Just a follow up since the plate situation angered you. I knew close to launch we would get more context with true comparisons. The tops plates on Pro are actually slightly larger. They are not the same size as the Slim covers. The PS5 Pro has a different chassis to accommodate the new fan and vents. That's seem like the reason new plates are needed. Hope that helps.

6:34 for the comparison.

Meh, It's still something they could have accommodated and they chose not to.

I'm reading reviews on the Pro and frankly I'm just getting a little bit irritated. because they are now delivering with the Pro what we were supposed to be getting originally with the 2020 PS5 hardware release. 4K resolution, 60 frames per second, and High Refresh Rate options, along with HDR. Like that's nice that these new machines are step up from the original, and that they do better ray tracing and some machine learning. But now instead, developers are able to make "Pro enhanced" versions of their games in order to make them shine, instead of best-optimizing their games for the original hardware.

Ya know the PS4 Pro did 4K 30fps long ago...

So we are having to buy a new machine....to get much of what the original PS5 was supposed to deliver to us back in 2020. You know, that old stuff about how the higher performance from the XBSX "didn't really matter" ? I find that fairly annoying. They're selling us new, very expensive, machines again in order to deliver on a previous promise of graphical fidelity. While we have been subsidizing the increased costs all along the way.

Sure, I'd still like to have one. But that's not really the point.

This is what worries me about staying on base PS5 that they will shift attention more to Pro and the base model will suffer. They need to optimize for the base PS5 and still give use 60FPS performance modes at least and then give pro the nicer looking modes. If we start getting 30fps only games for the base model I'll be extremely disappointed. This gen was suppose to be the 60fps gen and they need to stick to it.

I would say that largely depends on how the Pro sells. Given the high cost and that the install base for the regular PS5 is apparently 60 million, I would not be surprised if there is a bit of an initial push/focus on the Pro that quickly becomes "eh, just mash the performance and quality modes together and call it a day" if 90% of the market ain't gonna bite.

I doubt it. Don’t think a lot of people are going to jump at this for $900 all in for disc version.

I mean I am.…

That's not gonna happen bruh, its still a ps5 they gonna focus on base. The base is still gonna have quality mode and a performance mode. Pro is just gonna have quality mode at 60fps aka pro mode with RT maybe if you get what im saying. What you worrying about is when the ps6 comes out.

Short version ps5 pro pro mode is the ps5 quality mode but at 60

Hopefully because the way SONY has been has me worried. As long we keep getting 60fps mode on base PS5 I'll be happy. You bump us down to 30fps only and a lot of people are going to complain.

just got the pro and I noticed right away that there's no usb a at the front. that's where I usually insert the dongle for my ps earbuds so I had to move it to the back. Now I have nowhere to insert the ps camera. I used the one in the rear for external storage

Could just get a USB C to A dongle, I think they're pretty cheap. Or maybe use a splitter for the back if splitters work with PS5 stuff, then the front will remain clean/dongle-less.

I did too, but I bought the stand and drive way before the Pro released and then 5% off at Target on the Pro...my mind separates all those and doesn't think of the total 🙃

As far as enjoying, by the time chores were done, dogs walked, kids in bed, and everything connected (drive, stand, ssd card) it was bedtime for me...i'll let you know

the funny part is when I first removed the plates I had the PS5 Pro on the wrong side and jsut stared like "what the hell is this" lol

These will be < $599 by Feb. (but then otth you will also have new tariffs to enjoy.)

Or wait until Switch 2 for massive price drops across the whole lineup.

no one is even talking about it this morning, nor lining up to buy these things. The biggest day in unit sales they will ever have.

I had a $396 Best Buy credit, and then I sold my old PS5 to PlayStation direct for $300. So all in all im out like $150 bucks for a more powerful PS5 with a disc drive.

No brainer

To be honest I’m not sure I’d pay $150 for this Xbox hueg eyesore even without wasting credit and selling an old console.

I mean, it’d be $150 for my first 9th gen console, so probably? But it’s still so ugly. And big.

Had about $600 in gamestop credit I had been saving for switch 2 launch, but said screw it. Took the disc drive from my PS5 slim and will now be able to get some credit trading that in. Currently looking at $300 at gamestop but debating hanging on to it to see if values go up, but might be just down from here so not sure what to do yet. Whatever I get from the slim will go towards the switch 2.

The reviews of PS5 Pro should really set the tone for how completely unnecessary it is, especially given the price. It offers nothing by way of genuine leap the way PS4 Pro did with 4k. They even took 8k off all packaging because it's not a selling point and never was. They're still supporting last gen this deep into the lifecycle and think nothing of asking $700 for higher framerates. They also failed to identify clearly to consumers what is enhanced by rubber-stamping "PS5 Pro enhanced" all over the place. People are not going to pull up a spreadsheet each time they're shopping for a game.

Or perhaps that's the reason itself: they once again, didn't have much to show for it.

Sold my Series X a couple weeks ago, that I used a total of 2 times, to an old friend for $350. Ran into him at Target buying a brand new one, and he wanted mine instead to save himself $200. Plus mine was literally new.

Can you swap the SSD from the PS5 to the Pro right away or would you need to transfer it?
if you're talking about the m.2 expansion ssd slot, I just removed it and placed it into the pro no problems. Just found out you could transfer stuff too through transfer data in the settings via lan cable. I should've done that firs but no big deal

At the end of the day its for people that want extra power aka hardcore players that actually knows what up. As well as its an option so congratulations you have to buy it. Its time to move from the negative price point and its not worth talk thats been going for months.

Literally sold out at every GameStop, target and best buy in my area.

I can't believe people are"waiting" for the switch 2? Steam Deck made anything Nintendo dreams up irrelevant. I grew up with Sega and not playing all the Mario/Zelda.. I'll be fine now. It was a nice little dance for a few years lol

I am someone waiting for Switch 2, as long as it has a competitive price point. With backwards compatibility being confirmed, it means everything I own should play on it. Steam Deck is a great system (I use mine almost daily), but it does not replace a Nintendo console at all imo. I have a feeling the Switch 2 announcement will break the internet.
