The fact that the company tried to punish him for having an opinion is sad. It's just as bad as the christian employers that see someone supporting LGBT rights and punish them. Two sides of the same coin where both left and right are really about censorship. 

Anyways, I don't let my political opinions dictate what I enjoy, because then I wouldn't be able to enjoy anything, so I totally have Yooka-Laylee pre-ordered and can't wait for it. I have even watched the Yooka-Laylee rap more than once! A snake in a hat what's up with that?

That's not how free speech works though. You're allowed your own opinion but inciting hate or making hate speeches does not protect you under the "freedom of speech" banner. I'm not calling your political beliefs into question, but it seems most people on the right seem to not understand the difference between the two.

BTW, I'm making all these claims based on Canada's Freedom of Speech and what I've read of the US version in a poli-sci class.

Freedom of speech is not the same thing as freedom of consequence from speech. How you conduct yourself in public can frequently impact your employment or people's willingness to do business with you. Playtonic exercised their own freedom of speech in saying they didn't want to be associated with him, and that was that.

Freedom of Speech doesn't apply to whatever you are referring to.

Freedom of Speech only applies to government suppression of speech.

I would suggest taking a high school civics class.

Freedom of speech doesn't protect someone from being fired for saying dumb shit, and doesn't apply to businesses, only to people and the press. Punishing someone for being pro-LGBT would probably fall under discrimination, and is PR suicide.

The JonTron situation reminds me much more of the Adam Orth situation from the early Xbone discussion. He said something stupid that upset people, and the company shit on him hard. He didn't get fired, he "resigned", but just listen to the statement they made about him.

I hope they get the performance issues worked out with Yooka Laylee. I've only heard bad things about the game starting with the questionable ethics of having gone back on a kickstarter goal to the lackluster frame rate on XBox One. I would imagine that fans will be reluctant to kickstart games by Playtonic if it really is as bad as reviewers are saying. I know I proceed with caution since Mighty No. 9 was so poor.
 
Actually, freedom of speech is a little different from the first amendment, which for some reason every post referred to. Freedom of speech would include being able to voice your opinion without any societal sanction. The 1st amendment which protects us from government oprression for our opinions, which for some reason most of us have adopted as the standard definition.

But yes, I've heard the argument that it's okay to punish people for an opinion, that it's not freedom from consequences. I'm not talking down on anyone for not really caring about consequences for opinions. I realize that it's the norm to punish people for having a different opinion now days.

I understand playtronics right to release an employee, and I am not against that, you can fire someone for sneezing the wrong way in the US. I wouldn't fire my employees for a personal opinion. I also don't think it was PR suicide when the Chik Fil A owner was donating to anti-lgbt charities, they pulled in record profits the next few days, lol.

Not at all. Society by nature is a series of norms that are implicitly and explicitly established collectively through a combination of tradition and our biological nature to align with the thinking of others in a close group. As a result the natural sanctioning by that group, whether it is a small or large scale group, of anything that is viewed as too far deviant from the collective is one of the most core foundations at the basis of society. So from time immemorial to the playgrounds of today you have always been free to say or do what you want and society has always reacted to either sanction that behavior or will shift to allow or exclude that behavior.

Persona 5 is fucking Golden. Everything I could have asked for in a sequel, outside of maybe coming out in a timely fashion. It's been 9 god damn years since the original.

Can't wait to play Persona 5 Golden on Switch and XBox One.

It's gonna go to another platform for sure. No exclusivity mention anywhere during its reveals and nothing on the art box. Whether that means the Switch or PC is the debate i suppose. The PS4 version is basically a PS3 port as it stands. Not expecting it on X1 thats just wishful thinking, but maybe the "golden' version would happen. Maybe.

Except when they've ported Persona games to a second platform it's always been to a Sony handheld. The SMT series as a whole, to the best of my knowledge, has only ever been on Sony and Nintendo platforms with the exception of Arena being on 360 as well. Can't see them doing a P5 port unless a new handheld comes out where they don't have to port it on to less powerful hardware. Atlus seems to be content mostly publishing games on those platforms and those sorts of games still primarily only come out on Sony and Nintendo platforms. The Xbox base is more diverse than it was but people who want those games are still primarily going Sony or have access to both anyway.

This is 100% correct. I was just stating my belief that people shouldn't be punished for stating their opinion. It doesn't bother me that others, and even society, feel different. I even said I support playtronics right to cut ties with JonTron, just that I believe it's the incorrect to do so.

There are other platforms for Megami Tensei. Android , Ios, Windows, PC Engine ( TG-16 ), Sega CD , Sega Game Gear , Sega Saturn and original Xbox. It does seem that Sony and Nintendo have a stranglehold on the franchise. But its not outside the realm of possibility. Unlikely but there is hope. Stranger things have happened.
