Fedex surprised me with a Saturday delivery of my new graphics card.  I immediately went to swap it out and booted it up.  Booted into windows with no real resolution options, but downloaded the newest drivers, installed and reboot.

Greeted with "Please power down and connect the PCIe Power cable(s) for this graphics card."

More behind tag:
Hmn. Ok, maybe I didn't push the adapters all the way in or something.
20 minutes and 10 re-trys later I've disconnected all but my C drive from the power supply with no luck.

I had 2 6-pin connectors on the old card, but the new one has a 6 and an 8-pin. Now I'm unsure whether its the card, the supplied adapters or my power supply is too outdated (Antec Truepower trio 650w so it's well above the stated spec- but it is old).

I'm done with it for today, tomorrow I'll put it in my GFs computer (her power supply is newer and likely has the 6&8 pin connectors). So hopefully I'll find out if it's a faulty card to at least rule out one of the possibilities.

I get the feeling I'll have to be ordering a new power supply though. :wall:

Assuming you are trying to connect your two 6-pin connectors to the 6-pin and 8-pin connectors on the GPU and do not need the added wattage afforded by a PSU with an actual 8-pin connector, you can probably get by with an adapter like this.

that is a sign you need a new power supply. most modern high quality, and high wattage psu comes with 8-pin connectors,

@ Neuro - Thanks!  I'll order one of them tomorrow after trying the card in the gf's computer and eliminating the faulty card as an option.  The connectors/adapters they provided had me attaching the 2 6-pins to form the 8pin and  using 2 molex connectors to form a new 6 pin.  Edit: Screw it, ordered it now.

@ Mooby - I was pretty close at one point.

@YBX87 - Dude, your answers always seem to be throw money at the problem.  I don't have bags of money lying around. If I can solve the problem with a $7 cable for now I'd rather try that.

I finally broke down and bought a smart phone via TracFone.  What are good apps (not games) that most people use other than photo, bar scanning or gps?  Thank you

Well yeah. That's the biggest price cut on it to date AFAIK. Eventually (probably) it will go on sale 66% or more off on Nuuvem but who the hell knows when that will be and then you have to fuss with supposedly unsecure Hola and all that mess.

Also for those who don't have the base, there's talk of a GotY or whatever version soonish so should probably hold off there.

Is it an Android? iPhone? Windows Phone? I usually download Android apks on pie rat websites, move them to my SD card, and then install them on my phone to test them out. Moon+ Reader is great for reading books. That app has the Gutenberg database on it, so it makes it one step quicker than using Amazon Kindle because you can just download public domain books without having to "buy" the license on the website beforehand. Plato, Twain, Voltaire, Wells, and some Asimov are all on there for free. Barring that, Kindle is still a good option.

I don't know if T-Mobile it still doing the Gear promotion, but they were offering unlimited talk and text for $15 a month in 2G for Gear watches; the thing is, T-Mobile is GSM, so you just get a SIM card and can use it with your phone instead. And T-Mobile has unlimited streaming from Pandora.

I just switched phones recently. I had a Windows Phone and went with the Fire Phone after seeing the $190 promo where you get the GSM-unlocked phone with a year of Prime.

RE: Nuuvem - I really wish Condemned: Criminal Origins was a Steam key. It's barely a dollar.

I have Hola on my chrome browser but I only open/use Chrome for using Hola.  From what I can tell, Hola isn't active while Chrome is closed so I guess I'm not too worried about being part of a bot net for the five minutes once a month that I use it buying something from Brazil.

I bought an LG ultimate 2 - android phone.  I was tempted by the amazon fire phone promo but decided just to try the leap from what I was using to a "smartphone" while still being on tracfone.

Blade, l like your thinking with T-Mobile.  I end up paying roughly $10  a month using Tracfone service, but am trying to expand what I actually do with my phone other than texting, urgent calls and mp3 player at the gym.

Regarding Hola and VPNs thank you to the person that posted the link to tomshardware article.

Got to the scene where you find Ciri. Cried like a baby. I thought after you found Ciri you would kill the Wild Hunt and it's game over. Nope, this thing is till going. Wonder how long it takes to beat the main story compared to ES/Fallout games.

RE: Nuuvem - I really wish Condemned: Criminal Origins was a Steam key. It's barely a dollar.
Sega knows they'd lose a hell of a lot of money if they gave Nuuvem Steam keys for those games. Sonic and the Genesis / Dreamcast games are way too "valuable" to them. All their games seem to be locked to Brazilian IP addresses now, anyway.

hey, i am sorry. i always have the perception pc gamers are rich.

i didn't know there are people who game strictly only on pc, who are dirty poor peasants
Fun fact - real rich people (talking old money rich) are tight, frugal, cheap, stingy bastards. They keep their money the old fashioned way - they hoard it.

We're not frivolous enough in our spending to buy a little black unit that doesn't even display in 1080p, so why would we invest console peasant levels of money?

Don't listen to Mooby, he's trying to sabotage you.

A hammer won't yield enough force. Try a sledgehammer.
fucking amateurs, you need this.

The card is obviously not flat enough to fit in the slit thingy pixel sender, dumbasses.

We own like 2k-3k games. We're probably not paying full price at that volume no matter how much money we have.

Watched a full walkthrough of Hatred and it's only about two or three hours long.  75% off or bust.  And they'd have to add some kind of endless/survival mode.

EDIT:  You know what?  It's not worth the drama.  Never mind - I'll just utilize CAGs handy-dandy ignore feature and be done with it.

So tempted by the Mount & Blade collection. Must... wait... for... summer... sale...
You only need Warband. Anyway, I doubt the full collection gets much cheaper. Other than the recent Viking one (which is kind of crap), the rest have never gone below the 75% they are now.

how is the game, i saw some gameplay on youtube. it looks pretty fun.

If I offended you, sorry.

If I didn't, eh.
Whatever you said I didn't even see. After my initial post about it I just realized it wasn't worth it, did a quick edit and walked away. Sounds like I probably would have been offended, though, since you're apologizing. lol

Edit: Thinking more about possibilities here: I hope you aren't under the impression that anything I posted and later edited had anything to do with you. If so feel free to PM me and we'll straighten things out.

Watched Totalbiscuit first impression on Carmageddon: Reincarnation and I wasn't too impressed.  Look like bargain bin quality with clunky, floaty control and piss-poor performance/optimization.  The presentation was dated.. like watching an upscale PS2 game and the animation of the pedestrians was off putting that it breaks immersion. I wonder if most of the positive reviews are coming from fan boys with nostalgic rose-colored glasses.

Maybe we didn't have a good gory vehicular combat game on PC for so long that the PC crowd forgot what's like to have good shit like the classic, original Carmageddon.

Back to playing Twisted Metal for me

Warband is quite fun although it's sandbox-oriented. If you're looking for a strong narrative you won't find it. What makes it great are the large scale battles, fighting for a kingdom, or struggling to start your own. There are a lot of mods that polish up basic gameplay but it's still a bit rough. For $5, though, it's an amazing value in terms of hours per dollars.
