Please note:

  • You cannot currently buy any Xbox 360 content on xbox.com using your account balance, you can only use an active credit card or PayPal. To use your balance, you must make purchases on your console.  Unfortunately, even "purchasing" free content through the web site like trials requires an alternative method of payment tied to your account, though adding an empty MasterCard / Visa gift card that is registered for online purchases will work.  Xbox One games can be purchased on the web site with your account balance.
  • Some sales are intended for Gold subscribers only, as noted within each section.
On Xbox One, Gold trials of any length work for sales and Games with Gold.  You must be an active Gold subscriber (paid or trial) to play Games with Gold purchases.
  • On Xbox 360, you must have at least a 1 month Gold subscription for sales and Games with Gold.  Neither 48 hour trials, 14 day trials nor free weekends qualify.

[*]All known sales and information on sales should make their way into the OP. Major Nelson usually updates his blog with new sales information every Tuesday.
[*]ALL OFFERS ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE! No information within this thread can or should be construed as accurate (or still valid), therefore ...

I grabbed another $50 Xbox gift card from Kroger this morning since the BC sale is finally winding down. I will say one thing - I've spent more time with my 360 this past week than I have in years, and a lot of these XBLA games are more fun than people give them credit for. My Xbox One has been neglected, but I'll have to get back to Fallout 4 since I was finally making some progress on the story mode.

Here are your games this week. Click the title for a trailer, click the price for a purchase link, if available.

Get Even looks intriguing for a sale price down the line. Otherwise only in for Gwent this week. Had some friends stream it and I'll finally get to give it a shot myself.

More impressions from the current BC sale:

Aqua - A thinking man's twin stick shooter. The Waterworld setting (anyone remember that movie?) is different from other games in this genre. Very slow for this type of game. Ultimately, it's good for the $1.24 price, but I liked Gatling Gears better.

Haunted House - A basic top down survival horror game. Don't go in expecting Resident Evil. I played for 10 minutes and mainly ran around in the dark looking for matches and keys. Didn't kill anything. But it would've been great as a first survival horror game for kids.

Jetpac Refuelled - A great retro revival since the original Rare game was on the Spectrum (computer sold mainly in Europe). Already had it on Rare Replay, but the Xbox One controller kills my hands for these types of games. Definitely addictive. A high score chaser type game. Buy it if you don't own Rare Replay and just want it on the 360.

Centipede & Millipede - Another great retro remake. Both extreme and classic modes. Well worth a dollar during this sale.

Missile Command - See above. Ditto.

Ugly Americans - Based on a Comedy Central cartoon that I've never heard of. A twin stick shooter that looks like a side scrolling Streets of Rage. If I had ever seen the show, that might have helped, but I found it to be very boring after a few minutes.

Hexic 2 - This is the game that I wish that Puzzle Quest: Galactrix was. Jumped right in to play against the computer and lost, but it was fun. A hex based match 3 that plays out like a game of tug of war. Recommended.

Mad Tracks - A kart racing game based on momentum. Pressing and letting go of the right trigger is what moves the car. A lot of depth if you give it a chance. Graphics aren't going to win any awards, but it was fun for the price.

Just Portal Knights for me this week. Waiting for the Switch version of RiME. What about you guys?
Friday the 13th for me. Been waiting on that for a long time!

When going from X1 to 360 via BC, are you able to speak over headset between the two consoles? ie: One user on 360 wants to talk to XB1 user in party chat.

I've yet to mess with anything BC related, apart from a couple Halo Reach matchmaking games.

Hey guys, what's a game series that got better with each installment? IE not really debatable, clear cut better each installment.

Three game series come to my mind and two are on the X1

Witcher series

Persona series

Forza Horizon series

anything else?

I would really argue that Forza Horizon 1 is a better game than Horizon 2, 3 crushed it out the park no doubt, but man I didn't like a lot of things in Horizon 2.

I know everyone's talking about the 360 BC sale, but does anyone have any thoughts on Mirror's Edge Catalyst or Oddworld New 'n' Tasty? Both are $6.60 on the xbox one.

I know Mirror's Edge Catalyst received some lukewarm reviews, but I really enjoyed the feel and style of the first one.

And Oddworld looks interesting, but I am unfamiliar with that series.

Just get EA Access. Catalyst is included with it.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1377114 Halo MCC is receiving feedback?

4k patch for Scorpio and finally some new updates?

Way to re-open some wounds. I don't know if I can take this if true.

But if it's free Halo 3 anniversary updates and coming to PC I'm all for it.
I think it could be one of 3 options realistically.

>Scorpio patch of some kind, probably just 4K as the game is already 60 FPS in all modes.

>Some kind of Multiplayer refresh (I think this is unlikely as they restructured them right before Halo 5 launched, all that could really be feasible here is dropping more playlists so games are easier to find.)

>A $0 to $5 DLC of Reach's campaign. I don't think adding another multiplayer component to matchmaking is feasible but the ODST addition seemed pretty simple.

I don't think any version of Halo 3 Anniversary is happening or they wouldn't have outright said that it wasn't. All of Halo 3's maps are already in the MCC so there is nothing else to add.

A PC port of MCC feels unlikely at this point. The game still is bugging and multiplayer barely works

The only other semi-possible remaster related thing I could see is a $20ish stand-alone Reach HD, with multiplayer intact. I dont' know though with Reach now having a strong BC version. The benefit would be 1080/60.

I'd say overall Catalyst is worse than the original, but at $6 it'll probably be worth it if you like the original. The open world just wasn't a good fit for the series, at least in the way they implemented it. The more designed routes of the original game are just more fun than the scattershot design in 2, and the story is somehow worse than the original because none of the characters are likable. The game isn't terrible and has some cool ideas here and there, but it wasn't a great sequel and it probably killed the series for good since it bombed hard.

I can't really compare it to Oddworld. It's supposed to be a pretty good remaster so it's probably worth it if you're interested.

Lukewarm reviews go for things that come out at full price, most often $60. For fuck's sake, it's 1/10 the price now so give it a go.

Added a few more last night including;

Commanders Attack

Soltrio Solitaire

Domino Master

Gin Rummy

Capcom Arcade Cabinet, incase a dlc sale for this happens again.

Monday Night Combat

Aqua

Hardwood Spades

Just picked up:

Dark Void

& Flinthook after I redeemed my $5 Bing credit today.

I'm slowly adding the games everyday, spreading it out lol.

hmm,

Elder Scrolls (apart from ES:Online)

X-Com

Borderlands 1 & 2 (leaving out pre-sequel)

probably Deus Ex though I haven't finished Mankind Divided yet

You can, either using the ingame chat or the party chat, but you need to use the old 360 one opening the mini guide (view+menu buttons in case you didn't know how)

Could a person learn to play card games by playing the 360 games in the Hardwood card game series? I've never learned to play any card games in real life, but each of the games that are on sale seem to have gotten at least a "6" average review score. I didn't know if they include tutorials.

Haven't seen this mentioned, but looks like Ori ad The Blind Forest Definitive Edition is currently free for the next two days.

Although just in case, I apologize in advance to any Chilean miners out there.
I think it's only free if you bought the regular edition on Xbox One.

That's what was mentioned on SD.

So this may be known or old news. I own Ori and the Blind Forest. Just happened to look at the Definitive Edition and it said it was free for me for two more days. If anyone else has the vanilla version check to see if it is free also.

HEY!!! :D/

a tip for those playing Injustice 2, you can add gear to your AI loadout and then select it during the player select screen. It works in multiverse and the AI will play for you while leveling up and earning all rewards at the same time. You still have to press A at the end of every match, but it's a nice way to level up characters:

It's on my list to get, can you go into any detail? Can you compare it to R-Type?
Haven't played R-Type Dimensions, but based on older R-Type games this plays faster, but weapons feel underpowered, hitboxes are hard to figure, and death comes very quickly as a result - in unsatisfying ways. Don't care for the twin stick nature either. I'll probably still play a bit more of it, but with all the other shooters on offer it seems like I could have spent this money better.

That said: on its own how is R-Type?

R-Type Dimensions is worth the $2.49. It's difficult, but R-Type is supposed to be difficult.

Geez, there's just something about the final days of a sale that make me start buying shit like I gotta blank check.

Braid
Call of Juarez: Gunslinger
Dead Space 2&3
Earthworm Jim HD
Far Cry 3
Ghostbusters

I'm thinking about also getting MoH Airborne and Shadows of the Damned. Anybody recommend these?

I own both on disc and would have double-dipped and rebought both just to have them digitally if I hadn't bought the Midway Arcade compilation.

If I buy the defininite version of ori will I lose the original version? I've heard they have seperate achievement lists and don't want to void the original.

The multiverse is strange and confusing to me. Could you elaborate? How do I make the computer fight the computer and do I have to put gear on them?

Somewhat game related, it appears the Resident Evil film franchise is set to be rebooted. And the studio plans to make another six movies too. I just.....that's too early for me. Worse than the Spiderman reboots. I understand the RE movies brought in over a billion dollars(which is why they're bringing it back again), but damn. There's gonna be definite burnout. RE Final Chapter just came out in January!!!! Fat chance Milla is back too. Half the enjoyment for me was watching her kick ass

Earlier PSA Update

I can confirm that all the discs (except for Unplugged, I don't own that one so I can't test it, sorry) I posted earlier do work on your Xbone and let you download (you don't install them directly from the disc, so you will need to be connected to the internet) the appropriate BC titles on the disc. I can also confirm all 7 Lumines Live! DLCs can be installed on Xbone from the Qubed disc, even the delisted ones (the disc is seriously a steal at $5)

The games will be added to your queue when you pop in the disc if you choose to download the "update" it prompts you to. If not, they are accessible from the "Ready to Install" section.

No, you can't download a game from the disc and continue to play it without the disc being in there.

In addition to the previous list I posted, I decided to test two more XBLA collections I own. Here are the details:

Capcom Digital Collection ($15 at GameStop) has:

1942: Joint Strike [NOT BC]

Bionic Commando Rearmed 2

Final Fight: Double Impact

Flock!

Rocketmen: Axis of Evil & It Came From Uranus DLC [NOT BC]

Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix [NOT BC]

Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix [NOT BC]

Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 [NOT BC]

Namco Virtual Museum Arcade ($20 at GameStop) has:

Dig Dug

Galaga

Galaga Legions

Mr. Driller Online

Ms. Pac-Man

New Rally-X

Pac-Man

Pac-Man Championship Edition

Xevious [NOT BC]

None of the games from this collection are on sale, but I decided to test it for future reference

The only other XBLA collections I can think of are the Konami and Popcap ones (the only one of those I own is the PvZ disc that includes PvZ, Peggle and Zuma, but I honestly can't be bothered to test it, especially when 2 of the 3 games have been GWG). Zuma's Revenge has a disc release that includes Bejeweled 3 and Feeding Frenzy 2, fwiw.

Here's the old list if anybody wanted it reposted now that I've confirmed the discs work on Xbone.

Another PSA because why not.

Keep in mind that several of the BC titles on sale are on disc compilations (which are found relatively cheap pre-owned at GameStop)

Xbox Live Arcade Unplugged ($5 at GameStop) has:

Bejeweled 2

Geometry Wars 1

Hardwood Backgammon

Texas Hold 'em

Outpost Kaloki X [NOT BC]

Wik and the Fable of Souls [NOT BC]

Xbox Live Arcade Compilation ($5 for the double pack with SEGA Superstars Tennis at GameStop) has:

Boom Boom Rocket

Feeding Frenzy

Luxor 2

Pac-Man Championship Edition (Not on sale, but still BC)

Uno [NOT BC]

Xbox 360 Triple Pack ($10 at GameStop, you're probably better off just buying 'em separately digitally) has:

Limbo

'Splosion Man

Trials HD

Qubed ($5 at GameStop) has:

Every Extend Extra Extreme

Lumines Live! (and 7 of the DLCs, including 2 DLCs no longer available for purchase, the only DLC missing from the disc is the Booster Pack)

Rez HD [NOT BC]

I'd recommend grabbing Qubed, Xbox Arcade Unplugged and the Arcade Compilation/SEGA Superstars Tennis, in that order.

Bobby, not going to quote and try and edit on mobile. Do you know if the arcade discs work the same as on the 360, where you start the disc and download from there or can you go to "manage game" and download the games individually from there?
The arcade discs work the same as on 360. The "disc" doesn't have its own install, only the separate BC titles.

I know there was some discussion of issues with revoking licenses earlier in the thread, but I saw this on the actual Xbox website tonight:

Can I get a refund for a digital game?

No. You can’t return a digital game and receive a refund or credit.
So, did they change something until the "self service" program is ready? I thought before they even had a policy of one refund a year. Just a flat "no" seems odd.
