I'd love to know how people pick a movie to go see. Do they actually try to determine the quality / potential of the movie or do they just kind of wriggle their eyebrows and nudge each other until they end up going to see Paul Blart Mall Cop?

Depends on if they have kids. If they have kids, assholes target commercials at the kids and then the kids bug the parents to go see the movie.

If they don't have kids, people pick based on how stupid they are.

I haven't seen that much airbrushing since a Topps Traded card from the 70s.

How'd I miss one fuck ing chinpokemon!! I know I got him, but must have restarted a save right before it or something earlier! fuck, now it locks me out of getting my last friend too!! I don't mind going through the game again, but I was hoping not to have to find all those collectibles again! I want to get to my 4 for february.

This is pretty fucking awesome. Somebody wrote a script that lets you pull in your entire PSN catalog and easily filter your games by system, date, size, etc. Looks like this:

2HJw6w9.jpg

To try it out, just log into the web store and paste this into your URL bar, replacing the store.sonyentertainment stuff. Firefox and Chrome both strip out the javascript bit at the beginning so manually add it back in:

javascript:$.getScript("//repod.github.io/psdle/psdle.js");void(0);

After you hit enter you'll get a blue icon in the lower left. Click it to enter the above interface.
This is cool, but having kept a spreadsheet for a few years now a little late. It would be cool if you could dump it into excel with the little pictures icons.

Holy hell. The PS4 lacking hurts bad on this one. Only $10 more than the regular game:

Preorder bonuses too:

"By pre-ordering MLB 15 The Show digitally on PlayStation Store or at various retailers, you will receive a free voucher for a DualShock 4 Skin for the MLB team of your choice from Skinit. Additionally, if you pre-order at GameStop — or EB Games, for those of you in Canada — you will receive the Skinit skin and six additional Bonus Item Packs for use in game."
Sounds like a major pass to me. $100 worth of themes. I assume the item packs are just different bats, gloves, etc? And the stubs are used in RTTS to upgrade your player.

That weekend your choices for wide release new movies were Paul Blart Mall Cop, My Blood Valentine remake, Hotel for Dogs, and Notorious (which opened on about 1/2 the screens so not in every city). If you HAD to see a new movie that weekend, which bullet would you rather get in the face? The weekend after that added the R rated Underworld Prequel and Inkheart, The weekend after that added Taken, The Uninvited, and New in Town. So it's probably more a product of it being the least shitty alternative in that two week time frame.

Dark Souls 2 on PS4:

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2015/02/05/hands-on-with-dark-souls-ii-ps4/#sf7290176

Nothing particularly new but they do say they've tweaked balance and gameplay to go along with 1080p, 60fps, and some graphical improvements.
I like this snippet from Destructoid's article:

With the increased number of foes, and different placement of them, I found myself having to effectively relearn aspects of areas I was quite familiar with. What's even more surprising was that the A.I. was not only improved, but the enemies of Dark Souls II had also lost their fear of Bonfire spots. They will have no qualms about chasing players down to their safe havens. To put it simply, you're more vulnerable in Scholar of the First Sin than in the original, which means you'll be using your hoards of lifegems far more often.

As any fan of the Souls series will tell, mastering your environment and knowing the limits of your enemies is everything. So it was especially interesting to see that Scholar of the First Sin pulls the rug from under the players. From Software has especially had fun in placing monsters in areas that were not present in the original game. For instance, elevators that lead to bosses or shortcuts now house enemies that lay in wait for the player.

Netflix. Then you can watch movies for a month at the cost of one ticket and buy a 6-pack of beer at the cost of one soda.

Ducking uncharted. I was going to start golden abyss at lunch today. But nope. Damn thing won't even start due to some error. So I had to delete it and will have to download at home tonight. Ugh

So basically more like the original Dark Souls where enemies would follow you back and cause the bonfire to dim so that you couldn't rest at it.

I also wonder if they REALLY added new enemies, or if they just bumped up the NG+ changes to NG and the author doesn't know the difference. In NG+ in Dark Souls 2 they added monsters in new locations (for instance, 2 pyromancers show up in a particular boss fight).

Need to take a rogue legacy break. Got all the spots on the castle unlocked (and played with the special class), at like level 75 or so and just beat Alexander. The ponce boss seems like a pain and the blob seems not too bad. I'm sure the other three remix (4?) will make me claw my eyes out as will the beat the game in 15 or fewer deaths. Still awesome though.

The floating fireball ain't too bad. He doesn't have any attacks so just run around in the biggest circle you can and hit him as he follows you. The blobs aren't too bad either if you don't kill everything too fast. Also, you can't really see too far below you so when you jump down a platform a blob will likely be waiting and jump up and hit you as soon as you land. Haven't tried the other remix bosses yet.

Next time I see that damn clown I'm gonna lock down the castle. Keep getting pretty close to beating the games, but I rarely see him.

.................. do you like that?

Do you seriously like that???
I like cheesy metal. I wouldn't listen to that whole album but having it pop up infrequently on shuffle can be fun.

These are also cheesy as hell and lots of fun:

And yes, the second is metal a capella. It's awesome.

A ~$1900 refund is still pretty nice.
Yup, I'm not complaining. But it's by choice, I claim 0 allowances on my W-4 to make sure I get a decent refund instead of worrying if I may have to pay.

EDIT: This should answer mitch's question.

What possible deductions could a single white male have to get $1900 back?
I got $10,500 back one year. That was the year with the crazy tax credits for buying a house, though. The next year I got another $4500 IIRC--put a chunk of the $10,500 into home energy improvements, which gave up to $1500 back, plus student stuff. These were both while single.

God of War III is considered the best in the series, right? So would it be better to play Ascension before that one despite being made later? I know a few people here suggested playing them in order of release, but I'd prefer to save the best for last when I eventually get back to the series.

Actually, I am shocked Tyler is getting that large of a refund. I would have expected him to manage his deductions better to not give the government that large of an interest free loan. I wish I could do that, but my wife for some reason wants a larger refund. I would rather write a check to them for $50 at the end of the year than have them write me one for a few thousand.

We actually weren't sure how we were going to do. We got married 12/13/13, so 2014 was our first year with the new tax situation. Plus her grandfather died so she inherited some money from that.

Though actually I can't recall if I ever changed my tax paperwork at work. I should check.  :whistle2:

3 was definitely the best to me. Ascension probably was a bit prettier graphically, but I assume you don't care about that. I do not think the gameplay changed enough between them to worry about things that were in Ascension but not in 3 being an issue.

I don't think any events from 3 are spoiled by Ascension since it was a prequel to the other stories. I am surprised you have not played either of those yet.

I'm good at being cheap but I suck at finance in general. I like having the fatty check at the beginning of the year. And I know if we ever need a boost in the ol check I can adjust (like before I take three months off work whenever we have a kid).

I've only played (i.e., finished but not yet platted) GoW1 HD on PS3 and started the Vita version, but I own every GoW. One of these days I'll start working through the whole series.

I assume you have your pay direct deposited? If so, why not have the bank just deduct the post tax dollars into another savings account at the same frequency you are paid. Try to forget that money is there unless you really need it. Then there is no modifying of the check needed and you will gain some (granted marginally from a basic bank account) from it being there. If at the end of the year you have found you don't need that money put it Roth IRA.

Plus, the tense on that have a kid line is shocking, are you actually going to have more?

Just don't try and save them all up for one God of War binge. I love the series, but that would get really old really quick.

I need to play the Vita ones myself. I need to check to see if all the trophy glitches it had were ever fixed though.

It'd be more worried about it if I could actually do anything with that money, but interest rates suck pretty bad. The ~$40 in interest/investment income I'm forgoing is worth it to me for a nice big lump sum at the start of the new year.

Gator is right that you should figure out what amount of exemptions to use so that you pay or receive as little as possible at the end of every year.  Then you have access to your money throughout the year instead of getting a lot back at the end.

Having said all that since rates have been so low and since my wife would spend whatever we have I took 0 exemptions the last few years .  With a kid and a house I got a lot more back than the piddly $2K Tyler is getting...

Also we dont have state income tax.  Some of you live in the antarctic and still have to pay the state?! BWAHAHAHAHAHA

I should probably adjust my W4 with the wife out of work for most of last year and this year probably, but I never know what I should mark it as. Last few years we got a good chunk back from federal, but paid in almost the same amount for state for a net profit of like $20 or something dum.
