i watched that video and Rashida Jones is a prude and hates men
Now I have to watch it, then see if tl;dr (teal deer) has pointed out how (likely) bullshit it is.

(sigh) I need to find money for some Stanley Cup tickets...

And on that note.. I'm sure I won't have Steam sale funds :(

Idlemaster still works for me... just haven't picked up a significant amount of games to idle.

I wonder if I can idle the new Nintendo bundle.. get me some good cards that way ;)
For Tampa Bay or? Because if it's Tampa I call B.S., the Canadians (and hockey elitists) told me no-one from the South/Southwest/West/etc. care about hockey!

Rashida Jones is stupid, too. She's part of the medium teaching inequality to kids.

Gender equality is inherent to us. When you're a baby, you don't give a fuck who has a dick or a vagina. You don't even know what those things are. You take baths with your parents or siblings and don't even feel embarrassed about being nude in front of males or females. As you grow up, you're taught that there's a difference between men and women and that idea is reiterated until it's ingrained in our subconsciousness. Pre-agriculturalist societies had equality based on nomadic co-dependency, and it wasn't until the domestication of wheat that civilizations developed in static locations with patriarchal societies. And that led to overpopulation.

She says feminism IS gender equality, but feminism implicitly debases men. The whole point of gender equality is to not acknowledge the difference between the sexes and think of us all as humans who can do anything just as well as someone else.

tl;dr I'm on another logic-based tirade, and I'm right so I won't bother replying to arguments

re: You Are Not The Hero

TL;DR - I had an idea for some half baked RPG Maker game, got 90K then squandered it all not having a damned plan and paying random idiots I never met halfway around the world who disappeared. Now I'm out of cash, so, uh, Early Access. But I promise it will still get done! Really. I swear.

2015 Dev Update #3 - Plans, Screenies, Streaming, Etc

en updated on the forum
Hello ladies and gents! As you know, our last update included our potential plans for a partial release in the near future. After charting our course through the next few months, I've come to a decision which I'll share with you during this update.

Rant #2

As you're all aware, I've been reluctant to hand off a set release date for the project. As an indie developer, I believed that release dates were the best way to sabotage a game. Too often we've seen amazing looking games in concept and theory only to be disappointed by a lackluster experience that looks and feels absolutely nothing like what was presented (Alien Isolation, Dragon Age 2 (damn you EA for that 1.5yr deadline!)). At the same time, there are obvious advantages to a deadline. Blizzard and Valve have both proven that time and patience (usually) equals amazing gaming experiences. Yet at the same time, release dates are important for all businesses. It stems off feature creep, provides (stressful) motivation to do things on time, and ensures something is actually released.

For an indie developer, time is of the essence despite our best intentions to make the best game we possibly can. We don't exactly have deep pockets. Because of our (relatively speaking) wildly successful KS campaign, I believed the budget would allow me to take a little more time to nurture the project. Of course as a new developer, I've already told you of the many situations I hadn't foreseen. In the last update I talked about how different it is to develop an RPG versus a platformer, shooter or sandbox game. Now I'd like to talk a little bit more about unforeseen time sinks.

I believe I've already mentioned to some of our backers about the overhead that I calculated added about 4-5 months of time to development. Constant contact with our backers, even if very enjoyable is a huge timesink. Keeping all of the data together for backer rewards, implementing rewards, ensuring everything is in order, and making sure everyone is satisfied is time consuming. Of course it's not true about all the rewards. If I had to do it again, I would definitely have charged more for sidequests.

Another thing I'd like to mention is the duration of the project so far. The Kickstarter campaign ended November of 2013, which was 18 months ago. It wasn't meant to stretch nearly a year past it's internal release date of September 2014. Although we have very loyal asset providers, not all of them have been able to stay on the project for this whole period. Many have come and gone, and I find myself realizing that correspondence between myself and my asset providers have taken up so much time meant for development.

In the indie development world, finding, engaging and keeping asset providers (contractors, teammates or partners) is a full time job. Turnover rate is worse than Walmart so having to find another artist, musician or programmer that can match the style, theme or experience respectively happens often, and even more so over the course of two years. Most if not all contractors are allowed to work on multiple projects at once to sustain themselves, and often they'll find a reason to leave over the course of a year. Up to now, I've worked with (approximately) 14 pixel artists, 5 programmers, 4 bust artists, 7 concept artists, and 1 musician (awesome Darren). I don't want to throw my teammates under the bus though. Darren, Steph, Drew have been with me since they joined the project.

All too often you hear about projects fizzling out of existence because the team has fallen apart. Whatever glue was used (money, passion, promises) to keep them together simply wasn't strong enough and the lead developer had to abandon it. For me, this is simply unacceptable.

For the sake of transparency, I'll share with my backers where their money has been spent, rounding up to the nearest 100th:

Kickstarter & Amazon Cut: $9,600
Uncle Sam's grubby hands: $23,000 (RIGHT? WTF!)
Operational Costs: $15,800 (hardware, travel expenses, online presence, tax help, backer rewards)
Development, Writing, PR: $15,000
Art, Music, Code: $18,600

Current Total: $82,000 +- $1,000

I've made sure to keep an amount of money available for the hard copies of the game to be shipped once complete, and I have contingency for emergencies. This leads us to my decision:

Steam Early Access

In our last update we expressed heavy interest in submitting our game to Steam's Early Access program. Many of you pointed out you would prefer to wait until the game is complete. Many hated it because the Early Access program is full of unfinished half-assed games. Some of you avoid Steam, so you cannot play the game. Many of you also loved the idea. It's a hard pill to swallow, and a harder one to admit, but we do need an influx of cash to keep going no matter how small. For those of you who do not use Steam, I'll be providing a DRM-free version of the game on your Humble Bundle accounts within the next few months. For those who believe this is a step towards oblivion, I want to reassure you. I don't have a reputation to uphold, but I do have a reputation to begin, and there is no way I'm going to be known as just another indie developer that sat on his laurels and cashed in on an incomplete game. I love this project too much, and my passion and determination, although tested, has never waned throughout development. I've said before that I've wanted to make this game since I was a child, and god dammit I'm going to finish it!

That being said, we're planning to release You Are Not The Hero to Steam's Early Access campaign this Monday, June 1st!

It will be sold at it's expected full price of $15.00 USD, although we may have a small sale at the beginning to boost awareness. I have yet to generate and send Steam keys to Humble Bundle, so it may take me a day or two, up to a week to get you your keys, depending on how complicated or convoluted the process is. I hope you'll show your support and help me spread the word!

She says feminism IS gender equality, but feminism implicitly debases men. The whole point of gender equality is to not acknowledge the difference between the sexes and think of us all as humans who can do anything just as well as someone else.
The stuff I've heard/watched about feminism (and it's bias stuff granted), makes it seem akin to conservative media in the "avoid contradictory opinions! They are ebil liars, only listen/watch/read these sites/people that agree with us!"

Also, shut up you oppressive shit lord, and check your privilege!

Element4l is 495 coins on Tremor. Was only ever in 1 expensive bundle so maybe they're trying to clear out remaining stock. 18 left as of this post.

Just wanted to give a heads up to all of my tremorbros

I'm sure there's some Tremor thread I couldn't find with minimal effort but Mechanic Escape is free for people who've earned at least 50 coins since this morning and have an account 3+ days old.

To redeem this game for 0 Tremor Coins you need to have earned 50 Tremor Coins from offers since May 30 5:40 am and your account should be 3 days old
850 left as of this posting.

I went to check on this, there was one copy left, so I frantically clicked and then the page said zero. New tremorbro Malkanbro got the last one. My minor disappointment was quickly replaced with immense pride. The tremorbro is strong in him.

Whoa, was just doing some games categorization in my Steam library and saw a checkbox for "hide these games in my library."  How long has that been there? Now they just need to make an easy way for me to select all 700 games in my permanent backlog...

fuck The Witcher 3, it made me play one of my backlog games and now I can't stop playing it! I think I need a therapist to help me get back to not playing games.

You know, I got this in an email the other day and very nearly successfully Gilby'ed it. Somehow seeing it just one more time has pushed me over the edge and I bought it. The Premium Edition even. :whee:

In my defense, it's the best legitimate pre-order for the game that I've seen and it's a definite day-one play for me.

Apparently someone thought that GMG Arkham Knight deal was hot poop enough to start a new thread. That and they never read ours .

It's WB though. They'll slash the price after a while and then eventually bundle too. I'm not too worried. I also don't have a ton of faith in them to do a season pass that has much in the way of actual story content and not just skins and challenge maps and crap.

So like, clicking the first one, and then shift clicking the last one?
Okay, I must admit I really hate myself for somehow never figuring this out. All this time I thought shift didn't work because I'd hold it down and then try to select multiple games with the arrow keys, which does nothing. So I ended up ctrl-clicking each game when I wanted to select multiple games. Wow I feel dumb...

(But I maintain I'm still not as dumb as whomever at Google replaced Picasa with Photos this week and made it impossible for me to change the order of pictures in my photo albums...argh!)

It's actually a little bit of all of that. The description:

This season pass for Batman: Arkham Knight delivers new content every month for 6 months, featuring new story missions, more supervillains invading Gotham City, new legendary Batmobiles, advanced challenge maps, alternative character skins, and new drivable race tracks.
So, six months = six DLC. My generous guess is:

  1. Story mission
  2. Story mission
  3. Batmobiles/tracks
  4. challenge maps
  5. character skins
  6. probably a repeat of cars/tracks or challenge maps
I did enjoy the challenge maps in the last two games, but I can't say I'm too excited about cars and tracks as I'm anticipating a rather half-baked track with poor car controls. I personally bought the premium because Batman. And Rocksteady, of course.

Dumbass.

Sonofabitch... Ubisoft just yanked the Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter games from Steam. I've been waiting for them to go on sale for a long time so I could grab them. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...

I have them on retail boxes, I just wanted them on Steam. :(

I'm missing GRAW1!!! Noooooo

So I just installed GOG Galaxy in preparation for my upcoming Witcher 3 code from my long-overdue video card upgrade.  Man does GOG  have a lot of work to do...  How could they even release a client at this point in time that doesn't include game auto-updating?  I mean what's the point?

I think you can set it to auto update games but there's an option to turn it off completely. I actually like that you can outright turn off auto update. Don't know how many times Steam auto updating has broken my mods/introduced new unplayable bugs with a new patch. Just recently Witcher 3 patch v1.04 runs terrible for me and I get crashes compared to 1.03 which was completely stable and it's basically impossible to downgrade the Steam version as far as I can tell.

edit: Even if I pirated the GOG version so I could downgrade properly, Witcher 3 saves are not compatible with older patches so I still would lose about 10 hours of progress..

1.04 broke quest XP for me, meaning i'm stuck at my current level until they patch the patch, which apparently won't be until Monday.

There are reasons patching is mandatory. As was mentioned, often saves won't work between versions. Also support is a nightmare when everyone is on different versions. It's better to have everyone on one page. Rather than letting people go back to outdated versions, which themselves clearly have problems or there wouldn't be a need for a patch, developers really need to test their patches better. And when the patches do have issues they need people to TELL THEM and not just turtle down with some old version and call it good.

ETA: I know CDP is trying to rush these patches out the door, but FWIW Bioware had actually been doing some pretty extensive patch beta testing with DAI. It of course delayed the official release of the patch significantly but there seemed to be a lot less complaints. If developers want to beta test patches for popular games I doubt they'd have a shortage of volunteers.

You realize all modern media, and almost all media throughout time, has the exact same philosophy, right?

When you put people in groups, they will actively persecute any opinion that doesn't match the group opinion: liberal, conservative, religious, atheist, console, PC, other console. This is just human nature.

And a large part of the reason I shoot anybody who steps on my property.

That's one click too many.
Maybe even two.

Which one? [/mysterd]

And they're gone from Uplay as well.

Shoot, wonder if any other Tom Clancy games are in danger of getting delisted.

Gamersgate still has GRAW for ten bucks. Tages, though and the activation key doesn't work on Uplay.
I have them on retail boxes. I'm pretty sure those versions only have Securom.

Edit: Though I believe later re-releases (the ones that came on CD case-sized paper boxes) had Tages added.
