Well, I wound up buying HF:R. Not 100% sure why except that I guess I was enjoying it, would continue playing it and figure what's the point of have triple-digit Steam wallet if I refuse to ever spend any of it.
I blame the ghost of Doom. And I don't say that to be a jerk, but I mean that sometimes when I miss out on something I wanted I compensate by buying other stuff I didn't necessarily want as bad. In my case, it's usually $50 of worthless mystery packs so you're not doing so bad.

You could be right. I waited too long to commit to that Doom sale and then, when I was finally ready, she was gone :whistle2:(

HF:R is my ill-conceived rebound.

Got an email from "Gregor Ebert" from Headup Games with a key for Safety First:

Dear Blade,
thank you for subscribing the Headup Games Newsletter. Today we not only have information for you but a little gift* as well: Your personal Steam key of Safety First!

So if you are in the mood for something "different", just grab your key below and a gamepad, and jump into madness:

Did you get the regular edition or the Freedom Fighter edition with the Season Pass?

Regular edition is a little cheaper on Amazon for the disc version right now... damn it Syntax now your disease is potentially spreading to others. Sifu bought it too, so it could be some sweet 3 player co-op, maybe 4 if Bah joins in.

Ha, never mind, soon as I went back to double check Amazon had raised the price back to $39.99.

And in general news:

Toxxik or however it is spelled just left Early Access and released a F2P version. Am going to test the F2P to see how easy it is to either host a game or all join the same game and might schedule a bro night for it.

Finally, I didn't really see anything worth buying in this week's weekly slop, anything I missed?

You ain't heard it from me but Shadykeyz has it for $27 for the Freedom Fighter edition.

I bought the DLC version 'cause it was only $3 more.

I think this is one of those times I'd feel guilty cdcheesing it when the publisher was nice enough to do a free weekend (even though I know free weekend aren't to be nice, but to generate more sales).

I was thinking about about buying it, but instead played it free during free weekend. Like piracy, but legal.

Will be buying Freedom Edition once DLC is out

I also noticed that (deadwish) completion achievement is 0.44% and now my second rarest achievement.

Steam won't let me post screenshots of HF:R now that my access was revoked. Lame!
I believe MysterD used all of the HF:R screenshot storage space.

On that subject, did Steam upgrade the screenshot storage space recently? I believe mine said 16 GB when I uploaded a shot of Grim Dawn (I feel like it was 2 GB before).

Reading the reviews, it sounds as though (free version) all you can do is quick-join games, not select servers or host matches.

So I finally got my PC back up and running. My motherboard came back on Friday, and then I find out my SSD also offed itself (It seems to be read only now, and it's only a little over a year old). So after a trip to MicroCenter and a reinstall of Windows on a new SSD, I am no longer wallowing in console gamer peasant stench.

So far I've played/beaten Epistory and played a bit of Rocket League Rumble.

It's $24 on Amazon DVG download section:

.

Yeah, I'm gonna wait til it drops more.

EDIT:

Whoops, nevermind - didn't see you made this post:

That's just the base game though. Freedom Fighter edition is $60. It was $29 on Steam and I wouldn't assume that you'll ever find the season pass for $5 by itself.

I bought it direct from Steam since I have ample Steam wallet.
Do we know anything about the DLC's coming in the Expansion Pass?

Are they SP only ? MP only?

Or will they be doing both SP + MP DLC's?

More Updates to The Steam Customer Review System

http://store.steampowered.com/news/24155/

An analysis of games across Steam shows that at least 160 titles have a substantially greater percentage of positive reviews by users that activated the product with a cd key, compared to customers that purchased the game directly on Steam. There are, of course, legitimate reasons why this could be true for a game: Some games have strong audiences off Steam, and some games have passionate early adopters or Kickstarter backers that are much more invested in the game.

But in many cases, the abuse is clear and obvious, such as duplicated and/or generated reviews in large batches, or reviews from accounts linked to the developer. In those cases, we've now taken action by banning the false reviews and will be ending business relationships with developers that continue violating our rules.
Wait... 160 games out of how many? Out of 200? Out of 2,000? Out of all of Steam? And how many were "clear and obvious" out of that 160? 90%? 50%? 10%?

Sounds more like wanting to consolidate under Steam's umbrella than a true systemic issue. I don't doubt that it has happened but the fact that it happened on some shit indie bundle trash game doesn't mean I want to exclude 3rd party purchaser reviews from major titles.

That's... stupid.

So because I buy my games off Steam, my reviews aren't as important? fuck off, Valve.

It seems like they could make the 3rd party review restriction a greenlight only restriction and it would work out well enough. As they chose to implement it, it seems more like a "we want more games to be steam exclusive" move than anything else.

That would require about 5 more minutes of thought vs what kind of donut GabeN wants to eat next. We all know what GabeN spent his time on.

I'm glad that Valve has chosen to divert their attention not to the things nobody cares about, like improving Steam sales, producing single player titles, or improving customer service so people can hear back in less than weeks-months, but by tweaking Steam Reviews. Fantastic to see a company in tune with their customers and focuses on the important issues and won't waste time on minor things nobody bats an eye about

It wouldn't be Valve system without having obvious exploits:

Family shared (as in you got game from family sharing) do count as "Product purchased directly from Steam", so you could use that for fake reviews for now. :p

So I have to use my alt account "Tebow marry Shillary", family-share Ark to it and then fire-bomb the game from there? More work but a man's gots to do what a man's gots to do!

Eh, I think it's fine.  Most people who get a game for free or dirt cheap are far more forgiving in a review than someone who paid near full price or horrible Steam sale prices.

First off, this is the Internet and you are WRONG, good sir!

Second, I believe you have employed the same statistical analysis Valve has when implementing this process (e.g. How GabeN felt after he ate that 25lb Napoleon in one sitting).

Conversely, someone who paid full price may be more likely to justify their terrible purchase by finding any redeeming feature versus someone with less attachment to their purchase.

But neither is really Valve's supposed reason here which is nominally to fight ratings fraud. Which is probably a realistic non-issue except in a vanishingly small handful of cases.

So, Steam product keys don't count towards Steam review score now?

Why not have a separate scores for 3rd party Steam keys & 1st party Steam purchases?

lol the new review system is going to piss off developers/publishers using the review system legitimately too, not just customers. Review scores help sales, and you need every bit of help to sell your game at launch. I imagine a lot of publishers will stop handing out press copies so freely after this, as I know many people read the review scores and not the reviews themselves. To me, this is more hilarious than annoying, I can't wait to see the shitstorm that's a result of this.

On the other hand, I like being able to see which publishers hand out press copies and which don't, you can semi-check this by using the new filter system (if the game has no steam key activation reviews) which is kind of cool.

As we all know ubisoft only gives steam keys for press/reviews for new games

Set to "All Languages", "Key Activations", "Negative Only" and you only get one.

Which makes it 95% positive based on just CD-keys / press copies.

While Steam purchases are at only 56% postive. That's quite a difference.

Edit: Also none of CD-keys reviews say Recieved for free, but game predates that feature, I think.

I wonder how much this is about the recent "No Man's Sky" review fire-bombing (and possibly Ark review fire-bombing?) than it is about Derpigal Herpicide inflating their poopy game reviews scores ...

THANK GOD GABEN SAVED US FROM DIGITAL HOMICIDE GAMEZ! U DA MAN!

On the other hand, out of 2,000+ reviews it's completely irrelevant. Even if 8 reviews would otherwise be poor (assuming the 56% spread)

I bet you're okay with whatever because you yourself create alternate accounts so you can multi-review stuff with scalding reviews like "Watch Dongs: it was alright, I guess"
