GS FAQ

Where is the weekly ad?
They ended the weekly ad for more rotation of deals. Please check the homepage and deal link for the current deals.

I can't find a trade in value for an item?
It might not be tradable or calling a store to find the value may be the only option.

How many copies of a game can I trade in?
You are allowed to trade in 4 copies of the same game (same system) within a rolling 30 day period.

Are there trade limits?
Yes, $500 cash minus some electronic trade ins and or $2000 trade credit in a rolling 30 day period.

Can I use the $5 monthly coupon on gift cards?

Yes you can in store but not online please note not all gift cards will apply to this rule.

I have a $XX.xx pre-owned reward certificate, and I want to use it on a B2G1 transaction. Should I?
It depends. If the three games are equal value, do not use your certificate. The value of the certificate would be applied to the free game, which would not benefit you. If one game is more expensive, you can use the certificate to make it the same value as the other two games ($5 reward certificate applied to transaction with two $10 games and one $15 game would make all three games $10).

TERMINOLOGY AND LINGO:
ASL/SL: Assistant Store Leader, Store Leader; manager positions at GS.
B2G1: Buy two, get one free.
GS: GameStop
JD: Junior detective, an employee who is out to get someone
LP: Loss Prevention; this is the department that actually bans accounts after being flagged.
TC/TiC: Trade credit.
TIV/TV: Trade in value, or what a game currently trades for. When posting a TV for a game, always use the base value.

After previously being bummed I didn't get any of the good random surprise coupons this time around, I just noticed that some were sent to an old, formely pro-elite / now expired account I no longer use. That one got all 5? of the random offers, including the ones I wanted (+% on trades, preowned game discount). Just a heads up for anyone in a similar situation.

How is it possible there isn’t a single copy of Silent Hill 2 available in Los Angeles?
Are you basing this conclusion on what the website shows you? The accurate waywould be to ask a store employee to check surrounding stores in their system. You can also request a printout of available stores.

Because no one preordered it. With more digital games being sold than physical, publishers print discs as needed, and retailers only order as many as they expect to sell without inventory sitting around waiting around for markdown. Preorders are going to be even more important as other retailers like Best Buy look to dump physical media.
Guess I’m going all digital with the pro.

Traded in all my extra 3ds and controllers with the +$30 for console and +10% on accessories for a decent return (trade in credit only tho... Apparently the cash same as credit promo ended yesterday).

Regular 3DSes. They were $129 each with the +$30 and +$9 from Pro membership. Would've been $90 base. Keep in mind these are all store credit values and you need to trade in with a charger and stylus.

I couldn't be bothered with selling these on ebay or fb market myself anymore so this was a win for me. Not only that, I had one that was not working they they took with a refurbish fee of $28 so I only got $101 but that's still pretty good tbh.

As an aside, does anyone know if it's normal to not be taxed when using store credit purchase things from GameStop? I'm in NY and I've noticed that when I pay in full with my store credit, no tax is applied. It's only when I purchase things online, or make a partial payment with store credit that I get taxed (not only that, I get taxed for the original subtotal, not the difference).

My guess is that it is similar to when you purchase a car with a trade in. You would not get taxed on the trade in because the thought process is you already paid tax on that part.

So a $20,000 car if your trade in was worth 4,000, then you are only taxed on $16,000 of the car. (least that is how it works in Wisconsin, and I sold cars for a few years)

Ain't paying $69.99 plus tax when they ain't putting in the work to make physical discs.
I still do not understand why these digital store fronts don't sell the games cheaper digitally.

I would love to know the breakdown from a profit standpoint physical vs digital game.

I get there is something to be said for having your product out in the wild, but no one is randomly buying a system at $500 or a game at $70 because it looks pretty on the shelf.

Simple: people pay the price. They always have. If people hadn't, then maybe digital would be priced less, but people do.

Spider-Man 2 edition PS5 and Halo Infinite edition XSX do look pretty and shiny. Someone on Reddit went out of their way to collect ALL of the Fable variants so PAL, NTSC-J, etc. I know someone who does the exact same thing for Resident Evil 6 specifically. Am currently looking for Horizon Forbidden West PS4 without the Launch Edition title as well as Final Fantasy XV PS4 without the Day One Edition title. There is personal value in collecting physical.

I usually am of the mindset that I will wait for physical copy (and will even skip games that are digital only (even if I enjoyed the first game in the case of sequels). I did ignore this for Baldur's Gate 3. Son is in the Navy and we play online when possible. Good times and Good memories, so glad didn't wait for that one.

Also PSA to those old enough to remember this. EGM started a Kickstarter (see link below)

Bilbil-kun has leaked the Black Friday PS5 deal. It's going to be a Fortnite bundle priced at $425 for the PS5 with disc drive, $375 for digital.
The Fortnite bundle is super disappointing but the price is decent. Thank you for posting that link.

I always end up trading towards new consoles but this time around, neither company(Sony & Microsoft) are doing anything interesting. Current hardware still does a fine job and is less expensive. Using my wallet power to avoid the trap

Here’s a crazy one. And of course GameStop phone customer support is atrocious, as most companies are today.

i ordered metaphor collectors edition for PS5, shipped from GameStop.com. It arrived with padding and in a large box, NOT damaged from shipping. Well guess what was damaged…. the actual game itself. How so? Some employee intentionally took a box cutter and slashed about 15cm through the game CE itself. Probably happened from opening the manufacturer shipping box to their warehouse.

I contacted support who told me to just return it if I don’t want it. I asked for an exchange and they essentially told me to go F myself or go to a store location and have them fix it. I insisted a store has nothing to do with this as it’s a shipping issue yet it fell on deaf ears.

Any confirmation that B2G1F has officially started today?

Edit: Just checked online, only for PS4 and XB1 games; XB1 with XSX smart delivery are not included sadly but PS4 games with free upgrade to PS5 are lol.

Correction: Some XB1 games that are labeled as XSX (i.e. Stranger of Paradise and Elden Ring), are not eligible for B2G1F. Other XB1 games with XSX smart delivery (i.e. Fenyx Rising and Scarlet Nexus) are eligible for B2G1F. GS shenanigans.

i think they looked too soon at the new deals, that banner is gone. and it was up all last week and someone mentioned it wasn't even active last week.
That’s exactly what I did, I always assume they are updated by 5am eastern time, I won’t assume again, know what that does.

PS5s too. If that's in-store too, it probably won't last beyond today, and employees may get notice from corporate not to trade them for that value. I expect someone will be asking about it on the GS subreddit before long.

When you click the actual picture it goes back to the normal value. I mean, good luck to anyone that tries to go for it, but yea...

Any games worth flipping with this promotion?

Well went away for 10 days on vacay and came back to 1 of the 2 local stores closing.

Richmond, CA store had their sign being taken down today. Didn't stop in but assume it's closed now.

I have one store within a 30 minute drive and it's about to have a mutiny soon. The store manager who has worked there for years is quitting, and most of the staff with them too.

I'm seeing a number of mentions of stores closing with somewhat short notice this month. I imagine it's leases expiring. One store in MN in West St Paul closed earlier this month. I find it interesting since it was one of the retro designated stores.

Last of the Oakland location closed down at Fruitvale also. I'm actually surprised that it lasted this long, considering all the break-ins that had happened there.

Hoping that the San Pablo and, to a lesser degree, the Emeryville locations stay open. Although without Pro, my days of stopping in frequently are gone.

I was surprised that the Richmond store closed. They are in the same lot as a Target and always seemed to have foot traffic.
