Just keep in mind that just because the studio that made Concord only had ~150 employees, a lot more people than that worked on the game. The end credits run for well over an hour.

All I have to say is that chiptune track that plays during those end credits is badass. By far the best thing to come out of this abomination.

Not for nothing but regardless of one's personal feeling regarding DEI thinking anyone is spending $100 million on it (on a single game!) is utter madness that just makes you look ridiculous.
That part of the statement is what’s commonly referred to as a joke, the same way the assertion of being a million times more humble than someone else would be. I mean, even the gap between George Clooney and Mother Theresa is at most 1000x. If you are concerned about ridiculous numbers, said in jest, you are showing bias in just going after that one. That the number did not come across as an obvious joke, is a scary thought though, to think it would actually be plausible. The amount of grift involved would have to be uncharted to achieve that percentage.

I'm honestly curious as to what counts as "reports" these days. The amount of people who get off on making up pointless shit just for clicks/views/etc. that later make it into articles/news that also depend on clicks/views/etc. makes it hard to believe anything unless it's from an actual reputable starting point.

Did Sony lose a shit ton of money on Concord? Absolutely. But that $400m sounds iffy. I could believe the had a "$400m budget" (not $400m actually spent) if "budget" meant over the expected life of the game, as in to operate the game long-term, like 5-10 years, with continued development (new skins, characters, levels, etc) and marketing.

if you have to tell people it is a joke, it's not funny, and probably not even a joke. you guys can take your political shit and create another off topic playstation thread if you want otherwise shut the fuck up already.
Seems like people did get the joke though... It might be just you who needed the explanation? Not everyone finds the same thing funny and that is OKAY.

There's no doubt that the visual cinematic for this game is of the highest quality, then when you factor the cost of outsourcing, side projects animation and tv series. Concord was no small project, this was a big investment that gaming insiders estimated at least $300 million but journalists downplay it to $200 million. Now a credible person who was part of the project claimed it was $400 million.

I don't know who that is but what makes him an industry insider? Only thing I can tell from clicking on his Twitter for a minute (not watching a 9 min video for what's probably 2 min of actual content) is that he owns LastStandMedia so I'm guessing he needs those clicks I was talking about.

Also, who did he speak to? If Concord was as big of a clusfterfuck as it was: then as far as I know, it was the contractor who delivered the coffee beans for the Flavia Creation 600 machine that kept the developers awake and therefore this 'credible person' was part of the project. Bigger yet: for the many people that worked on Concord at Firewalk, I doubt anyone outside of the CEO and CFO (if they have one) there knew the trust cost of the game because Sony/PS were the ones that incurred the costs, and neither of those parties would want to talk about that with anyone because it's bad for Sony's image for investors and Firewalk's image for publisher support. There's zero reason for anyone that worked on Concord to know the cost of the game unless they were in the top end of the corporate ladder there (which isn't to say internal info doesn't get out to people within the company who have no reason to know said information).

I fully get major media people people (AP, CNN, IGN, Kotaku, etc.) also have their unnamed sources but they have less reason to be dishonest because they don't have to worry as much about clicks since they have wages/salaries, and many of them fact-check stories others post. Social media news is just people saying whatever gets them clout.

It's like shit on TikTok:
1. Someone does some dance that catches on (LOL Concord sucks/got shut down in 2 weeks)
2. Everyone else starts doing it (LOL Concord sucks/got shut down in 2 weeks, plz like/sub/follow) but interest wanes because it's the same shit
3. Someone then decides to do it with less clothing on (LOL Corcord sucks AND it lost $400m)
4. Everyone else starts doing it (LOL Corcord sucks AND it lost $400m, plz like/sub/follow/CashApp me)

This type of hype-journalism that's so heavily based on social media is just tiring and why I still stick around forums. Clicks don't matter here.

And to be clear: I'm not saying Concord lost $400m is not believable, it's possible even though I think it's very unlikely, but I just don't think we'll ever know for sure. And I am glad the game failed because I'm tired of line-of-service games.

Looks like an exaggerated post putting emphasis on wrong hiring that inflated the cost of spending in jest of revelation.
If it helps assuage any hurt feelings, the 5 examples I gave of inflated spending and the creative process being beat down to a pulp, had nothing to do with “wrong hiring” and I don’t feel that was implied in anyway. By most accounts a decent game was made, executives and consultants were paid millions to make the game appealing to their target market, or any market; they failed spectacularly in that regard. They got paid enough to be held accountable for that, and still have secured a lot of bag.

Concord sales, and reasons for its failure are a valid and interesting topic in a playstation thread, whatever the reasons. Had the thought to look up Battleborn’s budget and best I can tell, it was 50 million. It was much more successful, even though it ultimately failed, for possibly similar reasons? Character designs that were less appealing than its competitor IP. And not getting political, but I believe Randy Pitchford and Gearbox have been described in the past as “bad company and bad guy”, so DEI spending would likely be low, or at least perceived to be low. Yet it still failed for what I feel is most likely similar reasons, as a counterpoint if you don’t like the discourse that DEI is what killed Concord.

I haven't been here in a while so sorry of this is already asked somewhere or if my question is common knowledge but what's the situation with PS+ Essential subscriptions? Are there ever any deals on them any more or are we meant to just pay full price through Sony?

He used to be at IGN and Kinda Funny, but got kicked out for being an asshole and is just an idiot at this point. He's not a credible person.

What time will this PS5 Pro Limited Edition Bundle go up for sale on Thursday? Ill be at the Flea-market searching for deals on stuffs and probably miss out if im not careful - but it's gonna be a gone in 60 seconds thing most likely -

There will be a queue to get in so you have to get through that first. If you actually get in, then you have to deal with the site crashing while you try to add it to cart and check out. It's going to be a shit show. Yes, it will go live Thursday, they haven't given a set time yet.

You basically have to buy discounted psn currency to make your own deal.

Since we're on the subject of ps plus. I still have like 10 years worth of codes. Can sony void them? That worries me they stopped selling the cards. My current sub ends in 2029 so I really don't want to add any more right now.

Gone in 60 seconds...? LOL That's 60 seconds too long... the listing is gonna be "sold out" as soon as it goes live.

You still go to malls?
I laughed, but I actually still do. Half the time I go to get pants tailored, because all the other tailors are like, come 10 AM - 1 PM, Tues/Wed/Thur only. Ok, so take time off work to get my pants hemmed?

The other half is for niche stores, like Tokyo Japanese Lifestyle or Round1 or something.

20 upcoming PS5 and VR2 games...? So like.. 19 upcoming PS5 games and 1 PS5 game with VR2 support (Concord VR!!).

In all seriousness, I really hope they show some VR2 stuff. I want it, but I just can't justify it without some more games that I'll actually want to play or a massive price cut.

Sony could prob get a lot of goodwill by revealing Bloodborne 2 or a Bloodborne Remake... but I'm not too hopeful given Sony's recent track record. I'm guessing we'll see Wolverine and Horizon Remaster (which I'm excited to see, first one was my fave game on PS4, would love to see it with even better graphics).

This is a made up number, since the actual budget has not officially been disclosed, but best estimate I have found for Elden Rings budget is 200 million. If true, in theory, Sony could have had Two of what I consider the best and most impressive in its ambition and scope, recent release; for the cost of One Concord. Over 25 million sales, versus a few thousand playing a game for 11 days then being fully refunded. Axiom verge, a game made by one person, infinitely more successful, among any others, anything, in any form of media, ever. More successful. Just a bonkers way to think about it. We could have had bloodborne remake and bloodborne 2 by now.

Wonder if there is a money back guarantee if they can't get a console for you lol
Anyone who actually would purchase this deserves to lose there money. I don't expect them to go for more then $2,500 anyway. The 20th which is just as rare and looks just as nice never broke the $1,500 mark, even till this day.

Remake perhaps but I think a Bloodborne 2 is probably more up to From than Sony at this point.

FWIW I used to know someone relatively well placed in the game biz (was a higher up on the Shadow of Mordor games) and the belief in that company was that Bloodborne 2 was a go after Sekiro (they only let it slip as they thought it had been officially announced already) so either a lot of people in the game business were getting worked by a rumor (would not be the first or even hundredth time) or Elden Ring sort of changed the company's trajectory/required all of its resources.

LastStandMedia is one of the biggest (if not the biggest) gaming Patreons. Colin intentionally makes the titles of his Playstation podcasts esoterical because he doesn't really care about algorithms. So I doubt he's throwing a large number out there to be clickbait. The podcast that this clip comes from is called "The Relentless March of Progress" so I highly doubt that's popping up on people's YouTube feeds.

That said, it's clear from the clip that he only has one source giving him the $400m number. One source isn't enough to vette this kind of information, so we should all take it with a grain of salt. Either way, it's a huge flop for Sony and points to how dumb it was for them to buy the developer.

I fully get major media people people (AP, CNN, IGN, Kotaku, etc.) also have their unnamed sources but they have less reason to be dishonest because they don't have to worry as much about clicks since they have wages/salaries, and many of them fact-check stories others post.
Traffic is king for any site, so all of the ones you listed above definitely have a motive to use clickbait headlines. But many of them also don't do any of their own journalism anymore. They just regurgitate content from other sites.

I figure the event is going to highlight a few other games (recent, PS4?) that are going to be remastered and operate better on the PS5 Pro. The timing of this showcase is too convenient. Maybe they drop the price of the 30th anni model too, but they don't even have to announce that.

But no one cares about recent game remasters (Days' Gone, Horizon). I hope they come with a couple of exciting real game announcements. Or a real remaster that people have been begging for, like Bloodborne. Which at this point, would be a huge surprise.
People are tired of no new AAAA game announcements, and industry-pushed reveals that aren't exciting and don't really matter to them. Feels like we're working for them; watching their advertisements. These showcases are typically very lackluster.

Silent Hill 2 is retail released in two weeks; we don't need another teaser or commercial for it.
Think there's a chance we get something special today? something actually exciting? not some new Spider-man all-in-one bundle that nobody asked for?

Pretty decent games showcase. It does have me thinking about Playstation more, and guiding me into upgrading to a Pro.

Dragon Age: Veilguard could be pretty good, depending on its execution. Weird mix of cartoon-y + realism.

Lunar remastered and Fantasian Neo Dimension will be cool, for men of culture.

lottttttta souls-likes out there....which won't be games of any note. The chroma collection of console covers are pretty rad.

That was underwhelming, especially when it comes to first party output. The best parts for me were the Ghosts 2 announcement (the only first-party news really worth a damn, sorry Astro), the PS Plus announcement (FINALLY adding Dino Crisis, been waiting for over a year since they teased bringing it to Plus) and the Stellar Blade collab announcement. TMNT DLC would be on that list but was spoiled.
A lot of the other third-party stuff was ok, I don't have any complaints about anything shown (besides Veilguard) just wasn't particularly exciting. Maybe if I cared about PSVR2?
I wasn't expecting much but they are doing a terrible job selling the Pro.

Honestly pretty good show, I was expecting 0 games to interest me but quite a few have me interested. Lunar Remaster is easily the one I'm most looking forward to. Yotei looks awesome (might be the game that makes me want a Pro). HZD Remastered looks WAY better than I expected it to but I was honestly excited for that even before seeing it. Legacy of Kain Remastered was another surprised. Also glad to see Fantasian is actually being shown/not forgotten.

I'm actually surprised Sony remembers the Lunar games. If only Sony could remember the legend of dragoon game.

I'm more impressed that they somehow made nearly 25 year old, 240i resolution video into what looks fairly good in HD. I wonder if it was re-animated from scratch or something because there's no way the original videos still exist to this day and in any semi-decent modern resolution/quality.

Anyway since it's coming to XB, I doubt Sony is publishing it... but I wonder who is... I figured this game was in licensing hell but they even have the original PS1 intro song.
