CAGiversary!

FAQ:

When does the sale being?
The sale begins on MONDAY SEPT 12th when bestbuy opens

Is the sale also online?
no one knows for sure, often bb keeps prices the same, but like i said, this isnt a guarantee. some people are ordering online now and hoping to pricematch later, again, this isnt a guarantee.

Why are people saying they are getting games now, when the sale dosent start until monday?
some people are buying games ahead of time for full price and going back later to get a price adjustment on the games.

BB.com says the games are out of stock in stores around me, is that reliable?
no, its not reliable, it might be right, or it might not, this is from first hand experiance i had today (going to BB then checking avaliability of games i knew where on the shelves when i got home..)

Should i call and ask about the sale?
no, very rarely is calling and asking about a big unadvertised sale a good idea. it can tip off employees that the sale is even going on, also some empolyees might know about it and might have been told to deny it, and some might have no clue at all.

Will the $5 off coupon work on these games? (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58353)
that will be YMMV, the coupon says in black and white, excludes clearance items, so if you get shot down dont cry about it.

Went to two stores. The one in Mishawaka, IN had pretty much nothing. Grabbed the last 'Zilla Save the Earth for XB. Tarzan GBA rang up at $9.99, though it had a white UPC sticker over the original barcode. So maybe it's YMMV based on whether it has the sticker or not. Aside from that, Bloodrayne 2 and Narc for PS2, and Pandora Tomorrow GC were all I saw.

Benton Harbor was better. They had a table of games that were 50% off, some of which weren't on the list. Got the following.

Mr. Driller DS: $9.99
GTA Advance: $9.99 (still 1 left)
Strike Force Bowling PS2: $4.99
Max Payne 2 PS2: $4.99
Bad Boys XB: $4.99
TMNT Melee GC: $9.99
Strike Force Bowling GC: $7.49
Harvest Moon: Another Wonderful Life: $14.99
Terminator ROTM: $4.99

Basically, I'm hoping Strike Force PS2, Terminator, Bad Boys, and Max Payne 2 are all still PO at EB. If so, then I managed to get a bunch of $4.99 games without hassling with a coupon.

I think they accidentally grabbed Another Wonderful Life instead of the original and slapped the 50% sticker on it. Not as good as those who nabbed it for $10 after the WaveRace UPC fiasco, but good enough for me. I probably still paid too much for TMNT Melee, but I'm a sucker for 4-player games on the Cube.
as I suspected, this 'sale' was a whole lot to do about nothing. Kinda like that pseudo circuit city second round $1.99 sale.

Lansing, Okemos, and Brighton, MI Best Buys had none of the listed games at the clearance prices. And between the 3 stores I visited I found at least a dozen titles from the "list" and the only success I had was in coinvincing 3 employees across this state that I am a loony bird.

Unfortunately, I have never come across a good sale at BB anywhere in the metro Detroit area. Best Buy really does suck around here.
Yeah, I went to the Southfield, MI store and they didn't know about the sale, and the couple $4.99 games rang up at 9.99 and 19.99. I called the Westland, MI store and they knew about the sale, but complained that "most of the stores don't have most of the games."

P.S. It's nice to see a "local" CAG who is also a Prisoner fan!
Best Buy in Westwood Village sucks. They made it so you had to buy a game at full price to get the clearance price (or more expensive).
I think you misunderstood the sale they had going there. The deal was, you buy any regular priced game and you can get a clearance item for half off the clearance price.

clearance games were still at clearance price regardless.

PFFFFT, I got to the Westwood Village BB at about 11:20 and there was about 5 people rummaging through the aisles.

One guy had a basket full of games! BAH! #$@%$!

the only thing I wanted was Paper Mario and there were none.

If any CAGS in Los Angeles would like to sell me a paper mario, I would be much obliged. I would pay for shipping and your effort.

I see that DealsRus has been banned, oops, I forgot we weren't supposed to talk about him. Anyway, just for my curiosity, he said he had been here for about a year and had had 3 aliases, who was he?

Anyhow, right after school I went to my BB and guess what, they had jack shit. Waste of gas and time. Seems they got in a few things, but that some hoarder asshole took it all. Anyway, at least I picked up a Rebelstar Tactics Command for GBA for $14.99 after GGC. After BB, I went to try and see if CC would do it. Well, their shelves were practically barren. Just about nothing. Sucks. Anything I wanted from the site is also OOS and I'm actually willing to pay for the shipping now. Sucks. fuck you BB for making stay up half the night last night trying to get it to work.

It seems like a lot of people got burned on this deal.

I'm trying to keep up with this thread as I"m a fast reader, but damn does it grow fast. I've read through page 21 and from 30-37. Yeesh.

You know what, I doubt that any store in Vegas even had more than 1 or 2 things left. At least I got Rebelstar. Damn BB and their fucking website. MIght have had the chance for at least something had their site now been so screwy.

WORST SALE EVER!!!!!

I'm not exaggerating. I went to 6 best buys, saw lotr two towers for 10, tmnt battle nexus for 10, bloodrayne 2 for 10, a few hunting games. Didn't buy a single game, and spent 25 in gas to do it. The fact that the list was decent just makes it worse.

I am sure everyone's heard this a dozen and ½ times. But if anyone has an extra copy of growlanser ill give em 20 bucks (shipping included please). I ordered a few different things through the website but it's now backordered. Thanks

Well looks like noone has PS2 Silent Hill 4 for trade so I will sell my Gamecube Metal Gear Twin Snakes that I bought for trade for $14. (It cost me $11 with tax plus a couple of bucks for shipping and a dollar in gas so I am not trying to profit, just help a fellow CAG'er out and skip returning the game to Best Buy) It is Players Choice by the way.

I only went to 1 of the 2 bestbuys i said i was gonna go for.. I got Shaman King and Monopoly online at bestbuy.com for 9.99 there shipping now (shaman king was 4.99), and I ordered zoo keeper too, but I found it at the store I went to and cancelled it.

I also grabbed a copy of Mr. Driller Drill Spirits (NDS), Zoo Keeper (NDS), GTA Advance (GBA), Godzilla Save the Earth (Xbox).

They had second sight, die hard, 5 more copies of GTA Advance, and a buncha others but I didnt grab em.. I left happy :)

Frisco, Texas Best Buy (This was at 12pm Noon)

I went to the Portland, OR airport Best Buy right before I had to catch a plane. There were about 15 people outside the store just before it opened at 10am. HOWEVER, only 2 other people went straight for the games (what those others were doing there waiting for the store to open for i have no idea). I made for the PS2 section to check for Y's and Growlanser. Big mistake - one of the other guys went straight to the Gamecube section and picked up the last Paper Mario. Grrr... I was able to find an Xbox Silent Hill 4 though for $4.99.

This thread has gone from like 50 or so pages to 90+ since I boarded that plane and no way am I reading through it - but I wonder if anyone else experienced this? Paper Mario guy (wonder if he was a CAG?) asked the BB games guy if they had pulled a bunch of games for the sale - games guy said they did, because they got new price tags to put on. He refused to let us see what they had pulled and wouldn't say when they would go back out (not that it mattered to me - I'm 2500 miles from there now :D). Kind of annoying to say the least. He claimed it wasn't really a sale and just some BB employee leaked it to the web and we weren't supposed to know about it. Yeah, OK.

Anyway, on a whim, even though I needed to get to the airport, I went back in to the store after getting my Silent Hill 4 and putting it in the car. I found a PS2 Rocky hiding amongst the Rocky Legends. So I got a game for $0.99 - woo hoo... Checked in at the airport with 40 minutes to spare before departure, so it didn't cost me :D.

Also - I made 4 in store pickup orders last night (when the site finally started working again). 2 of those 4 were cancelled this morning. Also, I put in a couple of orders to ship. On one order I got Crash N Burn and Yager - just got a notice that Yager is backordered :D. But no notice on the Crash N Burn so hopefully that is still good (also ordered Azkaban for GC).

pm'd:)

I know you guys are all CAG fanatics - who isn't - , but am I the only one out there who's perfectly happy with a $10 good game? I picked up online or in stores today Otogi 2, Mortal Kombat: Deception, Bard's Tale, MechAssault 2, Ys, Midway Arcade Treasure 2, Spyro: Hero's Tail, Incredibles, Simpsons Road Rage, Magic: the Gathering Battlegrounds, Yager, and Star Wars Starfighter. A decent game selection is reduced to only $10 each and below and it seems like everyone's whining that it's not cheap enough for them. Sure, the news that most of the supposed $4.99 games were really $9.99 was disappointing, but most of the games on most gaming sites including EB for $10 and below are mostly used games, not brand new. For brand new, it's not bad at all. The only problem is that there's not enough games to go around for everyone either online or in stores.

Yes, I am cheap enough to not pay $10 for most of the games on that list simply because I believe most of them I will find for cheaper. A lot of the games you listed, though, I already own, so I was looking at a lot of the other titles. $10 games add up a lot quicker than $5 games. I will pretty much pick up any game for $5. For $10, it has to be something that I don't think will ever reach the $5 range anytime soon. If there's one thing I've learned from CAG, it's that there will almost always be a better sale. This sale dissapointed a lot of us because we've been through a lot better clearance sales in the past.

Most of my games shipped today:

Game Boy Advance

GBA - Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past
GBA - Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls

PSX - Final Fantasy VIII

chill out, there will be more.
It is no ones fault, its just that no one saw this clearance sale coming...everyone has at least a week or something to "prepare"

No worries. Just try to help each other. These hoarders should be available in order to end up with the desired games. BB blows, thats the end of it.

Who has otogi 2?

Stopped at the Best Buy in Orange, CT today (even though I knew it was a waste of time) and to my suprise they had jack shit. Horrible selection of new games, let alone any of the clearance games. I asked some employees about it, one said it was online only, another said it didn't exist and I made it up, and another just didn't know. Anyone looking to trade for a new copy of Mario 64 DS?

ship, you summed it up just about perfectly for me as well - especially the difference between $5 and $10 games. I'll add another wrinkle to it - my GR and EB trade-in credit is running at about twice what I paid for the games (using cheap fodder from Target or TRU mostly). So, I can pretty much get any $20 game for an actual expense of $10 there (for example Spyro Hero's Tale, Harry Potter, etc). But $5 is a different matter :D. Thus I passed on Spyro but ordered Harry Potter Azkaban (Ok, had to pay $7 with shipping - that's pushing it but I went for it anyway since my kids are playing the older Harry Potter games on the GC right now). Also, I was hoping to find a Tak 2 ($5) but will pass on Lemony Snicket ($10).

I'm too lazy to go back through all 1870 posts, but did someone already suggest that all hoarders and FatAssWallet slime can go straight to fucking hell?

Just waiting for the inevitable eBay price drops.

Went to 3 different BB in Evanston, Skokie, and Niles IL and got...

Final Fantasy DoS (GBA)
Conflict Vietnam (XBOX)
Rocky Legends (XBOX)
Godzilla StE (XBOX)
Lemony Snicket's ASOUE (XBOX)
Catwoman (PS2) I know but it was only a $1.00
Eye Toy

I got to the BB in Skokie just in time to see this guy grab the last to Y’s. I also had to fight the employees to get Catwoman for $0.99. It rang up $19.99. When I told them it was $0.99 they looked at me like I was crazy. After about 15 minutes of arguing the store manager brought over a list of the games that are on sale and told them to adjust the price for me. I did get what a wanted (Growlanser Generations & Y’s) but I guess I did OK. On a side note, I was surprised to see a bunch of mothers trying to get sale games for their kids. One guy actually sent his pregnant wife to pick games, now that’s low.

Well, I always have money when I need it, and knowing when to spend and when not to is a big reason. But there's a difference here. $5 and under and I'll buy the game cause I want it, cause it is associated with something I like (lotr, star wars etc.), has a pretty picture etc. For 10 bucks, I better damn well want the game. I only wanted this game cause it was lord of the rings. It would have gone in my collection and probably stayed sealed for a while, maybe forever.

My guide, game and dvd collections were all built (at least the additions of the last 2 or so years) extremely cheaply, relative to whats in them.

The xbox version of Catwoman was 0.99, not the ps2 version. lol, that was probably the most hardcore thing anyone has ever done in the name of the Halle Berry's Catwoman.

those dastardly evil doers!

Nothing good at my BB, I guess I overexpected the sale compared to the $5 CC sale and the 90% TRU last year.

Good luck to everyone else, there's some really good games for cheap if you can find/order them ;)

you know, future tactics isnt that bad...its not deep by any means but its a simple strategy game, held my attention, and thats not easy..

Remember guys...don't forget sears and circuit city will pricematch Best buy's site. It's a long shot with so many games now OOS but it's worth attempting (I showed somel printouts to an emplyoee and she PM it anyway, despite one printout saying "Out of Stock")

Well, four of the six items I ordered shipped:

Tak 2: Staff Of Dreams (Xbox)
Godzilla: Save The Earth (Xbox)
Astro Boy: Omega Factor (GBA)
The Incredibles (Xbox)

Two items are now backordered:
Growlanser: Generations (PS2)
Ys: The Ark of Nephistism (PS2)

So, now BB has to pony up the difference on the first four, $10 + $30 + $10 + $10 + tax. That's a phone call for tomorrow.

Last two, have to wait until they ship, and if BB follows past experience, I'm not getting Ys or Growlanser. Which chaps my ass a bit, since I ordered them around 2-3PM CT on Sunday, same with the other items. That's also on the phone call for tomorrow, to find out the ETA on those two games. Probably be never, knowing BB.

Not much available in North County San Diego. The employees snagged the decent titles from the San Marcos store from what I was told. If anyone has an extra copy of Y's I'll pay $20 shipped.

I wasn't able to get everything that I wanted, however I was able to get:

Y's - The last copy
Blood Rayne 2 (xbx) - The last copy

I wanted to get Harvest Moon - but it wasn't marked down - after looking at the bestbuy website I found out that only the Player's Choice version was marked down - all the back of the cases had a best buy yellow sticker barcode over the barcode of the original game. I wanted to peel the sticker off, but there were employees all around me since there wasn't anyone in the store.

To make the deal even better I was able to use the McD $5 off coupon on Ys - so I got it for $4.99...

I also picked up Crash on dvd as I thought the movie was pretty good in the theater.
"See in my line of work you got to keep repeating things over and over and over again for the truth to sink in, to kind of catapult the propaganda."- George W. Bush, Athena Performing Arts Center at Greece Athena Middle/High School, Tuesday, May 24, 2005 in Rochester, NY

Hear it in audio: http://www.prisonplanet.com/audio/260505bushism.mp3
Bush has made plenty of mistatements, but that's not one of them.

Listen again. He says there's been so much "propaganda" put out there with the goal of making people afraid to reform Social Security that the "truth" has to be repeated in order to "catapult" or transcend the falsehoods. Of course, the audience in Rochester understands it perfectly and erupts with applause.

Listening to that clip makes it obvious that you either are deliberately twisting the meaning, or else you truly don't get it. And either answer makes you look a little foolish.

Yep, got there this morning. That's where I found that basket hidden on the bongos.

I was inside Best Buy (West Covina, CA) less than 10 min. after it opened, but they didn't have anything. I was looking for Paper Mario and Y's VI. I some two other guys walking around the games dept. looking really disappointed. If anyones has these games, send me a message.

FYI for anybody in Nashville, there's still a handful of Xbox sale titles at BB in Cool Springs, and several copies of Taiko Drum Master at the Hickory Hollow store.

i went to best buy earlier today (springfield, va) and it was already cleaned out. Either the games that they were trying to clearance had already been sold at regular price or some sneaky CAG/FW/other person beat me to the games. i just hope it wasn't a FW'er...
Remember guys...don't forget sears and circuit city will pricematch Best buy's site. It's a long shot with so many games now OOS but it's worth attempting (I showed somel printouts to an emplyoee and she PM it anyway, despite one printout saying "Out of Stock")
At sears it really depends on the person. I used to work there, and I didn't care at all. If I scanned an item and it never showed up on the screen, I didn't usually bother scanning it again (though, this was when I was bagging a bunch of clothes). I'd price match anything as long as they brought in something and cared equally little about other things.

My coworkers asked me to pick up some games from Best Buy so I ended up borrowing my friend's car and driving all the way there. I found a lot of games on the list but either they ended up being a different price or something I didn't want. No Growlanser, Paper Mario, or Y's for me :whistle2:(. Wasted gas just go buy some games for other people, hehe. I'm so selfish.

When I was there, the Best Buy employees asked if they could make a copy of my list because they supposedly lost the store copy (and wanted some games for themselves). There were also tons of people from Slickdeals, Fatwallet, and supposedly CAG who to look at my list. At least I got to socialize...

It was an explanation of why he made a particular statement 3 times. And the crowd erupting can be heard in many of his mispeaks, it's a crowd that supports him anyway.

Though I don't see why you'd even bother trying to have a discussion like this in best buy clearance topic. Little sensitive, aren't we?

Though, to restate the obvious, this clearance sucked. And my whole day was devoted to realizing how much this clearance sucked.
