Captain Lou Albano (1933-2009) memorial wrestling topic

It's from Jericho's Twitter account - Santino was dressed as Charlie Brown because he heard Snoopy Dogg was hosting Raw.
Yeah. It's Desmond. My initial info was wrong. And yes I agree. Desmond is a much more awesome sounding name.

I hate Batista. But even I have to admit he is a better wrestler than the Warrior. The key difference between them is the fact that at least one tries to go out there and have a good match. Warrior just goes through his routine. In fact Warrior's never had a good a match as the one Taker/Batista put on at Wrestlemania. And his current run has been relatively unpainful. According to Smackdown spoilers, CM Punk still seems to be the focal point of the brand.
This makes me think you never saw some Warrior matches. 1996-1998 was bad, but we had Warrior/Savage, Warrior/Hogan, and some Warrior/Rude matches that were quite excellent.

Just read the SmackDown spoilers and this is true.
Chris Jericho cuts a promo about Bragging Rights, which brings out the rest of Team Smackdown. And Vickie Guerrero. Jericho and Kane run down the team for not being ready. Shad is ill so they announce a 4 on 5 match, with the whole losing team being replaced.

- Matt Hardy, Finlay, R-Truth & Hart Dynasty beat Drew McIntyre, Dolph Ziggler, JTG & Eric Escobar.

I agree that it's pretty stupid to pull this move only days before the event.

In fairness, the match looks infinitely better now.

Sadly, it validated all the knocks on McIntyre/Escobar on Monday on TV and also makes RAW look stronger. So when (if?) RAW wins, SD! gets to look even weaker.

Yeah, I'm gonna go with "when" there.

FFS, Kane is a captain. They've put "decade long top-card jobber" in a leadership role.

Against DX.

The result of Sunday's match is as plain as the nose on your face. Squash and job, Raw wins.

i'd assume Morgan will get a clean pinfall victory vs. angle in the next month or 2... angle's contract is up at the end of the year.

WWE seems to never do things logically so I'm not surprised by them doing this. Remember, Vince is dumb enough to keep trying to have Raw as the top show even though Smackdown is way better wrestling wise.

Batista's far better than Warrior was in the ring, and he's a pretty fascinating dude. That comes across well on the documentary, and they included many of his best matches (and an OVW one).

WON info on Nigel and Danielson -
McGuinness was signed by TNA after WWE decided against signing him after they gave him an extensive battery of tests and felt his body had too many injuries and decided against offering him a contract. Bryan Danielson has been offered a contract and is expected to debut imminently with WWE on television.

Awesome info about J.R. -
Ross was named lead announcer by Turner Broadcasting, but was removed from the air in 1992 as part of the fallout of Watts being replaced as Executive Vice President of the company. He was assigned to work out the remainder of his contract selling television ads, but believed that since his contract was to be an announcer, that the assignment wasn’t legal. He used that loophole to make a deal with McMahon, springing it on the world during a live broadcast of his WCW sponsored radio talk show on WSB in Atlanta, where he introduced McMahon as a surprise guest and made the announcement he was going to WWF.

Info on BJ Race's service -
Among the major names who came were Larry Hennig, Race’s tag team partner in the 60s when they were among the top heel teams in the world as AWA tag champs, and Ted DiBiase, who knew Race from childhood. As many know, when Mike DiBiase suffered a heart attack in the ring in Lubbock, TX, Race was on the show and was the hero of the night in trying to revive Mike, although in that case he couldn’t save his life.

More on the Hulkamania tour.. -
The ticket sales for both TNA and the Hogan tour in Australia are not that great. Third row tickets are available in Melbourne, and Melbourne is traditionally the best drawing city for wrestling in the country. The show hasn’t been well promoted.

Flair talked about how Vince McMahon gave him his blessing to work the tour. That’s a funny story as the day Flair was in Los Angeles to sign his contract, as noted here, he, against the wishes of Hogan and Bischoff, called Vince McMahon. They knew the story of what happened with Mick Foley and TNA the first time, when Foley called Vince to go to TNA, and Vince offered him double the money to work far less dates on a three-year contract plus give him freedom to work on outside ventures. Anyway, Vince only told Flair good luck and make sure to get your money up front. Anyway, a few weeks later, let’s just say that WWE is not happy Flair is doing the tour. They’ve also made complaints about them using names too similar to their trademarked names, so the former Kishi is now Solofa Fatu Jr., Aumaga is now listed at Edward Fatu, Val Venise (spelling they were using) is now Sean Morley and U-Gene is now Nick Dinsmore.

They've also got legal notices all over the roster page about how the tour isn't sponsored or affiliated in any way with WWE. Sometimes WWE's lawyering up is awesome - this is one of those times.

Hello Redbox -
Nick Bollea will make his acting debut in a movie called “Kill Katie Malone,” a DVD horror movie about college students who pool their money to buy a ghost.

Awesome -
Mick Foley came out with a paper mask, and a bag of popcorn (the same thing he used as a foreign object on a WWF show in San Jose when he and Owen Hart were attempting to have the worst match in history on purpose, not realizing that as hard as they tried, at their worst they could never be in the same league as a Kane vs. Khali match).

One of the hands-down worst fucking wrestling matches I'd ever seen live was Leviathan vs. Sean O'Haire in front of 50 people. It was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. I shouted "this is the best you can do?" which infuriated O'Haire, who decided he would continue his pisspoor work, stopping only to yell "is that good enough for you?" after every move.

Oh god, I should have done that at the piss-poor indie show I went to last year. Too bad the entire crowd was made up of slack-jawed marks that would have probably thrown me in a wood chipper Pepé style.

Also, major stupidity with the
Smackdown team
situation.
Next week's Impact is even better for Desmond Wolf fans.
Too bad the rest of the show is a complete clusterfuck. I'll tune in for the majority of this week's show but I'm not tuning in until the Wolf segment next week.

"The legions of black-T-shirt-, black-jeans-clad wrestling fans in this world might take offense to what we're about to say, but here goes: Wrestling is gay. That's not an epithet (like we'd ever . . . ). It just is, literally, gay. When a man in ball-outlining shiny undies wraps his crotch around another man's head, flexes his muscles, and grunts, the activity has more to do with porn than sports. It's hard to believe how straight the audience can be, but there you have it. World Wrestling Entertainment is that giant conglomerate you probably caught on TV at one time or another, but for even better theatrics in a more up-close-and-personal setting, try to scout out one of Ring of Honor's New York dates. Usually playing the intimate Manhattan Center, this indie league hosts a variety of highly toned men basically taking part in stage combat—or auditioning for a Michael Lucas film, we're not sure. If the gay community ever catches wind, wrestling is going to be as popular with the homos as the WNBA. "

Go Village Voice!

South Park was awesome. I caught that Butters and Token were Miz and R-Truth, was anyone else supposed to be a parody of anyone? I haven't been up to date on wrestling for awhile.

Oh and besides Kenny's El Pollo Loco/Mysterio. Which was amazing, especially when they cut to all the Mexican fans in the crowd.

I like how the Village Voice acts like it's revealing some huge secret. "Here it goes: wrestling is gay."

Great job, ya trendy fucks. It only took 54 years to state the obvious.

If someone chronicles the outrage from ROH-friendly forums though and posts it here, I'll be in your debt.

dammnn, did anyone else just see taylor wildes ass? she was wearin a skimpy ass black thong, very sheek! and man i bet awesome kong has a wicked ass mustache when she doesnt shave

Man TNA blows. So much so that even the wrestlers are getting annoyed.

Kevin Nash blowing up at Terry Taylor at last night's TV taping was the third incident this week of a veteran TNA wrestler blowing up at management.

Samoa Joe lost his cool and chewed out TNA management for what he felt was a blow-off of a commitment to utilize a friend's business for catering at the PPV over the weekend.

A.J. Styles let loose on head booker Vince Russo for what he argued was dismal booking of him early in his run as champion, including making him look weak as champion. Styles won the title because Sting handed him the win at last month's PPV and then essentially lost to Kurt Angle (it was technically a draw, but he was made to appear to be tapping out at the bell) last week on Impact. He also apparently wasn't happy with other aspects of how he was booked this week nor his next PPV title defense or the lack of heels being built up for him

Well, the show started off awesome with the Angle deal, then Rhino came out and yell for an eternity and things just fell off a cliff for the most part. I did like the new entrance graphics that act as mini tales of the tape - it helps the company stand out and informs fans of potentially new talent at the same time. Now if they'd do something like this for the guys' finishers, they might actually be over. Morgan-Steiner was a match. I think Morgan was hurt here by Lashley not only helping, but beating on Steiner for like a minute while the referee was distracted somehow. Definitely a step back after the Angle deal. I'd hate to see him wind up like Lethal - who got nothing out of his win over Angle two years ago because of how poorly things were handled later.

I would've liked a logical reason for the TP main event since Daniels and Joe both lost - of course, Sting was the number one contender whenever he wanted to be, so I guess this is just more of the same thing. It annoyed me that Daniels dressed about a thousand times better than the world heavyweight champion - Daniels dressed like an important guy. Granted, one with black finger nails, but still - important. AJ dressed like any of the fans in the building and not like a top-level guy, let alone the world champ.

TBP thing was over too quick, but was amusing thanks to Taz and Tenay on commentary. Nash and Joe vs. AJ and Daniels was okay-ish, but nothing memorable and it just seemed to serve as a way to progress the Nash-EY feud over the secondary singles title and it made the world title seem like a complete afterthought. The Kong-Saeed deal was good in a way, but I think they should've waited a bit longer to do it since they did a serious injury angle here mere days after a guy could've easily died on their PPV - which they brought up numerous times and just treated it like it was basically nothing.
Then Ray came out and said he was out with a concussion, while they talked about Hernandez losing four teeth in his match and after Shelley revealed that his throat got injured in the UX match. Cripes - BFG was an insanely injury-heavy show and instead of getting anything out of the real injuries, they go with a silly worked one that they move on from quickly after a brief recap.

The Nigel-Angle deal was short, but very good. Desmond Wolf sounds like like a suave name when you hear it - it doesn't read well, but sounds good. Nigel carried himself very well here and didn't come off like an indy guy facing Angle - but as a major player who hasn't been seen before who now has the attention of the best in the world. The UX match was good, but probably not worth the risk for guys who were banged up - particularly the Guns who had to work three times in two days. Then they FINALLY built up the Beer Money vs. British Invasion match as not only a tag title match, and not "just" a six sides of steel match. Oh and it's Beer Money's last shot at the titles too. Thank God TBI's promo was great, and then Beer Money topped it with James Storm just ruling. It's a shame they didn't do a better job building this throughout the night, but when the time came to make it seem important, the talent did their best to make this seem like a huge deal. Kudos to them for that.

The Six Sides of Steel was definitely the best match on the show. It had great psychology thanks to the Roode rib injury and I loved that he did the BEER! MONEY! thing - but showed pain in the process. Reminds me of when Rick Rude had one side injured in a match, and resorted to posing with just one arm. The tower of doom spot off the cage was pretty needless since it didn't even play into the finish - they could've done the same thing without it since the DWI, not the TOWER OF DOOM OFF THE TOP OF A CAGE is what directly led to it. The DQ finish is a mixed bag - on one hand, it continues the referees have more power deal, but on the other, it let to a really stupid finish in what was a really good match WITH an insane bump, so the match basically meant nothing unless they stick with it being the last shot for BM. And the whole "OF COURSE THERE WAS NO TITLE CHANGE ON A DQ" thing bugged me since Abyss's world title win they referenced mere weeks ago was via a DQ.

The wacky deal with AJ being attacked out of nowhere was just stupid. Great, the guy gets handed a world title. Then beats a 50 year old. And now he's beaten up by some dude. And he's facing two losers in a few weeks to defend the world title. Hell of a champion. Anyway, onto the good stuff after the tag match - Angle came out, challenged Wolf, Wolf attacked him from behind then just whooped his ass in the ring and showed that he could take Angle out. Now the question becomes can he do it in a fair fight without being able to jump Angle? There's the hook for their match, and in one night, they did a better job of building up Nigel than they've done with anyone since Joe. Kudos to TNA for this - they really lucked into getting Nigel (well, as much as you can luck into someone not making it into WWE due to injury issues), and they're making the most of it. Like Angle a few years ago, if they've got a limited time to use him, they intend on putting him in the closest thing to a "money" match for him as soon as possible.

Wolf. Desmond Wolf.

Tenay - TONIGHT, THE RETURN OF ULTIMATE X!
Angle - As you can see, I have no family in the ring. It’s been a year to the day since the creation of the Mafia. From the beginning, MEM was misunderstood. You see, the MEM wasn’t about securing spots - well maybe it was for some, but not for me. Ever since I laced up a pair of boots, I knew I’d be the best. The MEM wasn’t about job security - at least not for me, because I knew that Kurt Angle was better than everyone else. But what it was about is respect. Not only respect for the wrestlers, but the game. You’re in it because you loved it - not money or ego, it was about pride and wanting to be the best. When I first came to TNA, what I thought I saw was a bunch of punks looking for everything to be served up on a silver platter - and I tell you, but we all make mistakes. Kurt Angle made a mistake. Because what I see now is a bunch of young boys…that have grown into men! It all started when I saw EY - he had a passion because he wanted to be better than me, and then, I saw AJ Styles. DAMN DOES THAT KID HAVE TALENT! The match that we had last week in this very ring…you can’t tell me that wasn’t’ more than a classic. He gave me more than everything I could handle because AJ wants to be the best. And then there’s Matt Morgan - at BFG, the fire in his eyes reminded me of myself 10 years ago when I first started in pro wrestling. There were a few times where I thought he had me - but I wanna say to the boys and girls in the back, I know you’re listening - you have nothing to prove to me. I now consider you my peers and I’m willing to fight the fight that you’re fighting. Thank you.
Taz - I’m a little… (Rhino comes out) What the heck is this about!?
Rhino - I CAN’T BELIEVE WHAT OYU’RE SAYING! YOU! THE HEAD OF THE MEM! DON’T MISUDERSTAND ME - I’M GLAD YOU’RE HAVING REVELATIONS! BUT CAN’T YOU SEE WHAT’S GOING ON!? DOES IT GOTTA SLAP YOU ACROSS YOUR FACE!? THE MAFIA IS NO MORE! BOOKER T IS GONE! WHAT YA GONNA DO, FIGHT A FIGHT NEXT TO NOBODY!? TNA MANAGEMENT WANTS US GONE! SHUT DA HELL UP! LISTEN KURT! LOOK! LOOK AT THE GUYS TNA MANAGEMENT IS BEHIND - HERNANDEZ, MORGAN, AND AJ STYLES!WHAT ABOUT US!? WHAT ABOUT ME!?
Angle - I understand, and with all due respect - maybe they’ve earned it.
Rhino - THEY HAVEN’T EARNED NOTHING! I STOOD BY THEM AND FOUGHT IN THE FRONT LINE UNTIL I SAW WHAT WAS GOING ON! THEY BROUGHT IN LASHLEY AND PUSHED ME ASIDE LIKE TRASH!
Tenay - TEAM 3D’S COMING DOWN HERE!
Rhino - WAIT A MINUTE, BUBBA! BUBBA WAIT A MINUTE! I KNOW YOU’RE MAD!
Ray - LOOK AT WHAT OYU DID! YOU COST US THE TITLES!
Rhino - I HAD TO DO WHAT I HAD TO DO TO GET YOUR ATTENTION! OBVIOUSLY I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION SO YOU LISTEN UP! BUBBA, SEVERAL DAYS AGO, YOU STOOD UP TO THAT STAGE NEXT TO GUYS BROUGHT IN TO REPLACE YOU!
Ray - YOU’RE PARANOID!
Rhino - WHAT ARE YOU GUYS GONNA DO OUTSIDE OF WRESTLING!? YOU WERE BORN TO BE IN WRESTLING! YOU WERE BORN TO MAKE PEOPLE BLEED AND PUT THEM THROUGH TABLES!
Crowd - LET THEM FIGHT!
Rhino - THERE’S NOT GONNA BE A FIGHT! BUBBA! DEVON! IF YOU DON’T BELIEVE ME, LOOK AT THE CARD - BECAUSE YOU’RE NOT ON IT! MAYBE THEY THINK YOU GUYS DON’T PULL THE RATINGS LIKE YA USED TO! SEEING HOW YER NOT WRESTLING, COME OUT WHEN HERNANDEZ IS WRESTLING ME AND YOU GUYS CAN CHEER HIM ON! YOU CAN COME OUT HERE TO CHEER FOR HIM - TNA WANTS ME OUT OF HERE, BUT THEY’RE NOT GONNA HAVE IT UNLESS THEY DRAG MY LIFELESS BODY OUT OF HERE! BECAUSE THAT IS THE WAY THEY’RE GONNA GET RID OF ME!?
Tenay - AGREE OR DISAGREE TAZ!? RHINO IS PASSIONATE ABOUT HIS BELIEFS!
AJ - If Kurt was sincere, then this is a big step for TNA. This isn’t about us - IT’S ABOUT THE COMPETITION! WE’RE IN THE BEST WRESTLING COMPANY IN THE WORLD!
Lauren - The main event of Turning Point has already been signed - Daniels vs. Joe vs. AJ for the TNA Title.
Daniels - AJ-Joe-Daniels II is gonna exceed expectations, but tonight, we must face Joe and Nash. I know you guys are coming off of some bad losses, but I ALMOST DIED ON SUNDAY, and yet here I am in the ring tonight. If there’s any question who’s on top of their game, we’re gonna answer them in the ring tonight.
Raisha - KONG! YOU ARE MY PUPPET! YOU WRESTLE TONIGHT! I WILL DESTROY YOU!
Taz - Nice orange tie, Mike.

Lauren - Matt.
Steiner - WHO’S MATT!? I’LL BEAT ‘EM BOTH UP! I’LL BEAT HIM SO BAD HE WON’T KNOW WHAT HIS NAME IS!
Taz - HERE COMES MIKE MORGAN!
Tenay - It isn’t often that you can say a loss helps your career - but that’s the case with Matt Morgan!
Tenay - Earlier, Scott acted like he was separating himself from Kurt.
Taz - So what? You saying Steiner doesn’t have his own mind!?
Tenay - STEINER’S IN FRONT OF KRISTAL LASHLEY!
Steiner - WANNA KNOW WHAT IT’S LIKE BEING WITH A REAL MAN!? ALL NIGHT LONG!
Taz - That’s a little disrespectful.
Tenay - Can Steiner throw Morgan around like he did the guys in Full Metal Mayhem?
Taz - Yes, because when you’re facing a seven footer and you’ve got a suplex arsenal, your hips are already lower than his which helps you.
Taz - STEINER’S FINGERS ARE THE SIZE OF SAUSAGES! LOOK AT HIS ABS! Reminds me of when I was training back in the day!
Kong - RAISHA! NO MORE ORDERS! TONIGHT! FINISHED!
Taz - From the city of angels, but Daniels was almost flying with the angels on Sunday.
Tenay - IT JUST SHOWS YOU HOW TOUGH DANIELS IS!
Taz - The ref Earl Hebner rang the bell early at BFG because he felt that Joe was getting choked out. I talked to Joe later and he said “Yeah Taz, I was getting’ choked out!”

(with a raspy voice)Shelley - Excuse me, I got hit in the throat in our last UX match, and it’s easier for viewers to turn up the volume on their TV than for me to turn up the volume on my larynx.

Oh, get over your too-hip-for-hip self. Their blurb points out not that it's a "big reveal," but rather, like you acknowledge, fans of wrestling are the kind of people who would take all kinds of offense to this claim, and for as homoerotic as it is, how straight most fans are.

Like Tom Cruise movies are the same way, y'know?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cfbjUmG8zGk

On a less ranting note, I'm a bit skeptical about the injury angle on Nigel. It sounds pretty plausible, but who's to say that WWE isn't trying to twist the news out there?

The guy's had a lot of injuries and every major reputable wrestling site (all three of them) has said that it's the reason - and even acknowledge that there may be a bit of a double standard since there are plenty of injury-prone guys on WWE's roster who would probably fail the physical, but because they're name guys, they're exceptions to the rule and Nigel isn't one, so they didn't go through with his deal.

The newest Observer Radio has more details on the issue - WWE feared that if he got really hurt on their watch, there would be a paper trail showing that they knew he was in bad shape and hired him. It would open them up to a ton of criticism if that happened. It's like when Noble got fired years ago - a bunch of guys were on steroids at the time, but since there was a paper trail showing that he was on them, they had to fire him.

Figure 4 Daily has even more on it and the main concern that WWE had was his history of concussions. Nigel stated in an interview put in an article with Alex Marvez that he's had issues with being out at night and looking up and seeing bright lights around him. Lance Storm fears for his safety given his current style and hopes that he greatly tones things down. Nigel will be issuing a statement soon.

Nigel was a wreck Myke. I saw him live against KENTA. Guy was falling apart. Torn biceps in both arms. Numerous concussions. He wasn't Kurt Angle bad but he wasn't fresh off the boat either.

He was getting a fairly solid push by being put with Jericho before they let him go, but now Jericho's busy with other things. It'll be interesting to see what they do with him when he comes back to TV.
