$449 for the console.
$80 digital games.
$90 for physical.

At this point we're really not far off from GTA 6 releasing at $100 like the rumors are predicting.

Also read that switch 1 games will be BC but also reading that there will be an upgrade patch similar to how Playstation charges $10 per game to upgrade to PS5. Anyone have any confirmation?

I'm on the fence... but glad I locked in a place in the preorder line on nintendo.com . No harm or foul getting in the virtual line only to bounce later.

Main things I need to know...

Game Price - is what has been suggested real? How about third parties? I can swing paying more, but I'm not going to be buying ANY games on a whim with those prices. Just that new Hyrule Warriors game.

Is it still region free? How about BC region free?

Backwards Compatible List - This is super important to me. Are all my Falcom rpg's bc? How about all of the Nintendo made games I've bought? What's not compatible? Is it just certain things that require using specific accessories or are we dealing with a massive list of games not compatible? Are there any benefits to playing regular switch games without 2 enhancements? Like better framerates and 1080p handheld? If there's not enough coming over that I own and want to play still, then there's no point in me getting this at launch since Age of Imprisonment isn't until the end of the year.

Price of 2 Enhance upgrade - like, i'm not against throwing a $10 at a game but if it's like $20 or more... f that. How will the two Zelda games play without the enhancement? Also, kind of peeved no Wind Waker HD port. I'd rather just play the Wii-U HD port than the original emulated and 4:3.

Nicely there's time before preorders open on nintendo.com to get some answers. If I don't feel like I've gotten enough, I'll just opt out. We're already talking $495 after tax for just the base system (if shipping is free). I have plenty to play on the regular switch still. I don't actually need to upgrade, I just need more reason to.

The two Zelda games at least will be part of the Online Expansion pack. They do want people subscribing.

i was a bit underwhelmed. But my teens want Mario Kart (& They’ve both worked their asses off this school year) so I’ll be picking one up at launch.

And it comes out before we go to Japan.
I did not get picked in the lottery to get tickets for the Nintendo museum. Not sure if I’ll try again in the regular sale.

The problem with Nintendo is their games go on sale way less often than other platforms and the sales aren't nearly as good. Also Switch games have just kinda randomly went out of production and never came back and then their value shoots back up again. It's not like with PS5 and Xbox, if you wait long enough the games get to like $20 or $30. That very rarely happens with Nintendo. So it's most likely going to be wait a year or longer until the game drops to $55-$60, if it isn't out of production by that point.

I thought the charging for the Nintendo Switch 2 Welcome Tour game was odd. They should have include it like Sony did with Astro's Playroom or at least make it a free redemption for new Switch 2 owners for a certain amount of time.
They have gone 2006 Sony levels of arrogance. Myself and many here and on other forums were concerned that the Switch success would go to their head and so far, we are all right unfortunately.

Dang, Tokyo Xanadu eX+ is not compatible. Hopefully that gets fixed. That's what I'm currently playing and I love the hell out of this game and will want to revist it. It's good to see most other games are compatible. There weren't many on the "playable but has ingame issues" page of concern. Hardware wise, looks pretty good. I like the current pro controller and the snes controllers... so good to know they will still be useful on the Switch 2.

Thankfully a lot of Q's are getting answered. Hopefully software is region free and playing imports of og switch games won't be an issue.

As for game prices, I'm falling out from being the target demo for most nintendo releases. Zelda, Xenoblade, and 3D Mario platformers are still my jam. Maybe Mario Golf if done right, though at least we are getting Hot Shots on regular Switch. Most of the other first party stuff I've picked up used through gamefly once it goes on sale, bought on sale later, or just completely skipped. So the price thing, it's an issue but right now that's just one game I'm interested in this year and not even at launch.

Seems like right now, I'm thinking I am most likely to get off the fence and wait till 2026. But there's still like some details on BC that could sway me. Like if all the xenoblade games are 1080/60 without ever dipping and other games without paid enhancements better... it might just be a latteral move to Switch 2 in prep for Hyrule Warriors and then see what comes afterwards.

This is my thought too on all these people saying "I'm fine waiting"

This is Nintendo, waiting for what? The Switch is 8 years old now and unless you buy a used one, it's still expensive and so are the games. The best first party games are rarely had for less then $45 a piece and those ones started at $60. Now that they are starting at $80, I would guess the 25% off sales would put them at around $60, a year after they come out.

I get it though if you are waiting for some better games to bring you in. The launch titles are pretty sparse.

The system price is exactly what I predicted. and I've been eagerly awaiting the obvious and much-needed price increase on prestige game publishing for several years. I'm all for the $100 flagship title. Idiots have been supporting the terrible games for over a decade. There's been immense insider pressure to regress into vapid service and mobile game development for quick and easy profiting. Rock out with your cawk out, and proudly display that $100 title; be the standard bearer for the industry. Be the pinnacle games that everyone wishes they were playing. not like we won't be able to find discounts or savings sometimes.

I really think people don't realize how little they are paying for new titles in 2025. But it's not like they are purchasing new games anyways. Oh welp, time for a reset! Love it.

My only gripe with today's news is that they could have given the (Zelda, Kirby, Metroid) performance updates away for free. We all knew it was going to head in this direction with Online membership. But it's always ugly when this happens. Price increases will likely be coming around the end of 2025 too.

I'm the only one who accurately predicted Switch 2 at $449 and I have receipts. I think people were expecting $399 but those same people forget that Nintendo likes to make a profit on their hardware as well as their software so $449 was a no brainer.

We're heading for a videogame crash if prices continue to sky rocket. There's just not enough time and money to play all these games. Also it is NOT the responsibility of consumers to bail out the companies and developers for over scoping and over budgeting their games. Concord cost $400 million dollars to make and likely double that in marketing. By that metric Gamers should have to pay $500 for each game just for them to break even!

The movie industry is completely dead and the videogame industry is heading that way. Just look at all of the slop they've been releasing and all of the studio shutdowns and layoffs. The movie industry has said that they've tried everything to get people back into the theater but it just isn't working. They've tried everything... except for actually making good movies and lowering ticket prices, expecting people to dish out $100+ for a family of four on a trash 2 hour movie when you could just treat the family to a nice dinner instead. The quality of games are going down as well, you'd expect the quality of games to go up with increased prices but games are releasing buggier than ever! And now with everything switching to digital means you will own nothing and you will be happy!

I predicted $399 standalone and $449 Mario kart. I don't have any issue with a $449 price point if it came included with Mario kart. Hell, if it came with any kind of game it would take the sting out of things. It really should have included some kind of game that showed off the new function of the mouse controls. Sony was very wise to include the amazing Astros playroom with every single PS5 sold. I really thought Nintendo would have taken the same approach but sadly, I was wrong.

Wait, are all physical cards game-key cards? Do they lock to a console?

No, game-key cards are basically just replacing those occasional games that would require a partial download or maybe even those that only have a code in the box.

You would still have the usual physical cartridges where it's all on the cart, just not for every game. Just like before.

Reports are stating that certain games won't actually be on the cartridge and you'll have to download them just like discs with PS5 and series X. I'm thinking that Nintendo first party games will definitely be on the cartridge since they are Masters at compression but time will tell.

Feels like it's just a way to placate collectors because they know how pathetic a code in a box appears. Unless I'm misunderstanding the premise.

I have this whole thing ready to be paid off through Gamestop, so I was ready either way. $450 was the expected price for me, glad it didn't go over that.

Is Amazon going to have listings? They haven't been carrying Switch game pre-orders lately. Not sure if that's for all their games, but it's for ones I wanted and they simply didn't list them. It appears Amazon and Nintendo are back on the outs again.

So that 20$ best buy cert is only when buying games and gear, meaning accessories I'm assuming. Not on the console itself. Correct? Otherwise you could essentially get 60 bucks back lol

EDIT: "Up to $100 in rewards when you stock up on an assortment of games, gift cards, and accessories for Nintendo Switch. Bonus reward will appear in your My Best Buy™ account approximately 15 days after your order is fulfilled. Excludes all Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 hardware."

I'd love to hear more about the effects of dementia.

This is my favorite time of year: when the the liars and deceivers come out to roleplay and pretend like they are actual paying customers.

So we're entering a wild west era of pricing to bailout overproduced games and feed the machine. Game Pass it is.
Wait. Are we seeing the first $80 non-premium game with this announcement? Let's hope that's a typo because they will be eaten alive for forcing the needle on a day like today.

I was never going to get a Switch 2 at launch (I'd rather wait for a limited edition and/or the first revision we all know Nintendo will do), and the system is pretty much what I was expecting (though I wasn't expecting a display with 120fps capabilities). I wonder how going back to an LCD versus an OLED will look even with the higher quality LCD with HDR capabilities this one seems to have.

But I'll admit, I have soured on it after this presentation.

It's mainly the pricing. Obviously everything is more complicated and feature-rich over past iterations, like controllers (like how cars are more advanced), but damn, $90 for the Joy-Con 2 set? $70-80 per game? And they haven't even mentioned the upgrade cost for individual games, which scares me. I feel more nickel and dimed than ever before, especially with all the ports. We all thought the first Switch was heavy on ports. With the exception of, what, 5 or 6 games, everything is either a multi-platform release (and who knows how they run) or already released, sometimes years old games being ported.

Nintendo published games are always the wildcard for one of their systems, so there's hope, but we didn't see it here (I don't like the new, old DK they're using. Those eyes...those eyes...).

Yeah, I don't know. I'll get one eventually, and maybe once this is out and the all the pricing stuff settles it'll come off as more appealing, but, yeah, I don't know. I'll probably treat the Switch 2 like I do the PS5: just an upgraded version of the previous iteration that will play my older games slightly better.

Elden Ring Tarnished Edition coming to NSW2
Hades II coming
Cyberpunk Ultimate Edition
Final Fantasy VII remake Integrade
Bravely Default remaster
Yakuza 0 director's cut

kind of a big deal. Nintendo has the capability to do everything modern now. While almost nothing of historical note has happened on PS or Xbox during the previous five years. I think some people are still catching up to the fact.

Some people are like, "WTH, that costs the same amount as a full PS5 + games now". Which I get. but I'm like, "yeah well the NSW2 basically IS a PS5 from 2020 now". With additional features and exclusives, and most things modern and noteworthy finally coming to Nintendo hardware. 4K and HDR capability, and dual modes. The advantages other consoles had are disappearing fast.

must be Total Tech member and able to take 9 inches smiling.
anyhow yeah everything I've read makes it sound like these things aren't going to be hard to get at all. They've forecasted demand, had a huge ramp up and shifted factory production and storage in response to tariffs and uncertainty, and had a full nine extra months to accelerate production to be ready for launch day. I wouldn't be worried at all.
