Warband is indeed the only M&B you'll ever need to play. To be honest, I think you don't need to play ANY M&B and think they're quite mediocre.

That said, it's like Sid Meier's Pirates only instead you're a medieval mercenary mans raising an army of medieval mens to fight in an endless array of pointless medieval wars with any of five factions of medieval mens. The swordfighting is simple as hell but it is directional and momentum based so it is interesting and definitely worth dicking around with but I tend to find literally every aspect beyond the basic combat to be really boring (Except taking a quest to gather taxes for another medieval man and then just keeping the money to build your own army and also conscripting his villagers into your army as well for kicks.).

So I take that back, it is worth playing but not beyond the initial "Wow this combat is interesting" phase.

Warband is quite fun although it's sandbox-oriented. If you're looking for a strong narrative you won't find it. What makes it great are the large scale battles, fighting for a kingdom, or struggling to start your own. There are a lot of mods that polish up basic gameplay but it's still a bit rough. For $5, though, it's an amazing value in terms of hours per dollars.

i was trying out the chivalry medieval free steam game for this weekend, how does warband compare to it?

how are the servers?

Chivalry has better combat but it's multiplayer only.  If you want sandbox/ability to conquer territory, etc. go with Warband.

You only need Warband. Anyway, I doubt the full collection gets much cheaper. Other than the recent Viking one (which is kind of crap), the rest have never gone below the 75% they are now.
This. The smart way to go is to simply buy Warband and download the Brytenwalda mod which is a superior version of the Viking invasion of the British Isles.

I was thinking "Pirates!" when I played it as well. Get a bunch of dudes, go beat up other dudes, get loot, find a town to sell your loot before you ran out of food, sell loot, buy food, recruit men, do it all over again. I suppose it changes up more once you get some permanent holdings. And I put 35,000 hours into Pirates! so I can't say that it's not a winning formula.

On the bright side, while the may be a decade behind Steam they're not Galaxy.

With all my games (console, steam/gog/whtever combined) I'm probably not even at 800 yet. Such a fake cag.
Oh god, I'm over 5k with consoles included. I thought about liquidating the more valuable titles like Skies of Arcadia and Chrono Trigger, but my girlfriend said no. She plays them more than I do cuz Asian. It's also probably a bonus that they are all crammed into a corner in our bedroom. I'm really good at stuffing a lot into a small area.

Maybe we didn't have a good gory vehicular combat game on PC for so long that the PC crowd forgot what's like to have good shit like the classic, original Carmageddon.

Back to playing Twisted Metal for me
Haven't watch the video yet (planning to but been in deep booze sleep the past couple nights). For the vehicular combat, what about that Road Rash remake? Haven't followed it (even forgot the name), so don't know if it's still being worked on or even any good but yeah.

Watched Totalbiscuit first impression on Carmageddon: Reincarnation and I wasn't too impressed. Look like bargain bin quality with clunky, floaty control and piss-poor performance/optimization. The presentation was dated.. like watching an upscale PS2 game and the animation of the pedestrians was off putting that it breaks immersion. I wonder if most of the positive reviews are coming from fan boys with nostalgic rose-colored glasses.

Damn, I thought they had fixed the performance recently.. but apparently they didn't. Maybe it should've stayed in early access.

i found the combat in chivalry a bit difficult to adjust to
It's definitely more challenging but it is 'deeper.' There are setting in Warband to make the combat a bit more approachable (not requiring directional guidance for blocking and such). Overall it's easier to pickup the combat in Warband.

had to do it

just finished The Witcher 3. I enjoyed the main story quite a bit, more than any ES/FO game. But for me, the side quest stuff felt a bit lacking, whereas Bethesda titles excel. Great game, but not one of those play more than once types. I'd rather play DA:I again, which I might.

Geez, it took long enough for UPLAY to add that feature...

Awesome @ having Skies of Arcadia and Chrono Trigger (don't own those).

Hell, and Chrono Cross too - have that on old PSX (last console I actually do own).

I'd love to see PC ports of all of those.

Of course, nobody's surprised that I just said that.

I think Chrono Cross would have to be completely re-done. They did a re-release of it on PSN for PS3/PSP/Vita a few years back and it hasn't aged well at all.

If it looks like shit on the PS3 it will look even worse on the PC.

have u tried the emulator? Just play your original disc with PSX emulator and you will see the difference (one of the main reason I sold my PSX, keep my old games and play through emulator now. VIVA PC master race)

I haven't, no. I don't even know if I still have the disc. Probably not. It was so long ago. I got excited when I found out it was on PSN and you could play it on PS3 so I bought it (digitally) when there was a sale then I ran it and I almost vomitted. I just couldn't play it. It's a pixel mess.

To be honest, I think those early transitional first 3D polygonal games have aged the worst. Even the sprite stuff that came before them has aged better. That stuff just looks 'indie' now but no one wants to play some hot ass mess big blocky pixelized game with a static background the feels like blockman walking on a painting.

Today's Booby of the Day is..

Ohhhh!!!! Who would have ever thought he likes smaller ones xD. Like we say on my land, it's not about the size of the hammer but the skill to use the clove :)

In conclussion: Let's make a CAG meeting on Bobby's House :p

It's official, Amazon PCDD has hit a new low.

For the first time ever, I've managed to accumulate $10 in Bing rewards without BingyBroing anything.

I did too and looked for something, anything, to spend it on just this morning. Couldn't find a damned thing on the PC side so I bought a $10 PSN card to use toward [customspoiler=a weeaboo potion mixing simulator]
DME8K5n.jpg
[/customspoiler] on PSN with a measley 30% off.

Don't judge.

Summer sale is like 12 days away. There's like a 100% chance that any sale you'll see, had seen in a 6 month radius of this post will have its price matched or be lower in 12 days.

TWELVE DAYS.

...why not just an iso? I mean, sure, pastry rodentia, but I believe technically using an emulator if you don't own the console in question (you're supposed to use your own BIOS) is also pastry rodentia, so...

That said, the PSX Squaresoft games really don't benefit much from the graphical enhancements of emulation. Pretty nearly the entire environment in most of those games is pre-rendered at 640x480 or whatever assbackwards resolution people were using back then.

That said, I do still really like the way those games look, even if the field models for some of them (*coughFF7cough*) look like ass. Most of them had a great aesthetic, and the pre-rendered backgrounds, still images or not, atually looked pretty good.

I'm planning on getting that one as soon as the Vita version hits 50% off, actually.

So too late, everybody's now judging you like crazy.

Believe it or not I think the Chrono Cross original internal resolution was actually 320p, which explains a lot.

I really despised that whole 'walking on a painting' trend in those 90s games and am well relieved it has gone the way of the dodo bird. That being said, the 'paintings' would at least be tolerable if they weren't in god damned 320p.

I remember hearing a number of years ago that Square actually didn't save the original high resolution artwork for those backgrounds in those games after they scanned them in at shitty low 90s console res and so they couldn't go back and rescan them at a higher resolution for PC ports (like FF7) and just had to bump them up digitally.

I haven't actually gotten around to playing the newer rererelease of FF7 PC so I don't know if they did anything to make those backgrounds look better or not but I kind of doubt it.

After using my otherwise useless Amazon bing points it came down to a little less than half off so that's close enough for me.

I'll be back in twelve days to complain when that thing i'm skipping at 75% off today shows up in the Steam sale for 70% off.

I skipped the DARK dlc and Outlast dlc during the Humble sale so I can buy them from Steam with gaben bux. I'm sure now that I've done that they'll be 66% off on steam.

in the emulator, the FMV is also scaled up and render in 1080P (i.e. FF7) and not the pixelated pre-rendered 480P FMV from the PC version. Hence, for the PC version, modders actually replace the pixelated one with the PSX one. Same goes for music (replace the shitty MIDI with PSX music)

and with FAA in the emulator, it's smooth out the fugly jagged edge, unlike the PS3 version

p.s. I backed up my BIOS and kept my original disc.. and I advised ppl to do the same

i thought they stopped updating that mod in favor of "selling" you the Viking expansion
Correct, and it's also true that Brytenwalda hasn't been updated in a long time but it's still a masterpiece of a mod. Same dev team, but instead of starting from Brytenwalda they started from scratch to make Viking Conquest making the two essentially different mods. As of right now Brytenwalda is better (and free) but that could change in the future.

Here's a Reddit thread of people who played both comparing the two:

SE didn't fix shit. Just reharsh and re-release FF7.

Look forward to mod the game like crazy. But once it got modded with 3rd party models, music and texture, it is a truly beautiful experience

I'll have to try that one out. I'm still playing Floris.

Who do I look like, MysterD?

I wanted to have it (Chrono Cross) digital tied to an account, you know the modern way of doing things so I don't have to worry about losing it or crap like that, and I naively assumed if they were re-releasing it for PS3 they would do it in such a way as to at least make it look presentable at modern resolutions.

Clearly I hoped for too much.

Of course. Leave it to other people to fix their shit.

I'll have to try it all modded out though. That sounds decent.

I don't know, maybe if Chrono Cross did come out for the PC some modders could make a silk purse out of that sow's ear. Who knows?
