I have been looking to add some party games to the collection for family game night.

Right now, Runbow and Ultimate Chicken Horse are at or near their lowest price. Question for any one with prior experience with either game, how challenging are they? Are there sharp spikes in challenge as you progress?

I’ve watched videos and the platforming for both looks a bit tricky at times. My youngest is 6 years old and is actually decent at Mario 3D World and Rayman Legends. The benefit with those is I am able to keep his frustrations to a minimum because I can get us through the tougher segments and he can pop back in whenever he feels ready.

I know Runbow and UCH are party platformers which are probably more competitive and chaotic by design. Generally, I think he’d be okay with those aspects. Difficulty and navigating the levels are my main concerns however.

Not on the cheap side, but for two player stuff I feel like Yoshi's Crafted world might be a solid pick since the second player I think can shoot at stuff in the background. I think Mario Odyssey has something like this as well.

To clarify, I’m looking at Runbow and UCH with 3-4 players in mind. I should have explained that better, sorry. My older daughter normally plays with us and my wife will join in on occasion.

I got Yoshi’s Crafted World for his birthday last year. He enjoyed it then and we’ll still play it from time to time. But it doesn’t hold his interest like others in our collection. We have Odyssey too but we want to finish up 3D world before starting another Mario.

I used to play Runbow on WiiU with up to 6 people, and it was a blast party game. There's some challenge in the single player stages, but for multiplayer, it all depends on who you're playing with/against. The stages are pretty straightforward.

An update to Pokemon Home makes a couple shiny Pokemon available if you've completed some regional Pokedexes in Home. A shiny Enamorus is awarded for completing the Hisui Dex from Legends: Arceus and a shiny Manaphy is awarded for completing the Sinnoh Dex from either Brilliant Diamond or Shining Pearl. This follows the awarding of shiny Meloetta for completing the Paldea, Kitakami and Blueberry Pokedexes in Home from Scarlet / Violet and their DLCs.

This is the first time shiny Enamorus is available legitimately. Shiny Manaphy was possible through the eggs received from the DS Ranger games, if the eggs were then traded to another game with IDs that were shiny compatible with the egg.

A reason to go back to Legends Arceus? I mean, I'm not mad

I had almost everything in arceus but stupid shieldon. It never spawned and I tried farming for it even. in the dumb cloud dome rng areas but nothing. I'm still po'd about it and the dumb buizel size thing which I also was unable to complete.

So we have to transfer every single Pokemon from each game into Home? I'm pretty sure I completed Arceus... but I'm not doing that🤣

Yeah, you can mass transfer (or if you have the basic plan, it's 30 at a time). The pain comes from having to go back and catch the earlier evolutions, since I wasn't keeping a living dex at the time. Still, it was fun to revisit that game. Brilliant Diamond was... less enjoyable.

How is Mario Golf Super Rush? I have some leftovers on a Best Buy gc that could make this worthwhile digitally.
Horrible. I could not get rid of it fast enough from either a single or multiplayer standpoint. I'm not sure who thought speed golf was a good idea. I just wanted N64 or 3DS Mario Golf with better graphics.

Unrelated, is there anywhere I can beat the GameStop Pro or Target Red Card discounts for a Family Expansion Pass code?

You don’t have to pay using an expansion pass code, regular eshop credit can be used as well. Costco has that 10% off. I use my eshop balance to pay for mine each year.

I’m attempting to three star the flower cup on 200cc in MK8. I’m using the same build I used for 150cc and to three star the Mushroom cup on 200cc, which isn’t a meta build.

Convince me 200cc Twisted Mansion against all computer players isn’t pure bullshit RNG. You can’t.

I haven't really hard core played a Mario Kart since the gamecube one I think. I really should get around to those. I did dabble in wii but it was too easy with the bikes and Gamecube controller to run circles around others. And iirc that one had fewer stuff. Granted gc double dash spoiled us with all the courses and then mirror courses on top of that and having access to character specific items.

Capcom Fighting Collection 2 will be out May 16:

Onimusha 2 remaster is coming later this year:

I finished the DLC Future Redeemed for Xenoblade 3. That had to rank as one of the best DLC's I have ever played.

Bring on Xenoblade X next month. :p

and Nintendo, if you wouldn't mind can you please shadow drop Metroid Prime 2 & 3 this month to setup Metroid Prime 4
The previous DLC for XC3 I thought was pointless so I did not really pay attention to when FR came out. When I finally decided to play it I felt the same way as you. Amazing, and off the top of my head I cannot think of any DLC that was better either.

Oh, that's good. So it was better than Torna? I loved pretty much everything about Torna and thought it was one of the best DLC's.

IMHO yes as I played and finished Torna and also enjoyed.

Future Redeemed was just next level for me as it connected XC1 & XC2 along with XC3. At times it felt like I was playing XC4 but it was just DLC

Can't wait to see what Monolith Soft can do on Switch 2 hardware for the next Xeno game.

Given that they could do og Xenoblade on the wii (and supposedly it runs on the 3ds though I have no idea how) they definitely have the chops for it. Personally I'm fine with them just refining what they have.

Maybe add in some xenogears shevat gundam arena battle type stuff. As that was fun imo. And I don't think I've played a game with anything similar off hand. But those probably exist in different genres.

With the recent talk about Xenoblade Chronicles, I just have to ask:

What exactly is the deal with the loot always flying out of chests or out of monsters and usually getting lost? The loot either flies off a cliff or loot drops when fighting a monster and it disappears DURING the fight.

I don't remember it being as bad in XC1, but I couldn't get into the game and finish it. I have been playing XC2 now for well over a 100 hours and that is driving me crazy. Why did they design it this way? Is there some ability or setting to prevent this? I know some of the shop deeds can increase your loot pickup range, but it's not by much (so far).

Please tell me it's better in XBC3, that is in my backlog as well.

It's a throwback to Zelda 1 when you're trying to get rupees for the blue ring and you kill a tektite but it's in the mountain and you're like 2 pixels too far away to get it with your sword and it's a blue rupee so it's really frustrating but fantastic nostalgia bait

It still does it as it happened a few times while I was playing the DLC Future Redeemed. Two times it really stood out as it went right to a cut scene. I assume the items get added but agree they should fix that.

There's a demo out now for Donkey Kong Country Returns HD:

Curious if sales might be pretty poor for the HD remaster due to it being priced at $60 that Nintendo then comes out with a demo a few weeks after it released.

This title should have been a $40 title considering it is the third time being released. Add to it that it was a Nintendo Selects title on the Wii and 3DS for $20.

I know I'm waiting for DKR to be around $20ish....probably would bite at $30. I own the 3DS version, so this isn't a high priority for me at all. I don't think it's selling well though.

I got it for $40 with best buy B2G1 with membership. It's still in the shrink wrap. I doubt it's selling well. They seemed to try to hype it up a little bit, but at $60 it's hard to get excited about a Wii era port.

With Warioland 4 announcement, I'd like to see a physical version of Warioland Gameboy-Gba Collection on Switch..

and I think if I read or watched a review for Donkey Kong Country Returns HD that it has some issues with quality like details missing like Donkey Kong's fur in single player mode.. or shadows & textures not as the original. Kinda sucks since I got it recently & didn't think about it having probs- whoops

I adapted very quickly to luring monsters away from ledges and pits. In XC1 I think this happened less often because a lot of the areas had multiple levels where you could just drop down and get something... vs it just being gone. Where as XC2 the locations had more ledges that just fell off into the clouds due to how the areas were broken up and it was more clear you were in the sky on the back of a big beast. I don't remember too much just disappearing during a fight. Do you have the games fully up to date?

Yeah I did make sure the game is up to date.

Pulling the monsters away from ledges is hit or miss. Other party members sometimes pull aggro so that we kind of have a tug of war going with the monsters, haha.

You can do a lot to manipulate Aggro by how you equip characters. Tanks get items to build aggro faster and healers you want to use items that reduce aggro. That way you don't really have to manage that. Also I liked whatever character I was focused on to maybe take a little extra aggro as well as I could more easily handle what maybe the AI would struggle with. The whole battle system in these games is pretty simple at first but gets deceptively deep without (to me anyway) ever feeling too overwhelming as they peel back the layers slowly. It's funny because at first I was so worried about how complex the battle system I almost dipped out completely on the series when XC2 was getting ready to release (back when Amazon had a discount for preordering games for prime members). BUT, I'm so glad I ended up getting the game (in part because of that discount). It made going back to get XCX and XC:3D worth it as well as buy everything that's come after. I skipped the wii version simply because I rarely hooked the wii up and only bought XCX because that was the only way to play it. I'm so glad XCX is coming out next month. I didn't think to setup XCX before the shop closed so I couldn't even get the free patches for that which helped loading.

If it's $350 or $400 then that's probably going to be ok. I'd rather $350 which is the actual exchange rate but we also have tariffs to deal with so it probably will be $400 anyway.
