FAQ:

When does the sale being?
The sale begins on MONDAY SEPT 12th when bestbuy opens

Is the sale also online?
no one knows for sure, often bb keeps prices the same, but like i said, this isnt a guarantee. some people are ordering online now and hoping to pricematch later, again, this isnt a guarantee.

Why are people saying they are getting games now, when the sale dosent start until monday?
some people are buying games ahead of time for full price and going back later to get a price adjustment on the games.

BB.com says the games are out of stock in stores around me, is that reliable?
no, its not reliable, it might be right, or it might not, this is from first hand experiance i had today (going to BB then checking avaliability of games i knew where on the shelves when i got home..)

Should i call and ask about the sale?
no, very rarely is calling and asking about a big unadvertised sale a good idea. it can tip off employees that the sale is even going on, also some empolyees might know about it and might have been told to deny it, and some might have no clue at all.

Will the $5 off coupon work on these games? (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58353)
that will be YMMV, the coupon says in black and white, excludes clearance items, so if you get shot down dont cry about it.

paper mario 2 and golden eye for ngc is all i wanted....will i get it at the best buy in fairlakes, va...NO...too many horders in my area and there buddy friends who work there. Guess ebay is going to have a major jump in PM2 and GE:RA starting at 9.99 tonight :(
Wow good luck guys...

I just got back and I went at 9:45......already a line outside.....I went oh crap.... People armed with list and everything! So then just as they opened the door I pushed my way through and watched as they went for carrying baskets...... I was like SUCKERS!!! Scored Y's and Silent Hill 4 for xbox but thats it nothing else was hoping for Eye toy and growlanser....

Think FatWallet screwed alot of people over.... tons of moms with list asking about them....
I mean... there are a few decent games in there, but is this really that big of a deal that requires a line outside the store? I certainly wouldn't think so. But I guess maybe some people would put that much work into making a few bucks off some games. I'm fine with getting whatever I can tonight, only game I really want (Mega Man X: Command Mission) is likely not available anywhere, so not really worth the extra effort.

Yes some games are not ringing up at the sale price, not to mention that my BB didn't have jack shit. They didn't even have a single playstation game.

I also want to say a BIG fuck you to all the fucking hoarders who cleaned out the website in 2 damn seconds.

Saw that a few games were available at my store online, but when I got there at opening there wasn't anything. wtf best buy? get your shit together.

My first post ever and it has to be crappy :whistle2:(

I just got back from the Best Buy in Eau Claire, WI, and they did not have a single game on the list. NOT ONE! Even garbage that they usually have like Excitebike and THUG for the GBA. Even though bestbuy online says the local store has Ys, Growlanser and pretty much everything else.

But it's not a total loss....lesson learned. Next time there is a BB sale, try to hit it online.

i believe the online inventory status of a stores stuff is not updated in real time..so you could see it as being at the store but most likely some horder is buying 10 copies of it and by the time you get there he is walking out the door with his future ebay earnings..

I ordered Growlanser online for in-store pickup. I was planning on going after class today but now I might wait until later in the week to make sure everything is priced correctly. I'm hoping to get it for $5 + tax after coupon.

Well, they had nothing at mine in Wilmington, NC

I went in around 10:10... there was one guy there who said he heard about the deal from another website (not FatWallet) and he was there since open. Not a thing showed up. The weirdest part about it was that there were a bunch of empty spaces on the shelving. Seems they might have sent them to other stores to clear out?

Yeah tell me.... Im just glad I got Y's.... to think it would go into the hands of some dealer who will sell it to ebgames or gamestop and never enjoy the richness of being played...... forshame!

i am really suprised that management doesn't limit 2 per customer or something like that but that doesn't prevent the horders friends from washing, rince and repeating the rounds.

I started to wonder if maybe they just sent all the games back so Bestbuy.com could sell them. One lady working at best buy said she never heard of the sale but that it was probably just an online only thing, and that's pretty much how it sounds right now.

I stopped by because a few games were listed as available in store. Big surprise they were not there, and I was the first person in the store too. There was one .99 Xbox game but some yokels got to it. Not that I wanted it, the game sucked anyway.

I just went in there to get Radiata Stories and they did not even have that.

If it wasn't clearance, they probably would. But they just want to unload the inventory, so whoever does that, more power to them (in the eyes of management, anyway).

Just glad I'm going to the other BB that I never visit to do most of my shopping after returning my games from yesterday to my local BB. They are starting to not like me there. Doesn't help that I see the same guy at the door and the same guy in video games every visit.
Looks like a hoax to me. I called 2 Best Buys in the area, and they never even heard of the sale.
Never, ever, believe what a retail employee says, ever. Half of the time I am unsure if they know the name of the store.

And if it makes you feel any better, most of us who tried to hit it online really went through hell this time. And even now, we won't know for sure if it was worth it until our items ship.

I checked last night at about 3am and my store supposedly had some titles and I was at the door when the store opened. Games weren't there.
i am really suprised that management doesn't limit 2 per customer or something like that but that doesn't prevent the horders friends from washing, rince and repeating the rounds.
Why the hell would management care how many games you take? They want to get rid of these games, hence the clearance, they could care less what you do with it. Plus the limit doesn't make sense here as it is not a "sale" that is only available for a limited time, these are the new prices of these games.

EDIT: Too slow, already said.
I guess its time to go price matching somewhere else....yea right good luck on this one..
Heh, if the Mega Man page didn't have a big fat "OUT OF STOCK" image right above the price, I might try it. The other difficulty being I don't think I've ever seen that game in stock anywhere.

Reading the last few pages this morning has given me a sigh of relief. I opted to not get up early this morning, not waste my morning or some precious gas, and spend cash that I don't have, and to see that this deal is very YMMV and the chances of the visit being a success for me are most likely futile.

My sentiments exactly.

Don't give yourself a heart attack over it. I don't think a Paper Mario's been available in a NoVA area BB for a while now (game came out 2 years ago?). I don't know about the other game, though. There's just too many damn people around here. May be hoarders, may just be too many people. There are a lot of people around here who don't wait for sales/clearances and will just pay $50 for a game.

I was skeptical yesterday when I went to BB for something totally unrelated to this sale and saw nothing there on the list. Glad I was able to get most online this morning, which consisted of six games. But even those are YMMV, as half of what I ordered were Backordered. No I am not hoarding...1 copy of each item just to PLAY!!!

The crazy thing is that the lady in the game section was like "oh well we just marked down a lot of games, so we have some good deals right now".

Well, they didn't have a single game on the list at the store, so unless they were dropping prices from 49.99 to 44.99, I've no idea what she's talking about. She also shot down the list.

Hmm.. Im now worried.. I did instore pickup for Zoo Keeper in my area, though it was instock online.

I then ordered Monopoly online and shaman king (1 was more expenisve then the list though)

Oh well.. I dont mind.. got a a few games i wanted at least.. I pray zoo keeper is really there =[

Just got back from BB (Schaumburg, IL), where I picked up Second Sight for $9.99 (not $4.99 as listed here) and Chaos Theory for $19.99. They had a smattering of titles, so if you're planning on hitting a store, do it quick. I got the last copy of Second Sight, and there were only 2 or 3 Chaos Theory's left. No copies of Silent Hill 4, which I had hoped to pick up. There were also a number of gaming accessories at 50%, actually a better selection of those than of the games.

FYI, Chaos Theory was not on the clearance table, and the BB employee who told me had been waiting for a price drop on it didn't even know it was priced down, so it's worth asking if you don't see what you're looking for.

**edit** I just realized Chaos Theory wasn't on this clearance list. I guess I got lucky. It is available on BB's website for $19.99 for XBX, PS2 & NGC.

I'm calling ahead to the one store that requires a longer drive, to check on two that should be stocked. If they are, I'm there, if not, I'm staying home. Whether they know of the sale is really irrelevant as thats what the website prices are for.

Went to the one in Bloomington, Indiana at 10:01 AM, about a minute after they opened. There were already three people there with lists, baskets, and they pretty much grabbed up anything non-XBox that was of any sort of value before the second minute struck.

The only things not grabbed as I left were pretty much garbage games, a Mr. Driller that someone left pseudo-hidden near the GBA games on the bottom shelf, and some sub-par XBox titles, save for MechAssault 2 (there were around nine or ten copies left but I hate buying games for friends just so they can play it on Live).

Oh well. At least I picked up a color ink cartridge from Staples (and got gouged but...hey, when you need it), found out the latest Retro Gamer rocks (amazing CD this month, quality all around), and picked up a shake from Steak n' Shake. I still wish I could have gotten at least one of the copies of Astro Boy for GBA, though.

I order oline for my cousin for xmas . . .

Castle Wolfenstien
Crash Twinsanity
Mechassult 2 Lone Wolf

He loves my CAG games I get him every year!

So you had a clearance table? I had to fish all over looking for mine.
when did the sale start online?
I got in around 6:30 am, and there were posts on CAG about people online before 3:00 am.

I bet all the employees scooped up all the .99 and 4.99 games before they even got to the shelves, thats why there were none when anyone actually got to best buy.
