Best Buy YMMV Thread

mikeshinobi

CAGiversary!
Can we have a thread where we share deals we find at our local Best Buys? Of course they're always YMMV but it would give us ideas of what to look out for.

I have two local best buys and each of them had different deals:

Best Buy #1:

  • Dragon Quest Builders 2 (NSW): $15.99
Best Buy #2:

  • Disgaea 4 (NSW): $15.99
  • Dead Cells (NSW): $10.99
  • Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology (3DS): $12.99 (didn't get this, very sad)
  • Some other 3DS title I was extremely sad I missed out on (3DS): $10.99
There were some others but these were the ones that stood out the most that I can remember.

Also for anyone who doesn't know, if your Best Buy has a price placard out for a game but they're sold out, you can ask an employee to order it for you from their website and they will match their in-store price! Of course they have to have stock on the website though.

Could have been some "sick" call outs for st Paddy's day combined with someone taking a lunch. Definitely not normal. There's usually 1 at the door, two at the registers, one at order pickup, a runner for curbside and several throughout the store as well as a manager and/or assistant manager.
Meanwhile at aldis you have 1 person plus the management to do all of that.

Not any Target around here that I've seen. Best Buy however is a different story. Them purposely running a skeleton crew is quite prevalent.

target‘s in PA cut hours, I know their management fairly well. Running only 1 cashier per shift and funneling 30 customers to go towards the self checkout lanes.

They did that by design. Trying to have less people in store, where stores are warehouses and showrooms now.

I feel that was a smart pivot for the company. They have been very reliable and my preferred place to order stuff online. Everything I order tends to show up on time or early and in the condition I expect. I was worried there for a while that BB would go the way of Circuit City.

Let me tell you about the Circuit City $5 blow-out… it was glorious.
K-Mart was hit or miss... but when it hit, it was pretty cool. I have a lot of good memories shopping there. But the bargain bins at Circuit City when they were getting rid of games... that was just heaven. Especially during the end of the Dreamcast.
Sounds like some good times that I missed 😭. Outta curiosity did toys of us had some crazy clearance deals.

Toys R Us was always overpriced. Only reason to go there was if you wanted a day 1 release. I remember taking my son and daugter to get Pokemon Black and White for the nintendo DS on release day (March 2011). They were soooooo excited. They still tlak about that day

They are now 24 and 21 (for people not strong on math they were 10 and 7)

I found some good stuff on clearance there over the years but never on the level of CC.

On occasion, yes. Like Dreamcast VMU's for $5. Or certain games cheap. The ereader stuff went cheap. Also there were deals on toys. We didn't have a TRU in my city, but there were two a couple counties over and I'd always check them. Often, nothing, but when they had stuff... it could be quite great. I still have some sealed Dreacmast Controllers and VMU's from those days. I remember getting some good deals on Saturn games as well as GBA and DS stuff. You usually had to wait till something was older and they were just past ready to liquidate it.

Target, at times, could also be good... though it was a crap shoot from store to store.

TRU actually did have some good clearance deals sometimes. One that always sticks out to me was when they had DQ7 & DQ8 for 3DS on clearance and then also a BOGO 40% off promo at the time that stacked with that. Was a damn good deal when you look at what subsequently happened to the price of both on the secondary market.

edit: out of curiosity I went hunting for the receipt and found it. In Nov/Dec 2017 they had DQ7 for $11.98 and DQ8 for $13.99 before the BOGO 40% off

I have so many memories of toys r us. I remember buying PS one games there. One of my last memories and regrets is seeing the Ps vita TV clearances. I never cared to play my handheld games on a tv so I didn’t bother buying it for its clearance price. Of course today the value is immense.

I still do have plenty of circuit city and toys r us video game collectibles though!

TRU definitely had clearance.

Best deals for me were buying clearance games at TRU for 5 to 10 bucks and flipping them to Blockbuster for 30-40 bucks credit.

Had a massive PS2 and 360 library from doing this. Multiple games, rock band sets, etc. Crazy.

I never found any good deals at toys r us or circuit city. Even when circuit city was going out of business thry didn't drop games to less than 60% off.

Kmart was my store and I miss it dearly.

Mine wasn't as amazing though I got a few cheap PS2 games. Kmart was my jam too and I got lots of cheap PS2 games there like We Heart Katamari, and some S-E RPGs like Brave Fencer and that one where you can kick people to fight them.
