CAG League Sports: Madden 12 "JV League" - We Finished 3 Seasons! Thanks Everybody!!!
Chiefs should be playing Matt Young tonight. How about those NFL playoffs, huh? The Pack choking hard.
That was unnecessary, you heartless bastard. :p

Yes, we're set to play in 15 minutes.
who is the sub for the dolphins
Damn, I forgot that Blade didn't want to play as the Dolphins anymore. damailman was asking about picking up a second team. He could easily take Miami since it wouldn't conflict with him having Seattle. Try contacting him and see if he'll at least sub for that game. And hopefully he'll be willing to take on Miami for the rest of the season.

Close game in Kansas City, but the Steelers came out on top after KC narrowly missed a FG attempt with something like 12 seconds remaining.

Pittsburgh Steelers 17, Kansas City Chiefs 14

Sorry, but no time for a write up.
Anyone available to sub as the Cardinals right now against me (Rams)?
Yeah, I can do it. I'll have to hand you commish duties while I switch teams though. So, just promote me back after we're done with the game. Hopping on now.
OK hopping on now. How do I do the whole commish thing?
When he's ready, you go into "commissioner options" and hit "promote player" and you choose his gamertag. No Problemo.
I think you choose 'Disband Franchise'. Then you hide and hope n8 never finds you.
 I like you, sir. I'm glad you made the leap to the varsity league with me, so that we can commiserate in our respective shellackings.

In all my years playing in CAG Madden leagues, I think I made the playoffs one time after winning the worst division in the league with Minnesota. I was promptly thrashed and eliminated. This was back when it was just a league full of CAGs, not people who signed up on CAG just to play in the Madden league.

Rams 27
Cardinals 24

St. Louis wins a nail-biter in overtime against the n8-controlled Cardinals. Steven Jackson broke off several big runs to help St. Louis keep up with n8's surgical offense. Really, had no idea what to call against you. Ended up just going with Madden's choices LOL.

Anyway, after driving down the field for a last-second field goal in the fourth to send the game to overtime, the Rams defense forced the Cardinals to punt. Then, Jackson broke a 59-yard run to get St. Louis into field goal range for the winning score.

The only turnover was a fumbled punt return by St. Louis. I swear I hit the Y button, but it must not have registered. That led to an Arizona TD one play later.

n8 says I was lucky, and he's probably right. As the Saints, he's my one loss this season, and if it weren't for some critical plays down the stretch, he probably would have handed me my second tonight.

Anyway, good game n8. Exciting, for sure.

Player Stats
RAMS
Steven Jackson: 11 carries, 173 yards, 2 rushing TD; 6 catches, 110 yards, 1 receiving TD
St. Louis defense: 5 sacks

CARDINALS
Kevin Kolb: 14-of-24 for 234 yards and 1 TD, no INTs
Beanie Wells: 22 carries for 120 yards, 1 TD
Larry Fitzgerald: 3 catches, 86 yards, 1 TD

Rams - 27
Cardinals - 24

Apparently, this was just a game lyric was supposed to win. I had him down 24-21 with like :15 left in the game. On 3rd and 11 from my 40 yard line, he throws a pass over the middle which gets almost intercepted (probably should have been), deflects into the air, and is grabbed by another receiver at the 30 yard line. Naturally, he uses his last timeout with :03 left, and kicks the field goal to send the game to OT.

In OT, I win the toss, and am marching down field, converting some big 3rd downs as I had most of the game (I think I finished like over 60%). On a 3rd and 2 at midfield, I decide I'm just going to pound the ball with my FB to try to get the first down. It works better than expected, and my FB rumbles forward for like 9 extra yards. Oh, but what's that? Holding? Oh, awesome. fuck you, Madden, lol. Glad I didn't have a vested interest in this game, but as I told lyric, he was lucky as shit with that ending. Other than that, it was a really well played game (save for Jackson's first TD run where I had him wrapped up by like 3 guys in the backfield that he knocked over like bowling pins and then ran like 60 yards).

He was also tempted to go for a 4th and 1 on his own 29 in a 14-13 game with 5:00 left in the 3rd quarter. He paused the game to ask me if it was ok. I just said "Do you think a real coach would do it?" He ended up punting, but said "With the way my defense is playing, I probably should go for it"...but I had trouble seeing that considering all the sacks, and it's not like my offense was lighting him up. Glad he punted because I don't think even the Packers or Saints would go for it there. Ironically enough, on the ensuing drive, I had a 4th and 1 at HIS 29...and I was really tempted to go for it, but partially felt hypocritical, even though I would hope anybody could see the difference in those situations. I kicked the field goal. Kinda wishing I hadn't now.

And one more thing I'm just going to throw out there to stir the pot, only because his record is so good and I'm the only person who's managed to beat him so far. lyric's playstyle is a bit one dimensional. It's Steven Jackson or nothing for him. I realize part of that is because Jackson is one of the few really good players he has, but it does get a bit old alternating between running plays and HB screens. If you want a shot at beating him, focus on Jackson and force him to do something else. Sorry, lyric. I'm not trying to throw you under the bus. I'd just like to see you do a little more with your offense.

One thing I am thankful for that he brought to my attention was before we tried to play, he purchased scouting. Are people actually doing that in this league? I had never run into it until this game, and I kinda just assumed it was a non-issue. But considering it tells your opponent what plays you usually run in specific situations, I don't think it's really fair to use it unless both sides do it. He was cool about it when I asked him and we just restarted the game without it, but it did make me wonder if that's something people are commonly doing that I just wasn't aware of. I'm a little curious what the other league's policy is on it as I've never heard of people using it over there either.

Jeez, man. I have admitted to everyone that it is Steven Jackson or nothing. Have you seen my roster? I'd love to do more, too. But who the hell is Billy Bajema? And why does the ball bounce off his hands every time I throw it to him? I picked up Terrell Owens from free agency for Pete's sake.

Maybe I should have taken the Saints so I'd have weapons all over the field ...
I've seen at least one other person purchase it. I haven't tried it.
Well, I can tell you exactly what it does (I've used it in ranked when people buy it against me). Before you pick your play, it'll tell you what your opponent usually runs in that situation.

ie. 1st and 10 at their own 20

"They usually like to pass it deep and to the right here."

or

"They usually like to toss it to the left side here."

And it does that for every single play on offense and defense. If one person is doing that and the other isn't, that seems pretty unfair. My personal opinion is that it shouldn't be necessary in a league like this. If you want to "scout" your opponent, go look at the stats website and see where most of their yards come from or who their big playmakers on defense are. It seems kinda cheap to get a Belicheat-like view into their playbook, lol.

I hear you, and like I said, I'm not trying to throw you under the bus. I just think you're not trusting your other guys enough. But if people aren't stopping Jackson (which I didn't do like I did in our first game) why should you? Yeah, you have TO...and I think you threw to him once. Even 70-something wide receivers can make plays. Go look at the guys other than Fitz that I threw to in that game.

I'm just saying, you're not going to get better if nobody ever forces you to go to someone other than Jackson. I'm not telling you to stop using him. He's your best player, and you should use him until it stops working. I did a shitty job stopping him in that game (though still...that one broken tackle was retarded, lol). I'm just hoping others can do better than I did. You're 10-1 now. Don't back down from the challenge that people might try to force you to expand your offense.

I'm not going to blame him for abusing Jackson..up to me to stop him. If that is where his (and his team's) skill is, it is up to the D to take him out of it.

I am definitely against scouting. I don't pay attention really during the team selection screen, so I don't know if someone purchased it or not. Does it make it really obvious? WTF EA, why is this shit even in the game. :(

I agree. I should have done a better job stopping him (and I did when I played him with the Saints). I haven't looked at his schedule, but to be 10-1, it was just odd that nobody else had figured it out yet. I'm not blaming him for using Jackson. If anything, I guess you could argue I'm "exposing him". If he wants to reveal my playstyle in return, that's fine by me. I try not to go to the well too many times out of the fear of becoming predictable.

Yeah, his team is a one trick pony, and it's a pretty damn good trick. Just trying to help out teams that face him in the future...which in turn should help him. If anything, he's fortunate that I'm not good enough to snuff those plays out every damn time. Against better players, that's not going to work. It's not unfair by any means. It might be a bit cheesy...but I wasn't good enough to stop it this time either. It is what it is.

Up at the top, near their gamertag, it'll say "Press RB to purchase scouting for 1 coin". When they do it, it changes to say "scouting purchased".
Wow, for 1 coin? So they are just giving away opponent's tendencies then. Ridiculous.
Yeah, I'm like 99% sure when the game first came out, it was 2,000 coins (ha...and according to this forum, you could glitch it...of course you could http://www.madden-school.com/forum/madden-general-talk/13813-easiest-coins-ever.html). But I'm guessing some EA forum whining got them to change it since it was "too expensive".

My favorite thing to do now is whenever I see someone purchase it before a ranked game, I just back out. I don't know if it gives them the coin back, but hoping that they waste even 1 coin makes me feel better, lol. But yeah, it sucks for the times when you're not paying attention...or if you ready up first, then they hurry up and purchase scouting and then ready up. With the way they program their games, if I didn't know better, I'd think EA was TRYING to give people ways to act like complete asshats.

Like I mentioned in the other league thread, I bought scouting once in a league game I think. Someone either used it on me or tried so I thought I'd check it out. It didnt really help and I still got my ass kicked. Personally, I couldn't care less if my opponent uses it.
The Rams beat me with minimal Jackson if I remember right, it was a close game though.
You shut down his running game, but I wouldn't call this "minimal Jackson", lol.

Steven Jackson - 21 att, 57 yds, 11 receptions, 155 yds, 1 TD

The rest of his players touched the ball 9 times. That makes for 32 out of 41 offensive plays that went to Steven Jackson. Again, I'm not trying to shit on lyric here. I'd just like to see people push him out of his comfort zone. For a 10-1 team, I think it would do him some good. Also, I should say, I'm sure he's not the only person in the league who does this. I haven't played Blade yet (I get him next week), but judging by the numbers he's put up with Best, I would assume he relies on him mighty heavily as well. We'll see if I can do any better stopping him.

Here's an update on games I'm involved in, commish:
Titans vs. Bucs - today at 5 EST
Vikings vs. Falcons? - I'm not positive that's Yanksfan's team, but we scheduled it for tonight... Yanksfan, 10 PM EST work for you?
Chargers vs. Broncos - I sent the owner a PM, but I haven't heard back. A sub may be necessary.

All right, just so we're clear from here on out, purchasing scouting is not allowed. After discussion in here, conferring with the other league, and even finding some posts on forums for other leagues, the general consensus is that it's unnecessary and somewhat cheap. Regardless of how well it is utilized, it provides an unfair advantage that is magnified when it's not purchased by both sides. If you want to "scout" your opponent, do your homework and check on them on the myleaguemanager.net site.

Best has been slowed down his last few games.

STEELERS 17-Chiefs 14

Hard fought battle on both sides. Chiefs kicker hits the crossbar on a 53 yarder with :17 left in the fourth.

Pretty sure scouting is useless. When the game first came out I used it in ranked matches and it said they would run the same play everytime for the most part.

I'd hope that now that people have played much more, the scouting would be better, makes sense to ban it either way though I think. For all those poor familys with no coins.

Yeah, but finding somebody in online ranked who runs the same play the entire game isn't unusual, lol. It works. It tells people your tendencies. It's also not necessary. Simple as that.

You all are playing right into my scheme. After 11 games with Jackson as my workhorse, I'm about to unleash my secret weapon.

His name ...

Michael Hoomanawanui

Say that five times fast.

All kidding aside. I agree it would be better — and more fun for all — if I could find a way to mix it up some. I will work on it.
Kaster - Yea, 10 EST should work fine.
Okay, I'm on now. I'm on my phone so I can't PM you, but I figure you'll see this.

Well, I am disappointed with Locker. I hate to do this but I will be sitting him this week and starting Hassleback.

Although I do still believe Locker is the future, I must focus on the present.

Falcons - 28
Vikings - 24

Atlanta escaped with a win that can only be considered lucky. Kaster played me great, contained my offense pretty well and once he got used to Peterson, ran the ball very well. If not for McNabb and an offense he wasn't familiar with, I don't think I would have won. It still look a long TD strike with less than a minute to go to put me up, after an exciting back and forth second half.

Kaster, down by a TD, decided to kick a FG with like 3:30 left in the game to bring it within 4. He banked on being able to shut me down and on a 3rd and 11, he tackled White inches short of a first down in ATL territory. Upon getting the ball, he converted on a big 3rd down early in the drive, then showed no mercy and marched with little effort on me. On the last nice play, I pulled a defender back, so I could get the ball back trailing by 3..otherwise, I think he could have run the clock out.

The first half was marked by some pretty good pass rushing by both teams. I wouldn't be surprised if we registered double digit sacks combined. One almost exciting (for me!) play was Kaster trying a 59 yard FG at the end of the half. I almost returned the miss for a TD, with just one man to beat.

Great game Kaster, I hope we can play again soon. :D

Yeah, I forgot to switch my playbooks before the game, haha. I was amazed at the amount of pressure and sacks you got, I felt lucky to be in a position to win. In retrospect, I wish I had ran out of bounds on that touchdown to Peterson at the end instead of scoring. Oh well, it was a lot of fun :) next time you'll have to play Denver so it's a fair fight ;)

Bengals 38
Browns 14

It just wasn't the Browns' (Ultimate Matt) day. Seemed like his receivers just refused to catch the ball — despite being wide open more than half the time. Colt McCoy was 5-of-24 for 175 yards and a TD. Peyton Hillis carried 16 times for 99 yards and a score.

On the other side of the ball, I used the Rams playbook and tried pretty much all new plays. I favored passing, and Bruce Gradkowski was 13-of-20 for 297 yards and two TDs. Felix Jones carried 15 times for 69 yards and 1 TD; Bart Scott carried 5 times for 110 yards and 2 TDs.

The turning point in this game came at the end of the first half. The Bengals had the ball on their own 8 yard line and were content with going into the locker room up 10-7. Then, the Browns called a couple of time outs to try to get the ball back, but that's when Bart Scott broke a run through the middle for 92 yards and a TD. That changed the entire complexion of this game, and a 17-7 lead was too much to overcome — especially with McCoy getting no help from his receivers.

GG Ultimate Matt. You've got some really nice plays in there — especially some of the ones you ran with Hillis. Once he's in the open, it's impossible to stop him before he gains at least 6 yards.

But like me with the Rams, you desperately need receivers.
i need a sub for the dolphins tonight around 6 central pm me if u can help thanks
Looks like you still haven't gotten anyone to sub. I could probably do it in the next hour or so if you're still available. The only reason I didn't offer before is because Buffalo is my secondary team...so subbing as Miami is a bit of a conflict of interests. But I guess it doesn't really matter for a secondary team...and it really doesn't matter if no one else will offer to play you, haha.

Nice job getting those games played, guys! By my count, these are the games we have left.

Packers vs Lions (supposed to be sometime tonight...not showing up as played yet)
Dolphins vs Cowboys (DVO has been asking for someone to sub for the Dolphins for a couple days now)
Panthers vs Colts (???)
Redskins vs Seahawks (damailman has asked someone to sub for the Skins)
Broncos vs Chargers (Kaster has stated having trouble getting in touch with silversnake5. Try messaging him on XBL, Kaster. Otherwise, we need a sub here)
Patriots vs Eagles (tomorrow at 7 PM CST)

We really need to get these open teams figured out. We either need more than the same 2-3 guys stepping up to sub, or we need to play another round of "Who Doesn't Have A Secondary Team?". Some of you guys who dropped your secondary teams are hurting your leaguemates a bit. It's one thing to not be able to commit to every game, but at the least we need people to pitch in to sub. Your primary team isn't going to go very far if the league dies off because people don't have opponents for half their games. Just something to think about.
