If you mean quit playing it for the TiT, that's fine, but don't completely give up on it--at least beat the game once at your own pace.
I am probably done with it completely. It isnt fun anymore. I am level 51 and still die in one or two shots in any section outside of the regular castle. That isnt fun to me.

I'd like to work more on savings/retirement. We're okay to handle an emergency and have some retirement money set up, but it's not as good as it should be. Right now I've got the house, student loans, and a car that I'm working on. The house is 3.25%, the car 3%, and the loans 4.5% and 6.25%. All together it's a bit over $4k a year in interest, which doesn't make me happy. I've been overpaying on the student loans but I'm thinking I'll switch focus to the house since it's about $1k/year more and student loans are easier to suspend if I need to for some reason. I really do hate the student loans the most, though; they feel so worthless since they're not attached to anything material and are impossible to sell off.

I'd rather be working on 401k/Roth IRA but the return rate on those is less predictable and the debt I have large enough that the loan interest would eat up any retirement earnings.

If I were so lazy I'd use my gaming/leisure time for side work to knock this stuff out a lot faster. But I am lazy. :whistle2:
Student loans are the worst, its about the only debt you cant get rid of through a bankruptcy. We have house, car, and SL debt, so same as you. We had two paid for cars but then we got pregnant, she wanted an suv so we got a suv (convinced her to buy certified used one with 10k miles that was a dealer loaner car so got a decent deal) and the SLs are shit, I think we are at like 40-50k on those, I dont like to even think about them. My lowest one is paid off in like 7 more years though, woo hoo.

Combined we put right around 19 percent of our pay into 401k each month. Thats including company match.

Something interesting to look at is what the average is for people your age to have in a 401k.

The best thing to do (imo) is to focus on money. Don't worry about beating anything, just clear the castle every time, getting as much money as you can, then go into the forest and do your best there as well. I focused on the damage/defense/hp upgrades whenever possible. When I switched to that approach I was able to level up very quickly and that made a huge impact on how quickly and easily I could kill things and how well I could survive the fact that I wasn't that great at the game.

Once I leveled a bit more I found the game got to be much easier and much more satisfying.

More power to em if it's for the reason ign outlined, I don't mind speed up micro transactions (although you could obviously argue that they shouldn't put stupid grindy shit in the game in the first place necessitating said micro transactions). Getting koins for the krypt is obnoxious, especially when there's like 600 possible places to unlock and only a handful have things you care about.

I'm starting to lose a bit of interest in mkx now - the new characters were awesome and the revamps to raiden and kano were decent, but now it's starting to seem like some cut and paste action from mk9. Which is fine, I just liked the new stuff they were doing better.

Dealer loaners are just about the only way to get a deal on a used car anymore. Many people still believe the old adage about saving money by buying a used car. For the most part now, that really is not the case if you are looking for a low mileage car that is less than a few years old. With so many kick backs to dealers for new cars and the demand for used cars the price difference is so small between the 2 options used doesn't make a lot of sense. Of course if you are in the market for a old beater that would be different, but even those are more expensive than they used to be.

When I bought my car in 2010 I got a new model for 1200 more than the same car 3 years old with 45k miles on it would have cost me. It shocked the hell out of me.

pharm, I'm not going to try to convince you to play something you don't like, but therm is spot on. you have to pay some dues for a while and just get a bunch of stats up. I'm at level 80ish now and feel comfortable cruising around pretty much the whole map (even though I'm still a bit squishy).

The wife works for the state. They've got some weird thing where they match fixed amounts rather than a percentage, and they only match $50 per month, so that's what she does. IIRC I'm at 5%/2.5% match.

Probably we should get a Roth IRA going and start putting more aside there. We also have a CD we got from her grandfather that we need to figure out what to do with.

MK9 is definitely one of my favorite fighting games ever. It felt completely accessible to newb-ish people like me but was a ton of fun. The one thing that I remember being bummed about was that the Krypt was way too small. I think I bought everything in there way before I had my fill with the game. Remember how awesome the Krypt was in Deadly Alliance (I think that's the one). There were 676 things to unlock. While a lot of it was junk, there were also off the wall awesome things like "Cooking with Scorpion". I'm definitely looking forward to MKX, but I know it's not going to feel as great as 9 since it will be following the same formula as MK9 and Injustice. But I'm okay with that.

Awesome.

I actually saw Lets Fish and immediately thought of you. But I dont know anything about the games so I assumed it was whatever you already played

You also have to assume your house is expensive enough to not be better off claiming the standard deduction (which I think Tyler said he does) to count the tax savings on the mortgage interest. It is extremely unlikely, but not impossible that the government could make mortgage interest no longer tax deductible as well. I think we are the only country in the world where it is.
Yep, the Republicans slashed the top rate of income taxes and now my state's budget is in a mess and one of the ways they are considering fixing it is eliminating the state deduction on mortgages so if a Republican president is elected in 2016 I could see that scenario playing out at the federal level as well.

I started thinking last night that this whole 4forFeb thing is a clever rouse to get me to play less pinball.  I can't make any progress in Cirqus.

But I should wrap up GoW 3 story tonight though, so that's nice.  Have the fun time Labyrinth and all the after-stuff of that left only.

I think the fact that I've fallen asleep right after the kids are in bed the last 3 days is also a rouse to get me to play less pinball.

and instead of finishing the plat on Vanquish...

Well, my house just ran out of oil so I sure hope they come today.

They were supposed to come Monday, and didn't because it snowed. They don't deliver to my area on Tuesday and Wednesday, so they were coming yesterday, but it snowed again. They said they'll be here before noon today, so we'll see.

Yup. After getting almost half of the plats in that, things started to get too difficult for me to worry about getting the rest of them, so I just got all of the golds.
Yeah I'd guess I'm at about 50/50 between golds and plats, I'll figure out tonight if I want to go for all the plats. I still need to grind a bit more to get enough money for the last character. Do you know any good gold grinding levels off the top of your head?

Thanks to Timehop today for reminding me how much I freaked out on Facebook when the Packers won the Super Bowl four years ago today.  Man what a freak I was.

Now that I am playing the single player of Most Wanted I would say so far Burnout Paradise is far superior. There is very little variety in the events compared to Paradise, you are either racing in a circle of streets (circuit), racing in more or less a straight line (sprint), doing a glorified time trial (speed run) or escaping from the cops (ambush). The cops are annoying in the beginning because with no boost or a slow car they are very difficult to outrun and if you are busted your car is towed all the way back to its spawn point. This is not that annoying when the race starting point is close, but if its 4 or 5 miles away it can get pretty annoying (you can't start a race if the heat is on you).

Burnout Paradise had stunt events and road rage events to help break up the sameness of just racing. I would say the only reasons to pick Most Wanted over Paradise is if you REALLY like the escaping from cops aspect or you prefer driving licensed cars.

Damn TVs are getting cheap.  I cannot wait for the wife to move out.  I know the first purchase I will be making.

CAG is fixed!

Off the top of my head, no, but I mainly just used the Dunjun Guy character to his fullest extent with his Key of Death(TM) and tried to kill more snakes than other enemies. A few levels, as well as Chill Out Mode, give you a Coin Magnet ability, so you might want to find one of those and go crazy on snakes.

Yeah, Burnout Paradise is the best (most fun) racing game I have ever played.  I wish they would make a true sequel or even just remake it!  It would be sweet in full 1080p 60 fps HD.

I just cant make myself believe that Qbert will play worth a damn compared to the arcade cabinet with the 4 way stick angled at 45 degrees. Just like classic Pac-Man games always annoy me when playing with an analog controller instead of a 4 way. At least those you can use the D-pad, but that really isnt an option for this.

Oh wait. That's right. You guys blow a SHIT ton of money on "collectables" and thousands of video games you will never play.
That's why I laugh when everyone says I overpay by buying digital. I get that I lose out on the re-sell but...I only ever buy sale games (with a few minor exceptions from time to time which at most is $30) never really pay above $20 for anything. I no longer buy any collectibles, toys, dust collectors or shitty collector's editions etc. etc. If anything my spending has gone down drastically. Don't feel like I've missed out on anything. Plus now with GCU and the quick flip I have a digital and physical game arsenal.

Just saw a bank of America commercial where everyone has 40k in their checking accounts.
Everyone doesn't have at least that in their checking? What do you do if there is a PSN sale?

Just hold your controller akwardly at an angle. Problem solved
