CAGiversary!
I figured that by the time I got home from work this would have already been posted with the list, but it looks like I should have brought the list home with me. Best Buy is putting a ton of slower-moving games on clearance starting Monday Sept. 12th. Prices ranged from .99-9.99, with most being 4.99, and included games for all systems.

FAQ:

When does the sale being?
The sale begins on MONDAY SEPT 12th when bestbuy opens

Is the sale also online?
no one knows for sure, often bb keeps prices the same, but like i said, this isnt a guarantee. some people are ordering online now and hoping to pricematch later, again, this isnt a guarantee.

Why are people saying they are getting games now, when the sale dosent start until monday?
some people are buying games ahead of time for full price and going back later to get a price adjustment on the games.

BB.com says the games are out of stock in stores around me, is that reliable?
no, its not reliable, it might be right, or it might not, this is from first hand experiance i had today (going to BB then checking avaliability of games i knew where on the shelves when i got home..)

Should i call and ask about the sale?
no, very rarely is calling and asking about a big unadvertised sale a good idea. it can tip off employees that the sale is even going on, also some empolyees might know about it and might have been told to deny it, and some might have no clue at all.

Will the $5 off coupon work on these games? (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58353)
that will be YMMV, the coupon says in black and white, excludes clearance items, so if you get shot down dont cry about it.
While I generally agree with the 'quit taking orders when you're out' think, BB isn't the only company or industry to do it. I'm still waiting on my memory stick from Buy.com [which is now On Order], and the airlines 'overbook' all the time. I'm not condoning the practice, I think it's pretty crappy, but BB is hardly alone.
Oh, I know this happens all the time. I think it's lousy that some people who order games/books/toys/whatever before others sometimes don't get their items shipped at all, but people who order the same items after them, do. I've seen this happen on other sites too like Amazon.com. It's pretty crappy customer service. These corporate morons can kiss this: :booty: . Sorry, I just wanted to use this emoticon somehow. ;)

I just got notification of another shipment in my order. I put my order in at about 4:00AM CT on Sunday night and here are my current results:

Shipped:

Harry Potter: Prisoner of Azkaban (9/12)
Colin McRae 03 (9/12)
Crash N' Burn (9/13)

Backordered:

Silent Hill 4
Tron 2.0
Yager

I'm hoping that the backorders eventually go through, especially SH4, but I won't hold my breathe. I guess 50% isn't too bad....atleast I got a few games out of this sale!

I just checked out the Worcester, MA BB at the Greendale Mall. Freakin' empty. This sucks the hardest because I was there three or four days ago and I swear I saw a copy of Ys.
So if anyone has a spare Ys feel free to PM me and maybe we can arrange something.

And what gets me is that these are all high-tech, multimilliondollar companies with huge fancy websites. They can track what I bought and looked and searched for for the past ten years, but they can't send an error message when "Total Quantity ordered" > "Quantity in stock"? It gets a little confusing when they're accessing inventory at the store level, but isn't that the point of all these POSes and computers and scanners and codes and such?

I ordered a game from EBGames months ago... still waiting. Kinda sucks because its on my Edge card and I'm not sure if I should keep the credit on there or not.

But yeah, it happens a lot, but that's still too much. If inventory is automated there should be no doubt as to whether or not it is in stock...

Basically, my standpoint is: Stores suck. I hate all of them. Which is why when I have what I consider a complete collection consisting of the games that I need, I'm happy. I don't have to deal with stock, shithead employees, or finding good prices...

Unfortunately, I fell behind a little while ago and I'm regretting it now...

All five of my games have apparently shipped. Crash 'n' Burn yesterday, and Zelda GBA, GTA GBA, Legacy of Kain Xbox, and Pac Man World 2/Vs. shipped today.

Regarding backorders online, I got a backorder message when I ordered Metal Arms the first time it was $5 on bb.com, and I got it about a week and a half later. Don't lose all hope.

Well, I'm not banking on bestbuy.com to ship my copies of MK: Deception, BR 2, or Wolfenstein after seeing those error messages, so I went ahead and got Godzilla and TMNT 2 tonight instead for $15 after GGC. If they do ever come back, it's no big deal if I don't get them. AstroBoy was the one game that I ordered that I really wanted and that shipped with LoK: Defiance and MA 2 LE.

Also, my copy of Growlanser is pending as well according to the website still, but I'm not banking on that fact that it'll actually ship.

Ironically, Metal Arms is a game that's not very good. You see that for $5 at every Best Buy. It's trade-in fodder for EBGames.

The chance of Bestbuy getting in enough new copies of Ys or Growlanser to satsify all of the backorders is almost impossible. :(

Still, you just convinced the the optimist in me ito hold off from cancelling the orders for at least 2 weeks.

went ot the Garner NC B&M today and it's pretty much empty. Only saw a FF: Origins and Pacman World for $4.99 each. didn't get anything. Anyone know if any of the Raleigh NC stores are stocked?

I went to Best Buy today 9-13-05 and they didnt have no sale and we even asked and the cheapest games they had was 19.99 that was all the games on the list when we asked about the sale they said they knew of no such sale .

I was bored, so I hit up the Best Buy in Saint Petersburg just for the hell of it (got everything I wanted online or through other CAG's).

They had two eyetoy's on a table that said 50% off (no interest in these) and two Bard's Tales for Xbox at 9.99.

I have a question for wherehouse.com/fye. are the trade in prices on wherehouse.com always valid for fye? or does it depend on how many copies of the game fye has in stock. One other question if i trade stuff in online to wherehouse.com can i use the trade in money they give me at fye or just online at wherehouse.com?

You may not get one, but it sure doesn't hurt to leave the backorder up. I mean, they won't charge you if they DO get more in. I have had things go back order on their site just to come in a week or two later and get filled. And other times my back orders were canceled after so many days by BB.

Who knows, weirder things have happened than backorders being filled! ^_^

I have to disagree with you . . . yes, its a game with little value and it is PO at EB . . . so you can make a few bucks on it. But it is also a really good game. Right up there with Ratchet and Clank as a platforming-adventure-shooter.

I s'pose it's just not my type of game.

And next you're going to tell me you're a Bears fan!
Judging by reports, there did seem to be a noticeable transition taking place. The hidden knowledge had spread even to the commoners and clueless mothers. Cultural, generational, and nerdical barriers were broken down in the fateful BB Fall Clearance of 2005.

btw ITDEFX, how come you always put the quoted text at the BOTTOM of your posts? I always get confused at the beginning, until I get all the way down and realize you were responding to a quote.
I was the first person in the store and they barely had anything. Probably 6-8 titles. I picked up teenage muntant ninja turtle 2. Dissappointing day.

this thread should be closed...its day three... all the volture hoarders have picked the last of the meat from the bones and are currently selling there copies for cash at ebgames or ebay. meh. Called an eb earlier...they told me some people came in during the last few days and sold them multiple copies of certain games that were on the list. ...eb games knows about it.

Many of us have items on backorder from online and this is the perfect spot for us to discuss this. I say this thread needs to be kept open. Besides, where else can we defend Metal Arms/Ratchet, too? ;)

GTA Advance is ok, worth $10 at least, espically if you like the old school 2D GTA games.

go take your negativity elsewhere, you mean to tell me that you called an eb earlier just to ask whether people were bringing in certain games:roll: ....when i went to best buy for the second time today it seemed like they finally started tagging games and even had slightly more out, i'd say give it till the end of the week and then shut it down

and what is that last part supposed to mean "ebgames knows about it" whoopdi dam do, wont mean they are gonna stop taking every game on the list this week

there are some deals still to be found whether its employees who were holding games then finally decided they dont want them or people returning some games brought online but couldnt get it for the $4.99 price and was charged $9.99

I went to three Best Buys on Monday morning and guess what... of the 20+ titles I was looking for, I scored a grand total of ZERO. ¬_¬; Needless to say, I've done much better in the past with the Circuit City, Toys 'R Us and Target clearances.

I ordered MOH rising sun, Blood R 2 and LOTR: THird age yesterday order for MOH is processed while the other 2 is still in process!

Stopped by one of my local BB's (76th St. - Milwaukee) today.

A few games had price reductions, but most of them weren't marked. Priced checked their Eye Toy....but it still listed at $30. :(

Was able to get FF: Dawn of Souls for $9.99 though. :D (To think, I was tempted to buy it for $20....)

You know, Toys R Us is having a clearance right now. 50% off sale items. I bought Devil May Cry 2 for $10 and Metriod Zero Mission for $15.

The best buy in puente hills/industry CA has about 4 copies each of these..
GC fairly oddparents 10
GC Activision games? 5
GC Spyro hero 10
GC TMNT 2 10
And the Mankato, MN store had next to nothing (though I only checked GBA and Cube).

I wanted Dawn of Souls...
Mankato's always going to be a bust. It's surrounded by small towns that have no decent places to shop so they all end up at Mankato's BB stealing your stuff.

yay my growlanser actually shipped, i really wish i would have ordered FF: Dawn of Souls too, I need some good gba rpgs. Overall 6 of the 8 games I ordered shipped and I just got backordered on yager and tron 2.0, which i dont care about too much and might just cancel.

I might go check my BB tommorow just for the hell of it, but i doubt my precious PM2 would be there.
You think it's funny that fellow CAGers may get screwed? :shame: I think it's just bad business on BB's part. We were just following what your company's policy is. I think this will just prove to CAGers to stay clear of BB for decent deals, especially the online ones.

In the meantime I didn't really get screwed since they haven't filled out 6 of my 7 orders and I used a gift card for part of the order. If I only have to pay for one game and they won't give me a discount, it's not a big deal. I do have to say if BB.com ran out of stock and still took orders all day, they're a really sh!tty site.
I think it's funny because you are trying to take advantage of their price matching policy rather than waiting for the game to go on sale. To each their own I guess.

Waiting for the game to go on sale would mean that there's a really good chance of letting it get sold out. And the price matching thing is there (but not advertised) for taking advantage of... so I don't see anything wrong with that.

We all saw what happened to the people who waited for the game to go on sale. The cart glitched, orders started going backordered... it was chaos.

It was fun to read though while I chatted on the phone with the bestbuy.com CSR as she filed my price adjustment for my two games that already shipped.

What good is having advance notice if you're not going to, you know, take advantage of it?
