Anime & Manga Thread Vol. 2: Za Warudo!!!

Summet 18 anime to watch out for is

Cells at Work
High Score Girl
Grand Blue
Hanebado
Harukana Receive
Back Street Girls

YMMV on the Isekai shows. Will be watching them.
Oh those, which can I throw away due to dubious plot/T&A focus? :p

Yes, it is the Badminton anime.

Some Isekais can work. Knights and Magic is pretty good.

Of the upcoming Isekais, Arifureta, Tate no Yuusha, and Slime-san are my most looked forward to. Also, Overlord is technically an Isekai

Years ago I'd say an anime about badminton sounds lame. But I gave cycling, volleyball and ping pong a chance and they're all awesome. No reason why this can't be as fun.

A lot of those sounds interesting. I'll be coming back to these pages for reference once summer hits week 2.

I was watching The Joel McHale Show and they showed this:

Is Henkei Shoujo full of great moments like that?

Dat Darling in the Franxx ending lol
I got a few episodes in and I'm debating whether I should stick it out and keep watching. I just hear people talk about the show so much, some good, but mostly how ridiculous it is. I'm worried about wasting my precious time on a dumb show.

But it just seems like a show everyone is watching that I'm not.

The series overall is a waste of time with absolutely nothing happening in the majority of episodes.

Thank you. That's exactly what I needed to know.
It's definitely a very odd show. The first half is character development, but it's kind of weak and messed up. A lot of over sexualization in how they operate the mechs. It actually ended pretty well though and I was impressed given how it started. I wouldn't recommend the show to anyone though.

Speaking of odd shows: Pop Team Epic Episode 2.  Well ... I laughed a little more with the video game segments and the cut to the voice actor booth. The music wasn't bad either.

However, saying "Pop Team Epic" in different ways doesn't make me like the forced attempts at humor - which is what the majority of this show is. Fortunately, I can watch an episode of Heneki Shoujo to cheer me up (thanks for the feedback on it).

Meanwhile FLCL: Progressive is fine and My Hero Academia is still my favorite new anime of 2018 so far.

Just watched the first episode of the new season for Overlord. It was perfect....even though nothing really happened, it was more character building and just straight entertaining. Especially the last two ending scenes, lol! It would've been an awesome OVA for in between seasons honestly. I'll just keep hoping they steadily feeding us Overlord until we catch up.

Ep 1 of Overlord adapts a part of Volume 8.

Season 3 will adapt Volumes 7-9. Out of those 3, Volume 8 is the side story volume that takes place before Volume 7. Safe to assume they're going to do Volume 8 first then proceed to 7 and 9 right after.

I knew it was 7-9, but didn't realize 8 was kind of the Fumoffu of the series. I think that would be the right play, to do 8 first then dive into the heavy action parts. I'll still cross my fingers we'll get another season within a year.

Volume 7 and Volume 9 are going to be fun.

Definitely excited to see the Nazarick Tomb Exploration and War on the Plains animated.

Recently finished:
Comic Girls - Pretty funny cgdct about a group of high school mangaka girls.
Darling in the Franxx - Evangelion x Eureka Seven, though not as good as either. I enjoyed it.
Golden Kamuy - Ok watch. Focuses more on hunting and eating than the story of searching for gold. S2 airs later this year, so hopefully we get more story.
Hinamatsuri - Hilarious! Must watch.
Love Lab - Decently funny. Watch if bored.
SAO Alternative GGO - Fun side story. Good action. SAO fans should enjoy.
Yuki Yuna is a Hero - PMMM with a terrible backstory. I couldn't get myself to watch S2. Pass.

Yuki Yuna I thought was actually really good. It was just a bit of a head trip. What did you not like about it specifically?

Mmm, I'm going to guess that olengie is on the mark and they are doing volume 8 first. Feels like more world/character building type action. Let me know if it drifts away/we get near the end of that volume. I kind of like where things are going, really surprised they can fit 3 volumes into 13 episodes. Are the volumes really short?

Edit: Of course I'm talking about Overlord, go me for forgetting the entire subject in my post -_-

Yuki Yuna spoilers:
I didn't like the backstory that the whole universe has been taken over by some supreme being of alien, and only a little patch of Earth remains. Besides the whole universe turning into hell, how does a little patch of Earth support a modern civilization? Then there was that Evangelion-like organization that predicted 12 Angels Vertexes would come to destroy humanity. Not sure how they came up with that number, but they were off by about infinity. The way Shinju-sama stole parts of the girls piece by piece while also making them immortal was far crueler than anything Kyubey ever did. If you're going to destroy the girls to the point they can't even fight for you anymore, at least let them die.

I think PMMM did it so much better, especially in the backstory department.

Yeah those issues all get resolved eventually more or less. What is PMMM?

Planet With 1 - Okay, this was weird but enjoyable. I don't quite get the connection with giant mech cats and an inflatable UFO with human ears, nose, and hands with "Peas" written on it. I'll keep watching but I don't expect much from this.

Hanebado! 1-2 - Welp, not gonna lie, the first 30 seconds of Aragaki's tits sure got my attention. And don't think I didn't notice the camera focused on Aragaki's chest while she's playing. Pushing my male pig nature aside the animation was quite nice. Another sports anime I know I'm going to love with little to no knowledge about the actual sport.

How Not to Summon a Demon Lord 1-2 - What's the short term name for this anime? I'm not going to type out that stupid name every time. Anyways I'm a sucker for isekai so I enjoyed this generic, dumb, overly sexual, fun anime.

Of those 3, I watched the first episode of #1 and was done with it. Hanebado seems legit despite the boob fiesta they gave us initially. Hoping it progresses nicely over time, but looks like it's mostly solid character development going on. Of the new anime this season I've been able to tolerate/enjoy:

* Holmes of Kyoto (I almost typed "Holes" there, which would probably be a completely different anime)

* Hanebado!

* Harukana Receive

* Grand Blue (this show is ridiculous and actually entertaining so far, though I'm not sure how long it'll take for it to get old)

One show I haven't seen yet, but could be promising is Shichisei no Subaru. Anyone seen it and have any thoughts?

Holmes & Harukana are in my que. I'll get to those eventually.

But tonight I got Lupin, Gundam Build Drivers, Overlord and maybe Black Clover if I don't pass out.

I'd just go with "Demon Lord" for short. I was thinking about watching it, but I dunno. I know Overlord is technically a "gamer in another world" show too, but I'd much prefer a lot of these shows if the people were just the actual things their avatars represented.

I mean, couldn't the show have been done just as easily with him being an actual demon that hates couples/relationships?

Mmmm, I feel like everything about the plot has been given away in this new Stein's Gate. I'll still hold on for the ride, but it's pretty obvious at this point.

I'm 2 episodes behind, I plan to catch up tonight. I'm still lost as to why Rin is back to the alpha timeline. Is there some big hint coming up?

Who's Rin? Okarin? No, there's an episode you have to watch from the original series that's different than what actually happened. That explains this entire season/show lol.
In a nutshell, he couldn't handle the stress of failure and didn't fix things. He didn't get the magic d-mail that made him decide to try again in this version of the episode. So there you go, I doubt you'll get it covered any more than it already has in the episode.

Okarin is a combo of his last name Okabe and first name Rintaro, but yeah, the main guy. I'll wait till tomorrow to read your spoiler, but could you be talking about the extra episode at the end? I did re watch the original series before going into 0 so it's still all fresh.

Yeah spoiler is just talking about that episode you didn't see from the original series that sets up this season.

Mmmm....FMP: IV was great. They ended it with a very nostalgic song from the original series. They also made it sound dubious that we would see the rest....tell me they've already greenlit the rest of that series til the end. I don't want to be tortured for another decade or two.

The rumors were that the series was supposed to finish off the light novels, and that there is another 13 episodes coming to finish it off.

with all the production issues it's unknown when or even if this will still happen.
