Rams - 27
Cardinals - 24
Apparently, this was just a game lyric was supposed to win. I had him down 24-21 with like :15 left in the game. On 3rd and 11 from my 40 yard line, he throws a pass over the middle which gets almost intercepted (probably should have been), deflects into the air, and is grabbed by another receiver at the 30 yard line. Naturally, he uses his last timeout with :03 left, and kicks the field goal to send the game to OT.
In OT, I win the toss, and am marching down field, converting some big 3rd downs as I had most of the game (I think I finished like over 60%). On a 3rd and 2 at midfield, I decide I'm just going to pound the ball with my FB to try to get the first down. It works better than expected, and my FB rumbles forward for like 9 extra yards. Oh, but what's that? Holding? Oh, awesome.

you, Madden, lol. Glad I didn't have a vested interest in this game, but as I told lyric, he was lucky as shit with that ending. Other than that, it was a really well played game (save for Jackson's first TD run where I had him wrapped up by like 3 guys in the backfield that he knocked over like bowling pins and then ran like 60 yards).
He was also tempted to go for a 4th and 1 on his own 29 in a 14-13 game with 5:00 left in the 3rd quarter. He paused the game to ask me if it was ok. I just said "Do you think a real coach would do it?" He ended up punting, but said "With the way my defense is playing, I probably should go for it"...but I had trouble seeing that considering all the sacks, and it's not like my offense was lighting him up. Glad he punted because I don't think even the Packers or Saints would go for it there. Ironically enough, on the ensuing drive, I had a 4th and 1 at HIS 29...and I was really tempted to go for it, but partially felt hypocritical, even though I would hope anybody could see the difference in those situations. I kicked the field goal. Kinda wishing I hadn't now.
And one more thing I'm just going to throw out there to stir the pot, only because his record is so good and I'm the only person who's managed to beat him so far. lyric's playstyle is a bit one dimensional. It's Steven Jackson or nothing for him. I realize part of that is because Jackson is one of the few really good players he has, but it does get a bit old alternating between running plays and HB screens. If you want a shot at beating him, focus on Jackson and force him to do something else. Sorry, lyric. I'm not trying to throw you under the bus. I'd just like to see you do a little more with your offense.
One thing I am thankful for that he brought to my attention was before we tried to play, he purchased scouting. Are people actually doing that in this league? I had never run into it until this game, and I kinda just assumed it was a non-issue. But considering it tells your opponent what plays you usually run in specific situations, I don't think it's really fair to use it unless both sides do it. He was cool about it when I asked him and we just restarted the game without it, but it did make me wonder if that's something people are commonly doing that I just wasn't aware of. I'm a little curious what the other league's policy is on it as I've never heard of people using it over there either.
