest. Hell most people either steal games on PC or wait till they are dirt cheap lol.

 Me I loved that game. Beat it on 360 and XB1. I also have it on PS4 which I'll beat before the new one comes out on XB1. Not to mention the PS+ PS3 copy I have. Great game.

Ughhh, I haven't played Destiny in over a month and a half. Definitely not now, going to just dump the season pass. New cheevos would have got me interested again. Oh well

Onigiri is the first MMORPG for Xbox One, and it's free. The catch is it's only available in Japanese. I've written a detailed guide that explains how to download the game and play it on any console. The guide also includes menu translations and gameplay tips that will make it easier to play for English speakers. Please check it out!

Cool, did you check out my review linked on the previous page? Would like to know if you agree with the praises and criticisms after you're done. :)
Sorry, I totally forgot to respond to this. I really like your review! I just finished the third book (via audible, not that it matters) You are really missing a lot by not having reached the end of the third book. There is an aura of true despair that is projected so well in the show. It definitely feels like a Telltale game to me. Which is a good thing. It would probably rate above Walking Dead and below Wolf Among Us for me. I am definitely looking forward to picking up the other episodes. I will keep an eye out for your review of the next episode for sure!

Oddly enough dirt cheap is where developers make a crapton of money.

On the subject of xbox, is it just my connection or is anyone having a lot of trouble with the party system lately? I been using xbox to chat with my gf when I am not visiting her because it's much easier but I find I keep getting disconnected from the party at least once a night. If I am lucky it wont happen.

Thanks Dark Rider! Maybe I'll read the books someday.

Not with retail games. Once the game's price dips low enough, the store is just never going to order any more. Sale prices on downloadable games often bring in large amounts of money quickly though, and they don't kill the possibility of future sales at regular price.
