Adaptec Gamebridge 1400 (play console games on your PC!) - Now $10 at Fry's - review!
It was just confirmed in the planetamd64 forums this will not work with Vista x32 and adaptec has no intentions of making new drivers apparently.
I'm using Vista Ultimate 32bit and it works perfectly.
I'm using Vista Ultimate 32bit and it works perfectly.
I can also confirm that it works on Vista using the xp driver, not perfectly though. When it does work, it is just as good as running it on xp. However, every now and then, I have reboot the computer to get this thing working properly.
is there any lag when you have a console connected to it..

my last device had a annoying lag
Some, but it's far less than a second. No way around that with USB devices AFAIK.

What happens if you don't reboot?

I just got my 1410 today and it works great. I just can't figure out how to get the remote to work. When I press any of the buttons the GameBridge green light flashes red but nothing happens. Any help?

What remote do you mean? My 1400 didn't come with a remote. I didn't think the 1410 one did but maybe it does?

I'm sorry if this has been answered already, but is there any way to get drivers for this on OSX? I have an intel iMac, and so I dual boot XP and OSX--it's just cumbersome having to restart every time I want to play some Wii! I know it's a long shot, but is there any way to use this with OSX?

received mine today, although I am not going to try it any time soon (since I already got a few video capture cards)
however, I realized this thing record video to vcd, whereas the 1410 does DVD?
I thought the only difference is the tv tuner between the two (which is useless to me since it is analog).

Anyway to improve sound lag while watching cable on the 1410. It's just about the most retardedest thing ever.

That's the only drawback with this thing, stupid sound lag (oh and not putting all the setting options in the main program).

quick update

i went to the fry's in socal (woodland hills) and they had the 1400 for $7.90 on clearance. the tag said the price was good until 3/13/2007 and they had about 20 of them on display near the networking area.

dunno about other stores so ymmv.

Just ordered this. Great item! Though it doesn't work on my JVC X'eye. The video is all scrambled and weird. Resolution problem from such antiquated hardware?
This method works best for me (stolen from the Penny-Arcade forums):
Thanks much. Just running the GameBridge in Windows Media Player Classic was all I needed to do in Vista to make it work perfectly (Dscaler was slow, and Intervideo didn't support widescreen). I run my sound through external speakers though.

It's working (near) perfectly. I tested out 3rd Strike in WMPC, and can parry attacks and supers like normal, which is how I gauged the (lack of) lag.
It's down to $4.90 on the website
http://shop1.outpost.com/product/4945601
 I ended up pulling the trigger on this one 4 days ago for $9.90. I doubt they will pricematch but wont hurt to email them and ask.

Edit: got an email saying they wont pricematch. Its not that big of a deal since its still worth the extra 5 bucks.

I'm finally breaking down and buying this, even though I have no use for it.

Edit: Shipping was $6.32 so I didn't pull the trigger.
Has anyone gotten this to work with an Xbox360???? I tried hookin it up and I'm gettin no sound or audio or anythign!!! anyone have a guess?
You'd have to make sure your 360's cable is set to regular TV (ie composite), and the system is set for 480i in the menu too.

Remember though that this won't let it work in HD. If you have a regular computer monitor, use the 360's VGA cable to get HD resolutions. If this is for a laptop where that's not possible, this should at least let you run it (though it won't be anywhere near your laptop screen's real resolution).

hey thanks, yea I do have the VGA kit.. and thats what I use, but I was just gunna switch to this if I want to record some stuff

but my settings only have 480p.. not 480i, but thats what I had it set at, and it still didn't seem to be working..

yea the switch itself is on the plug that goes into the 360... u push up for TV, and push it down for HDTV I believe

its ont he top side of the plug (if your 360 is vertical)

I'm afraid I already know the answer but does it HAVE to be USB 2.0? I'm pretty sure my older notebook does not have that...

I have a 1410 and yes it does require USB 2.0
When you run the install disk, it will check for USB 2.0, Processor, Direct X compatable card. If any of the these don't exist it will not allow you to install the drivers and software. If running a CPU < recommeded speed, you get a warning, but can still install it.

From my experience this little device is great. I am running it on a 1.0 AMD Athlon and the rarely skips (this doesn't happen at all when running on a recommened CPU)
The sound has a annoying crackling, but it is my soundcard. This doesn't seem to happen on a different PC. So I just connect the AV audio diectly to my monitors built in speakers and it work great. The video quality look pretty good on my 23" LCD.

The TV tuner works well if you have cable, sat owners will need to have a sat box to watch tv.

Pros: < $20 you get a tv tuner/capture remote device
USB, no opening computer to install
no need for external PS
size - everthing fits neatly in nice carring case (except cd)
easy setup
interface easy to use
Cons: install cd does not fit in carrying case (should have been a minidisc)
software feature could use improvements

I'm in for one. Thanks OP.

Groud shipping is $6.xx and it's only about $3 more for 2 day ($9.xx) so I figured why not? I can also expense this to work since it's a PC item.

I received mine on Monday...not a bad unit for the price! Tested it with an old, fat PS2 connected via S-video while playing Okami. Seemed to be a very slight lag but nothing that ruined the gameplay.

I can't believe they ever charged $60-$70 for this thing. A VGA box is much better.

Maybe someone can help me with this. I've literally tried installing the program about a dozen times, and every time I start InterVideo and click GameBridge or TV, I get an error message and the program closes.

Here's the error message:
AppName: home theater.exe AppVer: 2.6.1.139 ModName: iviavctl.dll
ModVer: 3.0.88.4 Offset: 0000ca3f

Any ideas? It works fine on my laptop, but I really need to get this program working on my desktop, which is right next to all my systems.

Any help is appreciated.

It's such a niche app that I'd guess you'll have to dig around on Adaptec's site or see if they can provide some post-sales assistance. I've heard some horror stories that they charge like $100+/incident or something...but if you just bought it I can't believe they wouldn't try to work something out.

Last night I installed the CCCP (Combined Community Codec Pack) so I could play an mkv file...while installing it prompted to disable InterVideo Home Theater's plug-ins because apparently they cause conflicts. Therefore, I'd dig thorugh your AV apps and see if you can remove one or another and get the app working. See what the diff is between your desktop/laptop software configs...it's a software issue (duh) so there must be something causing a conflict.

I read a few pages of the thread but couldn't find anyone who asked it.

Has anyone tried either model with a Super Nintendo or a Nintendo 64?

I have a 1400 and it works with the SNES but havent tried it with a Nintendo 64 yet.

Not sure if this is already mentioned, but doesn't hurt to say it again. The Fry's at Concord, CA has the 1410 (w/ TV tuner) for $9.90 and the 1400 (w/o TV tuner) for $4.90. I bought another 1410 for the heck of it. They still got tons in stock.

I've seen some vids on youtube of Smash Brothers 64 captured on the Gamebridge so it should work.

I picked up the last one with TV tuner a few weeks ago for $15. Now it drops to $10 . I'm wondering if I can return and rebuy. I'm not sure if it is worth the hassle.

I received mine today. The unit is good no complaints, only that the picture isn't the best, but I'm using a 3 year old CRT monitor on my Dell so that says it all. I'm sure an LCD monitor is way, way better.

The cool thing is that you can hook up a Direct TV box with S video/AV and watch it through the monitor, lol, I'll never leave my desk again. I've been surfing the net while listening to XM radio on Direct TV. And Ive recorded some video too.

i went to fry's last night, but they don't have both 1415 and 1410. anyone willing to buy a 1415 for me?

This is one gigantic fucking thread. I bought one of these right away for like $25 when it was initially posted in September.

In my humble opinion, the thing is a piece of shit. I've had nothing but problems with it(I bought the one with the TV tuner in it). The Intervideo Home Theater interface you use with it flat out sucks and the tuner is messed up because there is no channel 1 (obviously) so channel 2 gets renamed channel 1 and all the channels are off by 1, which is extremely fucking annoying.

I wouldn't recommend this to anyone, but I may have felt different about it if I had only paid $10, happy shopping.

Are you sure about there not being a channel 1? I've recorded some things, and the channels seem correct. Perhaps it needs to be set to cable instead of Air? I can't check now, I'm recording something.

..........

Never mind, I misunderstood what you were saying. It's possible to change the name of the channels if you want. I know it's posisble but slow in Intervideo Home Theater. It may be possible to rename them a little faster if you use the configuration utility while the device is plugged in. Again, I can't check right at this moment.

hmm so this doesn't work if you have the CCCP codec pack installed? I'd rather not dig through my codecs just to find what is and isn't causing problems. I just want the 1400 so I can capture some game vids every now and then...

i never really had any conflicts with CCCP and the gamebridge. at some point i had some problems viewing some video i took with my friend's camera on my computer and switched to klite codecs and then it worked fine.
